Kanye West: What's the Illuminati?Kanye West is having a devil of a time convincing critics that he's not a Satan worshiper. The hip-hop star took to Twitter yesterday to deny claims that his new short film "Runaway" contains references to the occult and the Illuminati, a secret society thought to control world events. In fact, MTV reports, West claims he doesn't even know what the Illuminati is! "Is Illuminati and devil worshiping like the same thing?" tweeted West, whose video shows people marching in hoods and model Selita Ebanks as a sexy phoenix. West goes on to have fun with the rumors. "What's better for devil worshiping, Iphone or the Droid?" he asks. "Does Lucifer return text... is he or she on Skype? Don't wanna be sexist." This isn't the first time West has been accused of turning to the dark side. He created a stir last year after spitting out the freestyle verse, "I sold my soul to the devil," and also sparked rumors with his Jay-Z/Rihanna collaboration, "Run This Town." In the video for the song, the trio perform in front of an angry mob and appear to overthrow the order of things. For his part, Jay-Z, who has also faced numerous Illuminati accusations because of alleged occult imagery in his videos and Rocawear clothing designs, denies having a deal with the devil. "As far as God, of course I believe in God," he told radio DJ Angie Martinez of Hot 97 in New York City. "Am I a part of some sect or cult? That sounds stupid to me. It’s like ignorant to even say, and umm… I guess that’ll be the last time I address that. It’s ignorant to me.” |

I'm not a Kanye fan, but don't hate him either. I do find it funny that almost ALL of you here seem to be missing his sarcasm. He may have been serious in wondering if the "illuminati was related to devil worship"...not sure if that's clear to the entire world. But if you continued to READ, everything else was an attempt to be funny or sarcastic. I can't be the only one to notice that!?!! What gets me on this entire post – is that he could have looked it up. There is enough written information on what the Illuminati is really all about – and that for the most part, its NON existent. Seriously? The Masons are a fraternity of men, dedicated to making good men better. We enjoy friendship and comradery from meeting with other men of like mind. We are not political and endorse no religeon. We only require that a man, and in some jurisdictions a woman, profess a belief in a diety (any diety) as a requirement for becoming a Mason. We do not let everyone in. That cuts down on crackpots and kooks who are attracted to the conspiracy theories. My Mosonic Lodge meets twice a month, seek opportunities for benevolence to members and to the community, conduct our business, then enjoy a snack and a game of dominoes. Pretty scary, huh?

As for Robert's reply, just what does a deity have to do with being accepted...does that mean that you just have to believe in fairy tales to show the other's you have the ability to believe in stuff you can't scientifically prove? I always find it fascinating that people complain to no end about how judgmental the religious types are–yet, they make statements like jfwilder's up there.
There's no question that there are plenty of judgmental religious types, but I've never called an atheist an idiot for not believing the same thing I do. Why does it bother you so much that I like the fact that I have a "crutch" that helps me feel better when bad stuff happens and a "crutch" to thank when good things happen. You're not hurting me with your atheism, so why does my religious belief (I don't claim any specific religion because a lot of concepts make sense to me) bother you so much?
P.S. Believing in a deity has something to do with being accepted in the Masons because that's one of their rules for joining. Why is that concept so complicated to understand? If you don't want to believe, you don't join. You wouldn't want to be associated with those pansy, fairy-tale-believing types anyway, now would you?
