Andrew Garfield did a lot of yoga and pilates to get into that Spidey suit, and now Sony Pictures has unveiled a first look at how Garfield’s efforts paid off.
For the 27-year-old British actor, who began shooting “Spider-Man” back in December, donning the iconic costume is nothing short of a dream come true.
"I feel like a kid in my pajamas," Garfield told the U.K.’s Guardian at the time. "I can only say how it feels and it feels pretty special. It feels like a dream realized and a fantasy realized. I don't take it lightly and I feel incredibly lucky that I get to wear spandex for the next few months."
But Garfield’s just as serious about doing justice to his superheroic role as he is about doing justice to his outfit.
Director Marc Webb (“500 Days of Summer”) is taking Peter Parker back to his high school days, when he’s trying to come to terms with both his newfound powers and his uncle’s death, and Garfield acknowledges that he sees the task of portraying the web-slinger as "a massive challenge in many ways," as he recently told Details magazine.
"To make it authentic. To make the character live and breathe in a new way," Garfield said. "The audience already has a relationship with many different incarnations of the character. I do, as well. I'm probably going to be the guy in the movie theater shouting abuse at myself. But I have to let that go. No turning back. And I wouldn’t want to."
If you go see this movie, you are a loser!
then I'll see you in Loosertown!
i just dont know why theyre doing something thats already been done. thats just a waste of time and money. but heck, ill probably go see it haha. if theyre gonna replace Tobey Maguire, at least just get new actors and pick up where S-M3 left off. with all the writers in hollywood, im sure they could come up with a good script for a movie that people would actually see.
First, they're doing the remake because Marvel is doing The Avengers (a group formed by some of Marvel's superheroes) movie for next year, and they want to make the individual hero movies first. Their intention is to give a continuity effect. For example, Iron Man is referenced in The Incredible Hulk, and viceversa. Why didn't they think about this sooner, so they wouldn't have needed to do the remakes? Beats me! I guess it just occured to them too late, and decided: "What the heck? Let's do them again!"
Second, did you not read the article? This movie is NOT a sequel to the previous Spider Man trilogy. It's a new adaptation, and it centers around Peter's HIGH SCHOOL YEARS.
Its amazing that people can tell if this guy can play peter parker, or if this reboot will be any good FROM ONE PICTURE! Really people? You're that good that you can judge an entire film from one picture, what a talent! Anyway the reason for the reboot is easy: Disney. They bought Marvel and will eventually gain the rights to all Marvel characters, so Sony's getting there money's worth while they still can. I can't blame em, spidey's a cash cow. As for carnage, I never could understand why he is so in demand, sure its a great looking character, but all it was at its peak was a one note psycho, spidey has far more interesting villains. Two more things, its dark because the picture was taken at night, doesn't mean the whole movie is dark, and second, christian bale isn't the worst batman; would you rather have val kilmer or george clooney again?
And she looks great in spandex
Yeah,my dog is an engineer,.she likes to play monopoly and blah , blah!lahblah, blahblah.
can hollywood stop taking jewish boys as actors? they all look like doofus..
Uh really, Logan Lerman looks just fine to me. And he's 100% Jewish
Yea I'm with dave and bruce on this one. I really don't understand why rebooting anything in hollywood really severs a point. It may make more money but usually they are a flop. If u revamp the cast am continue a series its fine but to completely redo everything over and over again just really is no point. Plus rehashes are all we see nowadays its pretty sad. There are more movies and better ideas than to completely redo every movie ever made. Hell let remake blazing saddels while they are at it huh
Thank goodness it isn't Tobey Maguire again. He really nerded up Spiderman. It was Clark Kent and Spiderman as one.
Biggest hit of 2010: Inception. Biggest hit of 2009: Avatar. I think it's fair to say there IS a market out there for big-budget films that aren't sequels, re-makes or comic-book adaptations.
And if there had to be a new Spidey, I'd have preferred a Spidey 4 (even without the original cast) over a reboot with a new timeline.
ANY sequel to ANY movie...suck-ability guranteed!
*gasp* how dare you sir, Back to the future 2, Star trek 2, Empire Strikes Back, Godfather 2, and the dark knight are a few exceptions.
