A week after Kelly Preston and husband John Travolta shared photos of their new addition with the world, Preston is opening up on the more intimate details of baby Benjamin’s arrival.
In her first TV interview since his birth on November 23, Preston told the “Today” show how “wonderful” it is to bring “another child into the world and to look at things through his eyes. He’s so innocent and so sweet.”
The 48-year-old “Casino Jack” star also talked about how the public's support after Benjamin's birth has been healing for the family. Travolta and Preston, who also have a daughter, 10-year-old Ella Bleu, lost their son Jett at the age of 16 in 2009.
“It’s been wonderfully healing,” Preston told “Today.” “It’s been, I think, a really nice gift for a lot of people throughout the world. We’ve gotten the most beautiful letters and the most beautiful notes of happiness. And I think - just sort of a sigh of relief, a bit. And that's been really nice to sort of share that with people."
She and Travolta, 56, had been trying to have another child for years, and the couple considers Benjamin to be their miracle baby. "I didn't [consider the risks]. I just considered that it was difficult," she said. “We tried for quite a few years. Anytime you get pregnant at this age, it is a miracle.”
"Today's" Natalie Morales pointed out that Preston and Travolta, who are Scientologists, had discussed having a silent birth.
“Silent birth is basically just no words, as much as possible. If you need to moan, if you cry out, you know all of that, of course that’s normal,” Preston explained in response to Morales' question of what exactly a "silent birth" means.
“But just bringing them in as peaceful and gentle a way as possible because L. Ron Hubbard found the single source of aberration of psychosomatic illnesses – stress, fears, worry, things like that – have to do with the reactive mind. And in that part of the mind is different words and commands that can come back and affect you later in life.”
Preston also credits the practice for giving her kids such peaceful dispositions.
“I’m blessed…my kids have always been amazing,” she told “Today.” “Very calm, very peaceful, happy…and I absolutely know that it’s very much because of that.”

While reading your blog it seems that you research on this topic very much. I must tell you that your blog is very informative and it helps other also..
fact. scientologists are morons. end of fact.
I bet it's not even her baby. She probably wore a pregnancy suit. 48...the odds of her getting pregnant and carrying to term, not that high. I bet they'd deny getting genetic testing done if anyone asked. I don't care one way or the other, just sayin', I bet it's not hers, or at the least she didn't carry it. Take a test, just for the heck of it. Those who have nothing to hide, hide nothing.
This is interesting, post more often!
I never get enough info about celebrities!
It's actually not "nuts"...I know a number of chiropractors and alternative healing practioners, who are not Scientologists, say similiar things. We absorb everything from the very beginning...
I had a silent birth for my fourth.... he was premature, born by ceserean and he's the loudest of my 4 kids...lol
But reading all the comments, I don't understand why people judge other people because of their religion, orientation or wahtever.... Who cares! live and let live. They are happy, that's all that matters. They are living their life how they see fit, who cares what religion they are or how she gave birth or even if she gave birth, it's their life. If you don't like their way of life, don't live that way and that's it. No need to judge how they do it.
Have a nice day all :)
Newsflash: I have three peaceful kids and I screamed for drugs like a Banshee for each one of them! So her point is????
Does Kelly think most birthing rooms have open bar and disco music? Seriously, her asumptions are absurd. I mean is this baby suppose to make us forget about the book that was written, detailing her husbands infidelities? IThere has been story after story about John's gay affairs...does she think no one has heard of them? I don't care that John is a happy gay man...I just wish Hollywood would stop using innocent children to take our minds off the truth of Movie Star lives.
A silent birth to these two, and their scientologist handlers means, "Don't tell baby that daddy is gay. Not a word. Not a peep"
You can only belong if your wallet is fat! You can't just go in and sign up...and than you will have someone with you to oversee your spiritual growth...sounds like mind games....Be happy Kelly and John, but don't take it all sooooo serious, just enjoy the good life you have.
I love this blog
Much better than the last blog I read on celebrities!
I laughed really hard all the time during my pregnancy;you know, the gut-busting, full-belly kind of laughter. Deep and often. Maybe it was the additional hormones or the sheer delight of impending motherhood, who knows? But my son is now 19, and I can say he grew up extremely well-adjusted and with a fabulous sense of humor. Connected? Maybe, maybe not. The birth itself was a travesty: C-section, way too many other interventions during the nearly 24 hour experience. But I always secretly believed that my excess happiness during pregnancy totally affected his personality. :)
notice how it is men that come up with these ridiculous religions and how us women should act during childbirth???????
i've noticed that peaceful people usually have peaceful kids. silent birth or not.
I thought this silent birth sounded like a good idea as a matter of fact I'm trying to get my wife to take it take it another step further and give me a silent marriage
I do not know how these people get into these cults without googling them and learning the pro's and cons..
L ron was a pedophilic ass who couldnt
even set foot on USA'S soil because the feds wanted him
the mother ship is circling the globe waiting for L RON to return..and make cruise and them "gods.."
and btw momma j..study into what catholicism is and you'll be surprised..Constantine created the ROMAN CHURCH...BY making the pope in 300+ad a king of sorts...HE brought about the fall of most of the real christians by putting gnostic beliefs and mixing them with judiasm...
whenever man gets invvolved..GOD gets left out...
Jesus created and "built a House" of followers that will stand for Eternity and has no eartly leader..Because He leads us...AND ALWAYS WILL.
WE NEED NO EARTHLY KING.
silent births, no moaning. Ok, maybe my spelling was affected.
I had two silent birts.. ni moaning from me. First was an epidural, didn't feel a thing. Second, c-section because of (what's that called when they flip?) oh, breech birth. They're 12 and 10 now. Don't seem too affected either way from day one.
Scientology= crazy self-serving weirdo
Oh my goodness..... To you.and your family.... How wonderful. Always liked you and john..... Youre beautiful people.... And so deserving of a beautiful lttle bundle of joy!! Love it...... Holly in phoenix
God is good thank him or her for your gift
The Travoltas have birth once again. Let it be John Jr. the others must be happy 2. I don't like Tom Cruise or Kirstie Alley, but i cannot take their sweet comments away from them. john if u r readin' this, pretend that i did not say anything bad about your despisable pals. instead just hear me out. Congrats man!
google Operation Clambake
I am happy for both of them.Children are a gift.Notice I didn't say from"GOD".I believe in a creator and a higher power.Kevin Smith said it best."Religion was a good idea."He meant until peopleran off and created 50 different "relligions"instead of just believing.
@Girl Please. You are absolutly right!! I feel very blessed in my life and choose to give God all the glory for the good things and the bad. If someone eles wants to give the glory to their "God" then who am I to judge. I've been a huge John Travolta fan since Saturday Night Fever. He has graced the big screen with his talents and I am personally happy that he and Kelly have been blessed with Ben.
I personally am not with scientology, but am OFFENDED BY PEOPLE COMMENTING ON THE RIGHTNESS OF SOMEONE'S DECISION TO HAVE A CHILD, ESPECIALLY IF THEY AARE ABLE TO RAISE AND SUPPORT THEIR CHIDREN THEMSELVES
Wow....Scientology, based on the crazy writings of SCIENCE FICTION writer L.Ron Hubbard. There is absolutely no scientific data to back their "silent birth" claims. How can they be so gullible?
That's like saying "CARPENTER" Jesus Christ OR "MERCHANT" Muhammad....just an occupation. Tired of your bigotry.
I agree with you Sally. After reading all of the comments I have to admit that it made me sad. I choose to believe in God because that is my faith. I am not going to judge others and their faith.
Right on Jen! 99% of the peeps are a bunch of haters dissatisfied with life...why bother getting worked up over such personalities? If a philosophy makes you a better person AND greater contributor to society then more power to you! I would say this is better than having NO belief system and making NO difference in society.
According to a Science FICTION writer...... Sorry hun, ya lost me already.
Wow this story was sad and happy. But without getting into details I'm just happuy that they were able to have another child and that god blessed them with another child.
I wonder if all of the Scienology people worship the Starship Enterprise and believe that the Milky way is the white light they follow into their version of Heaven.
I patrol the internet for Scientology's Office of Special Affairs and I'd just like to say we're no worse than any other religion, just like some of my fellow agents have said. If we were worse than other religions we wouldn't be able to offer needy people the bonafide and highly workable technology we possess.
Of course it's a man who thinks a silent birth is a viable option. Maybe L. Ron should have had a bowling ball come out one of his youknowwhats...
Scientology is a cult. If you want to know more about it, google Operation Clambake and read all about it.
Check out Scientology: Inside the Cult on youtube
The best religion? One that's kept inside your head, where it belongs!
When you quote L. Ron Hubbard, you instantly lose all credibility, Kelly.
