His latest movie may be called "No Strings Attached," but it seems there are quite a few hitches involved in getting director Ivan Reitman's planned "Ghostbusters" sequel off the ground.
"All of the actors but one have read [the script] and loved it," Reitman tells CNN of "Ghostbusters III." "We're waiting for one of them to read it and see where we are.”
“That would be the famous Bill Murray — Mr. Venkman," Reitman says of the quirky karaoke crasher/funnyman, who starred alongside Dan Aykroyd and Harold Ramis in "Ghostbusters" (1984) and "Ghostbusters II" (1989).
Reitman, 64, adds that he feels the latest installment is better than the previous two movies. "I'm really jazzed about it," he tells CNN.
And if Murray doesn't like it? “We have a very complicated deal," says Reitman. "Let's just put it that way."
This is one great forum, almost as good as the movie, all the exciting vibes I've been laughing at all the smartie pants out there. You people rock! Now I really want to see GB3, Pleasssseeee Bill where ever you are come to st pete florida, get some fun in the sun and go on set.
I think Ghostbusters needs left alone. All of you commenting are probably under the age of 18 and everything always has to be sparkly and new for you. You don't come back in a whole new decade and make a sequel. It won't be as good. I don't want to see them tracking ghosts on an iPhone. Also, 3-D is so annoying. They need to stop making everything in it, they lose a lot of money since a good percent of people can't see the effects.
I would really love to see a third ghostbusters film with the original four. That being said the story should revolve around the original team but then i read reports that the script would be about introducing a new team. If thats the case then i dont care to see it, i dont care to see a new generation of ghostbusters or the passing of the torch kind of movie where the original ghostbusters make cameos that would be GOD AWFUL. If they do go that route they would just alienate and cheat the fans that are anxious to see another Ghostbusters movie. As old as the actors are i would hope they can make a story that centers the orginal ghostbusters cause even if it was a bad movie i would still enjoy it as long as they didnt do the obvious route of introducing a new team. Murray if you do read this do the movie with this in mind other wise dont! Everybody wants a third Ghostbusters movie but do we really want to see an introduction movie of a new team HELL NO!
Bill Murray you are too old to be acting up like this!! Make a decision, it has been since early 2010 already!!
According to gossip columnist Mike Walker (via the Howard Stern show, via Bloody Disgusting), Murray is making a difficult situation even more difficult in regards to GHOSTBUSTERS 3. The man is evidently a real cranky-pants (pardon the foul language); despite the fact that Venkman isn't meant to be a main character (we all know by now that he becomes a ghost), Murray isn't playing nice with others.
Here's the skinny: Dan Aykroyd called 'ol pal and Ghostbusters co-star Bill Murray and snarled 'stop acting like a jerk', " Walker reported. "Murray, despite agreeing to doing the film, has suddenly turned so cranky and mean [that] he refuses to answer phone calls."
Said a source, "Producers gave Bill script approval needed for his cooperation, but that cant even seem to get him on the phone to talk about the script. He's even told 'em that his character needs to be killed off in the opening minutes of the film."
This doesn't help the film any, as Sony and Ivan Reitman are trying to resolve their own conflict. Something tells me we won't be seeing GHOSTBUSTERS 3 move forward anytime soon.
Murray is infamous for his dislike of sequels... and frankly, I hope he kills this one. Must we taint Ghostbusters the way other franchise have already been tainted by series reboots? Does no one remember the failures of Star Wars? Indiana Jones?
No, no one remembers the "failures" of Star Wars and Indiana Jones because they only exist in your mind.
Ghostbusters 3 is way overdue. It's about time.
you all need to relax and go eat some fruit or something
its just a fricken movie
What a huge bummer for us Ghostbusters fans. I thought they were already filming. I wonder if the professional rift between Murray and Ramis is still going on. Come on Bill, put your disagreements about Groundhog Day behind you and do this movie for the fans! You are Peter Venkman and Ghostbusters isn't Ghostbusters without you. Odds of Bill actually reading this post is 1 out of a quadrillion, but there's nothing else that could be said on the matter. I think Ramis, Aykroyd, and Ernie Hudson (assuming he's part of the cast too), can still make the movie with another actor playing a similar role to Pete Venkman, but it definitely wouldn't be the same and have the same charm.
He's just holding out for more money.
Come on, Murray. Don't be a party pooper. Venkman is your greatest comedic character. I understand not wanting to repeat yourself, but the people demand your ghost busting interlude once again. Don't make me come down there.
Bill Murray in Ghostbusters III?
With his ego, nothing less than Hamlet will do.
Reitman hasn't produced anything funny in years, and Bill Murray knows it. Well played, sir.
Bill's got oh so many fans out there that woukd LOVE to see GB III. Those who sufer through tons of Commercials to see BM in Caddy Shack over and over, not to mention GB 1 & 2 would be thrilled to see his talen adorn the silver screen again. A lot of he younger folks have only been exposed to is great comedic talent in Scrooged and Ground Hog Day (aside from his serious acting talent), would get a big charge out of GB III is its anywhere as good as the first two.
The first time I saw BM was on SNL with the late Howard Cosell in the earkly '70's, and have been hooked ever since.
Come On Bill – give us some more of your famous comedic talent – we need it in these tough times!
I know Mr. Murray wants to be a little pickier with his films, but this would allow the series to end on a great note, or the original "Ghostbusters" to pass the torch to some new faces...just a thought. Mr. Murray, we love you and hope you decide to take the role. They want you in this movie! They need you in this movie!
WOW.....GOOD THING IM A SENIOR CITIZEN I GET IN FOR 1.00...........AND IM NOT IN A HICK TOWN......
Bill. Do the damned movie already.
Just say No, Bill. Just say No.
