'HIMYM' juggles humor and tragedyDealing with death on a half-hour sitcom can be tricky. To this day, the best example of this is "The Mary Tyler Moore Show" episode "Chuckles Bites the Dust" (a little song, a little dance...), and a little more recently, "NewsRadio's" first episode following the death of cast member Phil Hartman, in which a lot of the cast's real emotions played a part. Monday night's "How I Met Your Mother," following the heartbreaking loss of Marshall's father on the previous episode, took place in Minnesota on the day of the funeral. The result was one of the best episodes in six seasons.

'Pretty Little Liars': 'A is for Alison'Last night’s episode of “Pretty Little Liars” is why I - as well as 3 million other viewers - can't stop watching. A wise friend of mine recently equated the breakout series with ABC's "Lost." You find so much out every episode, yet you never find anything out. And on that note... Home from their honeymoon early, Melissa and Ian exchange heated whispers at the kitchen table. Spencer tries to spy on the newlyweds, but, thanks to a creaky staircase, she ends up having to dart back to her bedroom to avoid getting caught. Was anyone able to make out what they were saying?

‘Chuck’ has a proposal for youYou have to hand it to the producers of "Chuck” - they certainly know how to launch a new story arc. I just wish they had done it at the beginning of last night’s episode instead of wasting 45 minutes. I’m thrilled to have the show back from its long winter break, but I felt let down by this particular return. Speaking of let downs, after all those promos showing off Sarah as a brunette, it looks like we’re going to have to wait one more week for that. (Insert curmudgeonly grumbling here.)

Ricky Gervais: Everyone took my jokes well[Want to hear more from Ricky Gervais? You can catch him on "Piers Morgan Tonight" on Thursday, January 20 at 9 p.m. ET.] Though there was a lot of nervous laughter in the room at the January 16 Golden Globes ceremony, host Ricky Gervais swears his scathing humor didn't offend anybody. "Everyone took it well and the atmosphere backstage and at the after show was great," Gervais said in a statement to the Hollywood Reporter. The funnyman also cleared up rumors that he had been scolded or fired during a long pause in the show in which he mysteriously went missing.

Patz: 'Breaking Dawn' bedroom scene was like playing TwisterThe recently released photo of Edward and Bella's bedroom scene in "The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn" has Twihards' hearts all a-Twitter. So what does the film's star Robert Pattinson think of the steamy pic? "I love how they release that for the first one. They just give it all away," he joked to MTV. One thing Pattinson won't give away is what it was like shooting the scene with rumored off-screen love Kristen Stewart. The actor tells MTV it was no different than filming a passionate encounter with Uma Thurman, his co-star in the upcoming "Bel Ami."

Elton John shows off baby ZacharyThe holiday season brought a special gift for Sir Elton John and his partner David Furnish: baby Zachary Jackson Levon Furnish-John, who was born via a surrogate on Christmas Day. The wee one posed for his first photo shoot for Us Weekly, which John and Furnish invited into their Los Angeles home for a little behind-the-scenes view of life with the newborn. According to Furnish, 48, Zachary’s “a content little guy...He just loves to be nurtured, cuddled, and sung to." |