We need to define 'cult'. A cult is a group of people who have a belief system based on a man – or more to the point, a human being. A 'religion' is based on God – or whomever that group worships as 'god', although it may not be a human being. A cult is basically an intellectual (??) group searching for answers and believing they can find the answers through some belief system given them by another person. (Remember theJim Jones killing all his willing followers with kool aid?)
Christianity is NOT a cult. Scientology is. The people who follow Scientology are searching. We should pray that they discover 'where' they are searching will NOT provide them the answers they need.
Thank you Truth. Well spoken.
I don't know why people have to call her names. She has the right to have the type of birth she wants. You may not like it, but as long as she's not harming anyone, there is absolutely no reason to be calling her "nuts". That is just plain mean.
Anyone who believes anything L Ron Hubbard promoted is nuts. Sorry.
I just wish she had remained silent.
Women have had babies for centuries the regular way for centruries and many of grew up to be just fine. I guess Kelly is an expert on childbirth the same way Cruise is an expert on psychiatric drugs. Poor kids being raised by such space heads.
So, if my kids aren't happy then I need to blame the "Not Silent Birth". She is a nut case. I am so happy for her to have a baby at the age of 49..... But, she needs to remember that Autism doesn't show until later.
Scientology is just another religion that comes with its own package.
In this family a silent birth means, don't tell baby Daddy is gay.
She can obviously do whatever she wants, but how do these rich people come up with this stuff? Too much time on their hands.
OMG. It is their business how they handle the birth of their child. DO YOU WANT someone commenting on how you give / gave birth??
Leave them alone and be happy for them. HATERS!
I think Scientology is a dirty trash can full of poop, but I don't see anything wrong with a "silent birth". I'm not saying a child will be scarred for life if there was a lot of chatter in the deliver room. However, when I gave birth, I asked the nurses to please refrain from "cheerleading". I didn't want people shouting "Push! Push! Push!". I just wanted to concentrate on what was happening and hear a nice, quiet, "good job" every now and then. My husband's hand on my shoulder was all I wanted – I didn't let anyone else come in (except my older daughter when my youngest was born – because she asked). That's just my personal preference. Giving birth is hard and I wanted as little chaos as possible.
i ish she would have had a silent interview ,,,, what an idiot.... she attributes the calm demeaner to silent birth..... oh my...
Most of Clearwater, FL is owned by Scientology. That is where the headquarters is (I think).
You are correct. They own most if not all of down town. That is one of the reasons why I no longer live there. It is like walking among zombies.
Yes, that is their headquarters. But not to worry, they are being watched, 24/7. I am thinking maybe some of those agents should be watching the other homegrown "religious corporations" here in the USA.
Way to publish recruiting propaganda for Scientology. The last thing society needs is unsuspecting people pulled into cults or high-demand organizations because some celebrity used a peaceful-sounding birthing procedure.
If a journalist really wants to write about "Silent birth", how about the pro's and con's of the process. Even Wikipedia has that.
Let me get this straight – moaning and hollering because you're pooping something the size of a watermellon is natural and OK, BUT talking to John while the kid is busy trying to squeeze through an opening the size of a mayonaise jar will somehow make him a basket case someday? Hey, wait... I get it!! Bwahahahha!!!
Pfft...happy for them, but silent birth? WHATEVER!!
Scientology is nothing but proof that any religion is complete BS. Write a story about how the world was created, and people will read it and some will believe it. I don't hate them, but scientologists are just lab rats for discovering if religion is true or not. The answer's pretty clear.
But on the other side congrats to her and hope they live peacefully.
"Kelly Preston: Silent birth gave me peaceful kids"
I really don't want to speak ill of the dead and I know alot of people are affected by this, but she's crediting silent birth for giving her perfect children, but their son had autism and suffered from seizures. He in fact died from seizures. This is peaceful and perfect. Silent birth does nothing different. Just saying....L. Ron would have told them to get an E-meter because they need to get their son's Thetan checked out.
So they don't think that the fact that they are wealthy and can have 10 people to help them raise children might contribute to having peaceful children that never see stress or poverty? Why do actors speak without having someone else write their lines?
Really, these people are too much! As Walt Whitman said " out of the cradle, endlessly rocking". We are born in pain and joy and noise and everything else for a reason! Do they think that birth for them is so different? I would say that Abe Lincoln came screamin' and hollering at his birth in a crusty old Log Cabin. Just have the darn baby and stop all this nonsense of HOW you have the baby! It's natural– no matter how you do it!
Odd! Stupid MESS up whacked out beliefs! RL WERIDO ways.
Alternate headline: Self-absorbed, middle-aged nutcases welcome replacement child.
She "didn't consider the risk"? To whom?
I really have absolutley no real idea the in and outs of Scientology so I have nothing to say in that aspect. But i do have 3 children, all 3 natural births with NO TYPE of anesthesia or pain killers. You seriously have to be very mentally strong and prepared for such thing and I will say this much, for those like me who have had REAL natural child births "silence" is golden. If anyone was to be in the room with me speaking was strictly forbidden, I couldn't afford to have anyone take my concentration not only for a second. I always find it weird that people think its so out of this world to have silent births, then again how many women that you know have "real natural child births"?
motherof3 - exactly! I had natural (no pain killers) births for all but my first... and yes, it takes serious concentration. Anything that would distract me from focus on my body would make the pain worse... and I can see that an unpleasant environment would only interfere with the body doing what it needs to do. I am a Scientologist, but I would have chosen to birth this way at any rate, but then I took Dr. Bradley's childbirth advice in other respects as well. Quiet, calm birthing environment.
Me mother of 7 boys 24-15 and yes a set of twins... :)
These Scientologists that worship L Ron Hubbard are such MORONS!!!! THe guy was a science fiction writer, who molested little boys, and later admitted his whole "religion" was a made up fraud!!!! The guy si total joke, everything that Scientologists believe is beyond retarded. Seriously people, google scientology and read what they believe in, it's absolutely the most hysterical thing you will ever find
Oh for the love of all mankind, YOU DO NOT KNOW if your peaceful kids have anything to do with the fact that they were birthed in silence of the fact that these children are well nutured. Saying its because of their birth is LUDACRIS! I have a peaceful child as well, but was birthed while I was screaming, cursing and full of drugs. However, my idea of peaceful and your idea of peaceful are totally different. Above that any child can be peaceful when constantly entertained, nurtured, etc. How many nannies, helpers does one have when they are rich and famous? Your child could be perceived as peaceful too if they have a nanny, housekeeper, on staff educator as well!
The birth may have been silent, but the conception was loud.
A "silent birth"..............without the silence?
Only in Scientology.....
I'm going to treat the new parents as I would have them treat me and say congratulations on the birth of your clearly wanted and loved child and I'm so happy the birth went as you had hoped
More evidence that actors are empty-headed narcissists
The ignorance of these comments are astounding! "Scientology SOUNDS nuts..." You can't claim to know anything about the practice of Scientology after reading one article written on CNN. Before people pass judgment or falsely assume what Scientology is about, you should educate yourself as to what it really entails. I, myself, am not a scientologist, but took the time to visit the Scientology Mueseum in Hollywood in order to learn more about its practice. I recommend you all do the same instead of relying on what you're fed through the written media.
How long have you been in Scientology and what OT Level are you?
Their gestational partner had a silent birth? Did she get paid more for that?
Of course she did, she wasn't there. Plenty of rumors about a surrogate actually giving birth while Kelly "pretended" to be preggers.
Certified nut jobs...that's all I'm gonna say.
Is it me? On the one hand I am happy for them ... and on the other hand, it's seems almost warped and kind of sick, that they created a "replacement baby" after losing their 16 year old son ... and no doubt influenced by Scientology.
"L Ron Hubbard says..." This is the same L Ron Hubbard who beleived that true scientologists would be picked up by a spaceship and taken to a better place, right? As for the kids, peaceful maybe but healthy? They've already lost one to natural causes.
I practiced silent birth with all my children, and 6 of them were born without any pain medications. I made noise – asked for water, asked for a back rub, asked for what I needed, but mainly kept words to a minimum, and asked the doctors, nurses, and my husband to refrain from talking unless it was essential. It almost never was... Of course I made noise. Birthing is very hard work! But Scientologists simply refrain from speaking when people around them are in pain – as the words spoken during moments of pain and/or unconsciousness may have a post-hypnotic effect on the person. People are very suggestible at those moments! This isn't about silencing the mother – this is about reducing non-essential words around the mother and baby when they may be in pain. Dr. Bradley, childbirth expert who wrote "Husband-Coached Childbirth" also advocated keeping the birthing environment calm and quiet, and noted that animals will stop labor if the environment gets noisy, and go find a quiet place. It's natural.
@Scott-Are you an atheist or something? You're ingorance is laughable! Catholcism is NOT A CULT. It's the church Christ himself founded.
