Andrew Garfield did a lot of yoga and pilates to get into that Spidey suit, and now Sony Pictures has unveiled a first look at how Garfield’s efforts paid off.
For the 27-year-old British actor, who began shooting “Spider-Man” back in December, donning the iconic costume is nothing short of a dream come true.
"I feel like a kid in my pajamas," Garfield told the U.K.’s Guardian at the time. "I can only say how it feels and it feels pretty special. It feels like a dream realized and a fantasy realized. I don't take it lightly and I feel incredibly lucky that I get to wear spandex for the next few months."
But Garfield’s just as serious about doing justice to his superheroic role as he is about doing justice to his outfit.
Director Marc Webb (“500 Days of Summer”) is taking Peter Parker back to his high school days, when he’s trying to come to terms with both his newfound powers and his uncle’s death, and Garfield acknowledges that he sees the task of portraying the web-slinger as "a massive challenge in many ways," as he recently told Details magazine.
"To make it authentic. To make the character live and breathe in a new way," Garfield said. "The audience already has a relationship with many different incarnations of the character. I do, as well. I'm probably going to be the guy in the movie theater shouting abuse at myself. But I have to let that go. No turning back. And I wouldn’t want to."
