Is Willow Smith getting ready to whip curly red hair back and forth? Count on it, if her dad Will Smith gets his way.
The superstar is reportedly looking to redo the popular musical "Annie" with his 10-year-old daughter in the lead, reports Variety.
Willow's previous acting experience includes roles in "I Am Legend," "Kit Kittredge: An American Girl," "Madagascar: Escape 2 Africa" and "True Jackson, VP" - not to mention that she also has a hit record with last year's single "Whip My Hair."
Reps for the project wouldn't confirm whether the new "Annie" would be set in contemporary times and include original songs, although it's rumored that Jay-Z is working on the music (his 1998 tune "Hard Knock Life" included a chorus from the musical).
This isn't the first time Will has produced movies for his kids. He developed last year's "The Karate Kid" remake for his son Jaden.
Ugly spoilt talentless kids the protege' of their incompetent parents...the downside is after creating these monsters they pass over and leave them with us.
Embarrassing Ass not Class send them awwwwwwaaaaaaaayyyy
Hey there, You've performed an incredible job. I'll certainly digg it and individually recommend to my friends. I'm confident they'll be benefited from this website.
Annie is a white red head child not black kid. Not only that i dont think hos kids can even act. The only reason the other movie that his son was in was a big hite was because Jackie was in it not because of Wills son.Yo Smith family get over yourself.
You guys are all saying lets remake Nelson Mandela and Martin Luther King with a white man those are HISTORICAL events that wouldnt make sense take the Fresh Prince or the Cosby show and put White people then fine no one cares Im half black and Half white its definately not about race its about can she live up to the part. Is her acting skills up to ability. Not what color her skin is.
I think it will be good to try something new but im just so used to seeing Annie as being white with red hair. Kinda like it should be but it may turn out okay. We will have to see. Anyways I love Annie! My fave is the 1999 version but I like some scenes alittle better in the 1982 version. But no matter how the movie turns out, the two Annies I know and love will always be what I want to remember. Both were excellent for the part in their own ways and nothing will change that.
To me this is not a black/white thing, It's a memory thing, a memory of the movie Annie the way I remember it. It was one of my fav movies growing up & now as I get older I see more & more movies getting remade, some are good & some not so much. It sucks cuz remaking movies messes with the memory of the "older version" of it so then you're stuck remembering the movie as it is now & not what it was then... I just think some movies should be left alone! Please don't mess up Annie for me! I LOVE Will Smith & always have but I really can't see his daughter as Annie or anyone else as Annie.
talk about color blind casting
kids karate houston
i think this is retard shes a little girl and half of u are like 30 40 50 20 like grow up are u proud to be calling this little girll all these names i mean what if it was ur daughter ok just hink before u speak
Why!?!?!?!? NOOOO! You CANNOT remake Annie!
we are doing the play at my school. It's set in the 30's, so if Annie is black, it will be SO unbeliveable. And if they change the setting i will be dissapointed, but if they do not use the original songs....I will be MAD! Annie is so great! I'm all for remakes, but nooooo, not Annie. I"m not trying to be racist, and willow actually is a very good singer. But if they change the songs It'll suck!
Okay, I have no problem with movies being remade and more diverse. I actually think its a great thing, i.e. the newer version of Cinderella with Whitney Houston and Brandy. BUT Cinderella was not only a fictional character but an animation. Annie, however was played by an actual person and was so popluar and stood out due to her red hair and freckles. Furthermore, its not about anything negative against black or white people, but about someone fitting the description and charactersitics of why Annie was so well known and how that should be greatly considered when picking the lead role. And not solely because your dad is remaking the movie just so his child can star in it. Im sure that if someone was redoing a movie based a well-known black person...it would be viewed by many as unacceptable if someone white starred it just becasue their "daddy" made it possible.
Strong young lady with a strong family backing.......America's worst nightmare. GO WILLOW! I love your music, your swag and your family ties!!! Great parents!
Jamie Lee Curtis
Just to name a few born into the entertainment industry. Personally I think Willow is in pretty good company. She will make a great 'Annie'
This is the most stupidest thing I have ever heard of. I mean come on who ever heard of a black Annie. Ever since the very first comic strip came out Annie has been known for her red hair....RED HAIR people!! Besides that fact what exactly is Will Smith teaching his kids? That you don't have to work for anything in this world because daddy will just hand it over to you on a silver platter. Why not make them try out for the part with other hard working actors & actresses? Not cool Will, not cool at all.
I was not aware that India played the role of Annie on Broadway. Good for her. I've seen some of her work and she is very talented. And like JD said some posts here are just ignorant.
Willow will not be the first black actress to portray this character. India Scandrick portayed Annie on broadway, she is the same actress now portraying Nala in the broadway version of Lion King. This character is fictional and open to interpretation, I will leave judgement until I actully see the movie. I am actually hping for an updated version, justifying a remake becuase the classic is one of my favorites and I hope they do not attemt to do this as a period piece.
willow is soooo adorable i like her i also like her brother(jaden smith)
An Annie make over is perfectly reasonable especially given this is a character from a comic strip. Comments about a white man cast as MLK, Malcolm X or remake with all white cast of The Color Purple or Roots just flag the post as ignorant. If the Smiths want to do this good for them. Remakes are not intended to be the same. I wish the Smiths well in this endeavor and hope it does much better in the theaters than the first Annie film....which didn't turn a profit.
And personally I would love to see Jenifer Lewis in the role of Ms Hannigan. That woman is fantastic!
Furthermore with Jay-Z working the music for this film the soundtrack will be awesome!
yay! more of the same tired out rap music from jayz, wonderful, now we have a PC version of Annie, because the white thing is getting so old that blacks have to RE-MAKE everything, or is it because you have NO creative talents and only PARODY what others pioneered in. fresh prince was the WORSE rapper ever...
This is a remake of a fictional children's story. Nothing new here. Remakes are done all the time. Makes no difference that a Black child will play Annie. Will & Jay-Z have something most of you posting here do not: vision. Classics are the favorite remakes. Do you realize how many versions of A Christmas Carol there are. Scrooge has been rewritten as Black women twice. Cecily Tyson and Vanessa Williams. Both good films. This isn't meant to be the same movie as already exists. So what if the comic strip depicts a white kid with red hair. The character can be revamped into any nationality or ethnic background. And so what if the Smith kids have joined the family business. This is normal in the entertainment world. many of todays stars have celebrity parents and grandparents. Look at the Douglas family. They've done a film with 3 generations represented. Look at Drew Barrymore. She's great but would she be where she is now if she wasn't a Barrymore? This should not be pulled down into the gutter of racism. This film will do fine and more than likely be as much of a classic as the one done years ago. I'm looking forward to a fresh new updated version of Annie.
I am appalled that here we are in 2011 supposedly in the most progressive nation in the world and people continue to think so backwards on race. And stooping to a level of calling a 10 year old child names. You should be ashamed. I am so thankful I taught my children better than that. And they are teaching their children better than that too. We should be interested in the human race, not skin shade.
At the end of the day its just another movie!!!!!
Finally, a voice of sanity and reason, thank you.
She is cute, looks like her father, but i feel sorry for her.. ppl won't let her forget this one, rich kids are treated badly.. doesn't matter what color they are... but some new movies would be nice!
To hell with the black and white issue. You people need to get over that. Im just mad that they are once again remaking a classic. I loved Annie as a child. I didnt watch the first remake and I wont watch this one either.
This is America!!! Land of dreams. Do not rain a ten year old dreams. Willow is blessed to have this outlet. May she be some other cnild inspiration.
I HATE WILLOW SMITH!!!!!!!!!!! SHE CANT BE ANNIE!!!!!!!!! SHE DOESNT HAVE THE TALENT!!!!!!!!!! SHE IS A SPOILED LITTLE BRAT AND HER DADDY GOIVES HER EVERYTHING SHE WANTS!!!!!!! PS HER OUTFITS ARE STUPID,UGLY,AND LAME!!!!!!!!!!!
LOL! Rosie! Rosie! Fire up the oven for cookies!
Let me star by saying this, my mom is white BOND PAPPER, my dad is black really black, and I was borned in CENTRAL AMERICA regardless of anything you guys got some messed uo issues. First off in my opinion i think that willow is a little to small to be acting or so she need more of a kid life I think! but then if I had the money and fame and my kid says daddy I wanna be an actress wouldnt i move heaven and earth to let it be?
Its saddly how america uses any situation to express you racist opression? Whats the point? You are right some roles are fit for some people, brad pitt cant be shaka zulu but then who gives a f*&%# who plays who nowadays? Why no one complained when movies came out using a black president way before obama, saying that president role in movies iss for white people? There is a line really thin between what i want and what i can, many of us want things but cant, others like the Smith family what they want they can have! Its just life. I like them they have made good movies ( didnt like that much W.W.W he should have taken the ROLE OF NEO on MATRIX YES HE WAS OFFERED BUT HE DECLINED!!) Most of you that are on the hater role will end up in movie theather watching it... Its just life.
Couple of comment above said it: If you dont like it just dont watch it, but ITS STILL COMMING
Did Mommy and Daddy pay for this as well?
I get some of the arguments about Willow. However, the "she can't play this part because there are no black redheads" argument is unfounded. In fact, it's very believable for me because I come from a family with 100 percent, out of the womb, black gingers. Freckles and all. I definitely don't wish the child ill. Only time will tell if she's a good actor.
Yes will smith please PLEASE pay your kids ways into movies. At this rate i hope you expect them to ask you for money in their 30's. You've taught them nothing about life except maybe racism, and you were probably sniffing your 100's while you were preaching that lesson. "Daddy grew up in hard times, but look at all this moooney!"
I see no reason to argue about this the girl have a rich daddy and so the daddy invent wich part she likes to play mad simple there is no reason to say such and such of white or black come on thats mad old this is 21st century where we all or should i say some don't care where you come from or so.
I'm sorry but any hollywood parent, black or white, who produces a movie for their kid to star in, is a d-bag. Period. Plain and simple. That's a huge d-bag move.