Ummm...no. Christ did not found a church. You need to go back and do some reading. While I'll agree that Catholicism is not a cult, to say that it most closely mimics Christ's teachings is laughable.
If Jesus Christ came back to the Earth today and saw what most so-called "christians" have done to his teachings he would cry many tears and then become a Unitarian or just give up altogether and join Habitat for Humanity, building houses, since he was a carpenter. He would definitely turn his back on 99.9% of the so-called people who use his name to make money, molest children, get elected, etc. He would never be starting a "church" or organized religion based on lies made up my men in the middle ages.
6ftdown-The only thing false here, is YOU!
@Chris-Please enlighten us Christian's, as to the "zombie" stories we believe in. This should be good!
Unsan-PLEASE don't insult me or my faith-my CATHOLIC faith! It's just plain rude!
@Anna-Christianity is NOT a cult. Never was, never will be!
NO, Clayon-all relgions are NOT cults!!!
I'm really happy for them, but Scientology has them completely brainwashed! It's such a shame!
I just don't get how a silent birth will make better kids. My kids are both wonderful, well-adjusted, calm kids. They were both born to me cussing and yelling (VERY long labors) and Jimmy Buffett music playing in the background. My son was sent to the NICU for a week, where it was very loud with all of the machines and alarms. He can sleep anywhere now. Nothing bothers that kid.
Too bad she can't be silent after the birth. Another child born to nimrods.
After eating 2 Taco Bell burritos and 3 slices of pizza, I too gave silent birth....to a brown stinky turd.
I named him Kanye West.
I cursed and yelled through both my labors/delivery- and my kids are happy.... hmmmmm........
FOR ME: A "silent" birth - would be tough (I've had three VERY paintful deliveries). Even less likely: A "silent" conception *grins*....
SERIOUSLY: They are blessed...the pain of losing a child must be unbearable...as the joy of having one is unmeasurable...I wish them well.
I had natural childbirths for both of my children. Not an ounce of pain killer, never even let them start an IV. I can't say the delivery room was quiet though. There was noise and it was all from me. I groaned as loudly as I needed to with each push. I mean reallly, if you can't be loud in the middle of labor, when can you?
I live by these words : "Live and let live". I also am of the opinion that any religion should be personal. How many people have been murdered in the name of organized religion ?
Who cares?! This is a headline?! Their baby is a gift for people throughout the world?! Come on! Oooo Kelly Preston had a silent birth. So what???
@Show Me. Here is your clue – most people who comment on the internet do not pay attention to people who can't spell three or four-letter words properly (i.e., "u" for "you", "ur" for "your"). It reads quite juvenile and texty.
The rest of you can also count me in for one who does not believe that Kelly Preston was actually pregnant.
The secrrets those Satanist I mean Scientologist have on JT is that him and Horseshack had an affairt
Ok, So after reading many posts – I am still confused. What is so great about a silent birth? A child can hear in utero, they grow and develop as people through the art of language- Many sounds are heard long before they arrive and it appears that sound is not the issue but rather "spoken word" b/c according to the scientology that spoken word can cause you to have bad memories in the future .. so what hapens if something really great is sad during a traumatic time does that affect you in a negative way as well?? and also , why is birth referred to as a traumatic time? ... If anyone has any more light to shed on this please do – this seems a bit off from a logical stand point .. hmmmmm
Marisol, the point to "silent birth" is to reduce words spoken during moments when the mother and baby may be in pain. Contractions are painful to both. I would speak between contractions during my labors (but not much), but have silence during the contractions especially. Scientologists ALSO refrain (as much as possible) from speaking when others around them are in pain. This is not always possible, especially if first aid has to be administered, but in general, if someone gets hurt, we are just silent for a moment until the INITIAL shock of pain is over. During pregnancy, if the mother gets hurt – say an older brother comes running around the corner and bangs into mommy's tummy – then there will be a moment of not speaking... for Scientologists, this becomes a pretty natural response.
The reason is explained in "Dianetics: The Modern Science of Mental Health" – and you can see a video at the Dianetics.org website about it. It's because words spoken during moments of pain and unconsciousness can go straight into the "reactive" (subconscious) mind and affect the person later in life. It's a preventive measure for us. This is NOT a criticism of how ANYONE else births. Simply an explanation of WHY Scientologist mothers often choose to birth in silence.
The silent birth thing is a Scientology thing. I know Katie Holmes/Tom Cruise talked about this with their kid. They are supposed to be as quiet as possible with no talking and extra noise. I also remember Tom Cruise and Katie Holmes saying the birth had to be completely natural with no pain killers and the like.
Celeste, I remember reading Tom Cruise particularly stating that Katie would have an epidural or whatever she wanted. There is no restriction on Scientologists about birthing. I didn't have pain killers with most of my births, but I did have it with one of them, per the advice of my doctor. (Regretted it afterwards, so the rest of the babies were born without pain medications.)
legitamate "religions" have God, by whatever name u call him as the center. scientology however, does not. If u look it up on the net, u will find the L Ron quoted saying that "if u want to get really rich today, invent ur own religion" and thats what he did. U should read about this cult & see what nut jobs they r 4 following it. They also segregate their rich folks from their poor members. like other cults they expect the poor to sign all their assets to them, and they have to go thru a brainwashing indoctrination!! Look at what happened to Jim Jones followers (over 900) who went to guyana and their murder of the congressman & his party who went check on them, followed by the poison koolaid murder suicide of the rest of them. Those who tried to leave were shot, even the little children. Yeah, some religion!
"hey uhh mr Kotter? Gimme drugs..."
The old days are surely gone.
I'm very glad they had a "silent birth", it would be the first time a Hubbahead (my tearm)shut the he** up
I'm sure she's silent about a lot of things.
You all have it wrong. PASTAFARIAN. It's the only way to go. As soon as the child draws its first breath we sing "On Top of Spaghetti" and christen it with a small dab of tomato sauce on the forehead. We all talk at once too. Does the kid good to hear some discourse among the burps.
What's really sad is that the idea of calm and silence at birth isn't a new one, and certainly isn't a Scientology practice. Leboyer advocated the concept long before LRon saw aliens. But now, instead of a woman looking at this and thinking "Hey, that does sound like a positive way to birth", they'll think "Ack! Scientology whackjobs!"
Scientologists are a bunch of crazies......that is the bottom line.
she did not have the baby, she wore a fake belly and had team of people to "help" her along............... she's a fraud.
i guess they are now silentologists also
You notice john is even starting to look like l ron!
I heard while she was giving birth, her husband was blowing the male nurse in the utility closet next door.
Yes, but he did so SILENTLY.
@Sean...no, I cannot prove them wrong but if you think the concept of extraterrestrial spirits being released when Xenu's DC-9's carrying them dropped them into volcanos that melted their frozen bodies releasing evil spirits is on the same footing as the concept of God, well, then I don't know that we can even converse. I do not claim "God did it!" for everything I can't explain. It is simply something I feel. I feel it within my family. And I feel that life and the universe isn't just some grand accident that science isn't yet capable of explaining but will one day. But it all depends on how you choose to look at things. I believe in evolution and the Big Bang and all of that. But when I ask a scientist to tell me what surrounded the Big Bang or what's on the outside of the universe now, they tell me to have faith that science will soon find the answer or that our minds will one day develop enough to comprehend the concept of no beginning or end. My faith simply lies elsewhere.
When I delivered my children – everyone in the delivery room was happy and encouraging. My husband and Mom were there and actually clapped their hands. My chiildren are happy & well adjusted. Maybe they knew how happy we were at their birth!
I wish the Travolta's all well. They have certainly had their share of pain. I hope they don"t raise this child by rules of Scientology. I hope they use conventional medical care. Maybe things would have been different with Jet had they done so. Again, all the best to them!
yesit'sme – Actually in Scientology people are allowed to leave the religion but once they leave those in it are not allowed to speak to or contact that person ever again. In other words they are excommunicated. The Amish have been practicing this for centuries.
Sean – you are not correct – previous scientologists are threatened if they leave and their money is not returned. Amish people do not commit acts of violence against a person who leaves their church – they kind of do the opposite – it's called shunning – they won't let them back into the church. I had to handle many cults in the 60's and 70's at the telephone company. They would instruct their minions to rack up calls against their own parents/family and the resulting bills would be sent to the fraud department. The parents would end up devastated because their adult child was basically stealing from them because they were told to do it and to cut off ties. I'm not familiar with every religion there is but I'm pretty sure mainstream religions don't instruct their minions to steal and to cut off ties so their money can be taken from the vulnerable adult child that's usually what is called a cult – having nothing to do with jesus or even spirituality.
In today's use of technology it is very easy to research these older cults and how they operate. I am not religious in any way nor do I practice any religion. I would be afraid if my children were to join any of these cults. Your average joe is not treated how they portray the celebrities being treated. They are treated very well by their cult in order for the cult to market themselves as mainstream. I later became a Marketing Director for another company.