@Phishkiss....Thanks for proving my point! LMAO!!!!!!!!! :)
Ohhhhhhhhhhh lets hope they redo the whole series. I have been a huge fan of Venom for about 20 years i think. Was very annoyed they choose Topher ( skinny skinny skinny) to play one of the biggest and buffest villians spider man fights, Eddie Brock hung out in a sewer for months doing nothing but weight lifting to buff out. Plus I like Eddie very much but we paid to see venom why did they let him walk around most of the time without the venom face. They should have let Topher be sandman and the guy who played sandman would have been a 1000X times better as venom, he looks almost like Eddie Brock anyways even down to the haircut. Plus they kill venom? WTH was that about?
To the people that are complaining about Spider-mans size, the official stats for Spidey is 5'10 165, that is pretty skinny for a full grown man. That is his weight from that time he was in highschool to his twentys. The size of spidey in comic is dependant on the artist but his official stats are still the same.
nothing compared with watchmen. spiderman is just a low-class hero who beats a low-class villain.
When I was a kid we just read stuff....we couldn't make comments for people to read...Dr. Genius btw is probably a genius.
But since we are going to rant...Punishers....sucked. Batman's....eh?....Hulk....?yup sucked...ghost rider...sucked... Spiderman 1 ...better...Jonah Hex...ahh? I mean really is anyone every going to capture these comic book series correctly. Xmen and Spiderman 1, Iron Man our are best chances? If you love comic books..you will almost always hate some screenwriters take on them. How about just run a movie with some bad guys? I will take Kingpin...Beyonder...something. Green Lantern? Whats the bet? Name one movie that was a great representation of the comic book!!! I hear the director of Spidey 1 Bought the rights to the sword of truth series/Terry Goodkind. My hopes aren't that high.
I agree with Dave and the others who say out with the old in with the new storylines.
There are a TON of storylines in the Marvel universe and plenty in any of the Spider Man comics alone that would be totally sick on screen! Really the only limit is the budget!! Why continually go back to the beginning!!??
Everyone has a general idea of Spider Man's orgin. Can we move on to a new storyline with new villains?!!
"Andrew Garfield did a lot of yoga and pilates to get into that Spidey suit" Bwahahahaha!!!!! OMG..>Disney is gonna kill Spidey! Failage maximus!!!!
I agree this guy is probably better than Tobi. Also, I don't care about the reboots if the reboot is better. Besides, Marvel is slim pickins in terms of mainstream heros. It's basically either reboot Spidey, or reboot X-men, and Marvel decided on both.
I don't think redoing Spiderman is a bad thing. Case in point, the Hulk movie with Eric Banna was terrible, but The Incredible Hulk with Edward Norton is amazing. This new Spiderman movie should be better than that mediocre Spiderman trilogy.
Tobey sucked and didnt even fit the part..finally someone realized that! Good job guys!
With so many other comic book hero's out there, why do they feel the need to rehash Spiderman?
These 'instant reboots' are getting old – and desperate. Let me guess: 6 months after this Spider Man, they'll reboot it again. Hey Columbia Pictures! There are thousands of fresh, original scripts waiting for you over at the Writer's Guild building at the corner of 3rd and Fairfax – maybe give those a look?
Wow! He's got a perfect body. Nice broad shoulders, flat chest and stomach, and a nice bulge. Now if they can show us his thighs, calves and ass so that I can finish jerking off to his image.
You just set off a serious CREEP ALERT. LEVEL 10.
HOW CAN U SEE HIS BULGE CUZ ITS PRETTY DARK YOU MUST BE REAL IMAGINE NAITIVE
Yeah...new Spiderman movie should be called. Spidey – The Gay Years. This is gonna be horrible and uber teh ghey....yoga and pilates.....wow!
I still wished they could have let Toby keep the role. He was a great Spiderman/Peter Parker. Throwing in all of these no-named young actors doesn't have the same success as it used to.
Also, I know Spider-Man is kinda scrawny-looking in the comics, but seeing him so scrawny-looking in real life is really lame. This guy looks more like he should be modeling for the Gap than playing one of the coolest superheroes of all time. I'll keep an open mind, but at the moment I'm still not convinced this movie's gonna be any good.
