Film adaptation of 'Thriller' in the works?

With all of the zombies and werewolves in Michael Jackson's "Thriller" video, it certainly wouldn't look out of place in today's cineplex.

According to, the late superstar's estate is in negotiations to turn his spooky classic into a movie.

Kenny Ortega, who directed Jackson's 2009 posthumous tour film "This Is It", is set to helm the project, while "Hangover" writer Jeremy Garelick is expected to pen the script.

Though plot details are hush-hush, reports that the movie will likely be based on the hit 1984 song's scary folklore, including late horror master Vincent Price – who narrated the tune – and the town he grew up in.

Jackson's 14-minute "Thriller" video, released in December 1983, famously featured the singer transforming into a werewolf as well as a zombie who dances among the undead. In January 2010, it became the first music video to be inducted into the National Film Registry of the Library of Congress.

The Michael Jackson Thriller video is one of the most famous video clips of all time. That single film clip changed the way film clips were both produced and viewed. A 14 minute video clip was unheard of for the time and it set the world records for "Most Successul Music Video". Thriller was seen as a mini-movie and completely different from the "band standing in front of a camera playing their song" type of film clip. It was the first of many video clips that Michael Jackson would produce that were spectacular in their production. ..

I had heard Jackson was going to do something with combining the ideas in Thriller and another video he did called Ghosts. But, I'm not sure he was talking about a full length movie. Ortega should know though.

Kenny Ortega should be more concerned with the law suit filed against him, Phillips and AEG by Michael's mother for hiring Murray to "care for" Michael. If it were not for AEG and the whole lot of them, Michael would still be with us today, and as for making his short film classic, Thriller, into a movie, Michael Jackson would not approva. They just can't stop til WE'VE had enough!

Ok, I love Thriller, but to turn it into a movie i think is taking it too far. Why is it necessary? Why do good things always need to be turned into a movie? Enough is enough.

Thriller 2! This Is It! Michael is very much alive and this is going to be the greatest comeback of all time! We are now living in the sequel of Michael Jackson's Ghosts. We are all part of it and all trapped by it.

Amazing! People are still profiting off MJ's name. When he was still with us, where were all these people? I love anything Michael, but at what cost? Will Michael's image be used, his dance, his singing? This one makes me nervous and I am not sure why. Why doesn't someone do an expose' on Evan Chandler and Janet Arvizo and their greed and the tabloid media. It would be nice to get the truth out there about the real Michael – a loving, kind, generous humanitarian and wonderful father, son and friend? If someone wants to do Michael justice, this would be the way to go. It's time the media and the crooks were held responsible. Rest in Peace dear Michael

Spectacular idea, according to Ortega is was MJ himself who conceived of doing this. Can't wait to see the finished product.

It sucks that they will do this since MJ is no longer here but if MJ was here he would do it and make it better then they would but they better do it justice because THRILLER is awesome. r.i.p. MJ

I agree it's sad that their doing the movie now that MJ is gone. I actually hope they don't turn it into a movie! The original video was a masterpiece and should be left alone.