What a crock!
Dirk Kennedy – I couldn't agree with you more. As I am sure most of these detractors are of the Christian based faith and really should read the bible and learn some tolerance. It's ridiculous for anyone to say its true or not especially when their own religion is unproven.
Maybe the baby got a peaceful birth, but he's going to spend the rest of his life being brainwashed by a cult that was founded by a science fiction writer.
Well, none of you have thought to question other nirth situations – I had a caesarian and there was no noise – some quiet talking – I had an epidural so I wasn't in any pain and it took about 5 minutes to open me up and take my son out – all without noise, talking, fear, etc – just peace and happiness. My son was an excellent baby – slept 6 hrs off the bat, never really cried even and was satiated easily with nursing. My point – at about 1 yr old he became the biggest rascal! Still not noisy but always taking risks – evn today at 27. Birth process has nothing to do with how they end up – it's absurdity. And even though I love John Travolta – he seems like such a kind man, scientology is a cult (has been for decades). The difference between a cult and a recognized religion is the "free choice" to be a practioner and leave when you want – scientology does not willingly let you leave.
Actually, that's not true. My ex hasn't been in a Scientology church for several years, and I talk to him regularly. Anyone can leave Scientology if they don't want to continue in it. There are a lot of rumors out there, and they can be exciting to read about, but that doesn't make them true. People want exciting stories about controversial things – so exaggerated and even completely false stories are cooked up - and people read them. It's human nature. We like conspiracy theories, controversies, and gossip! Websites will post whatever gets the traffic and thereby pulls in the advertising dollars!
After I read this article, I ran and kissed my parents.
Well, when I have my kid, I'll make sure to scream extra loud for you, Kelly.
SOME people are in denial. Right Zi? We know the truth!!!! Zizizizoooooooooooooooo
Not me! ziziziz! I will be over after work!
Well, I'm really pregnant and I have heartburn!!!! ARGHHHHH.
What time are you stopping by Ziboo?
Technically all religions are cults. I am just playing devil's advocate here, but seriously whats the difference between
The intergalactic warlord and his hydrogen bombs and body souls "thetans" and a man walking on water and a guy parting the red sea and a burning bush? All that stuff happened in a time when there was no internet or means of mass communication. If Jesus came to earth now what would people say? He's a freak and whomever joins him are in a cult.
So before you judge others religions, remember yours is equally impossible to prove. Its all based on Faith and hope.
As long as your religion is one of peace, go for it.
Yes, all religions are cults. The difference is that most of them come by their belief systems "organically," over time, and that most established religions are not so insanely anti-science. Even Catholicism, with its tragic, obstinate stance against birth control, can't hold a candle to Scientology, which was a religion invented purely for profit by a failed sci-fi writer, and which preaches against the entire profession of psychiatry while believing in e-meters and operating thetans and SPs and level 7 clear and a bunch of other preposterous stuff.
BTW, I am an ex-Catholic, FWIW.
I suppose not talking to your newborn after giving birth is probably the same as talking to it afterwards. I doubt if anyone hurls expletives at their newborn. In fact, the voices the newborn heard as a fetus become clearer, and mothers tend to "coo" to their newborns, which is instinctive. Most species in the animal world have "sounds" that they use for their young. I doubt if the child is someday going to say something like "By the way mom, thanks for the silent treatment when I was born. I really appreciated that."
“It’s been, I think, a really nice gift for a lot of people throughout the world." How obnoxious and self-absorbed.
Without any disrespect to anyone's else opinions on how should a parent behave at child's birth, I just want to say that I was jumping, singing, crying (out of avalanche of beautiful emotions), laughing out loud and screaming with my wife during every single of our four childbirths – all in glorious celebration of new lives we were blessed to create!
I wish Travolta's all the best, for them and their family.
They are a beautiful and blessed family and I have never heard either say a nasty word about anyone regardless of what their beliefs may be.
When are these people going to stop the charade. We know your "marriage" is a front. And we know that you didn't actually birth the baby, Kelly. We know you're gay John. It's so sad that people have to go to such great lengths to hide being gay. WHO BLOODY CARES.
We do know the truth. I don't care who he enjoys to bone (asians) or if he is a bottom or top (bottom) or if he wears a whig or sprays his hair on (both) – i just don't want to be sold a bunch of crap. People Mag is BS. It is all PR and Beards anymore. zi, it is you and me against the world!!!!!!!!
Its great they had a baby and a healing time for the family but the founder of scientology ,Hubbert, was a science fiction author before he formed the cult- even saying that the fastest way to get money was to start a religion. scientology teaches that aliens placed spirits in the ground a long time ago and these spirits effect people today somehow. the interest in aliens and the denial of a Creator is a growing trend today and they are trying to suck people into their deceptive cult. im surprised cruise or travolta seem half sane even though steeped into lies of the devil.
Ah, dave it doesn't take the devil in order to dupe people out of their money!
Kelly, we all know you faked your pregnancy because your husband's gay and you had a surrogate. Stop pretending.
I gave a very silent peaceful birth to both of my children. It's called an epidural.
Goofy. And worse than that, the Scientology "religion" is blatantly anti-feminist. L. Ron Hubbard himself made some obvious quotes that support that.
L. Ron Hubbard wrote the following passages in his 1965 book Scientology: A New Slant on Life:
"A society in which women are taught anything but the management of a family, the care of men, and the creation of the future generation is a society which is on its way out."
"The historian can peg the point where a society begins its sharpest decline at the instant when women begin to take part, on an equal footing with men, in political and business affairs, since this means that the men are decadent and the women are no longer women. This is not a sermon on the role or position of women; it is a statement of bald and basic fact."
What a cuck-o-doo!!!
They keep this topic in the news to keep up the story that she actually had the baby! Nobody else continuousy talks about this kind of stuff, it's personal. Wake up people it was a surrogate who had this baby! Congrats on the baby, really everyone is happy, but no need to keep up the lies about how it got here.
Andy – I am just making a point. Just because there is no answer to questions doesn't mean that a higher power had something to do with its creation. For centuries people didn't know why the sun rose so it must have been a god doing it. Just because it took hundreds of years to be explained doesn't mean that some "supreme" being had anything to do with it. People all the time try to use religion to reason out things just because they don't know the answer. If someone believes that aliens are a higher power how does that make them wrong. Can you prove they are wrong? What about the example of the "Flying Spagehetti Monster" http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flying_Spaghetti_Monster
Having had 3 Sons...all birthed by the LeBoye "Birth Without Violence" method, I can attest to how much the method can improve the disposition and well being of a Child. Well....at least until they reach puberty!
My first Son's birth in 1978 was a real event for the Nursing Staff in the Hospital in Indy. Between the drastically reduced lighting, and our playing softly a recording of the Mother's heartbeat (...the ONLY sound in the room, BTW...), when the Boy "exited" and was laid on his mother's stomach with the Cord still intact, the peacefulness in his expression went so far ahead of what anyone expected, most everyone...the attending Physician included....had tears spring up immediately. Not a peep from the baby either, just measured breathing. Then, after I cut the Cord and was allowed to immerse the Boy in a 98.6 degree water bath for cleaning, his eyes flew open....and he smiled. Not a wrinkly scowl to be seen! Afterward, he was placed in a Insulated "Bubble Bag" and placed with his Mom and Boy did he tackle that Breast!
To be blessed by being able to see that happen 3 times is something I could not adequately express in a 20,000 word thesis. That would seem to be the real intent behind the published story , not something intended to perpetuate all the rancorous discourse that followed. I'm no advocate of Scientology, but as far as anyone using such gentle birthing methods for the welfare of the child, I'd state that the hearts behind that decision show something to be both admired...and envious of.
I don't believe in scientology but I don't necessary see a silent birth as a bad thing. What's wrong with you people? They aren't hurting you and frankly despite believing in something we don't how do they seem crazy? Some people think believe a guy rose from the dead is crazy. Some people think believing a virgin gave birth is crazy. Some people think believe in any higher power is crazy.
Anybody else think we should send someone in undercover for 3 months or so and see exactly what scientology (I purposely did not capitalize ) is all about? I would watch that reality show. It's like a fraternity or sorority in college, you pay for friends and a higher purpose. Just because some of them are crazy doesn't make all of them crazy. There are crazies in every religion, belief, or faith. Any thoughts?
WOW...His hair is *totally* dyed.
Funny..they don't mention Scientology...the whoole reason behind her "no words" birth.
That poor kid is going to be raised by a couple of nutjobs. I saw an interview with Kelly, she's crazy.
Congrats to John and Kelly. And unless u know anything about Scientology, u should zip ur gob up and not say anything. Everybody has a right to choose their own beliefs. Let them be.