Willow is a child and it is sad that her parents do not see the need for her to get a good education instead of getting her involved in showbusiness. She should be in school like most 10 year old little girls. Her parents have enough money to support the family, so why is she and her brother out there trying to support themselves. They both should be in school and enjoying their childhood.
Serious people?! I mean Lord have Mercy, she's a little girl and you dumbies are talking junk and hating? Who cares if she's black and she's playing the role of a WHITE character. It doesn't really matter. And why does she have to be a spoiled brat?! Just because her daddy's getting her a spot in a movie? PEOPLE GET A LIFE IF ALL YOU HAVE TO DO IS GET ON HERE AND HATE ON A LITTLE GIRL. IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT WHY COMMENT AND WASTE YOUR TIME?! I'm actually excited now to watch the movie since I know she's going to be in it. :) GOOD LUCK WILLOW! <3
I think what everyone here seems to be forgetting is that Annie is a FICTIONAL character. You cannot compare Willow Smith playing Annie to a white person playing MLK.
However, my problem is that Will Smith can't come up with any original ideas. He has to keep putting his kids in remakes. That's what bothers me.
It is NOT a black/white issue. It's a remake issue. When is someone going to do some original stuff? Just how many times must everything be remade??
Oh come on.....I highly doubt this will be an exact remake with Willow Smith in the red dress and a curly red wig. Most likely it will be in story only. And have you seen his kids in interviews? They have certainly not been pushed into anything.
And guess what? You don't have to see it.
See, this is why people should read more carefully. It says nothing about a hip-hop version of Annie. Why do people assume that because black folk are involved it has to be hip hop? Stop judging and see the facts before you shoot the movie down before it's even been developed.
I am with Will Smith. They're slowly remaking movies that had all white casts with all black casts now. More power to them. I'll see it if it's made.
It is just a remake people, heck we have no information about what that would actually entail. They may choose to benchmark so-to-speak from the original musical/ movie but put it into todays times. The original storyline was set in the 1920's. I think for this movie to do well with Willow as the lead character they would have to alter the timeframe (to the 70's through current time) but that is just my opinion. The original story was based off the comic strip from the 20's and it is solely based on a red-headed irish orphan. To do a remake and not bomb they really would need to change the storyline up a bit. Whatever they do choose to do, I wish them well on their project!!
Doesn't Hollywood have any creativity anymore? All they are coming up with these days is remakes or reboots of stuff.
When will this man have enough money already? I can see them doing this and donated ALL the procedes to charity, but not if he just wants to line his pockets with more money!
My problem isn't so much with the casting (which is indeed odd); it's the fact that Hollywood is remaking classic films at an alarming rate. Has all imagination dried up in Hollywood? C'mon...give us something original and stop ruining great films!
The end of the world can't come soon enough.
I wonder if they will include Whip My Hair in the list of songs for the movie.
Not a Big Deal....as long as its ok to have Dakota Fanning play Cassie when they make a new movie for 'Roll of Thunder, Hear my Cry'....Only ok if it goes both ways... :)
wow, I see racism is STILL alive and kicking in America, although it never had me fool. I always realized it was just on the down-low......Go ahead Willow do your thing!!
So why of all the photos they could have used, why would CNN use the infamous one of her wearing Brea Stinson's illegal "knockoff" of a well-known "Mother of London" signature design? Are they actively *trying* to foul up the ongoing settlement discussions?
Some of these posts are pretty embarrassing to read. It seems that many of you fail to understand that your opinions are below insignificant; virtually non-existent to those that matter in the movie-making process. But please, by all means, continue your failed attempts to cyber-bully, discriminate against, and verbally abuse a young girl and her family. They, nor anyone even remotely important, will ever read anything anyone has said here, fortunately. Sorry for the reality check! ;)
I say go for it, but ditch the red curls. Modernize the story – set it in a time and place where Annie could be African-American. If Beyonce could be Dorothy in The Muppets Wizard of Oz, Willow can be Annie – but not the same Annie as Aileen Quinn. Beyonce didn't try to emulate Judy Garland; she was her own version of Dorothy. And Willow can do the same.
Annie is WHITE. This is not a racial slur, just a fact. Willow is pretty, but not up for Annie. I was 8 when this movie came out, and I will not let this crap go straight to hell.
Annie is my all time favorite....Bottom line.....it's just a movie, let the viewers be the judge! People always find a reason to complain about something, how about finding a solution to something!
Did anybody say any of these mean things when Whitney Houston and Brandy did Cinderella? No..it was made by Disney so maybe that mattered. OK...there are somethings to be left alone: ANY WHITE MAN PLAYING MARTIN LUTHER KING IS THE MAIN ONE!but your point is well taken by this Intellegent Black Woman. If anyone gets upset over any reason let be that there are other Black young actresses and actors wanting to shine also.
Cleopatra wasn't black It's a greek name, not some african ghetto chit like shanaynay.
Just to let you know. She was as black as they come and the name Egypt had not been invented by white people yet kinda like the Middle East is not real. It's all Africa.
Wow...everyone is hung up on color. Not a big deal. My issue is with the nepotism. I didn't like it with Godfather 3 and I don't like it now. That should be the issue here.
All this talk about Annie originally being white is ridiculous. Anytime Hollywood starts production on a film that requires a black female, they always hire Angelina Jolie who is white. Cleopatra and Ron Pearlman's wife for example were women of color. Keep in mind hollywood is not black or white...it's green. Since Angelina guarantees box office profits she gets these roles, regardless of cinematic integrity. Why shouldn't Willow be allowed to play Annie? Come to think of it most orphans aren't even white...
Fail! This kid is so ugly, picture her in a red fro. I just puked! I am so sick of Will pimping out his two spoiled and ugly talentless kids. Enough is enough. Annie is a fair skinned, freckled face red headed girl. Stupid! How would a white man playing Martin Luther King go over? Not! Please keep these punky overprivelaged brats out of Hollywood.
Why does Will Smith constantly feel the urge to remake movies with his kids as the stars... talk about being conceited! Annie? What makes him think that his kid is the best choice for Annie? This is just silly! What's the purpose of all the madness?
I just dont like how it seems that thier dad pays for them tot be in all these roles. if they were really interested in pursuing acting or singing, then Will Smith wouldn't need to pay for all this producing. The kids would find roles that suited them better. For example, annie was a poor little orphan girl growing up in the previous century, Willow pulling THAT off owuld be a miracle, because her acting experience is based off of nepotism, not skill. same with her singing, if you can call it that... id ont, but its a matter of personal preference, not age or racial discrimination...
and her fauxhawk.
First he destroyed the Karate Kid and now he is going after Annie. Maybe next Will should play Derek Vineyard from American History X, that would make sense or how about Neil Armstrong in the first moon landing. How about someone makes a movie about Martin Luther King and have Sean Connery play him or how about Angelina Jolie play Harriot Tubman. Some people are just idiots and don't know when to stop ruining classic movies.
First he destroys the Karate Kid and now he is going after Annie. I guess next Will Smith will want to play Derek Vineyard in American History X or maybe he will play Neil Armstrong in a reenactment of the Apollo landing.
I have no problem with a black girl playing Annie. What I have a problem with is that it seems that Will & Jada Smith are almost trying to pimp their kids in Hollywood. Will was 17 years old when he started in the music industry professionally. Willow is 10. Jaden is 12. To me, that seems too young to be entering into the real, sometimes cruel world of entertainment. They need to be kids and have a normal childhood. As normal as one can get who's parents are superstars. Just my opinion.
OMG!!!! Can all of you negative nay-sayers get in line or even jump the line and "KISS MY AZZ"... She is a child and as we try to tell our children they can be anything they want to be....if she wants to play that role then she can, who are we to judge....we are not GOD, her parents or this child. I love the "Smiths" and will support any project that they do...Will has 3 children and he is supportive of all three...Its not our money, if its a flop, so what!!!! Hopefully, everyone is supportive to their own children and will do all that they can for theirs, stop worrying about "Will and Jada" they got their stuff together...Go out and get yours!!!!!! Say what you want in response to this.....still, have a blessed day...
I see all these comments about anger towards this possible movie but not one comment about the monkey dressed in people clothes with her ears pierced. Isn't that animal cruelty?
As a redhead I am offended.
She's not a good actress or a good singer. She only gets the parts she has because of who her parents are. She wouldn't have done the songs without her parents putting up tons of money. Are your parents rich? If so, they you, too, can become an actor and singer. It's about who you know and who you are related to. Sadly, it seems like it is no longer about having talent. When I see Willow and her older brother, I see two VERY smug children.
I love how everyone is so judgemental before the movie has even come out. People these days just want something to fight about. Why are you all arguing about this? People should think about being more kind to each other.
These comments I'm reading are ridiculous, but I refuse to believe racism still exists in 2011; I think the term is ignorance. For those of you making the comments about making movies with Martin Luther King as a white, you should really reevaluate that statement. MLK is an actual person, Annie is a fictional character. You people (blacks and whites)are acting as if she's an historical figure or something. When a black person play the Role of Elvis or John F. Kennedy, then by all means get mad! Get your pit forks and fire torches and have a riot, but until then there's nothing to worry about. Anyone of any color can be an orphan, not just a curly haired, red headed white girl, I don't understand the uproar. If I'm hearing right, the problem is she doesn't have red hair or curls? My challenge to you all is to get upset about something that really matters because this hostility thats being built up over a fictional character is absurd..I'm disapppointed at the people of America! There's a war going on, and all anyone can worry about is a fictional character. Also the B.E.T comment, yes B.E.T. is a black television station, but I've seen plenty of whites on there, if I recall B.E.T. was airing Justin Bieber first single like crazy. I'm a twenty year old black female, and it kills me to see that people are still just as shallow now as they were several decades ago. The time you spend judging people could be used to do something productive. I grew up watching Annie, know the songs and sung along plenty of times; but I never thought playing her part was limited to a color. If some kids read these comments their dreams would be ruined you're telling them Them that they can't be cinderella, shirley temple, or even hannah montana(whoever they're favorite character is)...because of there color? Ignorance at its best, Icons are always imitated people...The fact that they even would consider remaking Annie should be respected, because I doubt it would be even close to a big money maker so Suck it up people!!!
