James Cameron: Jolie as Cleopatra 'sounds hot'

Add James Cameron to the list of people pulling for Angelina Jolie to star as Cleopatra.

The "Avatar" director told the New York Times that he’s been in talks to work on the film, which reportedly would be a vehicle for the Oscar winning actress. Cameron said the subject has always fascinated him and the choice of Jolie to play the Egyptian queen  “sounds hot.”

“I mean, Angelina Jolie and Cleopatra? To me, that’s like a slam dunk,” Cameron said. “Whether I wind up doing it or not, I think it’s going to be a great project.”

Reports that the biopic may be filmed in 3-D were better received than the initial news that Jolie would play Cleopatra, which led to an outcry that Hollywood has consistently bypassed casting an actress of color in the role.

Come on now. Aren't there any other actors beside Jolie. Tired of seeing that old body and she is all about make out scenes. Funny Brad Pitt is not allowed to have roles where he makes out with someone.

Yeah! charliebauer honey, it was not the stupidest thing you ever read. Either you just did not understand what I meant or you just don't want to understand what I said because it's easy for you to criticize the whites for everything. I am sure there are some Blacks who can afford to produce and direct a version of Cleopatra and bring it to the market. Until then we will see whose movie is more appealing to the public. Compete don't criticize.

Black folks give it up......Cleopatra was of Greek descent, not African! In other words, a white woman with dark hair and with a tan!

I am tired of these people complaining about being tired of whites portraying black. If you think Cleopatra is black then there is a simple solution. In your black society, make your own version of Cleopatra which produce, direct and the casts by blacks. This is a white version and interpretation of Cleopatra which produce and direct by whites. They can pick whomever they want to cast as Cleo. It's their money not yours because they cannot count on you for watching it. Enough already for blaming the whites. This is America, you have the freedom to make your own version of Cleo.

I think Beyonce or Halle Berry would be better cast in this role instead of Jolie. There are plenty of other beautiful female actresses to choose from besides Jolie.

Well if she's casted I won't be going to the movies or purchasing the dvd........PERIOD, bad role model and bad actress, skinny, ugly, but cast another married man in the movie and Brad can move on ~ let him reap what he's sowed

Boring! Please are there no other actresses out there who can play this role. Just because someone looks like the role, doesn't mean they are the best person for it. Did you see Alexander, she was terrible. Big mistake. Yeah it'll make him another gazillion dollars, but it won't be from me. I'm personally ready for some fresh new faces. Come on Hollywood, give someone else a chance.

I am SO TIRED of Angelina. She has to steal every "strong woman" role! Angie as Cleo? Angelina relies on using her beauty and her various tricks (playing with her mouth, etc) to create a smokescreen. Why? Because she can't act. Need I REMIND everybody of the TRAVESTY known as Alexander? Cleopatra deserves a multi-dimensional interpretation, and an actor talented enough to pull it off. We need the female Daniel-Day-Lewis for this role, not the female Stephen Segal. This woman cannot act. Sure, she can flail around with guns (that she wouldn't be able to lift and load in real life, btw) and mess with her lips, but that's not acting. Her accents are literally atrocious. Critics of this POV cite her British accent: ask any Brit what they think of her accent, and they will laugh. She is beyond terrible. I think there is a wealth of untapped talent that's not being used because Miss "Lara Salt Smith: Wanted in Sixty Seconds" can't function without being the center of attention all the time. She's compulsive liar to boot, and people always say she's a "strong role model" for women–just because they're sidetracked by the fact she's an action star. She weighs barely 100 lbs. I hate to bust bubbles, but there's a reason she's notorious for fainting after filming action sequences: because her body can't actually perform like an action hero. I'm a gun person, and in her interviews she brags about all her guns, drops a few names, and expects people to not know what they are or know what the rules are. many of the guns she has mentioned are illegal and can only be obtained through the black market (some humanitarian) which are notorious for funding terror. Let's say she actually owns these guns: she wouldn't be able to lift them and load them, let alone hold them up long enough to shoot them. Stop casting her in good movies and stick her bony ass in twilight, where it belongs.

History tells that Cleopatra was NOT a beautiful woman. If they want it to be a good movie, they should stick closer to history for it to believable.

She was a member of the Ptolemaic dynasty, and therefore a descendant of one of Alexander the Great's generals who had seized control over Egypt after Alexander's death...which made her Greek. People need to educate themselves.

  15. Again

Cleopatra" is Greek for "father's glory," and her full name, "Cleopatra Thea Philopator," means "the Goddess Cleopatra, Beloved of Her Father." She was the third daughter of Ptolemy XII of Egypt, a Greek born in Alexandria, Egypt. She was first briefly co-ruler with her father, Ptolemy XII Auletes and on his death became co-ruler with her brother Ptolemy XIII in the spring of 51 B.C.E. She was at that time the oldest child of Auletes, since two older sisters had died.

( she was still a woman of color) !!!

People need to stop fixating on the race/skin color of the actor chosen. If we went by those standards, Kim Kardashian would be perfect. Producers need to focus on an actor who can give this iconic character real dimension and real complexity.

  19. Get a Clue

Cleopatra was a GREEK woman, she was not BLACK! and what do GREEK women look like? Well they have olive skin, dark long hair, hmmmm, sounds like Angelina! I wish all these people pushing for a woman of Color to play the role of Cleopatra would get a clue and maybe take some history classes, because it is not at all out of the question for a woman like Angelina Jolie to play the role. I'm not even a fan of her, but looks wise, she fits the part.

I think Catherine Zeta-Jones would be a great choice. The first time I saw "The Mask of Zorro" I really thought she was Spanish because her accent was so much like Antonio Banderas. Her American accent is just as good (she is actually Welsh). I think she would be a very convincing Cleopatra.

Cleopatra was a Ptolemy, a family that came from Greece and were put on the throne of Egypt as puppet rulers by the Romans. Therefore, Cleopatra was Greek, not Egyptian or any African race. This is a fact; anyone who doesn't believe it should do their homework.