If the plot was tweaked for a todays audience and the special effects were up to todays standards or beyond i'd watch it .wonder if Rick Moranis will be joining the cast or at least make a small walk- through , His goofball character was funny in the fist two . If Bill won't do it i will likely not watch it . He was the favorite and replacing his char or leaving him out would be horrible options. I don't want to see this movie turn into one of those remake types where you got someone like johny knoxvile ,ben stiler ..ect reinventing the roles.
The original Ghostbusters was terrible and I thought that it was stupid and lame back then as a junior high school kid.
Dang it Bill...c'mon be a team player. I'd like to see the sequel before my own kids have their kids, and last time a new GB movie came out, I was a yuppie-larva about seven years old!
Is there any real demand for another GB?
Maybe they should focus their energy on doing a movie with a NEW plot and NEW ideas instead of an 80s rehash based on film that's almost thirty years old.
you can't have a GB3 without Venkman....if he doesn't want to do it, then so be it, but I'm sure they'd do the movie without him, which would cause it to bomb
IMO, Bill Murray, in his older years, is beginning to look more and more like the late Carroll O'Conner.
DONT DO IT BILL!
Just get Jim Bulushi to play his part. Nobody will be able to tell the difference.
I'm tired of hte sequel after sequel after sequel mentality in hollywood. They keep recycling the same stuff and same actors in similar roles with similar themes and similar effects and similar BS. Be original guys. I wouldn't mind seeing Bill Murray in something new. Seeing him in Ghostbusters 3 just would make me think about how much he's aged since then.
The old ghostbusters worked because of its unique chemistry. Every movie is unique. I loved dan akroyd the most, even to this day because he really is zany, but what made bill murray's character so interesting was that he was only in it for hte money and not really into the ghost things like the others. Any sequel is just not going to be simlar and will be unable to catch the same flavor. Put a fork in it. Put Bill Murray in a different kind of movie and no one will notice he's aged so much. Honestly.
I can not belive what this country can do to a child
Hey, look, I dont know who u are, but ALL OF YOUR COMMENTS ARE STUPID, SO U SHOULD JUST SHUT THE F*** UP NOW!!!
So I gues its the indavusal all those fuciltys an lives only matter by the one my famly was like the shootings they turned it to intertanment
I love Ghost Busters but these guys are far too old to put the suits on again. Maybe they could play some elder council and bust ghosts in a more dignified manor or something. I would enjoy the banter again and a special effect update would be cool to see.
Seriouly, these guys are old enough to play the ghosts in ghostbuster. And where's Sigourne Weaver?
People don't mean a thing to you do they
Press charges adgenst the us
I grew up with the first 2 GB movies and of course loved them, especially the zany first one. That said, I can't see a GB 3 with the original cast or a GB 3 at all. Those guys are all like 70 and corporatized now whereas when they did the first movie they were young(er), hungry improvisational comedians. GB 3 I think would be rather blah. Another special effects laden PG-13 flick that would be forgotten in 4 months' time.
You r running american terist networks you r fighting the war you r doing it in the usa an getting away what only 400 years old is that the excuse
The extint will b noticed
PLEASE stop with the remakes!
True Grit was good though....
I thought you said to never cross the Streams !!
Let's go Bill! The script can't be any worse than some of your other notable movies...Groundhog Day....Lost in Translation...Sign on already!
Bill, come on man sign!! I would see this movie in a heartbeat!!!
You will not get away with you're crimes
Nice to finally see some news that doesn't involve politics, war, or that bimbo from Alaska! Come on Bill, we need another Ghostbusters...do it for humanity! Do it for America!
They drew blood from me an used the public brodcasting systems to play god in controling body move ment dreams then they put me back on the coutch for the animals you will not get awaywith you're crimes read it you will not get away with you're crimes
I THINK THE WRITER OF THE ARTICLE NEEDS TO WATCH THE MOVIE CLOSER. BILL MURRAY IS DR. VENKMAN, NOT MISTER. HE DIDNT SPEND 8 YEARS IN GHOST DOCTOR SCHOOL TO BE CALLED MISTER. He holds PhD's in both parapsychology and psychology
I think Bill Murrays a great comedic actor. Stripes was brilliant!! I hope Dan Ackroyd & Harold Ramis will also join in. its a shame its taken over 21 years though for part 3 of GB. What about a sequel to Stripes that would be fab!!!
what about ernie hudson he was 1 the of GB
This is amazing how the 3R min songs an the 2e houre long movies an the tv shows have such
A g I don't know did you do an airwave joke of mememememem through a dog to silance a kid an they can't waight to get murder
who you gonna call?
i guess the ghost busters will be getting meals on wheels at the fire house...
bill's smart not to get involved...
i guess the senior center is infested with ghosts...
how old is casper?
I love the smell of naphalm in the morning, and the taste of insincerity in the afternoon.
awesome i would love to see ghostbusters 3 in 3d id pay 18.50 too that!!!!
I love Ghost Busters 1,2 and I love Bill Murray. I hope he will do it. His fans would flock to see it.
It's Dr. Venkmann!
maybe Bill should go to dollar general and buy himself a cheap dick and do the movie.
Hey I would love to see Stripes II.. Murray was great and so was Pauly Shore. Ok so why not?
First of all the movie sucked anyway and second Bill Murray isn't even funny either.
I like the idea, but I don't want to see a crappy movie that only shows that the icons of my youth, like me, have grown older. We had this place where you could see $1 movies back in '84, and God knows how many times we saw "Ghostbusters". Hopefully Bill Murray is thinking this through...and realizing that sometimes it's best to leave well enough alone.
But, if it must be made, it must be seen, and I'm sure we can find a cache of cheap beer, Dutch Masters cigars, and a beat up Ford LTD to see it in. :-)
Odd that he's holding out, they did an awesome job with the Ghostbusters video game and all four of them did voices for it and the story was great. I was actually so happy with it I didn't even care if they made a third movie, but if Ivan has a script and says it's better than the first 2 get on with it already ;)
Seriously Bill...do the movie!!!
Ghostbusters III couldn't be any worse than you doing Garfield. Really......