Wasn't this the pilot episode for "Boston Legal"?
Still in all seriousness – the kid has a good face for the expression Annie has to pull off. And frankly "The Whiz" was pretty popular, too, when it came out.
she looks like a monkey.
Wow I mean no offense but she does look like a monkey
As long as "Daddy" is bald and doesn't have facial hair, I'm in. I don't care who plays what part in the remake!
All you have to do is provide a blank slate and a topic, and ignorant people will come running from miles around.
These poor people. Must be their joke of a religion that makes them nuts about everything. I guess if you believe a fiction writer of science is your GOD, you are apt to do anything. To bad for their kids. Just because they put a nig in the white house, that does not mean black kids should be in a remake of a movie/play involving a white kid. I guess I should be thankful that they are at least working, don't have six kids as an occupation and drain the welfare system.
All you have to do is provide a blank slate and a topic, and ignorant people will mark it all up.
Why do you feel the need to diss a 10 year old? We need to encourage all the youths of today, to follow their dreams. The Smiths are extremely fortuunate to have resojrces on their side. This is America you do not habe to go see the remake of Anne. But do not knock down a ten year old dreams in the process. Kyle go for a long walk off a short bridge. Haters are always trying to put people down.
His kids stand zero chance of ever being normal (in a good way).
I like Will Smith, as an actor but that admiration is wearing very thin these days. It would be one thing if they were talented or they went through the ranks in hollywood and were hired on merit and skill rather than nepotism. If they weren't his kin no one on earth would know of their existence and we would be happy. Anyone else find it a little suspect that big daddy will "produces" the movies his kids "act" in. I am sooo jealous. I wish I could be a cardboard cookie cutout film prop. Guess I'll just have to fall back on my law degree. Silly me for going to college.
People are so judgemental I find it funny ass hell when Annie was remade with the little white girl and Carol Burnett it wasn't critiqued as hard although I agree with the choices of movies to remake I think Will@Jada are the perfect example of supportive parents who are fortunate enough to be in that position to help facilitate what I think will be a long and successful career for the young smiths.
A nig nig playing Annie? So in this movie we will see her dealing drugs, getting a huge fat ass and knocked up with 5 kids when she is 12? I can't wait!
It shouldn't be about race but guess what? It is, like it or not. If he made an original movie with his kid nobody would care. Problem is he's remaking a movie that was about a white girl. Alter that by casting a black girl is asking for it. As MANY people on hear have brought out, the same reaction would be there if race was reversed. That's life, not rasicm. Get over it.
If you want to make a movie adaptation of Little Orphan Annie casting a little girl of color, then go right ahead.
But to cast a little girl of color as THE Little Orphan Annie? It's just... weird. Not hateful or spiteful or anything, but it is odd. People like me who know not just the musical and the movie but ALSO the COMIC are left scratching our heads. I doubt you'd see a modern Little Rascals movie cast with a little white kid as Buckwheat. Fictional characters are who they are, INCLUDING their race. We shouldn't try to rob them of it.
This will be very cute. I loved Annie when I was a child. I had the red dress with the white belt, the record (not CD, this was the 80s) and I listened to it constantly to the horror of my parents and older brothers.
Anyone else tired of Will Smith. I used to like the brotha, but I can't stand the way he's forced his kids into success.
So what if she's black they can die her hair red (look at Rihanna) & she's already light skin so they can add freckles. Yes ignorant white people on here black people do have freckles. And if you get mad at my comment then you're the dumb white ignorant person I'm talking to. Other white actors and actress have paved the way for their children and Will is doing the same thing. Back in the day or dark ages, white people painted their selves an unnatural color of black to play black parts because blacks weren't allowed to act. So get over it, we did. Go Willow!!
Well... okay. So it'd be all right if they did a new "Little Rascals" movie and put a little white kid in blackface to play Buckwheat?
I can't believe all the negative comments on here regarding a little girl playing the part of Anne. That is why it is called "acting". The article did not say anything about it being an original version. Hello, did anyone she "The Wiz". It was an adaptation of the wizard of oz and guess who starred in it? A black lady named Dianna Ross played the role of Dorothy. So, don't get your panties in a bunch over something as trivial as a little black girl "playing" a role. It's not real, people! It's all make believe.
Having Willow play Annie is about as stupid as Tom Cruise playing kunta kinta(however its spelled)in a remake of roots. I bet that would be kicking the hornets nest!
I don't particularly care whether she stars in it or not, or whether she's white or black... but i probably won't see the movie because i'm tired of all these remakes of old movies. How about something original? I would be more interested in something new. Let classics be classics and stop remaking them for today's actors.
YEEEESSSS!!!!! Couldn't agree with you more. It's like a writer saying I just wrote Moby Dick, changing a few words. Pay me.
I've never been called a racist, nor would I ever accept being called one since I never PRE-judge someone based on their race, religion, or place of origin, HOWEVER, I can see how casting a black girl to play a white character can be upsetting because it seems this only goes one way. If perhaps they were to remake a movie based on Fat Albert, or Shaft, or any other black fictional charcater but instead had that role played by any other race, white, asian, etc, the black community would be in an uproar and Al Sharpton would be planning a march. To call someone racist for saying that they think a white fictional character should be played by a white person is actually more racist then anything else.
Didn't Robert Downey, Jr. play a black character in Tropical Thunder? Throughout the years, many white men have played the part of Shakespeare's Othello even through that part was written for a black man.
@Dolores – yes, he did – BUT THAT WAS THE JOKE. The fact that he was playing the role of an actor who was in a role he clearly wasn't fit to play WAS THE JOKE.
Ok, so then you're suggesting that she use make up like Robert did AND look white to play the role? Not to mention what you are referencing is a fictional character that was neither traditionally white OR black. The character was created with the sole purpose of Robert putting on make up to LOOK black, like the Waynes brothers did in White Chicks.
Amazing how so many adults lift themselves up by attacking a young child. If you don't want to go to that movie, then don't go. Shakespeare wrote female parts that were played by men. Dianna Ross played Dorothy in Wiz and Brandy played Cinderella. Both of those roles were originally written for "white" girls. Theater is for actors, and good actors can play a myriad of roles. Don't pre-judge the movie, Ms. Smith's performance, or her suitability for the role. The proof will be in the pudding once the film is made and released. At least she has gumption and parents who teach her to reach high.
AT LEAST WE KNOW SHE'S NOT GOING 2 END UP ON DRUGS N DEAD...LIKE THE MAJORITY OF HOLLYWOOD' CHILD STARS..ASK LINSEY IF SHE NEEDS A HIT...HA! HA!

Are these Smith kids ever going to have a childhood? What's Will and Jada's obsession to get these kids into show business?
Ok.my name is Christy Williams/all U ppl that has posted all this Negative stuff about this Family is really jealous.I'm so glad that Will and his Family dnt need yall permission on How 2 spend His hard earned money that He worked so hard 2 make and get!I have One sentence 2 say 2 all the Haters! No life so shut your Brokes Asses. Up!!God Bless Willow N Annie the new movie with a Black child.Do what U all do best "Make that Money"lol
If my father was Will Smith I guess he would buy any role ....lets face if she was a poor little black girl she could not get ANNIE role, is because her father is who he is, and he tries to make his darling little girls a movie star, GET MY DRIFT?
I think Will came a long way from Fresh Prince, He has became a pretty good actor and director made movie theater owners rich. I think he know what he's doing, I don't think he will put the red hair on her untill he gets her skin bleached.
All of you are some str8 idiots.....Just bcuz her parents have money and want to see their kids make it in the industry does not make them less talented then anybody else....GET A LIFE and leave the Smith's alone...Geesh!!!!!
Yeah, and let's make an MLK film with Sean Connery as MLK...
Check this out about willow
It all depends on how the movie is written, directed, editted, and marketed. if will has the means to do it all, go ahead mr smith. ameericans waste money on many things they think r great and end up being a bust. thats how we end up with cult classics later in life. you all speak of the wiz many a time, yet when it came out, a bust, but thanks to internet, it lives on. many a movie or tv show failed becuz they were not givn a chance, so those people didnt have a paycheck. he has the means to make it happen, make it happen. will i watch, most likely not due to the fact the 12.31.2010concert of whip my hair has shown me, it was stupid and not a song for her age group and over age dancers behind as backup, just all didnt appeal to me. but good luck in ur career if it lasts 5 years
wow, I shouldn't be shocked to read all of these racist comments but quite frankly I am. It is just beyond sad. All of you who are focusing on race really need to take a good look at yourself and your character. You obviously view the world through a very different lens. Why does someone playing the role of Anne have to have red hair? What if Annie had brown hair in the original, what would your excuse be then? And before you give the lame excuse of "her red hair is iconic" you can just save your breath. You are hiding behind the red hair as an excuse for your racism... plain and simple. Now I honeslty probably wouldn't even see this remake... they have already done a remake of this film and despitle the awesomeness that is Kathy Bates... they will never be able to recreate the magic of the original.
They should just leave this movie alone there is no need to remake Annie. Annie is a classic movie from the 80's and it should stay that way. You can't have Willow Smith playing Annie it's just not going to work. That's like saying; Johnny Deep playing the part of Malcom X? It wouldn't work and it would be ridiculous. Example: remeber when they tried to remake Wizard of Oz and called it the OZ? where did that go? no where. Because they are some movies that you dont remake. If they are going to remake Annie i would vote for Alyson Stoner to play Annie, but that is just my opinion. Willow is a bad choice for Annie
:) Cant wait to see it.
What is it with this trend of remaking movies and shows that originally starred whites or non-blacks, with black people? The Honeymooners, Karate Kid, now Annie.