Toby McGuire isn't a very good actor in the Spidey movies. All he could do was widen his eyes and cry. Why not just replace the actors and pick up where the last movie left off? I don't get it
Thank you for this totally useless article.
My guess why there's a Spidey reboot so soon is that Sony needs to keep it going otherwise Marvel Studios will be able to take back the rights for creating and distributing the movie globally (Which I'm sure they want). Marvel recently bought the distribution rights back for Iron Man from Paramount for some hefty coin. This seems the same with Fox on X-men and Fantastic Four franchise. That's why Fox is either rebooting or creating the origin stories for the heroes. Hey... Spidey's a cool super hero so why not. Just hope it's good...
"why not?" – because it was made in 2002.
WE DON'T NEED MORE SEQUELS AND REBOOTS
I think this movie will have a huge opening thanks to curiosity, and then it will flop. They don't have any of the people who made the previous movies great. I guess time will tell.
How is 27 Highschool? Must live in New Yorker...
I'm also getting a little bored with the series, but I'm still going to watch it because I'm a sucker for a Marvel movie. I wish someone would get into some of the other characters though. Captain America, Thor... Anyone. Thee are so many more to make movies out of.
Well, you're about to get your wish. They've already finished making a THOR film, and they are still working on Captain America. All of this is apparently leading up to an Avengers film.
I'm going to wait until this one bombs and they re-remake it in 2022, starring Will Smith's grandson.
I'm holding out for Italian Spiderman, The Movie!
I'm sticking up for Dave, this whole 'lets go back to the highschool days' kind of remakes suck, they're boring its been done a million times and its a terrible idea. I didn't even read the article much less do I have the urge to see this movie, I just entered to leave a comment to criticize it. Is it too much to ask anymore to get some decent movies? Something other than vampires, werewolves, and walking dead? The only thing that's dead, or near death together with the music industry is the movie industry. I haven't been to a theatre in YEARS because every single movie nowdays SUCKS!
I'm with the other posters. A reboot is unnecessary, and it'll be difficult to capture a large audience retreading the same material again. It'd be great if actually used one of more interesting recent story arcs as source material
I'm surprised that more people aren't "sounding off" criticizing this. I'm in agreement that Garfield's a good actor, sure. Boy A is an amazing movie. I'm not even complaining about the fact that the Director has only done one other feature film and it was a tongue-in-cheek comedy.
What I find truly annoying is that it sounds like they're not making a sequel, but re-making the first Spiderman movie. Spiderman 1 came out in 2002 for Pete's sake. Shouldn't there be a rule that you can't remake a million dollar movie unless at least 20 years have passed? Kind of a slap in the face to all those who spent the money to watch the first 3 spiderman flicks. I've heard the villain(s) will be different, but its still the same story of him becoming Spiderman.
I'm no expert. I can't write a script that's better than Spiderman, so I won't say "I can do better", but as an avid movie goer, I gotta say – COME ON PEOPLE!
Scroll back in time to the near top of this thread. I'm getting slammed for criticizing this uneeded and dumb remake.
@ Dave: I noticed that. No one stood up for ya, haha, sorry man.
I'm in the movie biz and know a lot of writers that can and do much better than this kind of stuff and believe me, its INCREDIBLY hard to get even a fantastic script to get funding. People fund Spiderman bc comic book movies sell, and remakes are almost a guaranteed money maker.
I also noticed many people are angry this movie's being made, but still, so many people are actually excited. Remake a movie that sucked – Tron at least was warranted. I'm getting too worked up over this. No matter what I say or do, people will eat these kind of movies up and give producers the right to say "yeah, but it sells, doesn't it?"
Brian: I need to be more careful at criticizing "Hollywood" when not liking one project (I'm just a fan, but a fan who thinks). I know there are many levels at work, and it would probably blow me away if I knew how many good ideas and projects got rejected. I think when top level decision makers get nervous (about $) or want a sure thing (lots of money) they make bad decisions.
Keep working on the good stuff man. One movie I liked was Sunshine. Moon was good too.
I agree with you Dave. Sunshine was an amazing movie. It gave me chills.