Just kill off Peter Venkman, Ph.D. and start shooting the darn movie !!!!
I think Ghostbusters is the one franchise that won't suffer from the age of the leads. I mean, they were goofy looking scientists in the first 2, so it follows that 30 years later they are old goofy looking scientists. Ramis should drop some weight though.
"and the flowers are still standing!" -Bill murray
Wonder if the nerdy guy is going to play in it as well (rick morranis)??
The black guy better be in the movie......Ernie Hudson
C'mon Bill, read the script and get back to Reitman. Your fans Love Ya and Miss Ya Man!! It'll be hilarious and very profitable!!!
I'm glad all of these sequels from my youth are coming back – makes me feel relevant again. Tron, Wall Street 2, now Ghostbusters, all I need is Weekend at Bernie's 3 and I can finally leave the house and start my life.
I think they should make a p0rn movie in 3-d..that would be hot.
"Mr. Venkman"? I thought Bill played Doctor Venkman.
THANKS EVERYONE for the great feed back. I, along with 3 other agents, have been pushing Mr. Murray to take a look at this very comedic script. I think we will have soon success if there's enough buzz going around. Please keep it up. I've set up an email account for anyone to write a quick message to Mr. Murray so we may show him the demand for this film. I will be checking inbox daily and forwarding your emails. Please keep it cried. Thank you CNN! email@example.com
Wasn't Sigorney weaver in one of those?
I thought the first was a classic and the second was pretty craptastic, so I don't know what to say about a third. Considering the trajectory of Bill Murray's career, they came up with a script for the third about 18 years too late. He's moved on to more serious (even when still comedic) roles.
That's Dr. Venkman, thank you very much.
"Back-off man, I'm a scientist"
bill murray doesn't need to make another ghostbusters – and we don't need another sequel
I watched GB1 and GB2 as a kid and now my child watches them on DVD and loves them!!! We'll definitely be seeing GB3 if it ever hits the theaters!
There is no Ghostbusters 3...
Well, it says he hasn't read it yet, or is the last to read it, it doesn't say he's holding out, or refusing. C'mon people, read the article properly!!
That being said, i really hope he does this movie because the first two are classics! GB the game was fantastic throwback to the original two movies, and thanksully they used the actual actors voices. New ghosts, new special effects, and if the story is written properly, it won't feel like old guys running in jump suits with large proton packs flashing on their backs... it has the potential to be something unique and well done if written properly.
Perhaps he can read it and suggest some changes to make it better if he doesnt like it.
Don't do it Bill. Not worth tarnishing the franchise.
Murray won't do it for a personal reason, he doesn't get a long with Harold Ramis. Ramis doesn't understand what he did, but he once told an interviewer "If you ever talk to Bill Murray, ask him to give me call" So I would guess that Ramis did something that even he doesn't understand. Don't hold out any hope for the Movie to be made
As much as I would LOVE to see GB3, I am sad that it has taken this long to make, if they can even make it. It will NOT work without Dr. Venkman. If Murray won't do it, it shouldn't be done. Of course, it probably shouldn't be done anyway. I am a huge fan of both the movies and would probably pay the money to go see this at the theatre, even if it "bombs". But realistically it would have to be one PERFECT movie to live up to the first two. I'm sure they are not as good as I remember them, but they were created in a magical time in my life. In my mind there is nothing better than GB/GBII.
Bill f***ing Murray!!
The problem with GB2 is that like too many sequals it had too many elements put in because they were in the first movie...hey guys this time instead of having something huge try to get the GB's lets have the GB's have something huge on their side....boring. Do a GB3 if you must but it doesn't have to be a replay of the first two. Show some imagination, trust that your audience is not a mass of drooling idiots and doesn't need it to be jsut like the other 2.
Come up with a new storyline, think outside the box, it just might end up being worth seeing unlike GB2.
Yes, the new game IS GB3. It follows the events of 2 and very artistically links all the events of the game and both movies together. Weaver declined the role. They had to invent a new female counter for Venkman. Weaver wanted in at the last second but a new actress was already cast. Stupid move on her part.
of course hell be in it...duh...it got everyone talking though...
I hope they don't make it. I would have for them to compromise the integrity of the franchise. Yea, Remis read it and liked it, but Remis also read and liked "Year One" and "The Ice Harvest". As legendary as he is, his recent works haven't been able to hold a candle to his work in the 80's and 90's.
bill murray hasn't read a script yet, and there are people on here calling him names and saying that he is responsible for this film not being made. this blog post doesn't say anything that should not have been obvious to anyone with a functioning brain cell.
"quite a few hitches"? really? he simply hasn't read the script yet.
pathetic attempt at journalism.
I guess Bill Murray forgets his roots. I guess he thinks he is too good for this now?
I love the American culture .. hugs
poor Americans beyond the crisis are losing the culture humor
Bill must be too busy filming another Garfield movie.
Is Harold Ramis (Egon) involved in any of the writing? If not, it might not worth it.
Just had to add that I think it's funny that right next to the picture of Bill Murray, is an advertisement for Grey Goose! lolol
"Since I started working for these guys I have seen s*** that will turn you white." Best line in the movie.
Ehh, I don't know about Ghost Busters 3 anymore.. I played the Ghost Busters videogame on Xbox awhile back and thought it was great, but the ending really didn't give me the closure to Ghost Busters that I was seeking. I think Ghost Busters 3 will be released, but it will be garbage. Bill is going to agree to it, but only because of the money that's going to be involved. If you were in his shoes it would make more sense to just cash in on it while you can because he's getting old and the oppertunity won't come around again. He knows this. Watch, he's going to hold out for as much money as he can, do the movie with minimal screen-time and after he's paid and the movie bombs he's going to act like GB3 never happened. Either that or he's going to say how he knew along that GB3 was bad idea and should not have been made.
I feel sooo......funky.