Let's remake Sanford and Son with Clint Eastwood and Ben Affleck. How about Amos and Andy with Charlie Sheen and Emilio Estevez? What's Happening starring Michael Cera as Raj, Jonah Hill as Rerun, and Justin Bieber as Dwayne.
Forget the race thing, I got no problem with that, how about... I don't know... COME UP WITH YOUR OWN STORY!!! Do your fu–ing job (hollywood).
Yall r funny as hell yelling she needs to be in school! What u never heard of a tutor? Trust her parents r not just letting her run around, she is getting a better education than ur child!! So lets hear the next excuse for why she couldnt play Annie oh and by the way if u open ur mind and eyes aome black people are born with curly red hair!!!
I don't see what the big deal is. Of course the orginal annie had red hair and freckles but its 2010. The disney movie Cinderella was with a white princess. They made a adaptation of that movie staring the singer Brandy as Cinderella and the prince was asian. A adapatation is a reworked copy. So of course my fellow racist and stupid blogers the orginal annie had red hair and freeckles but who's to say that that's final...what's wrong with...dare a say it...being orginal.
Another unnecessary remake. I mostly don't care who plays Annie (preferably not a Smith), but they actually have to SING. I'm tired of people getting a musical career because of Auto-tune. Whatever happened to actually being able to sing and having talent? On a side note, I will never see the remake of Karate Kid. I may have if they'd called it Kung Fu Kid, because there wasn't a shred of karate in the movie.
If I remember correctly, The remake of The Karate Kid didnt fare well at the box office. If the parents want to put the money up to make a movie that stars their child. Let em at it. Doesn't mean any of the kids have any talent, or will follow in their parents footsteps. It's not as if Jada is a box office draw herself. Nothing like riding on the tailcoat of someone who use to be a good actor but hasnt done anything to do a jig about.
The parents may have $$$$, and they may do good in other areas of helping the fellow man out. It is what it is..... Surprise us Smith Family. (The Smith family goes to Washington, that sounds like a good movie).
Jayden's acting talent was amazing in Karate(KUNG FU) kid. If Willow is as good as he is the movie will be a tremendous success.
Willow is 10 year old and school isn't even out for summer break yet! She needs to be in school, NOT on a stage (nor in any recording studio nor on some tv show)! I'm sick of all these celeb parents giving in to their kids whims to be in show business just like daddy/mommy/sister/brother/aunt/uncle/cousin, etc. Kids need to be in school during the school year – NOT in show business! If dear daddy really wants Willow to be in yet another remake of 'Annie' then it should be filmed when she's out of school for summer break, NOT during the school year!
How do you know that she isn't in school? There are a variety of ways children go to school and some of the ways to accommodate child artists. While she may not attend public school, private, parochial, and home schools can offer her the flexibility to do other things outside of traditional school work.
I'm really not trying to be racist here, but one of the signature characteristics of Annie is her bright red curly hair. I don't think a black girl would fit that role.
I forgot, this is WHITE America and you all are HATERS because she is black, young, and has more money in her piggy bank that your family does. LOL
When will u stupid people understand that this is America and we r free to make, remake, see or not to see different things. R u mad because they have money? R u mad because their kids have talent? R u mad because white people r now the minority in this country? Grow up and get over it!!!
Ok...The Honeymooners,Whoopi playing a leprchaun, and now this...c'mon people...update the music, modernize the setting...then change the name!!! If it ain't a true remake of "Annie",then it ain't Annie.Perhaps we could call it "Latisha":...either way Iwonderhat the uproar would be if someone wanted to do a movie version of the "Cosby Show"...using all caucasion!!!
I cannot believe that a whole bunch of grown-ups no matter the color is sitting here arguing about another person child's future. Just don't raise your children that way if you object. You are a bunch of biggots and jealous people who mind is narrowed down to who plays what. Don't go see it. Because say its going to be a flop, dosen't mean that it is. If so you are i the wrong business, you need to be a critic not a critizing little hater. Did anyone tell Drew Barrymore to go to school or Shirley Temple? How about Gary Coleman, Stevie Wonder? Get a life, let these people do what they do.
LOL, Gary Coleman would have been better off getting a degree. Not the best example to make your point. They are thrusting her out into the public domain of movies. We can state our opinion on that all we want. It's not like we're commenting on their house rules.
@Dave That is the most lame excuse for people to use. Just because people are celebrities and start in movies or make music, does not mean that it gives you the right to talk trash about a little girl! SHE IS A LITTLE GIRL! Everyone keeps saying that she is trying to be an adult, PROVE IT! She made a kid song, she is making a kid movie, someone please explain how she is trying to be an adult. You people are sick and sad. Get a life
What trash talk has come from me? My comments have been logical and respectful.
These comments are so RACIST! She is a pretty 10 year old, dresses a little too grown up for me, but leave the kid alone. If her dad wants to make over a movie, so what? If you don't like it, don't see it! This is still America, right?
I did not know that there were so many HATERS in the world. And for the ones who are saying that the Smith's are stilling this movie and it should be a redhead white girl as Anne, where do you think Elvis got his music from?????? He stole it from the blacks. Paybacks are hell !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
keep thinking that you idiot
You cannot be STILLING a movie.. you can be STEALING a movie... you truly are retarded.. go get a dictionary DUMMY
Cleopatra wasn't white but that didn't stop Hollywood from using Liz Taylor. More power to WIllow.
Uh no Cleopatra was not black. She was born in Egypt to a GREEK family.
I LUV THAT YOU ALL ARE SOOOO MAD!!!!
[...that Obama The Black Dude is Prez, that the Michelle The Black First Lady is a hottie, that the Cute Obama Kids are jumping on the bed in the Lincoln Bedroom right about now, that Bo the Black Dog is crapping in the Rose Garden right about now, that a Black man like Will Smith who is married to a beautiful Black woman has enough money to do what the he11 ever he wants with it, including putting his two talented Black kids in the movies. I could go on, but your heads are about to explode right...about...NOW!]
oh WOW!!!! Smith haters. The family is doing what their good at. How about you all try to do what your good at.At the end of tin day the Smiths are getting paid. Not their haters…
her hair is so frizzy.looks like my PUBIC HAIR
@For the white folk..... Since Obama took presidency all black people want to take over the world?? Really, well how sad that it took a black president for YOU to figure that one out lol.. let alone speak your mind.. That's not the "white folk" fault.. you all were just to scared. Simple as that!
Great, another no talent azz clown "Smith" on the big picture. When will Mr. Smith realize non of the Smiths can act worth a sh1t? The fact that you have to produce the movie for your little monkies to be in, should be a clue. Here's another clue, how well did "The Afro-Karate Kid" do at the box office? Smith, here's your sign!
All you friggin crybabies yelling racism, please stop it. I'm a HUUUGE Will Smith fan from way back in the day and have always wished the royal Fresh Prince Family well, but this has got to stop. This is Hollywood feeding Hollywood at its finest. The last time I checked, the Karate Kid was a white kid from the suburbs, and Annie was a pale, freckle faced white girl w/ flaming red curly hair. Why do these producers and writers insist on rewriting roles to fit these 2 kids into? I'm sure there will plenty of work out there for them w/o having to reinvent parts for them. I'm going to rewrite Malcolm X starring Jim Carey. I'd also like to see Robin Williams playing MLK. Now that would be something....This is not racism, it's just nonsensical to cast these 2 black kids into classic white roles for the sake of being PC. Next black person that cries racism, I'm going to wet their lips and stick em to the wall....
What next? She stars as a daughter and Will as Tevye in Fiddle on the Roof?? I'm sure the Hollywood community would love an anglo-saxon take on The Wiz! "You stole it from us! Why are you making it with a white cast?" they'd say. Smith seems to not have the brain capacity to come up with his own logical films. This is idiotic. I've seen enough of this "PC"ing of Hollywood.
Not one person on here can say if you were in the position the Smith's are in that you wouldn't help your children become what they want! How can you say its the parents pushing this on the kids? This is their life! Stop being jealous of something these people have built for themselves because you would too if you could. If you say you wouldn't you're lying! God Bless You Smith Family!
If we can turn "The Wizard of Oz" into "The Wiz" .....I'm just saying....let the girl be Annie – it's America and that's how we roll these days. In 2050 it'll be a latino, and 2070 it'll be an Asian kid...more important things to throw a hissy fit about than who plays "Annie" – sheesh!
It's amazing how many undercover bigots there are. Do u really think that Will gives a s- what you people think u never attended a play unless u call sitting outside of your trailor watching your trailor friends running behind each other with butcher knives and drinking from a broken jar.
Do you honestly think Will Smith and his family give a crap about any of these black people on here defending them? The last black person Will Smith ever hung out with was Uncle Phil. The Smiths are so far removed from the black community, they lock their doors when they drive through the inner city. Trust me. Stop trying to identify w/ them as being blacks. They are not black. They are animated creations by the white man.
After this, can Kevin Bacon star in a remake of Spike Lee's movie about Malcolm X?
hahahaha!! Good one
Ummmm no dear because unlike Annie who is a FICTIONAL characte, Malcom X was a REAL LIVE PERSON and that would just be stupid. If you have nothing intelligent to say, it's better not to say anything and then no one will know how really dumb you are.
I would never hate on anyone super star or not willow do yo thang ur young gorgeous and smart with beautiful parents keep on further your career and watch these overgrown people hate......ms.pink
Look I like Will Smith and enjoy his movies. However that does not mean that I want to see his kids in a remake of a far better movie so Daddy's kids can be movie stars also. This is just plain stupid.
haha! That is one ugly looking kid
Blah blah blah. Nuff said.
SHE'S A NO TALENT BRAT.I agree though lets just make everyone BLACK.WOLVERINE BLACK..SPIDER MAN BLACK..SUPERMAN BLACK..HELL LETS DO A REMAKE OF JFK AND WILL SMITH WILL PLAY IT
Whiner. You're over-reacting.
Next week, Clay Aiken stars as Shaft.
