Leo DiCaprio will kill in 'Devil in the White City'

Leonardo DiCaprio has landed himself a killer new role - the actor will portray a murderer in the upcoming movie adaptation of the New York Times best-seller, "The Devil in the White City," according to the Hollywood Reporter.

Set during the 1893 Chicago World's Fair, the film - which DiCaprio will also produce - focuses on fair architect Daniel H. Burnham and H.H. Holmes, a serial killer who was said to be the mastermind behind a series of murders that took place around the time of the event.

A charming man masquerading as a doctor, Holmes created and erected the World's Fair Hotel, which he used to lure in his many victims, whose body count was estimated between 27 to 200, reports Deadline.com. Holmes's hotel included a gas chamber, crematorium, and a dissecting table where he would strip skeletons and sell parts for scientific study.

Besides "Devil," DiCaprio is also the favorite to play Jay Gatsby in Baz Luhrman's upcoming telling of "The Great Gatsby."

While Tobey Maguire is rumored for the role of Nick Carraway, Luhrman has yet to pick his Daisy Buchanan. Though "The Town" star Rebecca Hall reportedly has read for the part, a host of other actresses are also under consideration, including Natalie Portman, Keira Knightley, Amanda Seyfried, Blake Lively, Abbie Cornish, Michelle Williams and Scarlett Johansson.

Interesting comeback. Many actors produce their movies. Tom Hanks is one, and I don't think you would say the same things about him. Why is that? Because Leo is a "pretty boy?" I think that's why he has been doing movies like this and Shutter Island lately, to get away from that image. But maybe you would say the same thing about other actors who act and produce? Only you know that. I just don't understand why you're attacking someone for expanding their talents.

I realize gruesome, psychopathic, serial killer stories spark the morbid curiosity in many of us. Are we that curious that we are willing to pay to see a hollywoodized version of the event? I think there are enough current atrocities to be curious about. We need some uplifting and happy sotries. Unfortunately they don't alway make a good movie, (or at least the hope of a good movie). And is hollywood to soley to blame? No, but partly. They are producing what they concieve as what the public wants or is at least willing to pay to see. Is it?

I was just looking at this book on my shelf the other day and left it there because it was kind of gruesome...but good! I only got halfway through it though but I think I'll finish it. Never thought a movie would be made of it!! That's great and with Leo in it and producing well that'll be something to watch! He's a great actor; didn't really take to him in the beginning of his career but he's had some very strong roles and was very good in "Catch me if you can" and other roles so I'll be watching this one.