You mean u watch the movie got better things to do ! (:-)
Dear Mr. Murray,
I grew up watching you in Ghostbusters. I am just a lowly fan of yours but I assume that I speak for many others like me that if this movie doesn't happen because you decide you don't want to do it then I won't watching anything else you're in again. So please do this and stop holding it back by not reading the script yet.
Loved the GB1. GB2 was just something to pass the time. GB3 would suck major ass. The only way they could make it "work" would be such an extensive revamping and modernization of the whole damn thing that ya really wouldn't recognize any of it anymore. And you're not gonna find any "kid" actor out there that has the same kinda lounge-singer swagger that (Dr!) Venkman's character had. And the reason we appreciated this attribute of him was because the other "Busters" were all very poler opposite in their demeanor. And after reading these comments... if they are stupid enough to make any kinda reference to 9/11 souls... (just stops, hangs his head down and slowly shakes it side-to-side in a quiet "No-No-No" fashion.) And that's another thing... W-T-F ever happened to original movie ideas? I keep seeing a bunch of dredged-up re-engineering of old TV shows or movies from the 60's, 70's and 80's hastily done for no other reason than to make a quick buck. Don't be a Byter... ya gotsta Show-and-Prove with your own Stilo!
I think Bill would be missed but only by the parents. Get Mel Gibson he'll hate ghosts like he hates everyone else.
Wasn't the Ghostbusters GAME, "Ghostbusters III"?
Bill Murray needs to do another funny movie since its been awhile since he has done one.
Actually that's DR. Venkman to you.
I bet all the other actors "loved" the script. They would probably do anything to get back in a big time movie. Murray, on the other hand, is an A lister and doesn't have to do drivel like Ghostbusters 2 anymore.
What's with all the hatred for Zombieland? His cameo in that film was hilarious. However, that being said, I have to agree with Tim about Murray being a pompous ass. If one can find it, check out his guest appearance on American Chopper when they made the Caddyshack tribute bike. Throughout the episode he was sarcastic and not the funny sarcastic either. He seemed like he didn't want anything to with the Teutuls and came across as a complete jerk. The only time he seemed anywhere near friendly was at the end when they unveiled the bike in front of an audience.
They make it sound as though Murray has poo-pooed the project already. Has he?
Bill obviously doesn't want to do it after Harold Ramis let his friends, the guys who wrote the horrible 'Year One' write the script. That's right folks. The guys who wrote 'Year One' wrote GB3. That's why Bill Murray doesn't want to do it, they're trash.
The interesting thing here, regarding the actors age, is look at Tron Legacy. Same issue. So are we going to see CGI gb's running around? I hope not. Then again, it might be the gb's tracking down all the early bird specials.
The first movie is my favorite. I remember how creepy it was in the beginning of the movie, the unknown librarian ghost, the music...but the great "3" stooges kept it lite and that is what made it such a great film.
The second film was ok. But the first is the best. If they can recapture the spirit of the first film coupled with a great story line, itll
rock. Or, it'll be Matrix 3.....
Keep your fingers crossed!
Peter McNichol (Janisch) made the second movie – he was hysterically funny.
The plot of this one is to center on Oscar(Sigourney Weaver's son) becoming a Ghostbuster. Straight from HER mouth!
I don't understand, they all got together 3 years ago to voice the Ghostbusters video game, but Bill is a movie holdout?
"Ghostbusters" was novel and fun. "GBII" was obviously another trip to the well. I think life will go on just fine without "GBIII".
It has to have Bill Murray. He makes or breaks that.
Don't be a Dick Bill,
MAKE THE MOVIE!
Bill murry is a communist. down with pinko
I think he can hear you Ray
everybody in this forum is a D-bag!
I HATE TEXTERS!!
woops i just sharted. who am i gonna call?
You know Bill....after 'Garfield'....you kinda owe us GB3.
PS: Loved you in Zombieland.
I concur. DO IT, DO IT, DO IT! A classic series deserving a classic finale!
OK, Steve Corell plays Dr Richard Venkman, the son of the Dr(Bill) & Mrs(Sigourney) Peter Venkman. Only later to find out that it is the result a compilation from the first meeting between Dana(Sigourney) and Louis (Rick Moranis).
Take it from there
Make that James Franco or Jason Segel and it's golden! No one would buy Steve Carell as a 26 year old.
Even easier – Jack Black could play Oscar, Sigourney's son from GBII, adopted by Venkman...
I think, forgive my assumption, if you pay $7, or $9 or even $12 for a single 3D movie.....the thought is perhaps you are not going alone and that would double or triple, say if you have a few people (students or kids) with you, even an 'economy hour' show, with whatever snacks you may elect to purchase, put the movie experience, in the theater, hick town, small town or big ol city, at $25+ for you and the members of the group accompanying you. Such passionate responses, could that be directed in a positive way????
Trust me I understand, when my wife and I go it is like $30.00 to go to the movies, but I have to say that if it is the wright movie I will pay to see it in 3D and in IMAX 3D. I went to see Avatar in IMAX 3D and it was no cheap, but I would never see it any other way. Now I am not a dummy by any means, but it was worth the price. I would not go see every movie in 3D, just ones that you know would be better in 3D.
Okay here we go with the price thing. I live on the east coast and things are a little higher only because the pay is a little higher than the reset of the US other than California. We are not all d-bags and you may pay less because you live in another part of the US. This does not mean that you are a hick or less then us on the East Coast, you just pay less than we do that is all.
3D movie Adult = $14.50 3D IMAX Adult = $16.50
Senior = $13.50 Senior = $15.50
Child = $11.50 Child = 13.50
Now if you do not know what IMAX is, it is the screen that ist 72 X 52.8 Feet, this is why it is higher in prince and also it is in 3D. you can also go to IMAX 2D movies that are a little less.
