On Wednesday night's "Modern Family," it was Manny's birthday and he could cry if he wanted to because a remark from Jay had him thinking that he'd never truly had a childhood.
So the always mature Manny experiences something of a mid-life crisis. In a panic, he tried a prank call, but that didn't work out, and he lamented that he had never tried mixing different soft drink flavors.
Jay had also given Manny a BB gun, which ended up in Gloria's hands, a hilarious development to say the least.
As for the other members of the family, we saw them on the way to Manny's party (a very "Seinfeld" idea, but it worked). Phil and the girls took on Claire and Luke in a race when Phil realized that his daughters had outgrown him and Claire realized that Luke didn't see her as a "fun parent."
Much of this subplot didn't really work for me, except for the talk of "Family Camp" (Phil made an unfortunate choice of a t-shirt for the camp's "white team") and this one-liner of the week when Phil missed a stop sign: "I'll stop twice on the way back."
Mitchell and Cam, on the other hand, were in rare form, with Mitchell in a hurry and Cam insisting that they stop to "experience life," including accidentally helping an old man cheat on his wife.
The highlight of the episode by far though was Mitchell's surprise involvement in a "Free Your Mind" flash mob (that song is really making a comeback after last week's "Glee"). Jesse Tyler Ferguson gets this week's MVP award for that dance routine alone.
Were you blown away by Ferguson's dancing as well (it could certainly boost his bid to host the Tony Awards)? Do you agree that the rest of the episode didn't quite measure up to that scene? CNN iReporter Kathi Cordsen weighed in and you can too here, or in the comments below.
