Remember Britney Spears's 2004 "Everytime" video, which featured the singer seemingly committing suicide? Turns out the disturbing mini-drama was originally intended to be even more grim.

"There was an original video, too, which was a lot darker," Stephen Dorff, who played Spears's abusive boyfriend, tells MTV News. "It was, like, much more like a suicide-type video with pills and wine. It was a little dark, probably, for the fans. She originally died in the video, and then in this video she wakes up in the end."

Spears survives thanks to Dorff, who jumps fully clothed into a bathtub to save the drowning star.

"That was my idea," reveals the 37-year-old actor, who is currently earning raves in the Sofia Coppola drama "Somewhere." "I knew I had to save her in the bathtub, but it was my idea to go in with the shoes and the jeans and just kind of find her. First they had me change into my boxers. I was like, 'I don't think he has time. She's dying.' So I just go in."

Though he hasn't seen Spears in years, Dorff says he enjoyed working with the 29-year-old pop princess. "She was very nice. She thanked me for doing it early in the day," he says. "She was very sweet."

Justin Bieber has some seriously big plans for the new year.

"This year, I mean, I hope that I win a Grammy, 'cause I'm up for two," the teen idol tells MTV News. "So if I win a Grammy that would be awesome."

But even if he doesn't win, "I would still be happy because I was nominated, and that's pretty big in itself," says the Bieb, 16. "It's gonna be big. The Grammys are definitely something I've looked forward to, so this year's going to be definitely really big."

He's not kidding. Besides working on a new album, touring, spending time with 18-year-old Disney star Selena Gomez, and releasing his "Never Say Never Movie" – due in theaters next month – the very busy Bieber is gearing up to make a major life change: Getting rid of his famous shag.

The 16-year-old Canada native, who is already sporting slightly trimmed tresses, tells MTV, "I think after my movie I might cut my hair a little shorter."

After thousands of birds mysteriously fell out of the sky in Arkansas on New Year's Eve, it was only natural that Anderson Cooper turned to an expert for an explanation. Enter Kirk Cameron.

The former "Growing Pains" star — a born-again Christian who has appeared in movies based on the end-of-days-themed "Left Behind" books — appeared on "Anderson Cooper 360" to discuss whether he thought the dead birds were a sign of the apocalypse.

"Well, I first think that they ought to call a veterinarian, not me. You know, I'm not the religious-conspiracy-theorist go-to guy, particularly," Cameron said. "But I think it's really kind of silly to try to equate birds falling out of the sky with some kind of an end-times theory."

What exactly does one do upon being released from the Betty Ford Center after a court-ordered stay? Fair question, but what you should really be asking is: What would Lindsay Lohan do?

The 24-year-old star left the facility earlier this week, and reportedly one of the first things she did was head over to a posh hotel. RadarOnline posted video footage supposedly showing Lohan embracing her father and then her “Freaky Friday” co-star Jamie Lee Curtis at a Beverly Hills Four Seasons on Tuesday.

Apparently another item on Lohan’s “first hours of freedom” to-do list was prepping to move in next door to an ex – celebrity DJ Samantha Ronson.

When we last saw the Braverman clan, Sarah was busy dumping Boss Baldwin/Gordon (who had just dumped the company where Adam had worked for years); Grandpa Zeek shared a beer with the way underage Drew; and young Haddie had found a new boyfriend in Alex, the seemingly much older manager of the community food bank and a recovering alcoholic.

But when 'Parenthood' returned last night, Zeek and Drew opted to do some alcohol-free bonding by changing the oil in Zeek’s old tractor.  Sarah was really grateful that her dad was spending time with her son, and Drew told some guys at school about the Thanksgiving beer and how cool Zeek is.

But then the guys immediately invited themselves over and into Zeek’s stash. Zeek caught them but he didn't scream or yell; instead, he made it clear the boys need to clear out. He didn't even tell Sarah what happened. Drew ended up telling on himself, about the boys drinking and about Zeek giving him a beer.

My head is spinning today after hearing rumors that Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds are a couple!

I’ve barely wrapped my head around the fact Ryan split from Scarlett Johansson, but it seems like people are really rooting for Sandra and Ryan - even though Sandra's rep is denying that there's any romantic connection between the two.

“A group of old friends that included Ryan and Sandra, spent New Years together at Sandra's restaurant Bess Bistro," the rep told CNN. "They all had a great time ringing in the New Year as they have in the past...as nothing more than friends.”

Gwyneth Paltrow and Cee Lo are making beautiful music together.

As Marquee previously reported, Cee Lo hinted that he and the 38-year-old "Country Strong" star — who performed a cleaned-up version of his hit "F— You" on "Glee" in November — were collaborating on a hush-hush project. Now, the musician confirms that they actually re-recorded a new version of the popular song over the weekend.

"She sings like a natural," 36-year-old Cee Lo tells People.

In addition to recording a single, the twosome will team up again on "Saturday Night Live." Paltrow is set to host the January 15 show, with Cee Lo appearing as the musical guest.

After a first season that crossed the line right into cheesy-town on a couple of occasions, "V" was back Tuesday night, increasing the stakes and especially the creepiness.

It's hard to believe that the aliens were able to make such quick work of the world after just two months. For much of the first season, the populace seemed to be eating out of the palms of their hands, but not lately.

Anna, accused of starting to have human emotions, covered the earth with a "red sky," and we got a nice little fake-out in the first scene, with everyone on earth having passed out - of course, it was all just a dream of Erica's.

"American Idol" is getting a major face-lift. Besides new judges Jennifer Lopez and Steven Tyler, a slew of other changes are in store for the next season.

For starters, expect a fresh new set that will also show off new musical director Raymond Chew, according to the Hollywood Reporter.

As has been rumored, the elimination process will be much swifter, with the singing competition skipping the Top 24 and going directly to a Top 12 (or 15 – producers are still deciding). In addition to choosing their favorites via text, viewers will now be able to vote online as well.

Is there room for another dance show on TV?

One with a traveling "state-of-the-art dance dome" - open to everyone from your kids to your grandmother - as well as the former host of "Australian Idol," Andrew Gunsberg? And most importantly, one with (a thankfully-lucid) Paula Abdul?

After two hours of watching the premiere of CBS' new mega-hyped reality show "Live to Dance" Tuesday night, I found myself surprised to say... yes.