Awesome! Now they just need a Latino to play Daddy Warbucks and script up some Muslim related background for Punjab and the PC transformation will be complete!
that's one ugly looking kid
Bashing cruelly on little kids. What a man.
I happen to think that it is a great idea for Willow Smith to redo Annie. She is a very pretty young girl and skin color should not matter. Honestly, it is ridiculous to see that so many people can sit here and say, after what our country has been through to give African Americans their own rights, that an innocent young girl should not do this movie. You are wrong, she has every right to do this if she wants to. Get a hold of yourselves people. She is just a young girl trying to make her mark in the world.
Having a talented father does not mean she has one unique bone in her body. Someone give this kid a hard smack and send her to her room.
Kudos to the Smith family, for trying to make wholesome family entertainment. Ppl, stop hating already. It's getting sooo tired.
i'm sorry but Willow CAN NOT be annie! it wouldn't look or feel the same if willow was annie... my apologies
Its not Willow's fault that her parents cant let her fail or succeed on her own merits.
People are getting angry because a dad is proud of his talented kids and is doing anything he can to make their dreams come true! woudnt you help your kids in whatever they wanted to do, sports for instance. most people in the world are so full of haterd for others, why not support eachother so that we all can survive and be happy with our lives. :)
So, it Willow going to do the part in white face? Nothing but butt kissing going on here for her to play Annie. Jeesh.
I hear they are also making a remake of the malcolm x movie starring bruce willis as malcolm x.
Malcolm X was a real person. Annie is a fictional character. Huge difference.
I've seen a better looking monkey than that brat
Mike, is it possible for you to return to your home planet? Oh wait ... they don't want either ... how sad.
@keorr hey you are so immature and childish. Why don you get a life or better yet ask somebody to smack you.
The problem is, there's no originality in Hollywood any more so they have to just take what's been done and re-do it. That's pretty d*mn sad. Either no new talent, or just too lazy.
Is that a he Or a she? Only reason that thing is famous is because her or his dad is famous. Pathetic. here's my cell if you got something to say to me. 513/805/6202. Btw thatso one ugly kid
lets just make batman black
lets just BLACK UP everything WHITE FOR NO REASON -cant you people be original?
"Black everything up" wow, that is quite a statement. I feel sorry for you. I don't know whether you realize how racist your statement was or if you just don't care. Why are those roles you mentioned reserved exlusively for white actors simply because they were originally done by white men? That is by far one of the most ignorant statements I have heard in a long time... and that is saying something considering the embarrassment of many of these posts. I will never understand the total lact of respect and outright hate that some people possess. Obviously you were raised by racists and taught to think like them. It is unfortunate that you will no doubt pass that hate on to your own children... I only hope that they can see past your ignorance and help shape a positive future for this country and not perpetuate the close mindedness many still spew from their mouths. I pitty you, I really do.
ok ...Disney did a fantastic live action remake of Cinderella for TV with Brandi as Cinderella and an Asian as the prince...this was truly how the story could be reimagined if they wanted to. Unfortunately the character of ANNIE is a red head child....so not sure how they plan on fudging that.
And Disney also did a better remake of ANNIE for TV use a black actress for the secretary to Oliver Warbucks...and multi ethnic groups for the orphans...but ANNIE was still a red head.
West Side Story is Romeo and Juliet with a different setting. It would be nice if they got creative with the idea and only loosely used the concept of the Annie comics and their characters. Then I might consider it
@dave your always on here.get a job you bum
THe Smiths are such a talented family-the parents and children. The Karate Kid was excellent.
Agreed. And to those criticizing the Smiths launching their kids' careers, can you honestly say you wouldn't do the same for your children given the pull that Will and Jada have? Who doesn't want to see their children succeed in life?
@Jaet: My point is what's good for her. Landing rolls and be ushered along by her famous dad will only be good short term. Later on, it will be better if she started at the bottom and earned her own way. I firmly believe that. No such thing as quick and easy.
@dave Who are you to say what's good for someone else's kid?
MW: I'm me, and I'll speak my opinion on anything I want. Who are you to tell me I can't?
@dave I didn't say you couldn't. I just figured you were some expert who actually had an opinion that mattered.
Do you honestly believe that the SMITH children would have the careers they do if their parents didn't pay for them? Jaden is only ok as an actor...but I would not put him up against child actors like Dakota Fanning, Elijah Woods, and even Haley Joel Osmet. Those children got parts because of their talents...not their parents buying them their parts and movies.
It would be a terrible mistake to remake the show "Annie". I dont understand the concept of remaking shows that are magical the first time around. All they end up doing is destroying it the second time. As a parent I dont understand why you would push your kids into that pressure so early. Let them be kids. And on another note, Willow's one hit wonder, "Flip Your Hair" or whatever the name was just AWFUL!!! But, I think alot of young singers these days are terrible like Taylor Swift, Britney Spears, among others whom cant hit a note at all. The music just covers it up. I know I got off the track here. But seriously, I wont be watching the remake.
The sun'll come out... back and forth! The sun'll come out... back and forth!
The sun'll come out... back and forth!
Disgusting–once again, Will Smith is buying something a project for his pampered princess to star in.
Question–why are these children not in school? They drag them to movie premieres, fashion shows, etc. that occur during regular school days. Do they have $cientology tutors or something because they are too good and too talented for public school?
I totally agree!
Anyone offended if my white cousin plays Harriet Tubman in my interpretation of her life. Think it's more fun if she's good looking rather than realistic. Comment back.
How about Helen Mirran for Rosa Parks?
If Will wants to just throw away millions of dollars, I want to give him address where he can mail me the check. His star is dimming too.
Please stop it, Will Smith. We liked your parts in several shows, which means we like the characters that the writers created and we liked your acting. But please stop insisting on shoving your gene pool down everyone's throat. Your kids are nice kids, I'm sure. It doesn't mean that I want to see your son play Fonzie on a Happy Days remake or your daughter pretending she can sing or play Jackie Kennedy as a little girl. You must have taken a couple hits to your head when filming "Ali" because you've been acting insane for a while. P.S. I'm black and I'm sick of it.
If you don't like it..DONT GO SEE IT!!!..SIMPLE...why the racist comments?!? white or back most of you idiots wouldn't go see the movie anyway. At least by having a black Annie it stirs some interest. It sucks that this country is still so racist. Judge the movie for the movie. If it sucks then it sucks. But don't say it sucks because Annie will be black!!
Just what the world needs: LITTLE BLACK ANNIE
A black playing the role of Annie? Come on now. That's like a while playing the role in the color purple!
i knew race would come up. well what about when white folks, such as liz taylor played egyptians which were black? oh that chit was ok though right. grow up!
Um Cleopatra wasn't black.
She was black my friend, study just a little before you speak. We are very sure she was not white.
Are you all sure you're adults? This is a child we're talking about and you're the ones acting like children. Also, last I checked human being do have free will to choose what movies they want and don't want to see. Why do you care if it becomes a movie? You don't have to see it now do you? That's all, you can go back to talking about how little girls suck.
2 all u haters, she just want 2 do her thing. This is an child, she is learnin, let her b,u ppl r the biggest bullies of all. If its a hit or not at less she learned somthin.STOP THE HATERED. M.L.M
Racist Pigs with nothing to do.... You can type all the racist comments till you drop dead but gues what... The movie wil be made .. it will make the Smiths more richer hile you sorry ass sits home typing baseless a racist comments....LOSERS
You are the loser Sandra! Trying to pretend you are someone you aren't. Let me guess, you are 200lbs sitting home watching dr. Phil eating a donut with typing on the computer.
It's so blatent that she is riding the coattails of her pop. Where is the work to prove her skills, or even earn them for that matter. Nothing good is free in this world and there is no replacing earning a position. I thought Will was smarter than that, but I don't have a daughter, so maybe I can't speak on the mistake of spoiling a child.
To all the haters that are revealing sheer prejudice. I understand your emotions of fear and inferiority. But the bottomline is your opinion of emotions does not count and will not be a benefit to the remake of the movie because you are BROKE -minded, spirited and financially. So therefore, your comments with NOT deter the remake of this movie! And I am surprised that you can afford the internet. But anyways, if you want to change anything go forth to Hollywood with your moeny and ideas and see if you can out do or stop the making of the movie. I seriously doubt you can do it. Why because you do not have any POWER nor MONEY! You just thrive off of broken hopes that you did not or cannot do anything for yourself...
Is Willow as smarmy as she looks in the picture?
It is so sad to read so many racist posts. How can people be so mean to a child. White people get a clue, the world does not revolve around just your ideas and thoughts. There are other races in the world than just white. Like it or not, Will smith's movies and projects does really well and are very profitable. Evidently, many people are enjoying it and does not need racist haters to help him fill his pockets.
You people like sarah palin and her group are not rasist they are jealous, because jealousy is as evil as the grave.
Americans are the most racists pigs in the world..period...Smith got the money to change the movie go right it . Comments by half breed interbreeding people will not change anything...BTW – the karate kid remake made so much money compared to the first movie. i am sure an Annir remake with a talent young girl will do the same.... go drink ur moon shine
Looks to me like Will Smith saw episode one, season one of Boston Legal.
They are re-making so many movies because Hollywood can't come up with any new ideas- THEN to add insult to injury- cast no talent kids like Willow Smith in them. PLEASE don't cast her in anything-she sucks and so does her brother. They are both too cheesy even for their age.
I live in B more and this city has much respect for the Smiths for their suport of the School for the Arts but it bothers me they keep BUYING their kids careers. Why can't they prepare to be Drs, social workers or lawyers etc.? If I remember Will turned down a scholly to MIT to pursue his dream BUT why not let his kids be kids. Why does every entertainer's kids have to be entertainers (nepotism for the untalented) and she's on the label of a former drug dealer Jay Z? When Willow said "I got my singing talent from my mom" I fell out laughing because Jada CAN'T SING but when J Lo is the measuring stick then she can beat Celion, Whitney etc. hahaha Sadly I don't think these kids will turn out well but I'm praying. Will/Jada aren't living what they preach through their children...sad sad sad I refused to support them on Broadway when they teamed up with Jay Z...tired of the SAME OLD PPL!!!
i don't support anything by The Smiths because I'm sick and tired of Oprah, Essence etc. telling the black community rappers and gyrating pop stars represent my interest. I prefer to be represented by The Obamas who represent getting an education to better our community. Someone wrote an excellent post on Essence saying it's not about hating on our own it's about what they represent...NOTHING!!!!!!..HOLLA HOLLA and EXHALE!
