Anderson Cooper to host daytime show

Yes, everyone, it looks like the rumors are true: Anderson Cooper is indeed moving to daytime.

The CNN host has signed a deal for an hour-long daily daytime show that is set for national syndication in Fall 2011, according to a statement. The aim of the show is to cover the stories everyone’s talking about around the “water cooler,” and will focus on everything from social issues to pop culture, human interest pieces to trends and events.

On top of hosting this new daytime show, Cooper will still man the desk on CNN's “AC:360” weeknights at 10 p.m.

By interviewing a mix of celebs, newsmakers and real people on the daytime program, Cooper aims to “create a daily destination for multiple generations of women looking to be informed and entertained, gain perspective, and stay connected to each other and the world around them,” the press release said. He’s also expected to host town hall meetings on engaging topics like race and infidelity.

“Over the course of the past few years, I’ve had the opportunity to work on a number of daytime programs,” Cooper said in the statement. “It’s fun and interesting to work in daytime television. The format is unique and you can really go in-depth on a wide range of fascinating and compelling stories. With this new program I hope to relay important information and relate to people and the audience in a completely different way."

Gotta love all the AC bashers. You guys can't even articulate one good reason as to why you don't like him. This guy is as professional as they come, period. We would get better quality news if every journalist was like him.

Anderson Cooper is the best reporter on CNN he goes to where the action is and cares about the people. He still goes back to New Orleans and reports on the progress since Katrina, I quit watching Larry King several months ago, and will not watch any news if have to watch FOX. Hope he does continue to be on 360.

I like your sense of humor,,,,CNN host has signed a one-hour Daily Show during the day is set for national syndication in the fall of 2011, according to the statement. The aim of the exhibition is to cover the stories of all the talk around the "fresh water", and focuses on all social issues and pop culture, human interest pieces for events. On top of hosting a new daytime show, Cooper continues to man the desktop on CNN "AC 360" at 10 pm on weekdays, a combination of interviews with celebrities, newsmakers and people during the day program is designed to Cooper, "to create a daily destination for generations of women want to be informed and to be born, to get the perspective and connect with each other and the world around them," said the press release. He also looks forward to hosting town hall meetings to pursue subjects such as race and infidelity. :) Injury Lawyers :)

I think we have reached the era where we no longer have to announce that we are gay just like we don't have to announce that we are straight.

i totally love anderson cooper. besides espn sportscenter, ac 360 is my favorite news program. he puts his all into the stories that he reports on and tries very hard to be fair to those who appear on his program. he is not afraid to get down into the trenches and report on the stories that really affect mankind. i watch his show every night and i am glad that he will continue to do ac 360. i wouldn't mind if they just put him in the 8pm-12am slot. great journalism, keep up the good work anderson!

Good grief, do you all work for CNN and are providing free advertisement for Cooper's new show? "Oh, I just love Anderson." "Oh congratulations, Anderson" "You're so hot"........GAG, enough already. He's just another CNN
"reporter" that's the male version of Joy Behner (sp), but who cares....she's a pain too! Talk shows and reality shows...
    more wasted air time.

I converted to CNN on 9/11/2001 because I was moved by the reporting of Aaron Brown. He was intelligent and emotionally connected with what he was reporting. I was not a person who used to watch news shows but I was riveted to his reporting. I stayed with CNN when he left but kept thinking I'd leave CNN because I didn't like AC. I kept hoping CNN would agree with me. AC started to improve for awhile but then, "Keeping Them Honest", a self-righteous angle that encourages the ire of the audience, began. Pairing this with CNN Heroes does not balance out the negativity of his nightly self-righteousness. Now you're giving him a daytime show but keeping him on at night plus Thanksgiving and New Years' Eve!! Can't you find anyone else besides him other than Elliot Spitzer? With "keeping them honest, how can you give a big job to Elliot Spitzer?!?! What hypocrisy. Where are your values CNN? Can't you find anyone else intelligent besides Spitzer? If AC is going to focus on where folks are letting us down, why put on Spitzer and then give AC a job like Heroes? With finding it harder and harder to avoid AC, now Spitzer is the last straw!! I'll tune in for Fareed Z and for Sanjay G but you've finally lost me.

Well, I guess those of you who choose to make the topic the fact that AC is/or might be gay clearly demonstrates the bullies of the adolescent age continue to be bullies.................only grown up now. You are no better than those children who bullied that 13 year old until he killed himself........

Gay or straight- AC is a respectable, compassionate, honest, intelligent person...........