I can't imagine that hearing the loving voices of your parents as you're being born could be considered "traumatic" to a newborn. Yet hearing only "moaning" or "screaming out" is a GOOD thing???
"I'd like to start a religion. That's where the money is." – L. Ron Hubbard to Lloyd Eshbach, in 1949; quoted by Eshbach in OVER MY SHOULDER: REFLECTIONS ON A SCIENCE FICTION ERA, Donald M. Grant Publisher. 1983
Belinda....marry me!!! You're absolutely the smartest woman on Earth. You've hit the nail on the head! It's all about the money. And Hubbard was a mediocre author at best.
I was watching E.R. during labor - I'll be sure and give credit to George Clooney if he grows up to be a doctor (which I'm sure he will since I was watching E.R instead of laying there in silence) hehehe...
my friend was there. she said just before the birth, kelly let out a huge nasty wet fart that stunk up the whole room
@Rob..When you say "Christians" did this and that, you are taking what a small percentage of bad and/or misguided people have done and applied it to all Christians. That hardly seems fair or practical for that matter as all groups have their share of nutcases...especially ones with a very long history. You could debate for hours and hours if you want to bring up every instance of wrong being committed. I can committ any atrocity I want in the name of "Rob" but that does't make Rob a bad person. What we are or should be talking about is the core message of the groups. The core message of Scientology says that all bad is the result of evil alien spirits having possessed our human bodies. Of course, these humans can only be "cleared" by Scientologists, for a small fee that gets larger and larger the more "levels" you go through. Go into any Catholic church and sit down for mass. You don't have to belong there and you don't have to pay a thing. They'll pass around a collection basket but there is no pressure to put anything in it and whatever you do put in it is anonymous. See the difference?
I can't believe people are bad mouthing Scientology so much. Speaking as someone who grew up Catholic and now is an Atheist. How can anyone from any religion pass judgment on another religion. All religions whether new or old require faith. When you get deep down to it they all make ZERO sense. To believe in words written by men and supposedly the word of god is completely insane. I for one am happy for them after all they went through. After Jesus Christ taught acceptance rather than ridicule of those different than ourselves. How about we practice what we preach.
@Sean...it makes zero sense to you. Just as atheists make zero sense to me. At least agnostics admit they don't know. But atheists, who can't use science to explain the creation of the universe, arogantly state they know for a fact there is no God and those who believe are delusional. So in other words, you're right and everyone else is wrong. Hmm, doesn't that sound a lot like some religious zealots?
Scientology is called a religion for tax purposes only. Nothing else about it is "religious."
The Travoltas are so out of touch with what common people do because of their celebrity and religion. So much so that I cant watch a movie with John Travolta anymore, except for Saturday Night Fever. Im not saying he's a bad person, but he has a creep factor 10.
Aw c'mon, they can't even watch Pulp Fiction?
After all is any of this any of our business? What if a bunch of people commenting on what you've done and said for the last nine months?
It's out business because they WANT IT TO BE OUR BUSINESS that's why its front page news on CNN you MORON. YOU ARE A MORON. YOU ARE A MORON. YOU TRIED TO TAKE THE HIGH ROAD AND CAME ACROSS AS A MORON.
Hmm, I don't think Amused is the one coming across as a moron here.
Must be the aliens that helped her birth....too bad they are against medication which would have saved their son Jet. Ahhh hello, God, Xenu...Voltron whoever gave us a brain to better our lives. Why are you against medication? You dont mind taking advantage of other newer technologies i.e. cars, planes, etc. Why would you be against medicine? WACKOS......Lets go Voltron force.
Kelly certainly believed in medications when it helped her with her planned C-section. She can help herself, but not her son.
I'm really confused as to what is "silent" about it.... They say moaning and crying are okay, it's just everything else. What they heck do they think is going on in other, non-silent births? Do they think we have a circus taking place in the room? Or a ball game is on the TV? The only "noise" that went on while I gave birth was the doctor giving a few instructions... but she didn't scream it. Maybe in "silent" births, the doc uses sign-language???
Silent birth...OK....? I vented through the pain of two births and both children of mine are just fine. It's how you raise them, with lavish love and the right kind of attention, that invites them to thrive. I guess the Ravolta's go from 'silent birth' to a 'bubble world' to keep them peaceful? Dunno....sounds like a cult to me.
Those two are so goofy, they believe in the craziest most ridiculous stuff..
Once again a hollywood couple has forcefully shown us all the proper way to go about life through their unlimited access to media broadcast !!
When i finally have a kid the mother is getting a ball-gag and ill have a tiny one waitin for the baby when it pops out.
Thank you Travolting!
From what I know, all religions have problems and many of them stem from people claiming to have access to knowledge others cannot. When it comes to Scientology you pay for access to knowledge, which in turn makes you a higher level Scientologist. The problem with saying don't accuse them until you understand them is we cannot understand them because nothing is given without strings attached. Scientology structures itself in a way that does not allow their teachings to be shared. The very few strange things we do know about Scientology have come from leaks and people who have left and had the courage to share. Each and every one of these people has been pursued and in some cases harmed. This is why Scientology has thousands of lawsuits pending against anyone and everyone who says anything about them.
Now this is one of the more humorous items I've heard in a while. Silent birth. The silence creates healthier babies. Hey L Ron, wanna show me the scientific research behind this claim? No, don't preach to me, show me the facts. You can't because it's not reality. I hear if you shove granola up a kids nose they'll become peace activist.
I am happy for their new arrival. I disagree that silent birth is what helps keep a stressfree life. Both of my children were wonderful stressfree babies, had regular delivers, slept well, ate well, well adjusted from day one. No colic, nightmare, issues in school....very well adjusted kids. I am sure everyone has their own opinions, and if it works for them that is what the sole important thing is. I can't judge them, and they can't judge me,
So does this mean I've scarred my son for life? He came fast and furious, so there was a lot going on when he entered this world. It was hardly silent in the room. Besides, I would think a mother moaning, screaming, etc would startle an infant far more than hearing doctors/nurses doing their business and talking.
On another note, I'm happy they were able to have a healthy child. It really is a miracle for them and I wish them the best.
I agree with you. And the other thing, they have proven that a unborn child can hear when they are in the womb, that when born the recognize mom and dad's voice.....imagine if they felt that they had to have a "silent pregnancy"
you don't have to have a silent birth to have children with good dispositions
What is the baby's thetin level?
It's over 9000! praise Xenu!
What a bunch of horse crap! She's nuts. Because L. Ron Hubbard says so? I'm sorry, but if L. Ron Hubbard said that they all should jump off a bridge, would they all do it?
I gave silent birth this morning to a logger.
Gosh! Sceintology, i mean really, how can anyone get suckered into such a creepy religion?!
For my first child, I was in labor for over 20 hours. I don't think being silent for that long is good for anyone. My doctor talked with me a lot of the time, and we were making jokes about how long it was going to take and anesthesia or not.
Peaceful children are robots. Spirited children are a gift. I hope at least she tries to be quiet with her kids now, they need peace and no yelling more when they are older.
Ricky Gervais said it all...the most elaborate, transparent "beard" positioning in history (next to Cruise's pretense of course)...congrats, John!...now it's back to the male bath houses!
Happy for them! Couldn't imagine wanting to start all over again at that age tho! "silent birth"...since when was giving birth a loud experience? Do they have marching bands in the delivery room now??? Amazing experience, thank God, but Im pretty sure you're in too much pain to be the loud, lively party girl in the DR! LOL!
Tom C. and John T. are gay.
Kelly Preston was never pregnant, probably bought the baby from one of their crazy Scientology friends.
If Scientology is so great, how come they don't have a great weight loss plan for Scientology devotee Kirstie Ally to follow.
I mean really???? Some people just have a mean mouth.... Seems as tho they (preston/travolta/cruise) are a lot more successful and prosperous than most of the rest of us! huh?
I'm going to start worshipping at the religion of Isaac Asimov... You know Asimolovy... (He was a much better sci-fi author than L.Ron Hubbard was...)...
lol, my oldest son has a wonderful peaceful disposition, and when he was born, all wrinkly and slimy, I remember blurting out, "he's ugly". Afterwards though, the first thing I did was whisper in his ear that Yaweh is God, and offered his life up to God, to do his will. I've done that to all my kids, and all have their own personalities, and I love all of them, for being different.
I am not questioning her religion or how she gave birth but her statement of seeing the world through is eyes is what is strange how can she see through the child's eyes unles she is saying tha she is his inner spirit or he is her inner spirit., this is where the questions of how our beliefs affect us.
The Mother Ship will be coming for The Child soon. He will be the heir to the throne of the Marcabian Confederacy. All hail, Xenu. I have spoken.
How does she know that the kid will be peaceful? Wasn't he just born? What sick people they are.
