Helen Mirren: The way I look is irrelevantHalle Berry may have thought she was paying Helen Mirren a compliment when she called her "hot" at the Hollywood Reporter's December 7 Women in Entertainment breakfast, but her words might have left "The Tempest" star steaming. Presenting the 65-year-old actress with the Sherry Lansing Leadership Award, Berry told her, "Helen, you have single-handedly, all by yourself, broken down that barrier because you can age, you can do films that are successful, and you can still be hot as hell!" So what's the problem? "The Queen" star says she hates being hailed for her appearance. "We have to let go of this crap," Mirren tells the Hollywood Reporter, admitting that she feels "cross" when the media focuses on her sex appeal. Elle Fanning: Sister Dakota's 'proud of me'There's no sibling rivalry between Dakota Fanning and her kid sister Elle. Though 12-year-old Elle has been generating lots of buzz around Hollywood for her role as the daughter of a hard-living actor in the upcoming drama "Somewhere," Dakota, 16, couldn't be happier that her sister's star is on the rise. "She's really proud of me and I'm really proud of her, and we go and visit each other on sets," Elle tells CNN of her relationship with "The Runaways" star. More changes may be in store for 'American Idol'Looks like “American Idol” may be trying to kick things up a few more notches. According to “The Hollywood Reporter,” producers are considering several ideas for the upcoming season, including possibly having the Top 12 contestants live together in a house in the Hollywood Hills. No word yet on whether the show will feature behind-the-scenes footage of the Top 12 in their communal home. Said contestants may also be more accessible to fans via social networking. Last season’s group started out the season on Twitter, but those individual accounts were eventually discarded for a main, show account. Jack Black, Jason Segel get animated for holidaysJack Black and Jason Segel are getting quite animated this holiday – in every sense of the word. The funnymen are starring in a new cartoon in which they duet on the 1977 Bing Crosby/David Bowie classic, "Peace on Earth/Little Drummer Boy." The tuneful toon, which appears on CollegeHumor.com, opens with fretful "How I Met Your Mother" star Segel, 30, heading over to Black's house because he needs more ginger for the cookies he's baking. Facing foreclosure? Call Will.i.am!In an effort to fight his country’s current housing crisis, Will.i.am is taking the matter into his own hands. In an interview with U.K. newspaper “The Sun,” the Black Eyed Peas frontman, born William Adams, talked about his mortgage relief program called "i.am.home." “I rescue families who are losing their homes because they have no jobs and they can’t pay the mortgage and the banks are foreclosing on their homes,” said the artist, who purchased a new home for his grandmother in 2009. “All the people we help are debt free, they don’t have to pay me back.” 'Showbiz Tonight' Flashpoint: Helen Mirren slams HollywoodHelen Mirren may be the Grand Dame of Hollywood and abroad, but she had some harsh words for the industry at the Hollywood Reporter’s Women in Entertainment Breakfast. Mirren told the audience that not much has changed during her long career in Hollywood, saying “filmmaking…continues to worship at the altar of the 18-to-25-year-old male and his penis…quite small, I always think.” Pretty provocative! I have to say, I really admire Helen Mirren for calling it like she sees it! And speaking of provocative, "Showbiz Tonight" has named Lady Gaga the Most Provocative Celebrity of the Year! So what do YOU think? Did we get it right? Post your opinions here, and you can also call me at "Showbiz On Call" –- 888-SBT-BUZZ - and let me know what you think. We’ll use some of your calls and posts on the show today at 5 p.m. and 11 p.m. ET/PT. Debbie Reynolds wanted Carrie Fisher and husband to have babiesDebbie Reynolds just knew husband Richard Hamlett would make some beautiful babies – not with her, but with her daughter Carrie Fisher! At the December 7 Hollywood premiere of "Wishful Drinking," the HBO film based on Fisher's autobiographical one-woman show, movie legend Reynolds admitted to CNN that she once suggested that Hamlett and the "Star Wars" star should have a child together. "He was very attractive and he had blue eyes, and I thought it would work out," Reynolds tells CNN of husband number three, whom she was married to from 1984-1996. "[Carrie] was so young!" Here's to a 'Glee'-ful holiday seasonYes Brittany, there is a Santa Claus. How incredibly sweet was Tuesday night’s episode of “Glee”? The holidays are all about believing in magic, and that’s just what the show was this time around. From Sue’s Grinch right on through to Beiste’s Santa, it was all types of adorable. Will was still sad that Emma's married and declined her offer to come to her and the hubby’s Christmas Eve party. Good for you Mr. Schue, because spending that day with the woman you love and her new dude would be AWKWARD. Katy Perry's taking Russell Brand's nameKaty Perry is branding herself with a new moniker and changing her name to Katy Brand. On today's episode of the "Ellen DeGeneres Show," the quirky 26-year-old singer, who married British comic Russell Brand in India in October, revealed that she is taking her husband's last name. In fact, Perry tells DeGeneres, she has already grown accustomed to being called "Mrs. Brand." Obsessions: Loving to hate Bristol PalinWhen it comes to Bristol Palin, folks are drinking gallons of the Haterade. The younger Palin appears to be well on her way to becoming almost as big a lightening rod as her political mother, despite never having run for office herself. She's been criticized for everything from her romantic choices to her skills - or lack thereof - on “Dancing with the Stars," which she didn't even win, by the way. There's even been conspiracy theories surrounding her participation in the show (allegedly Mommy made her do it!) and the voters who kept her in the running right up to the finals (allegedly some swift dialing Tea Party members!). You know things are bad when former "American Idol" contestant, Sanjaya, has to come to your defense. |