I will be happy if this film is really good. However, I have to wonder if it isn't just a touch too soon to re-boot the movie franchise. They could just as easily continue on with a new actor and have better scripts, instead of doing a re-start right?
Like I said, I'll be happy so long as it's good, I just kinda feel it's a bit soon to be hitting the re-set button.
I don't want a spiderman with a british accent
Obviously, I know he won't have a British accent, but the thought of a non-American playing Spider-Man just doesn't sit well with me. I've always been OK with Brit actors playing Americans, but this one – NOT SO MUCH.
I love all movies based on a comic book. All them even Hulk and Daredevil. It's just great seeing the comics I read as kid on the big screen. Sometimes the stories suck but the action and special effects are always top notch. And usually hollywood casts big name actors. The Watchmen was the best so far.
It is my understanding that Raimi (the director), McGuire, and Kirsten Dunst weren't all that interested in doing yet another Spider-Man. I enjoyed the first two films immensely. The third was decent, but not up to par with the others in my opinion. I kind of felt though that the last trilogy told the same story three times. I enjoy a good super hero movie, and I enjoy a good remake if it is something fresh or an interesting take on the original story. I'll certainly check this out, and I'll reserve judgment until I see something beyond this one photograph.
This is a bit much. Far far to soon to have a remake. The first Toby movie is still pretty fresh to be honest.
Heck, this would be the equivalent of remaking Hulk again.
It doesnt make any sense that they are rebooting this series less than 10 years after the previous reboot. I will not be seeing this movie and wish that the Tobey Maguire Spiderman would come out with a 4th installment that would make up for the lackluster 3rd installment.
Wait, isn't this guy 27 years old? From my recollection of spider-man, he was an intelligent kid. Has he failed 9 times? Loving high school a little too much? Oh, and he also looks like a red version of an emo twilight character.
According to Stan Lee, creator of spider-man, first off, was supposed to be a skinny nerd even after powers are gained. And, even with powers, he was orginally drawn and portrayed to look like a dork. Unattractive. He was meant to be a social loser. But, movies always ruin good stories. ALWAYS.
Why is there a chick in a spiderman suit?
Is this spiderwoman?
Seriously, what is that chick- 5'5" 116 pounds?
What do you mean how do you make a remake of a movie made a few years ago? Remember Ed Norton's Hulk remake? I personally liked the 1st Hulk movie better though.
The first Hulk was a disaster – retelling it a second time wasn't much better......Sorry....
Some People care alot about movies. And spiderman.
I grew up LOVING the spidey comics. I was so excited when the movie was announced. I was completely dissapointed and hated TobyM as Spidey (I don't hate him, just his role). SO not how I had Spidey pictured in my head.
At the same time, I also liked Iron Man, and thought RobertD did awesome and loved how the did the movie.
I like original movies, especially sci-fi and thought Sunshine was awesome.
So tired of remakes. Now they're doing remakes of remakes. Ugh. Come up with something new already!
This movie has a 27 year old playing a high schooler? That's pathetic.
Didin't the original Tobey McGuire Spiderman start in high school?
SO WHY DO WE NEED THIS CRAP?
Isn't is a little early to be making another movie especially since them main actor is different?
How do you make a remake of a movie made a few years ago? Soon Movies will be remade every year. Spiderman 2011 Spiderman 2012, Spiderman 2013. Spiderman the prequel. Spiderman the prequel's prequel. Spiderman Forever Sequel to the prequel's prequel's sequel. Spiderman 4, Spiderman 4 prequel, Spiderman 1 sequel's prequel.
tank: Where were you earlier! I got slammed above for saying this remake was a dumb idea. LOL, "Spiderman Pi of the 5th redo of the remake from the reboot of the 2013 Spiderman 4".
I'm in total agreement. It's not needed at this time...They should have let Raimi have full reigns on Spiderman 4 to redeem himself instead of Marvel and Sony throwing their weight around and doing it their way. 'Drag Me To Hell' proves Raimi is still the talented director he is – having too many cooks in the kitchen spoils a franchise.....'Batman and Robin' anyone??
If spiderman were going to star in a g@y pr0n then this is what he would look like. Geeze... let the dang franchise die already. This movie is going to suck!
