Leighton Meester may be known for playing Upper East Side schemer Blair Waldorf on the CW’s “Gossip Girl,” but the 24-year-old actress had to rustle up some country charm for her role in the upcoming movie, “Country Strong.”
Meester stars alongside Gwyneth Paltrow in the film about a rehabilitating country singer (Paltrow) who’s trying to make a comeback amidst the competition: Meester’s Chiles Stanton.
In order to get a little bit country, Meester - who has showcased her vocal talents on songs like "Somebody to Love" – turned to some of the genre's top sellers.
“I saw these great performances like Taylor Swift and Carrie Underwood…they are sort of the same type of music that my character sings so I was looking to that set of country stars,” Meester told CNN.
But it sounds like her wardrobe didn’t head in a similar direction. “She's got big hair, big eyelashes, acrylic nails, lip liner, blue leather dresses,” the actress told E! of her character. “It was a lot of fun. It was like playing dress up Country Barbie."
As for playing Blair Waldorf, Meester also let it slip that she plans on walking in those designer heels for just two more years, at which point her contract with the soapy drama will be up.
Meester said she didn't know if the show would also end around that time, but she did reference an “old saying about wanting to go out on top."
"Country Strong" debuts in theaters January 7, and "Gossip Girl" returns to the CW on January 24.