Oh, come on Bill – SURELY enough percentage points on the back side can influence you to spend some time re-creating your OWN personality for a few weeks. Or maybe they can shoot your scenes in a couple of weeks. At your house, so you don't have to drive. And you can do the promos via Skype. And Ivan will send you dark chocolate covered almonds – you know, that Belgian brand you like? And hire hot Asian girls in bikinis and stilletto heels to walk on your back....
That's DR. Venkman to you, pal. Please do not ruin this with overdone special effects, camera mayhem, and the general urge to WOW everyone with anything but wits. The genuis of the original is that it just took great dialogue, lighthearted humor, and beautiful camera work around NYC.... not to mention a fantastic story.
"Reitman, 64, adds that he feels the latest installment is better than the previous two movies. "I'm really jazzed about it," he tells CNN."
how is it better when it isn't made yet?....
There was a BLACK guy in Ghostbusters?!
Winston Zeddemore played by Ernie Hudson! He was great!!
what about the black guy?? !!
Offer him unlimited booze of his choice and you have your man !
DO NOT MAKE ANOTHER GHOSTBUSTERS. sequels ruin the originals. Wall Street-classic. Wall Street 2-ruined. Ghostbusters 1-classic...2-not so much...3- killed
Its not like bill has had anything worth watching in a LOOONNNNGGGGG time. I think GB3 would be a hit. If he dont want to do it they should do a NEW ghostbusters movie ( 4 young actors) and have the remaining 3 that want to do the film be guest appearences or trainers.
Just DO the Film Bill.
That's *Dr.* Venkman, you dopes.
Hmm, GB3? The second one wasn't great, no better than the second MIB for which they are also trying to get #3 off the ground. Hey if Murray won't do it just replace him with Kevin Nealon. He's always waiting in the wings to be Bill Murray or Chevy Chase's replacement. Wait, introduce Venkman's cousin or brother played by either Jim Carrey or Will Ferrell. I'm kidding of course.
I heard the script was about fighting the ghosts of 9/11. And in the movie the Ghostbusters would be portrayed as bigger heroes than firefighters. Bill Murray probably thinks it's inappropriate.
Who told you that? The voices in your head?
Bill Murray has been in some real stinkers in the past few years – cough (Garfield) cough – I can't think of a single reason why he wouldn't do GB3 since he's already sold out.
Bill f***in Murray
I am from a town far from you – I have small town and big town close to me I am job – I am job
Dr. Venkman: "HEY, I'M A VOTER; ARE YOU SUPPOSED TO LIE TO ME AND KISS MY B***?" Classic!
This will not be good. It would be like watching harrison ford in Indiana jones part 4 it was horrible. The guy was too old to be running around like that and I think the same of bill murray. They should do a new Ghost busters with a new cast....just like they did with batman!
I hope they post exactly when Murray agrees to this. I can't wait to see this!!
BILL, PLEASE DO NOT DO THIS MOVIE.....
Let it go... Let it rest... The originals were great.
Dont let todays over rated FX take over what was originally excellent comedic writing and timeing.
Let it go... Let it rest... The originals were great.
BILL, PLEASE DO NOT DO THIS MOVIE.....
Bill Murray is over rated. He's probably holding out for $.
No Venkman, No Ghostbuster! I want the original cast!!!
AMEN TO THAT!! come on bill it will make up for zombieland lol
My son and I totally loved the recent Ghostbusters game for Xbox. He had never seen or heard of Ghostbusters before, so we went and rented the movies. I know he and I would both love to see a third, if Billy Murray would come on board.
C'mon Bill! The people demand a trilogy!
They won't make it without Bill, and I do believe he will do it. How could he resist? Of course the script needs to be good, but if it isn't to his liking they can always fix that. Goooo Ghostbusters!
Look I loved Ghostbusters, but did any one of you see the same sequel I did. I was made as a cash-generating machine and was an abortion. I wouldn't mind seeing a GB3, but with Reitman at the helm. Have you actually seen his movies lately? I remember reading a very scary script treatise and Reitman was given the green light for directing. He re-wrote the script and gave us that afterbirth on toast, Evolution.
I would rather see a sequel to Battlefield Earth than a GB3 directed by Ivan Reitman…
Actually Battlefield Earth II could be awesome. You would not be screwing up a franchise, and there is no way to make it worse.
Don't make the movie. The only way it will make money is if they do a lot of special effects crap and make it 3-D. Stop making sequels and come up with new ideas.
Just don't make Caddyshack III...Caddyshack II was insuferable....led by horrendous Jackie Mason.
Wow the stupidity of most people never ceases to amaze me. The fact that so many of you would consider yourself at least somewhat of a Bill Murray fan, and yet have ABSOLUTELY NO CLUE as to why he wouldn't want to do another Ghostbuster movie speaks VOLUMES about the way he is about a lot of things.
To paraphrase Ash from Army of Darkness "Get out of my face, you damned primates."
Oh, and you're the only one here with a clue, Mr. smarty pants?
Kill Bill! He's ruining all of our lives by not doing a sequel!
yes, have some
I heard a few months ago the stipulation for Murray to come and do the movie was as follows:
He wants to die in the beginning of the movie and come back as a ghost later on.
Now that isn't a half bad idea.
I don't think GB3 would go straight to video, the point I was trying to make that you apparently missed is that the moviegoers today probably wouldn't see it on the say-so of their parents, and the few die-hard GB fans that would attend, (and I am one, you dumb m0f0) probably would not make a big-budget film like GB3 financially feasible. I hope they do make it, though. And if you misread my post because it contained big words and was too long for your attention span, I'll try to dumb it down for you next time.
Oh wait, no I won't. I speak to the intelligent folks here!!!
No one is saying Bill Murray isn't going to do Ghostbusters. He hasn't read the script yet......Murray is notorious for being hard to get ahold of..... he doesn't have an agent..... and he has a voicemail that he rarely checks from people wanting him to read scripts. He'll do it, he's said in interviews that he's interested in doing another Ghostbusters. Everyone needs to chill. Geez.