I thought this one was supposed to be a black version of spiderman..."Tyler Perry's Spiderman"
If they go back to the origin story again, I hope they do it right and make Peter invent his web solution/shooter gizmos.
Can I get a "Like" button here please?
Ok, another Spidey movie....Personally, I love the Spiderman comics. Have read them since I was a kid (I'm 43), and has been a childhood hero of mine since forever.
However, I'm with a lot of the majority here – and hopefully a majority that go to the theatre, a Spiderman reboot just wasn't needed yet. It was way too soon and to be honest – you're not changing anything to reboot it. The Batman series needed a reboot (ok, more like a kick in the seeds), so we as the audience understood why. But 9 years after the release of the first Spiderman film – and only 4 after the release of the 3rd film? Yes, the 3rd film was awful – but there was still time to save the story and the franchise without having to start all over.....Just sad really....
It's way too soon to make a new Spiderman. Yes Spiderman 3 suck but Spiderman 1 & 2 were great & we still love Tobey and Kristen and it just too soon is all I can say. This is set up for failure and I will wait for it to come out on DVD.
Another femmy faced boy man to tell us how he gets himself psyched to play a been there done that role! Well, at least "N" will cream their jeans!
Maybe I didn't read it right, and maybe others know more about the movie than I do. But I don't think this article says it's necessarily going to be a re-boot. Just says he's in high school. So maybe it could be the time-period between 1 and 2? Just a thought.
The studio themselves have classified this as a "re-boot" of the Spiderman series.
"Simultaneous with the cancellation of Spider-Man 4, Sony announced that the franchise would be rebooted with a new director and new cast. The reboot film is scheduled to be released on July 3, 2012 in 3-D and was originally intended to focus on Peter Parker developing his abilities in high school. Sony also confirmed that James Vanderbilt would write the script for the new film and Marc Webb would direct it. Entertainment Weekly called Vanderbilt's script "gritty, contemporary" and referenced Batman Begins, Christopher Nolan's reboot of the Batman film series, which also reinvented the tone of the series. The cast includes Andrew Garfield as Peter Parker, Emma Stone as Gwen Stacy, and Rhys Ifans as the Lizard. In an interview with Emma Stone, Stone confirmed that the film will indeed be the first in what is suggested to be a new series."
birthday tomorrow wanna play in that movie so bad
Question for those more into the genre. Is the comic book Spidey always that skinny or does it depend on the artist?
It depends on the artist, though Spider-Man is traditionally one of the leaner heroes.
what happen to tobby
Who cares if it sucks or not, I would pay to watch Andrew Garfield read a phone book. SO HOT
Spiderman vs wolvyee.
How are you gonna have a new spider-man movie and NOT have Toby McGuire in it?....I can allready smell the failure in this movie...a british spider-man.....god help us all.
Yeah, next thing you know they will have a british Batman......wait, what?......oh, erm.....nevermind.
I didn't think the series was going terribly off course to the point that there should have been a reboot. I was looking forward to seeing the same actors....awe well.....
That's rich lets have a 27 year old play a nerdy high schooler! Film has runined Spider-Man. I didn't like how Sam Raimi direct the 3 big Spidy movies and a BRIT playing a NEW YORKER, Sickens me, this movie is already making me mad. If I had to choose Spider-Man 2 was in fact the best of the 3 but that still isn't saying a lot.
Remake already couldn't they focus on a Marvel Superheroes movie instead. Guess they need some type of movie to compete with the Dark Knight classic but that's impossible.
I was never a fan of the previous spidey. Something about him was just not right for the part.
SP3 wasn't great, but it wasn't awful, either. Spider-Man 2 was easily the best superhero movie – EVER. And I am far from the only person who thinks that.
To think they need to reboot so soon takes a special kind of idiocy or a special kind of greed. I'm thinking the latter, since obviously this new look is aimed right at the edgy emo set the new Wonder Woman and the new Superman is aimed at. First the Spider-Man comic was ruined by a reboot removing Peter's entire life with Mary Jane, and now the films are ruined by the same kind of desperate grab for more of the youth market.
It didn't actually garner the comic any more sales, and I have a feeling this film will alienate more than it attracts in the same way.
