It was ladies night at Saturday’s BET Hip-Hop Awards in Atlanta, and Nicki Minaj went home with her hands full.
Along with Warren Buffett’s new best friend, Jay-Z, everybody’s favorite femcee took home three awards: Rookie of the Year, People’s Champ and Made You Look (a sure nod to her radical fashion sense).
A year after debuting at the BET Awards as part of the Cypher series, Minaj stood atop the hip-hop world, and as usual she had nothing but love for the ladies in her acceptance speech. “I’m paving the way for girls,” Minaj said. “I want to thank all the girls of hip-hop.”
Fans are still more than a month away from the release of Minaj’s solo debut, “Pink Friday,” which is set to hit shelves November 23. Minaj’s latest single, “Your Love,” topped the Billboard Rap Songs chart, the first time for a female artist since 2002.
“Last year, I was here in anticipation of the cypher,” she told the audience. “Now, I’m here in anticipation of my debut.”
This year's BET Hip-Hop Awards will air at 8 p.m. on October 12.