Maybe have them make a brief cameo, but not for a full length, they are past their prime for this kind of roll, sorry to say. It needs some fresh blood.
RAY:Everything was fine with our system until the power grid was shut off by dickless here.
PECK:They caused an explosion!
MAYOR:Is this true?
PETER:Yes, it's true. This man has no dick.
** PECK lunges at PETER. Police try to break up fight.**
Ernie Hudson: "Ray, when someone asks you if you're a god, you say YES!!!"
RAY: What he means is Old Testament biblical, Mr. Mayor. Real wrath-of-God-type stuff. Fire and brimstone coming from the sky! Rivers and seas boiling!
EGON:Forty years of darkness! Earthquakes! Volcanoes!
WINSTON:The dead rising from the grave!
PETER: Human sacrifice, dogs and cats living together, mass hysteria!
LOL....awesome quotes Manny
...this man has no dick."
“That would be the famous Bill Murray — Mr. Venkman," Reitman says.... That is DR. Venkman, not Mr. I didn't go through 8 years of paranormal activity school for you to call me Mr. Venkman
Doctor Venkman, I too am a doctor and also went through years of "paranormal activity." I don't mind what people call me, including "Mike." I really don't like it when they call me "late for dinner."
Other than that, Mr. is perfectly fine.
I thought the recent video game was supposed to be the continuation of the story.
With these old guys, it should be called Windbusters III.
to Jeff, lmfao, so funny
Or perhaps Hipbusters III... lol
U guys r morons!!!Bill Murray may be old, but thats like saying Harrison Ford or Arnold Swarchzenager is too old for action movies!!!Think about how big of stars these people are!!!
What about Bob?
Oh my God!!!! Seriously this has to happen! Please please please Bill Murray! There is nothing like reliving childhood memories and playing the new Ghostbusters game was amazing! I grew up in the 80s as a young boy filled with Ghostbusters! I had EVERY toy ever made, tshirts, the cartoons every saturday morning and loved the movies! I seen Ghostbusters 2 at the drive-in theater and loved every second of it. I now have children and they also love the Ghostbusters movies. It would be the best thing to have this movie for myself to enjoy and for the new generations of kids. Lets do this!!! Please!
I hope its not in 3D. Ill be glad when that fad is over. I cant stand the 3D stuff. They tried it in the 60's and it didnt work then either. 3D TV sales were way lower than they thought, and some poll I seen was something like 81% of the people polled said they wouldnt buy one.
If you watch the first 2 movies carefully you can tell Bill did not want to be there. I cant imagine him wanting to to a 3rd. It would be nice if he did!
@Chico – glad you can see stuff the rest of us can't. How can you say Bill didn't want to really be there? Seriously, what "clues" gave it away?
Actually, the part was written for John Belushi, bu tthen he died so Bill Murray was just a fill-in.
Also, Chevy Chase and Dan Akroyd are friends. Chevy & Bill Murray hate each other – always have since Bill replaced Chevy on SNL. I suspect Bill & Dan aren't that close, so probably won't be working together again anytime soon.
Bob! Bob! BOB!
I had thought they already made a GB3, figured it was a flop, and that was that. I guess I didn't realize this gravy train hadn't left the station yet. Ten bucks says it'll be in 3D, to make up for lack of an original plot.
Hey all, keep in mind that the writers of the script that they like have also penned some classics from "The Office". Although, I suppose whether that puts a positive spin on the project or a negative spin on it is preference.
Yes..but they also penned 'Year One', what a piece of garbage that was lol
May be he should do Meatballs 3
i was just thinking that...but there was a meatballs 3 and he wasn't in it....but maybe they can make meatballs 4....that would be like 30 years after the orginial.....which is an absolute classic and blows both GB movies away.
Sadly, there was a Meatballs 4 already, starring Corey Feldman. I'm not making that up.
If he is the last person needed to film the movie, he will be able to get the most money.
He would have made the most money, signed first or last.
I think the Murray knows he is a different kind of actor now. His humor doesn't translate to a modern audience as well. And perhaps, he isn't as funny as he used to be. So to do this movie, would mess with his image, cause he knows he can't live up to expectation. And instead of people remembering how funny he was, they'll say, man – he shouldn't have done that. I Absolutely love Harrison Ford – but man – I'm not sure about another Indy movie. You can't improve on perfection. You can only muck it up. All that said, I'd pay double to see this flick and in the end, that's all anyone in Tinsel town cares about. :)
I meant 'that guy's', spelling po-po. Caught myself.
Peter, if somebody asks you to make GB3, you say YES!
Oh, and I love Ernie Hudson! Even if CNN doesn't give it, I will! That guys' an awesome actor!! Oz, anyone?
Bill, just say yes. Pretty please! Unless the script actually sucks, then say no. I'd rather have no Ghostbusters 3 if it's going to be lame. It won't be lame though, so say yes.
Remember the Statue of Liberty walking and busting up the slime dome over the museum? Is Sigourney Weaver going to be in it? I'm so excited.
So, where you from ... originally?
The stay puffed marshmallow man!
OMG this is my childhood. Squee!!!
I'm confused. Is the old geezer Bill Murray supposed to play one of the ghosts or Dr. Venkman? 22 years after the last rendition – please give it a rest and move on! Murray has to be what 80 years old?
If they assemble the old cast their gonna need an EMT on set.
I resent that. I'm the same age as him. You must be some snot-nosed kid.
You are fuuuuny!!!!!!
I think bill is 96 which is still young enough. Reagan was 103 when he was President and he acted like he was 125 years old. So go for it Billy Boy.
I agree with everyone else that rsents ure comment. U must b some snot-nosed kid because if u have a problem with bill murray, then u have a problem with "old" people as u called them such as Harrison Ford, Clint Eastwood, and Michael J. Fox! So, all I can tell u is shut ure mouth, before it gets slapped one day!!!