Spider-Man 1 was good, 2 was better, but they should have stopped there. And it's too soon to reboot the franchise with a new actor and origin. This may well be a great movie and a faithful representation of the characters and comics, but the fact that it's not original and that the other Spideys are still fresh on our mind is going to hurt it. Toby Mcguire will always be my spidey.
This will tank bigtime....another YAWN remake...reboot whatever. Is it any wonder why people do not go to see movies anymore? Can we have a somewhat original idea from Boringwood theese days? Also, he looks like a dork.
Another boring remake that will fail in the box office? You mean like the new Star Trek? Yeah, that was a total failure.
Spidey 3 did better internationally than the other two Spidey's. Thats why Sony went for a British actor not an American. Since some American fan boys felt Spidey 3 was such crap-why waste time trying to appease that crowd.BTW- I need #1 to own the complete Amazing Spider-Man-I need to hit the lottery!

I never heard of remaking a feature film only about a decade after the original. Just another sign that Hollywood is running out of ideas.
Same boring, cliche of a response. "Just another sign that Hollywood blah-blah-blah..." Here's an idea: how about YOU, Jon, coming up with a new idea and getting it made? You or anyone of the other cry-baby complainers sitting at a keyboard whining about what they're paying to watch someone else create? ... That's what I thought.
Wow John, talk about a lame cliche response. "why don't YOU do it" is a stupid comment. At least you didn't try to correct grammar, which takes first place as the most asinine thing a commenter can do.
Spiderman does not need a reboot. The Hulk did.
THIS IS A GOOD STORY.....FOR ME TO POOP ON.
I see no reason for another Spider-Man movie. I agree Spider-man 3 was a waste of time, and I cringe everytime I think about how Venom was portrayed...so sad. The first two Spider-man movies were great and did a great job of telling the story. We don't need to retell it just after 10 years. There are just too many great Spider-man villians that we would love to see on screen. I say let Spider-man be and move on.
You may let Spiderman be and move on? Not a chance. Just by reading your comment, Dude, you're a full-on fanboy, so you'll be one of the first in line - complaining all the way. Yep, one of the first in line at the local multiplex.
Go get em tiger! Man Tobys gone! A Reboot? Come on there suppose to be A spidey 4 not an all new spidey 1. Now we all have to sit through peter being in high school and his fights in school. With great power comes great responsibility.
Hope this spiderman is better. Spiderman 3 the whole walk down the street looking like cool emo spiderman looking like KD Lang did nothing for the film. No offense to Kd Lang fans.
They need to make a Spiderman Noir movie. The "Eyes Without a Face" series would be epic on the big screen.
I'd prefer 'What's the Matter with Daddy?' or 'Tyger, Tyger'
Both brilliantly comic noir series
Both brilliantly written comic noir series
Wow now spiderman is doing a how that came to be???? God why can't they go with the comic book I want to see carnage in a movie besides they left three open for a sequel
Frist off they won't do a comic book version ever for any movie, i have been a comic fan for years, but they are not trying to target us comic guys or girls as an audience because we are going to go see it reguardless of what they do, they want more people for more money. Second, i would love to see carnage in a movie too, but here is the problem, Spider-man 3 was trying to cram too much into it so it made it turn out like a bag of crap, story was jumbled, spider-man was emo, they had toby maguire playing him (lame) and they killed venom off in the end of the movie, yes they left it open for a sequel but nobody wants to see a continuation off that mess. It is best they do a reboot, and hopefully not screw it up. I personally do not want to see a sequel to that garbage that was spider-man 3, however, they are making a movie with Venom, yes his own spinoff film, and no its not going to be played by lame actor that 70's show Topher Grace, I can see Carnage possibly making appearances in that series not spider-man, but it would be awsome to see a maximum carnage storyline, but that will not happen because they can't put all that detail and all that story in an hour and a half movie, whatever they decide to do with either character people are going to go see anyways including myself in hopes they follow somewhat of a storyline and not screw up the character, i have ranted long enough, but thanks for reading lol.
