The show must go on! That's the stance the Disney Channel is taking as "Sonny With a Chance" star Demi Lovato continues to seek treatment for emotional and physical issues.
Entertainment Weekly confirms a report in Variety that the network is tweaking the teen series so that its focus will be on the variety-show-within-the-show "So Random!"
Under the new format, which will begin shooting with or without Lovato in January, the episodes will feature guest stars as well as music and comedy sketches.
“This allows her the time she needs to get well, without distraction or pressure,” a Disney Channel spokeswoman said of the show's 18-year-old star, who checked into a treatment center earlier this month. "Again, we extend our ongoing support to Demi and her family as she works to overcome personal issues.”
Last week, a rep for Lovato told CNN that recent reports that the singer was struggling with drugs and alcohol were completely false.
"Demi Lovato is not in treatment for drug or alcohol addiction," said the rep. "As we have said since she entered treatment last week, Demi decided to seek help for emotional and physical issues she has battled throughout her life. She has taken this step in order to get her life in order."