Why is it that political ideaology needs to sift its way into each and every conversation these days? It's one thing to not like the direction that this potential movie might take, but what does that have to do with polotics? I would also like to know how it is that you geniouses who like to turn everything into a left/ right thing, can pick out conservatives and/ or liberals just by reading comments?
I love the smiths! and obviously so do millions of other people if their still doing big things. its a remake and they can change what ever they want about the story its not a copy of the original if you dont like it dont watch it, dont comment about it and go do somethin more useful then worry about a 10 year old whos already making more money then any of you will ever see. you also can comment on how will and jada are raising their kids because you dont know! just because their in the spotlight that just means hes approving of them starting their career now and not in 10 years. its not you or your family so what do you care?
So when does the Caucasian re-imagining of "Roots" come out with Kathy Bates as Mathilda, Matt Damon as Kunta Kinte (my name is John!), Harry Connick Jr. as "Chicken" George Moore, Vin Diesel as Fiddler, Will Smith as Ames and John Stamos as Toby. Steven Spielberg can direct it with a nice Hans Zimmer score. Outstanding.
that was bloody brilliant! there are just some things that CANNOT be remade because of the RACE! The fact that no one in Hollywood can come up with an orig. story is scary. I AM LEGEND was the Omega Man..you know charlton Heston.....no need to remake the Karate Kid which was already brilliant on it's own....let's hope they get a clue and look for original material to work with.
They will get to that right after the white version of Raisin in the Sun starring Ashton Kutcher
*laughing so hard I am crying* Some Guy that was bloody brilliant. Oh man. LOL
@SERIOUSLY, what makes us beautiful black men and women so special, is that we can take any trait in THE WORLD and make it look FABULOUS-Take for instance the RED HEADED descendants of Thomas Jefferson, gosh I'm glad we HIDE the information (and anything else that makes you smart) in books...we don't EVER have to worry about you actually cracking one open & scribbling crayon all over it...Now with that said, she is a bad choice NOT because she black, but she doesn't have the "chops" to take on a movie based on big BROADWAY type talent. This requires a true triple threat..love you still willow ;) I wish Raven Simone hadn't grown up!
You mean the ability to ghettofy anything, right? Like putting 24's on everything? Or putting plastic on things like furniture?
And look GOOOOD doing it Red Neck! I will buy and sell your 5$ @zz and make change with my 28's and I don't want your wet dog smell on my couch, so ya darn right i'll keep the plastic on. DUECES!
Evel Kneivel... I shouldn't be surprised that your racist comments showed up on this story. Why do you even read articles concerning people of color if all you do is hate? Your thoughts are filled with stereotypes and generalizations which hold no worth. "ghettofy everything"????? really? do you honestly believe the things you say? pathetic.
R u ppl 4real! If u don't like it don't watch it! And elvis presley stole so much music from blacks it not even funny! So did the beach boys it the american way! The wiz was a great movie
Hmm. I could have sworn Annie had curly red hair.. and there was another characteristic that differs Annie from Willow that I just can't put my finger on... No to Willow as Annie. Do a casting call and let her deserve the spot, instead of having daddy and mommy do all the string pulling for her.
@lauren, if you sit on my dick you also gonna have some red curles. Dont you get it. the fact that you haven had a real man in your life is what makes you be racist. Rememmber your mom use to say: Laurie ONCE YOU GO BLACK, YOU"LL NEVER GO BACK!!! But you know that dont you?
Willow looks like a boy. Ofcourse, so did Annie. So I guess she's suited for the role. But wasn't Annie white though?
It will be as big a hit as "The Wiz"
I don't have anything against the girl, I'm sure she's quite talented.... But, Hollywood, leave this movie alone. Please. I'm sick and tired of movies getting "remade". Movies that don't need to be remade in the first place. Come up with some new ideas, because Annie is a movie that should just be left alone. The lack of imagination in Hollywood is really sad.
Why doesn't Mr Smith do us all a favor and re-make The Wiz instead? That has a much better score.
You would think by now, that Will Smith should have figured out that remakes are not his cup of tea. First, he did Wild Wild West, that flopped BIG TIME. Then, he has his son remake the Karate Kid – which I refuse to see (Don't mess with my childhood). Now, he thinks a remake of Anne with his daughter needs to be made. Get over yourself Will.
i enjoy will smith, that being said..this is like if they made a movie about martin luther king jr and made him white.
GROW UP YOU IGNORANT PEOPLE!!!! These are innocent children you are picking on. Yes they have parents who are celebrities and yes they might have things in life you do not have, but they are no less talented then any other child who acts, in fact they might be more talented and have earned their fame. Kudos to them and their parents for guiding them to make wise decisions. Be kind with your words, you wouldn't want people saying hurtful things to your child/children.
Earned their fame? So you think if their parents weren't Will And Jada they would still be famous?
Shes nine for heavens sake let it go
Who is willow smith?
I think she is that short guy that played in the 1988 movie called Willow, A reluctant dwarf must play a critical role in protecting a special baby from an evil queen. Except she was white in that movie, oh i get it now. That is how she'll be able to play Annie as well.
Don't care, don't care, don't care. Other than Annie having her Iconic red hair, it can be any way they want it to be. Though, I suppose this new version will essentially be a 21st century "The Wiz".
Ah, so nice to see a Hollywood actor pimping out his children. Who needs a childhood when you can just spend it being a horrible actor or actress in roles that your daddy got for you?
Stop hating on the LITTLE GIRL. Something tells me if she were white, there wouldn't be as much whine on this board.
If Annie was remade using a white girl I would STILL find it ridiculous. It is called FIND SOMETHING NEW.
Aw nuts. And here I was hoping Johnny Depp would get the part of Annie after he finished up his work as Tonto in the Lone Ranger remake.
No not...I love the Smiths like everyone one else...but dam. You got to draw the line. Some remakes need to stay the same. Annie was not black...so sorry. I am not rascist because I have a african american adopted son...but the industry needs to stop doing that with movies. Some movies don't need to be change because of color. Just because you can doesn't mean you should. Don't do it. It is wrong. Come on...be realistic...can you just think of everyone else. These remakes that happen bomb because of those particular decision.
If ever there was evidence of racism in this country... just read the majority of these post. Why are people so angry and mean-spirited, what or where does it get you? FYI, The Karate Kid with Jaden did quite well at the box office as will a remake of Annie!
So.................would you accept a remake of say The Color Purple with an all white cast?
If your dad has the bucks then I guess you can star in whatever you want, but does it make sense?
It's a shame that original movies are so scare nowadays.
Yep, that's what really bothers me. Take something old and stretch it rather than create something original.
Since when did Annie become black?
Doesn't Annie have red hair?
This is stupid. Yes, Annie is about a red-headed white girl, and there's nothing racist about pointing out that fact. What's next for Will and Jada? remaking "Gone with the Wind" with them in the leads? That's about as good an idea as "Wild, Wild West."
They need to come up with something original. Hey, Robert Rodriguez did a very successful franchise with Spy Kids with not only Hispanic characters but mixed race family as well – they need to take a page out of his book and think original rather than rip off.
Some people don't know how to leave well enough alone. That is a classic movie that no one should ever remake. Its a shame they have all that money but can't think of their own original classic movie. They have to go mess up someone else's. It's just a bad idea. Leave the classics alone and think of your own original classic!!! Is anyone trying to be creative nowadays or are they just trying to be copycats? I don't get it?! She needs to concentrate on being a child and going to school.
Well said! I would see an original movie, but remakes are really getting on my nerves :)
How did that remake of The Karate Kid do in the box office anyway?
Well it grossed $176,591,618 in the USA
I do not blame Will Smith for the exploitation if his children.......I blame his wife.
Jada comes across as a scheming individual who only likes other people with the same skin colour that she has. I have seen her on Tv many times at awards shows – she only stands up when a fellow African American wins or sings.
When a Caucasion Icon is honoured she either sits or stands with an "I don't care about you" slouch – and never claps. She is rude and unmannerly...and she is using her children for her own purposes.
You are exactly right. She has disgusting behavior in public.
Gee an "Annie' remake, and for about five seconds I had the slightest hope that Hollywood found something new to create a film about. Willow Smith would look kind of funny in Red, curly hair, don't you think? I guess instead of coming up with a new and innovative film with her as the start Hollywood figures they'll make more money revisiting a classic story. But obviously this isn't the first time Will Smith's children were involved in a ridiculous remake of a movie that was made for white actors. Let us not forget about The Karate Kid. Because we all know how likely it is for a young black boy like Jaden Smith to be picked on by Chinese kids.
Actually jon would be likely!
Cleopatra was born in 69 B.C. in Alexandria, Egypt and was of a mixed marriage. So as in America today, that makes her Black.
What's wrong with you people? Racist much? Seriously, why does always Annie have to be a little white girl? Nothing about that role is race specific. If you weren't so close minded, you all would realize that a lot of black people out there have red hair. Not that that should matter. Don't get me wrong, I love the original Annie, but I'm interested in seeing how they're going to reimagine it. Change is sometimes a good thing.
is this gayle? shouldn't you be washing out oprah's panties just about now?
Thank you for that comment. This country is so mixed up it sickens me
Well actually g, Annie was based on the comic strip Little Orphan Annie and she had red hair. But that was a cartoon, not a real person so sure the musical could be re-imagined to be a little black girl. In those days red hair probably suggested she was Irish and at one point the Irish were looked down on as a minority too. But hey...what about Pippi Longstocking next??