First, you username suggests that your opinion is honest - just remember it's YOUR opinion. For instance: Topher Grace is an excellent actor who took a crappy part in a more crappy movie. Second, what ever happened to the two-to-three sentence post. Yipes with the epic entries, pal.
Yay! A Spiderman I might enjoy without having to look at Tobey Maguire's dopey face for 2 hours.
I still do understand why ANYONE would want to "reboot" a franchise 10 years after the start of the trilogy? Very original people! With enough money I could do that too......anyone gonna come see my new version of Ferris Bueller's Day Off? NO! But unfortunately people are going to flock to the theater to see this and make lot of people more rich then the need to be.....
Including you. Probably first in line, I'd bet.
let's hope they don't re-tell the origin story for the 100th time and just get into the action. And this guy's waaaay too old to play Spidey (assuming that the re-boot will take place during his high school years).
You want me to relive all that again? How many times do you people have to show us how this MENACE came into being? Can't think of your own stories? You're FIRED!!! BETTY...get me someone with an original thought in his body. Why are you all standing around? GOGOGO!!
How about an astronaut that turns into a werewolf, JJ?
Or hire a guy to wear a scorpion outfit
I here there's a new clown in town with a b "S" on his chest...oh wait...wrong universe. Curses! Foiled again!
The costume looks so dark and menacing? Its Spider Man, not Batman. After the 3rd, I'm hesitant to see another one.
Get out of my screen, and into my car!
So sehksy, Andrew Garfield. omnomnom
Garfield is an amzing actor. i have a feeling he's going to bring forth the best depiction of a superhero we have yet to see. Even better than Bale's Batman.
Is this a joke? Bale is a terrible batman, when he talks he sounds like he's constipated.
@Mitch: if Bale is so terrible, why are his Batman movies so extremely popular/successful? You're in a serious minority here, little man.
Bale is by far, the best and truest Batman to date. It's a shame Heath Ledger passed away, I'd have loved to have seen him take a psychotic Joker to the next level of just being completely insane after being in Arkham.
Bale was... not all that great... but the story in Dark Knight was awesome.
The Brits are taking over the superhero roles, lol.
Amazing alright. Amazing they call him an actor. There is no such thing anymore. There all clowns.
Another re-do. (retching sounds)
Someone's NOT doing their job (coming up with new ideas). Sheezes, give me their job. I could do better than remake spiderman. Pathetic.
That kid looks like a doofus. Sorry.
If you could do better you wouldn't be posting on a cnn blog
Okay, Dave, waddaya got?
Give you the job? This is the United States isn't it? Create your own opportunities.
@dave So where's your A-list script then, you insignificant little nobody?
whats dave got, potbelly spiderman.
Nate: no pot belly on me, I run 35-40 miles a week, and would look better in that spidey suit than that skinny kid.
The rest of you, I'm an engineer, my point was that re-doing spidey is stupid and has no imagination.Giveme their job was sarcasm. I wouldn't work in Hollywood for 5 million bucks a year (I don't earn that, but do A-Ok). Hollywood is braindead (some good stuff sqeaks by though). Obviously y'all wann keep remaking spiderman and Batman..... and that's happening.... so be happy. You sure can't take criticism well. Maybe deep down you know it's a dumb idea.
Nothing wrong in another Spidey flick. I look forward the the Trek sequels. People want James Bond forever. It's called entertainment. And it didn't begin in Hollywood. The Spiderman comics have been going on for how many decades now?
As an engineer you do nothing more than use the basis of what someone else has either already done or taught you to do. The whole Marvel comics thing was so successful because they could make a super hero be interesting to an audience for a long run of comics. You talk about originality, most engineers do nothing more than copy someone else's idea.
Dave, the kid is supposed to look skinny and wimpy. What Spidey comics did you read? Cause there was no big buff Peter Parker in any of the issues I've read.
Brian: I'm not gonna post personal stuff on this board, but do find my job interesting. I work for a processor manufacturer, and the facility I'm at is soon to get much bigger. What you described is the process that occurs in many fields, but the fast thinkers that come up with the new ideas are the ones that succeed. We'll see if this reboot is successful. What do you do for a living?
i totally agree with dave..
i bet everybody remembers Toby Maguire rendition of the first Spiderman.