Bill Murray can pick and choose his movie roles now, or never star in them again, if he so chooses. It's never a good idea (to me, anyway) to resurrect a sequel 25 years later...the movie-going bunch nowadays don't really care and it's not worth it to make a movie that goes straight-to-video. The people I talked to about this would rather wait for the video anymore, so I think it wouldn't be worth the expense of making GB3. And it will be expensive; imagine the FX costs 25 years later!
But it would be cool!!!
If you thin GB3 would go "straight to video" then you possibly the dumbest m0f0 on the whole Internet.
I couldn't disagree more...people like me who don't typically go to the theatre WILL go see GB3 in 3D for the fun and novelty of it. And don't forget the tens of millions of baby boomer SNL fans who will go, not to mention the PG-13ers...GB3 would gross $100 without breaking a sweat, and double or triple that if it's actually good!
It is not Ghostbusters without Murray! I hope he will do it, I love Bill Murray :)
Ahhh come on Bill. Do it! You did Zombieland! Do GB3!!!!!
Bill Murray will not do this movie, ever. He has said time and time again in various interviews that he felt the first two should be left in the past. He is afraid GB3 will be bad and put a bad light on the first two. For him it's not worse the risk of shining a bad light on something that is looked at as very good meaning the first two movies. This will not happen, ever. He will stick to his guns and he is fine with not doing this movie. He knows it will be bad.
It wouldn't take much to be better than the second one.
@Pips LOL You beat me to it. If they can't make this one better than the second, they're in big trouble!
Well some things need to be left in the past.
Let's get Michael J. Fox to do another Back to the Future.
No love for Ernie Hudson. What the crap, CNN?
He was the black guy, what do you expect? (sarcasm)
Easily replaced with any other black actor, they all look the same you know?
...I'm not racist, but all the sarcasm here is quite amusing...
No love for Bobby Brown either!
Replace him with chris rock, no one will notice
He's the only ghostbusters that has no rights to the movie.
He found out all the Ghostbusters are actually Repubtards and Teabaggers, so he joined the Black Panthers.
I believe that's DOCTOR(!) Venkman. IMDB is pretty easy to use.
Exactly what are you a doctor of, DOCTOR Venkman?
It is Dr. Venkman,, please give him the respect he deserves
Yeah, back off man, he's a scientist.
@ Bert-Thank you!! I noticed that immediately!!
@ Kathy Thank you for that quote. genius!!
My favorite quote is from GBII-"You don't want my clients exposing themselves!!!"
Fav. quote from GB1... Dr. Venkman quickly removes the tablecloth... "and the flowers – are still – standing."
I also noticed they said Mr. Venkman, what's wrong with them...
PLEASE BILL, SAY YES!
This movie should have been done years ago. They're old, pudgy and Bill Murray has grown surly over the years. I can't even imagine them trying to run through the streets chasing ghosts. I loved the first one, was okay with the second one, but I think the third one won't be good. They waited too late.
Wow they have not even shot one foot of film and you are going to say it's not going to be good. How many books have to you read by looking at the cover BTW?
I have to agree. Sort of like them pushing Harrison Ford to keep playing Indiana Jones....even though he's almost 70. Even with that being said....I'd still go see it, just like I'll go and see every Indiana Jones movie they make. Even if it sucks.
I believe they are supposed to be mentors to a new team, or actually ghosts mentoring a new team.
Id bet a million dollars that they bring in that shia laboof guy like in indiana jones and completly ruin the franchise for me.... that kid is horrible..........
C'mon, Bill! Why not! It wouldn't be Ghostbusters without Peter Venkman! Ghostbusters I & II are movies that I never tire of, no matter how many times I have seen them! PLEASE do the movie!!!
Money..Money........Money.................................................. Bill knows he is the last hold out. He knows he holds the chips for the whole GB3 movie. He will hold out until they offer him enough money.
The reason he won't do it is because he has become too big. He's too big a name for GB3 now. Never mind that he's still the same un-talented hack he was his entre career. Anyone who knows comedy knows that the driving talent on SNL and in the first 2 GB's was Dan Aykroyd. Murray is a hack.
@Jim-Okay, whether you perfer Aykroyd over Murray, that's just opinion. But to call Murray a hack? That's like saying Caddyshack, Stripes, Ghostbusters 1+2, Meatballs, Tootsie, Scooged, What about Bob?, Little Shop of Horrors, Kingpin, Life Aquatic, Royal Tenenbaums, Rushmore, and Ed Wood were just happenstance. Face it, the guy has earned out respect over the years time and time again. He is lightning in a bottle even in smaller roles such as Zombieland and Get Smart. Great in kids stuff too i.e. Space Jam, Fantastic Mr. Fox and Osmosis Jones. It's no coincedence that he is still one of the most respected comedic actors after all these years.
Aykroyd on the other hand, has given us gems such as The Great Outdoors, Spies Like Us, Trading Places and Blues Brothers, but other than that has been hit or miss over the years. Unless you count Coneheads, Dragnet, and Blues Brothers 2000 as "successes". Oh, he was pretty good as Mack Sennett in Chaplin and as Grocer in Grosse Pointe Blank.
Well yes, GB3 should not exist without Bill Murary. But come on... even it's terrible, I would totally go see it. DO IT!
And that is why so many sequals are so thoroughly horrible.....people go see them even if they are bad just because they are a sequal to something they liked. How about this, instead of encouraging them to not even worry about having to try and make a good movie, we instead say "I will go see GB3, if it looks like they put in an effort and at least make it look like it might be good." I mean we can't say we will only see it if it is good, because we don't know until we see it, but if it looks like it will be horrible, then I am not wasting my time or money.
Woulda been better with John Belushi. I can almost see him doing that "jump and change direction in one spot" right now.
If Bill Murray did Zombieland, he should have no reason to do this movie.
He got to smoke pot in Zombieland though.
Murray's 'happy-go-lucky' facade is just that, a facade. In person, he's a pompous ass. I'd be surprised if he does it.
