Though Marquee previously reported that plans for a TV reboot starring the Amazing Amazon had been scrapped, David E. Kelley now says the series is back on track. "The bottom line is, I had a lot of fun writing it, and we're still optimistic that we're gonna do it," Kelley tells New York magazine's Vulture. "We have a script that Warners and DC are very excited about." Kelley believes the networks took a pass because of bad timing. The show was pitched very late in the pilot-development season, so giving it a thumbs-up now would have required networks to divert a lot of resources at the last minute. Weeklies cheat sheet: Break-ups, babies and bikini bodiesViva diverse weekly magazine covers! For once, everyone didn’t run after the same not-all-that-interesting story. After last week’s drought of material, thanks to everyone focusing on however Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds spent their New Year’s Eve, this week's round-up provides us with a new babies (maybe) for Angelina Jolie and (seriously) for John Travolta; a "Tormented Taylor" Swift who was reportedly broken-up with via phone for a relationship that may not have existed; and the "bikini bodies" of three women that you've seen countless times before. Until next week... James Franco tuning up for a musical at YaleHe's a movie star, soap actor, book author, Golden Globe nominee, Oscar host, and now James Franco is adding another title to his resume: musical producer. IvyGate reports that the busy Yale student is currently in the process of putting together a musical-theater production called "James Franco Presents." Auditions will be held January 16 and 17 — though Franco won't be present — and the roles certainly sound interesting. According to the production's description on the Yale Drama Coalition site: "'James Franco Presents' is the story of a girl dealing with the realities of love and life once she realizes she can’t hide behind the wonderful fantasies of fiction. A comedic drama, this musical incorporates film and live musical theater to tell the story of a cast struggling to write and produce a musical that is grounded in high school realities but with a sci-fi twist. Sex, blood, and surrealism to be expected." Franco's play is expected to run April 7-9 and 14-16. Pac-Man coming to life with new reality seriesWaka-waka or just wacky? Beloved '80s arcade game Pac-Man is coming to life in a new reality series. According to Deadline.com, Merv Griffin Entertainment is developing an unscripted show about the pellet-eating yellow blob that was chased through a maze by Inky, Blinky, Pinky and Clyde. The series coincides with the 30th anniversary of the iconic video game. Merv Griffin's president of TV, Roy Bank, describes the upcoming Pac-Man project as a "big, crazy, 'Wipeout'-type event with a lot of energy. The idea we have is to take what Pac-Man is and bring it to life, to bring what is essentially the world's biggest game of tag to television." The world's biggest game of tag on television? Sounds...interesting. What do you think? Alicia Silverstone is expectingPerhaps someone should consider throwing one massive baby shower: Alicia Silverstone and husband Christopher Jarecki are expecting their first child, CNN has confirmed. Silverstone and Jarecki, 40, were married in June 2005 in Lake Tahoe following an eight-year courtship, and this is a moment Silverstone has been waiting for. The "Clueless" star, 34, recently told People magazine that she couldn't "wait to be pregnant," adding, "I'm destined to be a mother." Up next for the actress and author - who penned the vegan cookbook "The Kind Life" - are the films "Vamps," "Butter" and "Ass Backwards." Silverstone joins the list of stars who in recent weeks announced they are expecting, which includes Selma Blair, Natalie Portman and Tia Mowry. Jane Lynch: World's not ready for gay actors as romantic leadsThere could be another reason Coach Sue planned to marry herself on an earlier episode of "Glee" this season: Openly gay actress Jane Lynch believes the world just isn't ready to see homosexual actors playing a romantic lead. Most of the world is straight, Lynch tells After Elton, and "what studios want is for people to project their hopes and their dreams for romance onto these people. And I think that’s what stops them from casting gay people… It’s everybody looking at the bottom line." While actor Rupert Everett claims his career tanked after he came out, 50-year-old Lynch, who wed psychologist Lara Embry last Memorial Day, believes she hasn't lost work because of her sexuality. "I’ve never been turned down for a role because I’m gay," she says. "I’m a character actor, and that’s probably why. I don’t find Hollywood, in my own experience, to be homophobic. Have I ever been turned down? I don’t know because you never know when you don’t get something or why you didn’t get it. But I do think the straight folks will continue to play the straight roles." Round 2 on 'Jersey Shore'Is it just me, or was round two not nearly as entertaining as JWoww and Sammi’s Miami altercation? Dear “Jersey Shore”: The fighting is getting old. I speak for viewers everywhere when I say, please stick to mixing drinks and fist pumping. But I digress... Despite a few shining moments, like when she decided to climb into her suitcase or randomly hide behind a bush at the club, Snooki didn’t reach her full potential this week. Could it be that her new sidekick is holding her back? And on that note… |