Why redo it from the beginning, i know the story..come with something better and innovative
DG: No way. Perhaps before he was bitten. The comics I remember he was quite built. I now have a mission to search the archives to see if I am right.
He looks ripped to me.
Dave, I'm hurling right along with you. Why people pay money to watch this rehashed dreck is beyond me. Thank goodness for original ideas that get greenlighted, and for the ever-more-affordable digital video equipment that gives outsiders the opportunity to make their dreams come alive onscreen and get out of the rat race forever.
@dave. thats the problem with engineers. You ask them what time it is and they will build you a clock. Enineers are the hardest people to talk to and work with. They have to anaylz EVERYTHING. and i mean EVERYTHING!!!! they are so annoying. can not do just the simpilist of things. my god!!!!
Skip: I just did the CAD design for this really cool clock that looks like spidey (a ripped spidey)... you don't want it?

I say that instead of doing remakes, Hollywood turns to "Movie MashUps". For instance, combine the storylines of "Back to the Future" and "Sixteen Candles". Or perhaps, "E.T." and "The Breakfast Club".
Have a splendid Friday old chaps – cheerio now!
More like Dr. Psycho.
Sounds like you have a BS in BS. All input is welcome though. Without debate we're all a bunch of drones.
The spiderman you are showing here is a fully grown spider man. A full built man. If you read the article you would know that this spider man is portraying Peter while still in high school. Peter was much more Wire like back then. I have been reading comics since I was 8 yrs old. That is 22 yrs and Spiderman is one of my favorite. BTW I am an engineer as well.
I just wanted to correct you on the built part. Peter even fully grown isn't really built. Yes in that picture he looks very ripped but Bruce lee was a tiny guy and he was really ripped as well. The ink shadowing is what gave him that look.
Again this is a highschool spider man all of 16-17 yrs old. We develop our man bodies and bulk at 22 and up he just isn't there yet.
I don't know about this reboot but I will check it out.
Dave, I am with you. I am so sick of remakes and reboots. I am also quite sick of movies that are made for the ADD nation and have to have a million and one things going on every single section. They will not get any money from me on this one.
Frank: I still think the process of being bit (see TobyM in Spiderman1) produced at least an increase in definition, and Toby must have seriously worked out to aquire his look, which I respect. I've been known to be wrong, and I'm just stating my opinion. How boring would everything be if everyone just agreed. I apreciate those that put thought into their point of view though. Maybe this flick will be a winner.
Couldn't agree more with Dave. Come up with some original ideas. I enjoyed the original Spiderman, but I've seen it. Seeing it again would seem to only appeal to those who are hard core fans (readers of comics there whole lives) and the newer generation who just missed it the first time–for the rest of us, this is just a snore fest. As for engineers not creating anything, BOY, that is really a dumb statement. An engineer is literally someone who "designs or creates"–and no, I'm not an engineer, I am a lawyer. I just think it's ridiculous to criticize someone because he isn't a fanboy.
@ Dr. Genius: LOL! That was great!
I'm with Dave. Of all the things you can do, why repeat what has already been done? If it had been 20 or 30 years since they had done Spider Man, then I could understand doing a reboot. These movies are opportunities to explore new horizons, and so many times they just want to do the same old thing over and over.
If you don't want to see crappy re-makes then don't see big-budget film from a big Hollywood studio. They are all about safe bets, big audiences, and the bottom dollar. Of course they're going to do re-makes, sequels, and adaptations of ideas that have already been proven successful. To sink hundreds of millions of dollars into any project is risky – to do the same for a truly original idea is foolhardy, at best. They are doing their job, which is NOT to come up with new ideas, but rather to manufacture an entertainment product with broad commercial appeal. If you want original ideas, and there are plenty around, you just might have to look further afield than your local megaplex.
Original ideas and new faces for movies please. I personally am also tired of remakes.
LETZ HOPE IT DOENST SUCK LIKE EMO SPIDERMAN 3
Maybe they will actually get the Gwen Stacey part right this time.
Cant be worse than this EMO Spidey reboot. Idiots at Disney are going with Twilight Spidey....bah!
Sure, that looks like something a teenage boy could sew together with his aunt's sewing kit!
