So far, the new album by rapper Soulja Boy hasn’t exactly been able to “crank dat.” MTV reports that “DeAndre Way” sold only 13,000 copies in its debut week.
Soulja Boy, whose real name is DeAndre Way, has had greater success in the past, having broken onto the music scene in 2007 with the hit single "Crank Dat (Soulja Boy)."
A Billboard feature about the rapper reported that the single was the 14th-best-selling digital song of all time with 4.6 million copies sold, according to Nielsen SoundScan. He also found success in 2009 with the singles "Kiss Me Thru the Phone" and "Turn My Swag On."
It could be that fans prefer Soulja Boy in smaller doses. Billboard reports that “Pretty Boy Swag,” the first single off his new album, has sold more than 500,000 copies.
