According to Dwight Schrute, "Glee" is a ridiculous premise for a show. "Thirst - now there's a show I'd watch."
Dwight was invited, along with the rest of the employees of Dunder Mifflin, to a "Glee" viewing party at Gabe's house on Thursday night's episode of "The Office." Since Gabe is new, tall and awkward, his girlfriend Erin hoped that this would help him be more liked around the office. Whenever the show goes into someone's home, it's usually always a winner, and the cast's varying reactions to "Glee" were an added bonus.
Gabe, Erin and Kevin certainly count as the Gleeks of the office, while Kelly, who thinks the show is ridiculous, can't stop talking about it: "What was with Jesse's sudden turn on Rachel between 'Dream On' and 'Funk'? Honestly, that show - it's irresponsible."
Meanwhile, Phyllis just tried to get into it, asking, "Which one is Glee?"
Of course, all the attention afforded to Gabe - whom Michael likes only slightly more than Toby - was too much to handle. He decided to go into a bedroom instead where all the "real Gleeks" could have the real viewing party. Only Dwight showed up (in order to rat out the others who didn't come), as well as Pam and Jim, dealing with their crying baby. It turned out that Dwight is quite the baby whisperer, due to the Schrute policy on letting the youngest be in charge of the others: "I've been raising children since I was a baby." Suddenly, Jim and Pam were his best friends.
And if you thought Michael was having a hard time, the jealous Andy loses it so badly that he eats powdered seahorses and gets sick.
Michael's second course of action was to cut off the cable, causing the Gleeks to miss their show. Kelly and the rest provided updates: "They sung 'Blinded by the Light' with an actual blind guy!" "Puck and Finn worked it out and the solo is now a duet."
When Erin discovered Michael's sabotage, we discovered that she really wanted Michael to like Gabe, because she quite literally sees Michael as a father figure. (Michael obliged by telling her to go to her room.) It will be interesting to see what happens if Erin finally gets back together with Andy, and how Gabe and Michael react.
"The Office" is on the upswing this season, and what could have been a gimmicky episode actually advanced the plot quite well, and it even included some of the best Dwight and Jim moments in years (Jim being forced to feed and "beer" Dwight, for example).
What did you think of the "Glee" viewing party, and this season as a whole? Are you enjoying Gabe and Erin, or are you as impatient as I am to see her back with Andy? Have you ever wanted to eat pigs in a blanket, while in a blanket? Share your iReport video reaction or comment below.
I am just as impatient waiting for Erin and Andy to get back together! I think Gabe is weird and not nearly as cute as Andy. When the season began and we saw Andy at Erin's desk talking to her and then Gabe walked in and kissed her I was shocked. Last season I thought Andy and Erin would become a serious item for sure. I think they should write in Gabe's revelation that he is gay and then he can get a boyfriend.
As far as the storylines go, they are still pretty good but not like old times. I miss Jim and Pam's antics before they had a baby to wear them out all the time. And I think it's about time that Michael had a little happiness. I was hoping when they put him in contact with Holly somehow they would get back together.
i wish i could do that
sit there and watch people watch me watching people sing and dance
I thought the episode last night was great. I have been a little disappointed with the past couple of seasons, but I am such a huge fan I going to stick it out because I have faith! It made me laugh when the article said that Michael likes Gabe only slightly more than Toby!
Any one else think Erin really is Micheal's daughter? I mean she was an orphan, and has a weird need for his approval.
Angie, that thought crossed my mind during the father scene!
This season has been terrible. Instead of good story ideas, they just keep throwing michael into uncomfortable, unfunny conflicts. I figure this is leading to his inevitable exit, but it just doesn't make for funny tv. I have thought the show was really funny in past seasons, but now it's just boring. I'd much rather watch 30 rock.
My girlfriend is a Gleek but I have to say both of these shows make me glad I just bought a Nook.
I wish I would have been around at the beginning. I just started watching the office last season. Luckily Fox and netflix have my back. I will be a full Office-holic in no time.
The office is on NBC not FOX
@deepa – sndication on fox where most people have caught on and caught up
The three to five second moment before Michael tells Erin to go to her room, absolutely had me breathless. The look on Erin's face when Michael said that he wasn't her father, just tore me up. This was an incredibly funny, very "Office" episode, but those three to five seconds made the entire episode to me. I agree that they are on the upswing this season. I don't think last season was bad by any stretch of the imagination, but it's always good to see some of those familiar writer's names on the credits.
I love the Office! Steve Carrell is hilarious.