Gosh what is Kelly going to do without her Anderson to fill in when "The Reg" is off? Anderson is a top notch journalist, he gives it his all when doing his stories. The bottom line, he is a really nice guy and does so much for people in need! I only wish him the best when he starts his new show, I'll be watching! Love you Anderson!

The news as I read this article says it will be the perspective of what conversations are going around the "watercoolers" in the business world. Women were mentioned, but there are more than woman home during the day. Sr. citizens from 55 up to 100 are listening to TV, too. Some students that haven't got classes all the time, also. Anderson Cooper's night show is up there with interesting stories. I love his keeping them honest, there is so much dishonesty in our society today.

  55. let's not assume who's sitting home

I don't know about you, but I find it highly insulting for the press release for the new daytime AC show to characterize it as “ a daily destination for multiple generations of women looking to be informed and entertained." Apparently CNN is under the misconception that only females must be home during the day (and lazy and stupid ones at that), certainly no males at all. They might want to reconsider the fact that millions of men AND women are home during the day, some unfortunately due to job loss. And today, almost all households are two-person breadwinners, with women pulling equal weight working sometimes two jobs during the day to make ends meet. Get with the twentieth century, CNN. This assumption is insulting.

Congratulations Anderson Cooper! You have integrity. Please cover stories that real people care about. Please expose the names of corporations that ship jobs overseas one by one and let us know what products they make. They are ruining america. Please expose them even if they advertise on your shows or on other CNN shows. Please question why everything is now made in China. Why are we just consuming products and not manufacturing. Next time a new holiday gadgets come out, please tell the american people where they are made before we all go crazy over them. Please continue to hold politicians accountable for the claims they make so that american people aren't confused and we need to know their ties to corporations. Please expose the role of Swiss banks in allowing african politicians to loot the continent, keeping the money overseas wny generations suffer.

Lastly, a little advice for CNN. I also watch Rick Sanchez, love the show as well, but can CNN let him come on his morning show 1 hour later. STOCKS SEEM TO TANK DURING HIS FIRST HOUR. JUST AN OBSERVATION. But I love watching him as well.

I'm very happy for Anderson Cooper. He's one of my favorite people on t.v. He drills down into a story to get at the truth. He cares, most of the time. I miss him reporting on hurricanes with John Zarella. Those two reporting together were very good.

Also, the reporting about Katrina, the oil spill, the earthquake in Haiti, the tsunami were phenomenal! Great reporting!

Personally, I wish they would put AC360 at an earlier time slot so I can watch it in the evenings. Right now it's on too late, I have to get up early in the morning and I'm not a morning person. I have been following his show at 5 a.m. the following morning.

Also, his new show should not only be aimed at women. It should be aimed at women and men. Women have concerns, likes, disklikes and so do men. It just isn't fair to leave them out.

Anderson very nice guy heart in the right place. However it is time we had a real world news not a program that includes reporting on celebrities. Americans are not informed because the like of CNN does not do its job, News on the Cheap how about sending reporters out into the world and giving us information that informs. Instead of these panels that discuss politics how about getting the politicians on and holding there feet to the fire. Anderson three nights of repeating the same subject usually after Larry King has already bored it to death as well. Come on CNN dont make me go over to FOX that will be really plumbing the depths.

I certainly hope Anderson's new show is much, much more then "entertainment TV", god knows there's more than enough of that around. Hopefully he will continue to investigate the types of stories he has in the past. I don't think I could stand another "fluff" program.

Also, why would his daytime program be directed towards women only? Don't men watch TV during the day ? If you're looking to draw women only, watch Lifetime TV or one of the networks devoted to women. As a woman, I'm insulted and appalled to think I would need a special program to "create a daily destination for multiple generations of women looking to be informed and entertained, gain perspective, and stay connected to each other and the world around them", rather then watching regular TV programming. Do the networks think women watch only the soaps, game shows and programs like Dr. Phil, Oprah or Jerry Springer? Programs like "60 Minutes", "Dateline" or "20/20" seemed to be watched by both genders. It's really unfortunate a journalist of Anderson Cooper's caliber has been reduced to "fluff" and entertainment journalism.