Sorry, but if the "silent birth" brings such peaceful, happy kids into the world, why did their son Jett have such a lifelong tortured existence? His life was short and filled with pain - they searched for answers but could never resolve (according to a recent interview with Kelly Preston). All their money, fame & religious cult could not help him. Now they have a baby late in life like it's a toy to play with.
Is it just me, or is John Travolta starting to look like Herman Munster.....just sayin'
Another headline for this story: Kelly Preston Has a "Gay Husband"
...and your point is?
Of course you can have a silent birth when it's a c-section. I'm sure the stroy headline would have been a little different the old fashioned way.
And Mel Gibson is a Christian. I'm not a Scientologist, I'm Christian, but come on, Christians were executing scientists for centuries, and killing people, purposely and accidentally, who they believed to be possessed by demons... There are Christians today who dance with rattlesnakes while drinking poison, Christians who stock pile weapons to fight the US government because they claim it's the antichrist... As far as historical precedent goes, no religious group comes close to the disgusting acts of violence, committed by Christians in the name of God, for the last 2000 years, entire civilizations wiped out, in the middle east, Europe, South America, North America, all in the name of God, be it by Christians, Muslims, Jews (yes their hands are bloody as well)... Hey, it wasn't Scientologist's who invented snipping off parts of a baby boy's penis! Scientologist's don't have the market cornered when it comes to crazy celebrities, crazy beliefs, crazy practices, committing disgusting acts (nothing remotely close to those committed by Abrahamic religions)... The Catholic church is actively protecting priests who molest little kids, but Catholic's have the moral authority to call Scientologist's crackpots?
@ Rob, sitting here reading all this judgmental, condescending, moral high road crap condemming something most probably know little about trying to formulate a response. YOU DID... and you did an excellent job, Rob!!! Thank you, I stand on your side of the room.
Well said Rob.
Thank you so much, Rob...
How refreshing to actually have a poster who takes a wider, truthful view of our situation here on Planet Earth. I am by no means part of any Scientologist dogma or belief set, but as a religious, spiritual truth-seeker, I am heartened to see that at least one person here rejects the ignorance and prejudice that so many of the posters seem to embrace without thought of looking beyond their fears and hatred.
BTW- How interesting that the 'fear-folks' don't have the cajones (or the facts) to be able to reply back to your posting.
All my best to you, to ALL folks of faith and love, and indeed to all on this diverse planet: May we learn to come together and celebrate!
Thank you, Rob, for adding a level of clarity and lucidity to an otherwise baffling thread. Whether or not the parents are Scientologists is not really the point – the baby is still a miracle regardless. Have any of you seen pictures of him? – he is a beautiful, happy, healthy baby boy and instead of vilifying this couple for their religious beliefs, we should be congratulating them on their new arrival. Also, FYI to the person complaining about the planned C-section – likely the planning was done by Ms. Preston's physician, not her on her own, and likely not because of her celebrity but more to do with her age. Finally, these are parents who have spent the better part of the past two years trying to come to terms with the death of their first child, trying to heal, and trying to rebuild. Can't we just be happy for them?
Exactly, thank you! This moral relativism and "two wrongs make a right" allows us to continue making money in our business, whoops, I mean helping people with our workable technology.
Why do many of you knock Scientology ? Half of us don;t really understand it, yet we condemn it. It works for the Travoltas, so let it be. I for one, an thrilled to death for them. They're happy are YOU ?
Celebs are happy inside because they use the money of the regular people inside as a party fund. Regular Joes are pressured to give and give and give. If an average Joe tries to leave they are harassed and some have even been kidnapped. Google Marc Headley. He wrote a book about having to fight his way out of that cult.
Nick, trust me, I've read a great deal about Scientology, you should, too! It's a cult, and it's crazy. After you've done some research, I'm sure you'll agree. And it's not harmless, it's discriminatory in almost every way.
Not a healthy logic....
David Koresh's followers believed they were doing the right thing-and child molestations were occurring.
Westboro Baptist Church people are wackier than bed bugs and make millions off of suing the real 'victims' for infringing upon their rights.
Hubbard was an author of some crazy books===and I really feel sad for his followers to be so blinded AND brainwashed.
You should read what Priscilla Presley had done to Lisa Marie when she was greiving for her father....and now Lisa marie is so brainwashed that she is back into the fold....after complaining about how they abused her as a child.
It is only okay if they aren't abusing innocent lives. If they are, it is a requirement that people speak out about it until it stops.
Another article reported she had a planned c-section. Pretty easy to not have to scream when you don't feel anything.
Every media outlet seems to put that small insignificant fact at the end of their reports. I agree she had an epidural!!! Of course she would have no need to scream. The most she'll do is shake like a leaf and tears run down her face. Sure the doctors can be quiet they're too busy trying to get the baby out anyway. They make like she did such a noble thing when all she did was have a c-section in quiet. Big whoop!!!
Scientology was created by one (mortal) man, wow having all these people follow his/Hubbards commands must give him a big head.
Well, he is dead, so I kind of doubt it.
Actually more like $300 million dollars, tax-free and smuggled out of this country into Swiss bank accounts.
Having a baby at 48? That means she will be about 72 when the child gets it's Bachelors. The world is becoming seriously overpopulated, why can't these people adopt? People should be limiting family size to only two anyway, only one child would be even better.
There are so many needy orphans and there is something so arrogant in insisting a child has to come from your own genes after you have aklready had one or two. People that are abusing the evironment with the locust mentality like the Duggars and Octumom are going to find that not very far in the future others are going to take them and people like them to task about it.
Oh please don't put Octomom and the Duggars in the same catagory! The Duggars at least can support and care for their family without asking for handouts. However, as a mother of four (one of which is adopted) I can add that adoption is a wonderful, joyful way to enlarge your family. It is entirely possible and not at all difficult to love an adopted child just as much as one you have given birth to, and I will also add that the silent birth sounds wacky to me. I think I would be a little intimidated by the idea of little or no communication between the nurse/doctor/myself.
Just curious but since when do scientologist believe in miracles? Isnt there so-called religion based on other factors other then unexplained miracles? Tom Cruise can you help us out here.
Please, they say in the People interview that she had a C-section. Any woman could have a silent birth if she's given anesthesia and feels nothing below the waist. Of course it's a peaceful birth- the mother and baby are both drugged into a stupor. I have nothing against women who have C-sections, but I do take issue with these two claiming superiority with doublespeak and half-truths.
Right on Anne!!!! LOL
Agreed! Although I would like to clarify on the C-section issue. I had one and was shaking like a leaf, on the verge of a panic attack, and talking my husband's ear off. My son is a happy, joyful, and as calm as you can expect a one year old to be. I made plenty of noise through 26 hours of labor, why be silent during my 2 hour surgery? Makes no sense to me.
Aside from the Scientology Ideology silent birth sounds great. All the cheering in the hospital; "Push, push, harder, harder" and the exciting over the top cries, doors slamming etc cannot be good for a baby who was used to muffled sounds for most of its life in utero.
I think a calm, quiet birth environment is the kindest way to welcome a baby. This doesn't mean a birthing mother cannot express her discomfort. Take this from a professional.
I don't understand where you (or whoever it is you know) is giving birth. I did not have a "silent" birth, but there was only one nurse helping me push and she wasn't saying "push, push, harder, harder" over and over. She supported me but didn't overwhelm me. No one slammed any doors (that was actually impossible as they have slow closing dampers on them.) So I don't get it, are some people giving birth in a high school gymnasium during a pep rally? I have three kids and all of them are pretty laid back and happy kids.
People are so harsh these days I was born with a silent birth, and have pretty much marched down L Ron Hubbards footsteps
So you live on a boat and are waited on by teenage girls while protected by your stormtroopers?
Put any snakes in anyone's mailbox lately? Just asking.....
The Church of the Process put snakes in mailboxes, not Scientology, they killed a judge's dog instead. It's sort of creepy that people from the same organization in Scientology that did that, the OSA, are probably commenting here to "handle" this article.
Jeeez she sounds totally brainwashed. L Ron Hubbard was a freakin science fiction author, not an obstetrician.
Thank Xenu for the silent birth!
L Ron Hubbard was a bedbug who had no formal college education and wrote SCIENCE FICTION books. He was a drop-out and loser and yet managed to make millions and millions of dollars with his "religon". Only in America folks.
I dunno, it worked out pretty well in Rome too.
I think it's stupid!! do you think the baby had a SILENT time in the womb?????? the baby has heard noises for nine months what's a " silent birth" going to change as he's being born???? was he not allowed to cry??? dumb dumbs!!
Right on!! But I am pretty sure they do not have the ability to follow logic.
It justs strikes me as selfish to conceive and bear a child this late in life to a couple whose age more aproximates grandparents. Kelly will be 66 when her youngest is 18. Only the super wealthy can make these choices without horrendous repercussions in the long run.
It's not silent to me if I have to hear her drone on and on about it!