Because the original comic strip was a red headed white kid, moron, that's why. Yes, it was race specific from 80 years ago when it was a comic strip.
I sure hope not...Annie has been done over (over done) enough already. Can't see Willow shaking a red wig back and forth...
racist idiots............ I'm going back to work!
It's called Hollywood that is how most of the actors got thier b/c of thier parents or who they knew
What a bunch of racist comments!
I totally agee. Most of our country is so mean spirited.
@SEA The green lantern was black in the Superfirends and now the remake he is white. What is the problem... it's a remake and they are not trying to be the original move it is thier take and they can make it any way they want too, as long as it is approved by the original owners
No, the original Green Latern was white, all the way up until the 1990's remake of the superfriends. Wiki it and see the original 1940's version, looks a lot like Ryan Reynolds. Get your facts straight please. I like the equal rights stuff, but I'm sorry Annie was a little red hair white girl, and that needs to stay that way. I had no problems with Will's other kid playing Karate kid excpet it wasn't frickin karate it was Kung Fu, and they should have called it that. Please Will, don't mess up this movie put her into a more fitting role that we can enjoy without tampering with a classic.
Actually I don't care what race the Green Lantern is, that movie does NOT look good whatever color the actor is!! Gee, maybe there are more important things in a movie ..!
Ok there is more than one Green Lantern.. Check it out at Wikipedia
Any way who really cares. These are FICTIONAL characters.. I can see an uprorar if Willow was to play Helen Keller or Anne Frank or Roseanne Barr(Arnold) was to play Harriet Tubman or Sandra Bullock was to play Michele Obama!!! Get a life people there are more important things to moan and groan about.... this for sure is not one of them......
I REALLY LIKE YOUR VIDEO AND YOUR STYLE AND FASHION!!!d!d!!!!
Willow should be focusing on school and so should her parents. If she chooses to pursue an acting career, she has her whole life ahead of her. How much will it really mean when she is handed roles only because of her parents? Another kid headed for disaster....
Did you hold the same opinion about Billy Ray Cyrus' daughter Miley? How about Bruce Paltorow and Blythe Danner's daughter Gwyneth? How about Martin Sheen's kids Charlie and Emilio Estevez? What about John Voigt's dauther Angelina Jolie? The Spears girls? Donald Sutherland's son Keiffer? All started in their parent's business young but I bet that was ok in your mind. What's different about the Smith family?
Again, people....... Grow up and get a clue... They can remake the movie with anyone they want too.... Simply choose not ot go see it
BEST COMMENT ON THIS PAGE!!!! IT'S SAD THAT IT'S ALWAYS A BLACK/WHITE ISSUE. MOST OF WHAT I'M READING IS PURE JELOUSY. BEST WISHES TO THE SMITH FAMILY.
I love Will, Jayden, Willow and company...HOWEVER...this is a story of a poor little WHITE girl not a BLACK girl, the poing being if it was reversed the claim would be that we are interfering wiht black history or movie culture. This has been going on too long...the Nutty Propfessor, The Wild Wild West, the Karate Kid just to name a few. If you want to bring the world together, stop with this crap. How would True Grit have been with Samuel L Jackson, GREAT, but not accurate.
All of those movies were fiction...what does accuracy have to do with it?
Ok. Ive read all the responses to this. And I NEVER respond to anything to do with the so called "stars" of our time. But in this case, I guess Im compelled to just add 2 cents. I am a huge fan of Will Smith. Jada, not overly excited but shes ok, but the kids....... talented, yes, cute, absolutely, parented right........ who knows. They live in a different world than us, but seriously, Im a classic fan, remaking casablanca would be a sin, remaking the wizard of oz, perish the thought, how about gone with the wind? where is the line? And then, mind you, annie? Its a musical, its been done how many times? Is being black now just a new twist? I guess I just dont understand why hollywood cant seem to come up with something original for her to do. She does have talent, just not as much as her parents tell her. I guess its just getting a little out of hand. Maybe there should be a roots remake, cast all the slaves as white. Bet you would see the s#$% hit the fan. It would be so out of character that no one would even tune in. Or maybe they would watch just to see how bad it could be.
Actually Cleopatra was Greek.
Annie was based on a 1920's comic strip called Little Orphan Annie.
Cleopatra was born in 69 B.C. in Alexandria, Egypt to a mixed marriage. As American custom goes, that makes her black.
Imagine the uproar if people started remaking black stories with white characters. Can't Will come up with something original?
a GOLDEN raisin in the sun
in the heat of the DAY
the color AUBERGINE
do the TRULY right thing
lady LIP SYNCS the blues
waiting to INHALE
I was thinking the EXACT same thing!
I agree, we should throw out all those "American Classics" that had WHITE FOLKS playing JEWS (like Jesus, or Moses), or AFRICAN / EGYPTIAN QUEENS (like Cleopatra)...
This RACISM is SO BLATANT. I'm glad you're showing your true colors...
WERE not black
LOOK AT THEM.......LOOK AT THE BUST OF CLEOPATRA...IS THAT THE NOSE OF A AFRICAN? no
@To the white folks–
Cleopatra is not African nor was she black. She was Greek.
No more Smith movies... I can't take anymore!
I can't think of a bad movie he was in. Hell of an actor.
@RamRod: OH COME ON!!! That western with Kevin Kline. Can't think of it's name. Terrible. He's done many good ones though.
Jesus, I am SICK of hearing about this no talent kid that is OBVIOUSLY a clothing designers JOKE cause she is ALWAYS dressed like a complete FOOL! Let's all pitch in and BUY HER A MIRROR!!
Will Smith needs to stop buying movies for his kids to be in
hahaha, I completely agree. (I know that's a Tosh.O reference)
Is there really an audience demand for an "Annie" re-make? Will, I'm disappointed with you. It's great that you have the means to provide your children with such fantastic opportunities but please, come up with something original and fresh (prince).
Yeah I think she would be a good Annie.... has to be outgoing... a little goofy... able to sing. She still has to grow into her daddy's ears but she will do fine. As for the racism being posted here, grow up people. Since when did the color of a person's skin dictate their ability to act?
ok. pose that same question to BET. how many whites do you see on that network? equality means equality for ALL, not just for when it's beneficial for some.
Some of you Americans are insane..
With those ears, she could play any role involving an elf.
LOL!!! So true!
What is the FIRST thing you remember about Annie? red curly hair.
Sorry, Annie cannot be black. If they want to make a movie about a black orphan child, write your own damn script.
Why not remake Annie? They ghettofied The Wizard of Oz with Michael Jackson's The Wiz, why not ghetto up another American classic and take it straight down into the heart of the Bronx. Seriously. lol. Vince Rhames would be the perfect Daddy Warbucks. Maybe Warbucks will now take on a whole new meaning to the name...
Well someone's been sipin on their haterade...
If you don't approve, then oh wow here's a thought...DONT WATCH IT!
and fyi they don't "ghettofye" or watever the hell word u made up...they make it their own and I commend them on it.
Fyi it's not Michael Jackson's the Wiz...he was just an actor in it.
Annie...hey, it's different. it's weird but alwell...dn't watch it and stop hating on a 10 year old. #thatisall
Better: P Diddy at Daddy Warbucks
Ok that was hilarious Why not?
Wow, what jealous nasty people. Good thing thier are a million channels so you do not have to watch it. I personally think this child is adorable. And my Grandchildren will be watching this movie. Bunch of uneducated idiots.
I agree Ruby. After reading the hate comments OMG! I cannot understand why they are not happy for Willow Smith. They really need to get their acts together and do something worthwhile. It is ashame that they are hating like that! PEACE RUBY KEEP SPEAKING YOUR MIND BECAUSE I KNOW I WILL.
I agree... To wish harm on children or anyone without cause how terribly sad
That's not a nice way to talk about your grandkids.
This family is the Sarah Palin of Hollywood, I'm sick of all of them.
Yet you still had to read about them and leave a comment. It just amazes me how many times I see someone post that they wish that person would go away. Ever hear of ignoring it??? If I ignore you – will you go away?? HA HA HA HA HA. I like the Smith's – more power to them.
Looks like someone plopped a fresh STEAMER on that poor kids head.
Annie should only be redone if a little white girl with RED CURLY hair naturally takes the part. It will make no sense any other way. Sorry Willow maybe next time.
Annie is a FICTIONAL character, people. The premise of the story is that an orphan gets adopted by a rich man. Since when were orphans only little red-headed white girls? Please..... You know, I would swear there were orphans of all races and colors around the world. Of course, reading these responses a person would think that only white kids can be orphans. I hate to play the race card, but, man. Are white people that insecure that they are in an uproar about a little black girl playing an orphan being saved by a rich man? Oh my goodness!
Yeah, Oh My Goodness, it could be another part other than a red head, but does it really NEED to be? Why can't anyone in Hollywood think of an original story for this kid to act in instead of having to remaike everything. C'mon Will. Put your kids in something original for a change.
Dear god please wipe hollywood off the face of the planet. Thanks!
HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!! Good one! :) I agree!
It wouldn't work – they would all just move to Vancouver, since that is where most movies appear to be made nowadays anyway.
was not a big of the 83 remake. You can not make this production be like the original cast of the 1977 broadway show no one will ever come close to andrea mcardle's voice. They will probably urbanize the movie like the wiz
The original Broadway production of Annie took place in New York City. How is that NOT urbanized already?
How about "ghettoize?"
RoboCop and Ice Pirates are classics, who cares about orphans when you can have fighting robots in a movie!
holy crap. it's not enough that we've had to endure the likes of will smith and jada, but now their spawn? the sun will NOT come out tomorrow.
lol...i love it!
WIlliow is horrible! She was such a joke on the Ryan Seacrest (Dick Clark) News Years celebration. Her lip syncing was so bad I was laughing. She has zero talent as a singer and would never have anyone give her a second look if it were not for her Mother and Father being famous. If Hollywierd is planning to remake "Annie" I hope they at least find someone with talent.
