You would think that Oprah Winfrey would be delighted with how her brand-new network OWN took off in its debut week. It performed brilliantly out of the blocks on New Year’s Day.
But in an interview with "Showbiz Tonight," Oprah says she wants everyone to “calm down” and that it’s not time to do “the hula” yet! I think a lot of people are going to wonder why she seems, well, kind of worried! Oprah, I think you should feel excited.
I’ll have more of what she said on "Showbiz Tonight" today, but I have to ask you in our "Showbiz" Flashpoint: Should Oprah be worried about her new network's future? Post your comments below.
Another story I’ve got today on "Showbiz Tonight" is about the homeless man with the golden voice, who reunited with his mom in front of TV cameras!
See you on "Showbiz Tonight" live at 5 p.m. ET and again at 11 p.m. ET/PT on HLN today!

I think the ratings went down a lot because of the cable carriers. I've been trying to watch the network since it came on but after the first couple of days I couldn't get the channel on direct tv to watch. I had to call them several times and it still wouldn't come up on the guide. When I pressed the numbers in, it would skip from 278 to 280. So the media cannot judge on the ratings because I know I wasn't the only one this has happened to. So far I love a majority of the shows and plan to record them. The media is so ready to bash and look for the negative before even giving it a month. It's very rare that the media will do a story in a positive light. Brook Anderson says things in a very condescending way looking down on everybody she reports on like she's perfect. It's hard for me to watch showbiz tonight with her on there. Nobody is perfect but she comes off like she thinks she is.
She spoke negatively about celebs that lost weight fast after having a baby and twisted her story like they were sick and something is wrong w/ them but she did the same thing. So judgmental! I would respect her more if she reported real stories, even if it is just entertainment, with her real opinion not being fake.
Brook, make a statement don't just go along with what you think everybody at home wants to here just to be excepted you're on CNN. Take a lesson from Joy and Nancy. U are a women on that show for more than your looks take advantage of that.
Sorry but she irks me J. Anderson speak more positively about women than her. Watch OWN we will learn more on her channel than TLC! The Learning Network! They R a joke! I don't know what anybody is learning by Kate exploiting her children so she wont have to get a real job. Never got my rating to help pay for her plastic surgery and vacations.
NO! Oprah should NOT be worried... She's OPRAH..
I am thrilled at the possibility of pure, good television.
I know I will be watching :)
The only thing that bothers me about Oprah is she is a lesbian and won't admit it. And, I find her new network to be unrealistic and too goody goody two shoes!
Love the new network. I really enjoy the offerings, and I think she is right about her hope of it becoming like your favorite radio station - I can see that happening, on in the background while you go about your day. Thanks, Oprah, for the great inspiration!
Oprah is very smart and she knows how fickle the public can be, so of course she won't declare victory right out of the gate. She's gonna wait and see, like any seasoned veteran of the TV world would, if her network still has legs one year from now.
Then she'll be more confortable singing her own praises.