We need Wikileaks to do something useful, break into Scientology, and leak everything related to John Travolta. Then we say "Hey Travolta, we released your dirty secrets for you, so now it's time for YOU to blow. Blow now! They have nothing to blackmail you with because there's nothing left!"
Try watching that Scientologist move Travolta made a few years back. If you can manage more that 5 minutes, you're better than most.
Apparemtly they still have not bothered to check L Rons credentials.
The peaceful, happy child with a good disposition because of a silent birth or any form of birth is crap, Our brains are wired based on the genes that are passed down to us by our parents. If there are genetic issues in the family such as anxiety, depression, psychosis, etc. they will be passed on. We currently don't have the technology to change it. The type of people who claim that they can create a miracle child that is perfect need serious help and a serious reality check.
Bang on Melissa!
It's not as black as white as you make it seem. Hundreds of studies have shown that in addition to the biological component, there is also the social component. It's the combination of the two that would then trigger depression, anxiety and even psychosis (look up studies involving schizopherenia on identical twins. Though they have the exact same DNA, schizophrenia doesn't always manifest itself on both twins). Therefore, does the environment around you play a major part on emotional disorders? Absolutely. If it were purely biological, therapy would do no good, and only medication would solve the issue. Having said that, however, I don't believe that talking whilst giving birth traumatizes a child!!!! It's a series of actually meaningful events during an extended period of time that would actually lead a child to develop any traumas later in life!
Reminds me of Nazi-era eugenics projects.
Then again, L. Ron was a terrorist, a convicted one at that... and spent the last years of his life in isolation, hiding away with his inner circle... sounds like Hitler.
They are a bunch of terrorists that have nothing better to do that demonize an entire group of people in Psychologists. They would have you believe that they are all immoral humans seeking nothing but power and domination. Like somehow every person that goes into this field from medical school has a secret plan for world domination. Pathetic, crazy bunch.
Is that your professional opinion, Herr Doctor?
I can't fathom Scientology, but psychology is total bull$##t.
Oh, and FYI – psychologists are NOT medical doctors. They are PhDs, with no medical training (unless they took the CPR course at the "Y").
These folks are even crazier than the Mormons, didn't think that was possible.
You've never heard of the Raelian Movement, have you? They make Scientologists look like Rhodes Scholars.
Look at the billions of parents who gave birth to children without ever hearing about Scientology and/or "silent birth". It sickens me that intelligent people like the Travolta's actually buy L Ron Hubbard's complete BS and can't see him for what he really his.
A Bad Novelist.
Intelligent? Now that's a stretch...
What makes you think that they are intelligent?
dead.. that's what he really is.
There's a very strong rumor that a surrogate had the baby and Preston wore a fake stomach for months.
Not kidding. Google it.
Wouldn't surprise me one bit. LOL!!! Her face didn't change much while her stomach grew.
Conspiracy theories aside, she was pregnant, not getting fat. Unless she was retaining water, her features would not necessarily change (especially at her age, what with all the Botox, and all).
Just like any other religion, a bit insane. However if it helps you live a better life and you are good people, why should I care what you believe, to each their own.
That's the sanest thing I've heard in a long time Mike.
Can't, can you?
Integral, that's exactly the point. YOU can't define 'good' and 'better' for someone else. only they can. and I'm not even defending the cult that is Scientology. I do think it's paranoid that some want to bash this so-called silent birth – sounding perfectly harmless and pleasant, either because they didn't do it or because of the ill association here with the Scientology brainwashing. Scientology is a good poster child for the distractions of religion. the best ideas for well-being can be found right in psychology and healthy psyches.
Mike, for the past 10 minutes or so I've been reading all comments on here concerning some nonsense silent birth and all the mum-jumbo attached in the story you're the only person who've ever spoken well. And I respect you for that. Whether this religion is a cult and that one is not, whether science is right and theology is just a pice of crap, etc., it is only wise for one to focus on what he believes and stop judging others of what they should or shouldn't believe. I am a Christian, and in my religion our God forbids us to judge others. I don't care what your religion teaches You to do just be you and let me be me. If you went into a book store and ran into my religion book and is interested in it and would like to purchase it because you want to know more about my religion, that's fine with me. But don't go telling the whole world how yours is better than mine because you think you know more about my religion. Listen, the keyword here guys is YOU THINK YOU KNOW, but the truth is you really don't know a thing about my religion so stop spreading lies around about what you don't know.
Congratulations Kelly & John! We did a similar Scientology birth for our first, and any day now are expecting our second. Definitely makes things so much easier to have a birth without the noise and chatter that can sometimes be a part of one - and just let the mother focus on what she's go to do.
Absolute rubbish. Scientology kills and destroys families.
WHAT ARE YOUR CRIMES?!?!?!?!
Scientology needs to be recognized for what it is.
A cult designed to suck people dry of their money. L Ron Hubbard's people, including his wife were sent to prison for infiltrating the US Government, and L Ron Hubbard fled to avoid gong to jail for robbing millions for the "church".
These clowns who say "all religions are cults" are complete morons. You know nothing. I'm a catholic. I do what i want, and no one follows me around or harasses me, or asks me what my crimes are or "audits" me.
And one more clown who says "there is no god" STFU – because science can't provve a damn thing. It can't prove how the universe started. Uh, big bang/expansion = epic fail. You can't explain how or why or what was there before, or why there is even space and not nothing whatsoever. Why is there anything? You can't even fathom that concept. SO don't preach to people. Believe what you want to believe but don't try and talk down to people you college educated average IQ slackjaws.
Seriously??? Catholicism is the biggest cult going. Buy any indulgences lately?
Kid Duke, congratulations for not being a Scientologist, but there are a few similarities between your religion and theirs. You don't have "audits," but you do have "confession." No one is following you around, but "God sees everything you do." And if you don't believe Catholicism is a type of cult, try this: Instead of participating in the "call and response" portion of Mass, just watch and listen. Or think about the act of communion: drink blood and eat flesh in order to become closer to the Messiah.
Also, claiming that science can't explain Creation to your liking is no justification for such beliefs. In opposition of a "Big Bang" theory, you instead subscribe to the "Big Snap of the Fingers" theory. Science theorizes that, as the Universe is expanding, there must have been a time when everything was very, very close together. They could be wrong, and if contrary evidence presents itself, they can change their theories, and change their minds.
Can you change your mind about any of your beliefs? Can you decide that the Pope isn't as infallible as the Church teaches? No? Sounds like a cult to me.
The Kid Duke –
That was preaching your thoughts on other people. How is that any different from a science-minded individual who thinks you are living a fairy tale stating their beliefs? And if you think the Big Bang Theory is an epic fail, how about all those ridiculous stories you have been brainwashed with the Bible? Stop being so hypocritcal. Believe what you want, because you are free to do so; but dont expect everyone to agree with you.
And way to go with the name calling, that's really showing your high IQ.
Kid Duke, "you college educated..." hahaha. epic fail yourself. too bad you can't hear how similarly nutty you come off and how preachy you are. typical "christian." those of us who don't need to make up stories about our existence to feel better, also have no need to go around preaching. you nutties get that all to yourself.
I like your reply to The Kid Duke, Kelly. People in glass houses should not throw stones. Religious organizations all have their own scams. Christians believe Adam and Eve began the entire world all by themselves. So, after they had their kids... who started the next generation? Could only be by incestual relations. Hmmm. Not a theory I wish to support and believe in!!!
Haha......I love reading comments when people start arguing about religion.......take that The Kid Duke! If you want religion explained just watch Family Guy!!
I don't believe in that crap about silent birth and I have a very happy child with a very good disposition. Everyone always comments of what a happy child he truly is.
They are there so called religion are crazy....they should be having grandkids at this age not babies.
Travolta and Cruise and co. can never leave because they have to confess everything they ever did to the Church. They are free to leave, and the Church of Scientology will just throw out their records in the TMZ dumpster. Of course, Scientology is also no more fanciful than other religions with world wide floods and rising from the dead etc.
Everyone knows that Tom Cruise and John Travolta are as gay as the day is long. They can't come out in hollywood. Maybe Scientology has that against them, or maybe they're just stupid and they actually believe in this crap.
Scientology. When acting stupid isn't stupid enough.
Scientology – when you have nothing better to do with your time.
Although I am not a supporter of scientology, I do believe that silent birth is a great way to immediately bond mother and child. What a precious and gentle gift to bring peace to the ears of a newborn in those first few minutes of life. I hope this will bring healing to their hearts.
I bonded pretty strongly with my daughter without a "silent birth" – never heard of such ridiculous mickey mouse crap!
Soooooo.....moaning, yelling and shrieking is okay, but talking during the birth would be traumatic and lead to a disconnect between mother and child. Gotcha!
Well put, Thomas. Considering Preston's age, when I saw the "silent birth" headline, I assumed it was a scientology term for having a stillborn.