Hollywood isn't remaking "annie" as the article says Will Smith is doing the remake himself just for Willow, there will be no casting call for the role.
It fascinates me that another classic movie (or in this case, movie-musical) is being remade when it doesn't need to be. First, Smith, Jr. takes on Karate Kid. Jackie Chan is no Pat Morita,. nor is Smith, Jr. a Daniel-Son. Secondly, the whole premise of little orphan Annie is a red-headed, curly haired orphan. How WIllow Smith is going to pull that off, well, they'll have to use Avatar-like special effects to make that happen. Please, Mr. Will Smith, stop messing with movies that just don't need a 'do-over.' If you need to re-make something, why not go after movies like RoboCop or bad 80's movies like Ice Pirates?
Ice pirates would be an awesome movie to remake.
More tr1pe from the Smith family. The parents are terrible and kids are worse.
I always liked and respected WillS for being a hard working, self made man. Seems like he's allowing or pushing his daughter they opposite way. She should focus on school and other learning ways rather than trying to be a "star". The American public is fickle and has little patience for shallow prop ups. She should wait.
Hey Dave, ever heard of Shirley Temple?
willow needs to do something useful like be quiet and read a book instead of tring to be grown ur like 8!! stop acting you are no good and never will be
No one said anything about child actors until now. Nothing makes these kids so different. Why say that she needs to be quiet and read a book? And you've never seen her act so why say that she's no good or ever will be? You are pathetic. All of you are on this page. Your comments are so hurtful and I hope she is not reading any of these. Would you want someone to say things like this to your kids. Nevermind, you probably say things like this to them yourself. For you adults who are throwing tantrums about a child and lashing out across the internet, if you all had the money, you would be doing the same for your kids too. So stop with the childish comments. People, grow up! Whatever age this girl is, she has way more class than many of you.
sick of the smith's already
willow sucks this movie will be a watse of time and a downfall like her brother in karate kid these kids just need to be quite and go to school like everyone else!
I'm sick of them too- this remake will be so unauthentic. I hate when Hollyweird tries to put a PC spin on every remake. I loved the original movie. Oh well.
I'm curious, how *exactly* would casting Willow Smith be "PC"? I thought you conservative types didn't actually see color or were color blind, yet the casting of an African-American actress in a movie results in anger about what exactly?
It is "Quite" obvious, that you also need to be in school with these kids Pete and then maybe you all can be "Quiet" together. IMO
The karate kid was a good movie. All of the children actors and actresses did a great job. They will only get better and I see the potential for greatness. The karate moves and athleticism alone was something to be praised.
Ok, look I know reinterpretations are all the rage and all that, but a black girl with curly red hair??????
My suspension of disbelief can only go so far Mr. Smith.
They're loser to choose black over redhair white girl! I will NOT watch this movie show for sure. They are re-write the history – just alike NCAAP if you check the today's news! Serious case!
All this politically correct crap is growing old and not making any serious money. From The Wild Wild West and The Honeymooners to Annie? IT WILL FLOP.
Why does it have to be considered being politically correct when a role that was originally played by a white person is played by a none-white? That's like saying hip hop dance or music that is not performed by a black or hispanic person is not hip hop! I guess you guys are part of the we must take our country back crowd!
@For the white folk- You are the biggest racist on this page. Change everything to black. Ya right then it wouldn't be a classic. No one wants to read your pathetic comments. Go back to stealing something that is what you are good at.
give a break. red hair is not limited to white. YOU GO WILLOW. and believe me ophans are also not limited to white kids. sorry if reality hurts.
For the record, I am white, and I think it is sad that this conversation has degraded into a racist tirade on both sides. But regardless of that, you cannot deny the facts. Casting is about believability, the viewers must believe that the actor or actress IS that character, this is what transports the viewer into the fantasy world the movie creates.
Color has nothing to do with it....unless color prevents the viewer from believing that any particular actor or actress IS their character. For instance, would you be fully swept up into the fantasy world of Uncle Tom's Cabin if they cast Kathy Bates as Harriett Tubman?? I don't think any of us would. What about Matt Damon as Martin Luther King, Jr. I think this is the point that some people are trying to make (minus the racist remarks). Sometimes it may work to replace a traditionally white role with a non-white. Just look at the BBC production "Merlin" and their lead Guinivere - it totally works. But sometimes, it doesn't work.
Orphan Annie IS a liittle white girl with curle red hair! So much so, that even little white girls with blond or brown hair have always had to don a wig and paint their face with freckles to play this part. That IS who Annie is.
@fortheblackidiot – I couldn't agree with you more and I'm black.
@ forthewhitefolk. Exactly how were you oppressed? Were you a slave? Were you not allowed to vote? Did you have to sit in the back of the bus? Couldn't you sit at the Woolworth's soda counter?
Get over it!.
What would happen if Martin Luther King was played by an asian? Still a visible minority.....
Just doesn't make sense that to cast an African American as a white red-head. Leave that to the Wayan brothers.
This should not be about race, this should be about a movie and the root of the story. Annie was a white red headed orphan. Period.
The best Cinderella I ever saw was ABC's version with Brandy as Cinderella and a very good cast that was hired because of talent, not color. Annie was also done with Audra Macdonald as the secretary to Victor Garber's Daddy Warbucks and they end up together at the end. Who cares what color someone is if they can sing, dance and act?
Last I checked, Harriet Tubman and Martin Luther King were real people. That's why it would be important to cast people who look like them.
Annie is FICTIONAL character. I think FICTION is free to any interpretation.
@Brett: they are re-write the history!: Umm, I've got news for you, Annie's not real...! But it would also be nice to have some original projects for his kids, instead of just re-making movies that starred white kids. Still they re-make and 're-imagine' so many things these days, what's the difference?!
I totally understand your frustration. We felt/feel the same way hollywood altered Cleopatra's image from that of a black African queen to a Caucasian brunet. A white African queen?? Sucks huh...
@Really- Although Cleopatra was the last Pharaoh of Egypt, she was actually of Greek descent, which is why she is often portrayed the way she is. She was part of a Greek family that ruled over Egypt.
Cleopatra was born in 69 B.C. in Alexandria, Egypt to Pharaoh Ptolemy XII Auletes and his wife Cleopatra V . Yes she was of a bi-racial stock. In America that makes her black.
PS. Most Greeks of that time were also of a bi-racial stock.
Jealous much, cheefsfury? What an ignoramus! I'm not a big fan of Willow's but I wouldn't wish harm on somebody because I don't like them.
YAH BRO IM SO JELOUS I WISH I WAS WILLOW SMITH
She looks like a spoiled little brat.
How, exactly, does one look like a spoiled brat?
hahaha cheefsfury is jealous of willow and wants to be her!
I don't give a damn about right or wrong or left or wright–ANNIE is white, with red hair, and all that crap–WIll Smith's daughter has NO PLACE in this–and Will Smith, you'd better RECOGNIZE!
If your daddy buys you a billion dollar movie deal just so that you can be in it....you MIGHT be a spoiled brat!
I see people both black and white showing their inner racist. And it's sad. Acting is about playing a part, to which any person can play. Regardless of race. Yes Annie was white with freckles, the biggest ginger on the planet, and the most famous. But the question is, in today's society. How many black women do you see in magazine, tv shows, etc. With Red hair... the answer is tons. Anyone can dye their hair it's not an issue. As far as freckles, anyone of any race can have that too. She just isn't white.
Actors over the years have tried several times to break the very same color barrier in part that some people here are trying to put back up. Will Smith himself has gotten traditional Roles that were meant for white actors. I think this is a progressive step. I'm sure people said the same things you guys are saying now about rogers and hammerstein Cinderella remake, which wasn't bad at all. An Asian prince charming is something that we would not have normally seen, but it worked. Even though his parents were black and white.
So stop playing the race game, it's dead and old. There is actually an mutilracial man in the white house which is something I thought i'd never live to see. So Grow up.
Nothing to do with black or white IMHO. However, time will tell if a black "Annie" will work out in this role. Who knows - it may be amazing or it may flop.
What is really bugs me is that that is no little girl. That is a made up product you're looking at right there. That little 10-year-old has as much makeup on a twenty-something out for a night on the town. Sad, sad, sad.
Ok, I LOVE BLACK PEOPLE, part of my family is BLACK, so just to clarify
Lets do this
:ets make a movie about MLK with Brad Pit in the lead role
Ler make a movie about Nelson Mandela, Paul bethany seem good for the role too
you see where Im going?
PEOPLE, PEOPLE – This has nothing to do with black or white, it has to do with money. Willow or her brother evidently cannot get an acting job on merit so rich rich rich daddy has to buy or produce movies for his children to do. He doesn't seem to have a problems getting movie deals being black because he is a talented actor.
@ Godabed. Bravo! So well said.
Maybe you will have an epiphany and remember how to turn off your caps lock and/or spell "Earth".
MAYBE YOU WILL HAVE TO STOP MAKING UP WORDS AND REALIZE I WAS MAKING A REFERENCE TO INDEPENANCE DAY
Is that a young black girl equivalent to a mullet on her head? Wow you'd think with the cash Mom and Dad have they'd get a decent style for their kid. Too bad she ended up looking like her Dad......
HATERS...... Please she is no different than any othe white Hollywood parent making a way for thier kids
Dear Idiots in Hollywood:
DNA does not equal talent
Willow Smith as Annie?! Really?!
Its like you idiots sit around all day and find ways to make us hate you more.
How exactly does "gay" fit in this story?
People like you suck.
Try not to direct your frustration at this child. She is still just a kid. How would you like someone talking about your child that way. The real problem is uberwealthy hollowood actors who are buying movies just to "star" their children. Seems a bit desperate to make a child a star. The Ultimate Stage Mom = Will Smith. We all better hope this movies is not a success. Think of the precedent it sets if people actually go see this...then EVERY Hollywood mom and dad will want to buy their child into the movies. Uugh! God forbid.
...and I hate them all equally for using undeserved privilege to help ruin the industry.