I'm sure if I met you, Tim, I'd go out of my way to be a pompous ass to you too. You sound like a d-bag.
Zombieland was hilarious. I agree with you though, Murray needs to do GB3.
I hate to say it, but he is a bit of a bitter man when you see him in person. I grew up by his house and bumped into him a few times. I would be bitter too if people were bothering me every place I went. I really hope he does ghostbusters III thought!
Not so. We have met him several years in a row at a charity golf and he is more than friendly and polite with polite fans.
I liked his cameo in Zombieland, but that's not the same thing as starring. Much different time commitment, more at stake, have to do a promo tour. If it sucks, it's on you. If Zombieland tanked nobody even remembers that he did it. And let's be honest; there's a better than even chance this thing will end up like a huge turd.
I know the others loved it, but one of those others said "Yes" to Yogi Bear in 3D, so take that with a grain of salt.
I would love to see a GB3 in 3D. It would be cool. It really is one of the few movies i would pay the 20 dollar plus price to see.
I would just like it to be funny. That would be nice. :)
WOW. Where do you live? We only pay $12 for 3D.
We only pay $9 here.
I would hardly call a city with a population over 100K a hick town.
With how many walmarts there are currently in the world I think you would have to be living in a hick town to not have on nearby
To DAVID: man, somone's a real d-bag!
I'm not paying 20 dollars to see a movie. Who has that kind of money to blow? No thank you.
David: you are a moron. Are you saying that the midwest doesnt have major cities?? Maybe you have heard of CHICAGO, MILWAUKEE, MINNEAPOLIS/ST. PAUL, ST. LOUIS....Alll signiicant;y better cities than whatever d-bag filled east coast city you are undoubtedly from.
wow you're getting ripped off, my hick town with a wal mart and theatre only charges $5, and $7 for 3D movies...LOL
Our hick town charges, uh, uh, uh....wait a minute, what's 3-D?
We have a dollar theater here as well, however they dont play 3D (yet) :(
Wow! Memphis, the home of the Blues, barbecue, Graceland, Fed-Ex, Stax-Volt, Holiday Inn, 7 colleges and Universities, 1 mill in population, etc., is a hick town. Who knew? Glad you cleared that up David. Next time I pay $9 for a movie I'll laugh about your paying $20 bucks to see Saw IX...
There were 4 Ghostbusters!!! Why they leave the black guy out of the article! Hmmmmmm!
It's $12 in Chicago. Does that count as a major citty?
You're all a bunch of peasants. I see films only at red carpet premiers where the only concessions are champagne and caviar... and I certainly do not wear those dreadful glasses.
I'm one of those people that can't really see the 3-D effects, and trying to watch a 3-D movie gives me a terrible headache. My dad's the same way, and while my mother can see the 3-D effects, she's never terribly impressed with them. When they come out with a movie we want to see that's in 3-D, we either wait for the movie to come out on DVD or see it in a theater that doesn't have 3-D... Personally, I'd rather just see my movies in 2-D so I can focus on the story, anyway.
Get on the horse Mr. Murry! I can't wait for Ghostbusters 3!!
I remember back when I was a kid (late '70- early '80s) Count Floyd was charging $18 for his 3D glasses to watch "monster Chiller Horror Theatre." Friggin' Canadians gotta overcharge for everything. Guessing that most of the cost was for taxes.
We still have a drive in opens again may
I sure hope they don't make it into 3d. It will make the movie into total Crap. Keep the grafixs the same.
* CAUTION * this is an ignorant person's question!. I wonder how much it costs if uh person lived on mars. To Whom it may concern-this is a bad joke. but still humorous.
Come on Bill...what's the problem?
Why would he turn down a sure thing?
Even Arnold took a walk on in The Expendables.
We just cross our eyes a little in a 2D theatre and watch 3D for cheap! :-D
Youre all missing the point... It's Bill Murray, who cares if you pay a lot or a little to go see his movies. He's a classic!
@Jen. $12 for 3d movie, where do YOU live!!??? Really I want to know because that's cheap.
Here's something that backs up @Elisabeth claim of $20 movie, article from Wall Street Journal
We don't pay anything here for 3D. We see the movies free as a benefit when we hold up the local movie theater.
Here in Austin, it's $12.50. And that's in one of the theaters that's considered one of the best in the country.
well dang...3D movies pay us $4 to watch them !
oy vay no bill murray
You tricked me! Damn it!
I knew exactly what you were going to say, Im a psychic.
HEY! There you are, get back in your cage!!!
The sad thing is this kid is most likely a product of the American public education system. Jump.
YAH IM BACK MY MOM LET ME TAKE SOME TIME OFF OF HOMESCHOOL SO FOR WINTER BREAK AND NOW IM BACK TO HAVEING TO HIT THE BOOKS
I hate texters who can't spell.
IM NOT TEXTING TARD IM TYPING AND WHEN I TEXT MY PHONE AUTO CORRELATES MY SPELLING SO WUT EVS
You have a phone that correlates? I know the newer phones CORRECT spelling errors while texting, but I was unaware that text needed to be correlated... YOU TARD!
Eat more Cheese Puffs quickly and expire before your next entry
Everyone responding to Cheefsfury...you are in the company of royalty!!
Ok, perhaps not, but seriously, this guy is on here every day...TYPING IN CAPS ALL THE TIME...unable to spell, use correct grammar, etc. It's becoming tiresome watching the same old routine from him, and could be a bit entertaining except that he always loses it and insults everyone who dares to point one of those issues to him. He cannot respond back any other way.
Since he is someone who can only communicate thru these types of events, then hopefully he understands that we all wish he'd d.i.a.f.
Who you gonna call?
Going back to home school??? Time to hit the books??? I would say that you need to lose the internet and hit the English books harder. Your spelling and grammar are horrible.
Then you better hit them harder... because it isn't working.
MYTHBUSTERS !!!! ......errrrr i mean GHOSTBUSTERS lol