This idea is crazy. If they think the kid can understand them while in utero, why not a silent 3rd trimester?
I never heard of such crap either. I was definitely not silent giving birth and wasn't going to be for anyone. Bonded just fine with my daughters.
Gah! I'm so sad that birthing peacefully and calmly will now be associated with this Scientology craziness!! There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with wanting to give birth to your baby in a quiet, calm, peaceful way! Asking the nurses/doctors/midwives to accomodate that is not a wacky notion. If you go on You Tube you can see COUNTLESS videos of these amazing births where the moms are essentially giving birth without excrutiating pain and screaming, and those around them maintain a calm environment. And the babies are also entering the world without screaming/crying themselves. This is nothing against those moms who need to yell during birth – i have no judgement for you. But there should also be no judgement of those of us who want to give birth calmly and peacefully on our own terms. My first child came in under 3 hours and I ended up giving birth in triage surrounded by a bunch of triage nurses screaming like chickens with their heads cut off. I just wanted a dark, calm, peaceful surrounding and I couldn't have that. I only hope that I get to the hospital soon enough with my current pregnancy to get through the triage and get to my quiet room!!
Oh and my daughter is a perfectly serene, wonderful kid with an amazing temperment and we have a fantastic bond. I don't think a silent birth is neccessary for any of that. Its more about just wanting to give birth on my own terms and in a calm way.
They're not bonded after 9 months in the womb. Maybe singing Kumbaya would be even better.
I screamed like a banshee during all 70 minutes of labor and delivery of my son. For anyone who thinks "silent" birth is something normal, guess again. And by the way, mother and son have bonded quite nicely, despite the horrendous obscenities I yelled when he "crowned". I am unashamed.
@Wendy... You are my HERO! :)
"Silent birth" = sign of Scientology = founded in bad science
bertabutt: Scientology probably has "dirt" on Travolta that it threatens to release if he "blows"
Actually it isn't founded in any science at all. It is a scam, pure and simple. The celebs get white glove treatment, if you want to find out how regular joes get treated, seek out several of the stories of people who used to be inside. It is like an orwellian horror story.
Scientology is nothing more than a giant ponzi scheme using U.S. religious laws as a cover. Stay away from it, far, far away.
I thought these posts were suppose to stay on topic... This is about the method of birthing a baby and your all but a few of you busting your gums over religious intolerance. Give me a break all religion is man made not a one isn't. Man is to religion as two slices of bread is to baloney. We stack and stuff our sandwitch any way we like. When you start dealing in absalutes you delude yourself. There is no absalutes in religion. It's like philosophy with a diety attached. And they all change as time goes on.
I think shink she and john are wonderful people. But this scientiologist stuff sounds like a cult to me.they need to get
out now I mean look at tom and katy and thats no joke.tom c u need to listen to your beautiful x-wife at
let her have say in how your and her kids are raised. Nichole said she could not go there.
Scientology is a cult, but its not any more crazy then the zombie story Christians believe in. Fact is their all wrong. All were created by men and you know what happens when people get involved.
@ Chris, when you get right down to it ALL religions are cults...and I am a Christian and believe in some of those "zombie" stories. And please learn to spell.
another recruit for the galactic army! All hail Zoltar!!
You mean Xenu.
Scientology is a scam. The church of scientology convinced my mentally ill uncle to give them $20k. My parents went to court and got him a court appointed financial conservator, but they were unable to get the money back from the scientologists. Scientology preys on the weak.
Karen: Please learn grammar.
There is no Dana. Only Zuul.
@IntegralReality, what is wrong with my grammar? Please elaborate.
@Karen, your use of ellipsis is incorrect, your "ands" create a run-on sentence, and beginning a sentence with "And" or any conjunction is rather sloppy. Cheers.
ALL religions and belief systems are cults.
Humanity needs to believe Someone Up There is gonna "save them" from Death, that final bodily function we've all be encouraged and socialised to be afraid of..LOL!
When I die, I'm not going to heaven, I'm not going to hell, I'm not even going to Puerto Rico where the babes look fantastic –I'm going no place else than six feet down, just like everybody else!
I have no problem with that, but many people fancy they can escape it somehow.
Quite amazing this frailty of human existence.
We think we're sooo special, even as we amount to a human scourge on this unfortunate planet..
Religions are utterly FALSE, every single conniving one of them!!
You people are idiots. All religions might be cults, but Scientology offers nothing positive to society while you can at least argue that most other religions do. I mean come on, the Scientologists willingly infiltrated the IRS (Operation Snow White) in 1970 to purge unfavorable records about Scientology and its founder L. Ron Hubbard. Yeah, the Catholic church did some horrible things hundreds of years ago, and those peddo priests, but they are outliers with mental problems. If you still don't think Scientology is way worse than any other religion, then go get tested. It will either make you realize how crazy they are or they'll just assimilate you.
*DEAD* too funny
I'm really happy that they were able to have another child, but good grief...she sounds nuts.
They're both Scientologists. "Sounding nuts" is par for the course.
As Sgt. Barnes said in Platoon (great movie, and not just for military movie fans), "Shut up! Shut up and take the pain! Take the pain!"
No phred, all thinking people... people of intelligence don't become Scientologists.
"Beards" usually are a little off.
You are aware that Travolta is getting some honey one the side, right?
Scientology is a cult. Period. And not a cult for one with a thin wallet. It's more expensive to belong to this "religion" than any other!!!
@ Scott – All religions are a cult!!
not all religions are cults ie wicca, buddhism, and most native american religions are not cults as it does not focus on a single deity, rather a way of living and treating the earth. christianity, judaeism, islam, scientology, are technically cults by the websters definition, though :)
There's a fine line between what is and is not a cult. The beginnings of most established religions are very similar to what we so easily laugh at today.
yeah....lets have a silent birth and then sell some pictures to People magazine....ricky gervaise is soooo right about these nuts!
I have to agree with you! I had two children that turned out just great even though there was talking in the delivery room!!!
She shouldn't speak too soon about having such peaceful kids due to her silent births. She has no idea what this one will be like.
Yep, the Scientologists are loopy...right up there with the Catholics.
She's crazy, he's gay; it's a match!
Nuts is right! These people are hopelessly lost in this cult called Scientology.
I totally agree Jeepers.......I'm not sure how to take what she said tho..am I suppose to be happy she is one of the chosen few who can experience a silent birth OR should I be offended cause she makes the rest of us (99.9%) feel inferior cause we couldn't--personally I think what she said is caca.....she has to put up a front for her Scientology friends
Celebs (or ones married to celebs) need to stop giving medical advice.
I don't see anything that indicates that she "sounds nuts" – I think she seems like a lovely lady. I wish the family the best!
The best word for them is.. psycho!! Quoting Ron L. Hubbard? Dude was a deranged lunatic. lol.
Scientology is a cult because you cannot learn about the church without paying money. In order to advance to each level in the church and gain more knowledge, you have to pay even more money. Scientology is closed off to anyone who can't pay, and Hubbard himself was a science fiction writer and made numerous comments about how profitable it would be to create a religion. Any other religion allows you to audit the faith and know what they worship, for free and without obligation. Plus, other churches don't kill you if you leave. Not all defectors of Scientology have been so lucky, like Lisa McPherson:
Nuts!? Really?? Let me know when a scientologist goes on a witch hunt, or enslaves someone, or molests a young boy, or straps a bomb to him/herself... It's all of those other religions that are full of freakin' nuts!
"Nuts!? Really?? Let me know when a scientologist goes on a witch hunt, or enslaves someone, or molests a young boy, or straps a bomb to him/herself... It's all of those other religions that are full of freakin' nuts!"
Scientology has gone on a witch hunt against psychiatry and psychology, read up on the Sea Org regarding slavery, children have been molested in Scientology and it's been covered up, and they've stolen people's stationary to frame them for bomb threats, is that close enough?
This moral relativism and "two wrongs make a right" is good for one thing, allowing Scientology to continue business as usual.
Let's just congratulate John and Kelly for this great gift that came to their lives. Her religious belief is her business, and we should respect her for that.
BELOW AVERAGE PEOPLE TALK ABOUT OTHER PEOPLE
AVERAGE PEOPLE TALK ABOUT EVENTS
EXCEPTIONAL PEOPLE TALK ABOUT IDEAS
I agree. And what's up with the silent? It was a C-section. There was no reason for screaming, groaning or moaning because you feel no pain. And talking is worse than screaming during a birth? I don't quite understand the logic. Am I missing something?
Has anyone else noticed how carefully worded the whole preganacy and delivery stories were? Tie in the fact that she's 48 and there are no photos of her pregnanat, and I'm thinking there was a surrogate involved.
And yes, it all conveniently distracts away from his ...other interests...
Craptology is nuts.
