Russell Brand and Katy Perry wed in India

He kissed a girl - and made it official. Comedian Russell Brand and singer Katy Perry became man and wife in a traditional Indian-themed wedding over the weekend.

The quirky duo exchanged vows on Saturday night at the Aman-i-Khas luxury resort in Rajastan, India, where Brand, 35, proposed to Perry - who was born Katy Hudson and turns 26 today - last New Year's Eve.

A rep for the couple confirms to CNN, "The very private and spiritual ceremony, attended by the couples' closest family and friends, was performed by a Christian minister and longtime friend of the Hudson Family. The backdrop was the inspirational and majestic countryside of Northern India."

In keeping with tradition, Brand arrived via elephant to the wedding site, where he greeted his bride, who, Us Weekly reports, wore a dove gray Elie Saab gown.

After the newlyweds sealed the deal, cheering, chanting, and Rajasthani folk music could be heard throughout the resort, according to People.

I don't know why I even get on these sites. Talk about a bunch of idiots. Thank God at least someone knew sarcasm when they heard it. Literate people like to hear opposing views. I guess that leaves most of you out.

I think the fact that they had a normal, private wedding without all the Hollywood trappings shows that they are going into the marriage as two level-headed people with realistic expectations. I hope they make it in the long run. The press is undoubtedly going to be hounding them.

Carol, have you heard of 'scorched earth' war tactics? These have been used against innocent people by Christians and Muslims throughout hte ages. India has one of the most peaceful historical heritages -despite being attached by the Kubla Khans and then ruled by the British for around 200 years (where by the way, incidents of General Dyer, a Christian ordering the massacre of a peaceful rally of women, children and men were far too common), the way India got her freedom from Britian is not through violence but non-violence. In very recent times, some people have done acts which are clearly not in line with Hinduism but then this is kali yug (the 4th and last stage of life on Earth) which is to be characterized by chaos, leadership and rule by fools and tyrants (Bush and Gadaffi?), normal human beings indulging in unimaginable cruelty (Concentration camps by Nazis and the British in the Boer wars)...

We live in a country of 'sheep' who are more than happy being TOLD WHAT TO DO, rather than actually engaging the grey matter that still manages to reside in the head that sits on the shoulders. The only times ppl. seem to slightly use their heads is if it involves the realllllly little one, just barely dangling btw. their legs. • Really?

Public displays of affection are considered impolite in lots of countries, not just in India. But what does this have to do with their marriage!?! Does the geographic location of a kiss determine the strength of a relationship? Just out of curiosity, what's the divorce rate in America? Not 100% sure but I think PDA is pretty big here...just saying.

Goodness, she's wearing A LOT of make-up in that picture. Whenever singers get married or have children, their record sales usually drop significantly. Look at Christina Aguilera. She's trying to re-invent herself at the wrong time. Lady Gaga has already cornered the market on what Christina's trying to do. Actually, Gaga has made most pop stars completely irrelevant in terms of style and performance quality.

Instead of this, you can say that India is a secular country. It is only in India that Christian missionaries can go freely and convert people. Even the woman at the helm of affairs Sonia Gandhi is a Christian. It happens only in India. You would never accept a Hindu at the top. Even Bobby Jindal had to convert to christianity to be accepted by people.

Most of us unlike you people have knelt and prayed to other Religion's God unlike Christians who do not think that Any1 except for Jesus is God.. India is a secular country, and the only one in that entire region that allows all religions to practise their religion freely. It is the most religiously diverse country in the world. That is why there are practising Hindus, Muslims, Christians, Jews, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Zorashtrians, etc... And Hindus believe it is a sin to convert other religions to their faith. So have some common decency before you go defaming whole races, religions and peoples.
