As the third anniversary of Heath Ledger's shocking death approaches, Michelle Williams is finally speaking out about life after her partner's untimely passing.
Ledger, who was father to Williams's 5-year-old daughter Matilda, died of a drug overdose at age 28 in January 2008. The actress tells "Nightline" her first 12 months without him were most surreal.
"It didn't seem unlikely to me that he could walk through a door or could appear from behind a bush," explains Williams, who read Joan Didion's "The Year of Magical Thinking" following her loss. "It was a year of very magical thinking, and in some ways I'm sad to be moving further and further away from it."
The 30-year-old "Blue Valentine" star, who began her romance with Ledger while the two were filming 2005's "Brokeback Mountain," adds that she still hasn't quite come to terms with the tragedy.
"I can't find a meaning for it. I can find meanings in things and people and relationships that have sprung up, and friendships that have strengthened," she says. "I can find a lot of meaning in that, but not in why."
It has still not set in for all the fan's of his either, and I have been through so much saddness in my life it will get better but never all gone, there will be a day she and her daughter will want to share something with him then it hits them again he is gone. You will be ok and so will the little girl as long as she knows her father loved her and that is why he worked so hard was for her don't let her forget him Michelle.
My boyfriend died a yr ago time does not heal these wounds but the thought they r in a better place takes some of the sting away
That's sad and I honestly don't know what to say on something like this. My sister-in-law just found out she has cancer and its hard on everyone. Its not easy.
I think she probably has a lot of (unjustified) guilt too. Although the story says 'her partner' they were no longer together. I think people often think they may have been able to change the outcome if they had been present and it leaves them with survivor's guilt. In time that should lessen as reality really sets in. Been there, done that.
Poor thing. What's worse is the fact that their child will grow up without a Father. There's simply no replacement. Stay strong, Michelle. For your daughter, and for your family. Things will get better over time. You'll see. Happy Holidays.
