Suddenly that dollar sign in Ke$ha's name makes sense. In a hilarious new video for Funny or Die, the pop star reveals that a typo was behind her moneyed moniker.
"I used to be Kesha with an S, instead of a dollar sign, and then one year I had my birthday party at Shakey's Pizza," the misty-eyed "Tik Tok" singer explains in the tongue-in-cheek video. "On the sign - the big sign where they write 'Happy Birthday' - they replaced the S with a dollar sign."
A Shakey's employee then confirms the traumatic incident. "Yeah, I remember that day," he recalls. "We had a special going on sausage, salami, and sun-dried tomatoes pizza so we were just all out of S's."
It turns out that anything written on a restaurant sign becomes legally binding, and as a result of the mishap, Ke$ha had no choice but to go into show business.
"I wanted to be a CPA," says the 23-year-old, born Kesha Rose Sebert. "But you know who H&R Block doesn't hire? People with dollar signs in their name."
The clip ends with Ke$ha plotting to reclaim her "S" – but will her plan work? Watch the video to find out.