I used to like Anderson Cooper. That was until he almost single handedly destroyed the Gulf Coast economy by his negligent and over the top reporting of the Gulf Oil spill. Because of Anderson Cooper, and those like him, it took a big problem and turned it into a tourism and lodgin catastrophe. Why else would beaches and resorts that were in no way physically affected by the oil spill be empty? Negligent reporting. His "keeping them honest" section often put the most outspoken people on air, but they rarely were actual experts. One of his go-to guys was actually a history professor at Rice, and not an expert at all. Lost a lot of respect for him. He made it up by reporting his own over sensationalism of the even near the end of the crisis however, but not nearly enough.

It say's he's still doing his 10pm show, but that he's also going to be doing a daytime tv show next year. If that's true, people can get their fill of crap and celebrity stuff (along with a little news) on his daytime tv show, and then get the news and all the issues more in depth on the nightly show (as per usual).

Should be interesting to see how this all pans out. And if both his shows are going to be on CNN or if the new show is going to be on a different channel (ABC/CBS/NBC)

      September 30, 2010 at 2:18 pm | Report abuse |
    • Bad Patient

A little bit fluffy is ok. He seems to have the right balance. But, there are WAY TOO MANY seriously important things that this country needs to concern itself with that are completely glossed over. That's not good for our country. Campaign reforms to stop corporations from corrupting our government beyond recognition is one. (Agencies that we thought were protecting us are directed elsewhere...our kids won't recognize any of the agencies that our parents had to protect them...we didn't have them in our generation...we just got sick anyway. If we can't swing this back to something with a conscience, I'm afraid we are doomed in a generation or so.) Our health care is something close to the worst in the world in countries that claim to have much for a health plan. We need a national health plan. We can't compete in a worldwide market with countries that have a national health plan. This plan being proposed sounds more like something the insurance companies cooked up. They never come up with anything that makes sense and we have to spend more money to get rid of the things they come up with. Same with professional licensing boards that are holding people up in school (more money for them) to protect wages and not meeting the needs of the people. So, once again we are at the dangerous side so someone else can make money. We won't even go into pharmaceutical companies (Read Selling Sickness), or manufacturers that try to influence policy to put more money in their pocket over protecting our health. It's pretty bad actually. Some towns are so highly specialized because hospitals compete so bad that that doctors are split between several and people suffer and die in those towns due to inadequate and incompetent health care (see Sioux Falls, SD). There's plenty to be concerned about. Helicopters...look at how many crash.

All joking (I'm not really joking) aside, the man seems like a good candidate for daytime on one condition. He does not allow the system to manipulate what he feels is important. What ever the format, make sure truth plays a large part of what is discussed and presented. Just because group A gives money does not mean group A's agenda should be exalted. I had a lot of respect for Anderson until he came out with that totally biased story a few weeks ago "Do Illegal Aliens Really Take Jobs No One Wants?" and used farm labor for the example! That's the one job they are supposed to be allowed to come here and do! How about all the other jobs "no one wants" such as anything that doesn't require a college education nowadays?

That snivelling illegal maid that they unsuccessfully tried to scandalize Meg Whitman with yesterday (it was the employment agency that passed her through with the phony I.D.) was whining that she was abused because she was only getting paid $24 per hour. Really??? I am only making $30 per hour here in the Bay area and during the crash I was doing maid work in order to survive for $10!

No, I don't respect Anderson anymore, his reporting is biased according to whatever the person with the paycheck wants him to say...

Rally... So Anderson would really get soooo much more respect if he insists that imingrants NOT take any sort of high-paying job; God forbid seek and education after paying taxes. I mean, they can still be our landscapers and toilet cleaners... right?

I thought CNN already has A.J. and Brooke doing that. The life, the rise, the fall of these celebrities cannot be related to by regular folks, CNN viewers could not care less. Anderson Cooper has such a beautiful mind why waste it on Britney Spears, Lindsay Lohan, and Whitney Houston. Anderson is a real journalist one of the rare ones on your payroll. Such a disappointment..... I guess it is all about milking the cow, isn't it?

It seems like many people need a scapegoat. Hate is hate and people who are jealous or not happy with themselves find happiness in holding on to their small minded ways. I pitty people who fill their lives with hate when happiness and love make you feel so much better. Anderson I wish you the best! You are a good person who is making the world a better place.

Anderson is a great guy, gay or not, and he deserves this daytime show. I hope that he discuss topics like the ones on his nightime show but please do not bring celebrities that are a waste of everybody's time; just bring good subjects, news of great importance and topics that are always great to hear about. If he wants to bring someone good bring great personalities with a good topic to discuss like Dr. Gupta, Colin Powell or someone like Mandela, but do not bring celebrities that are discussing pictures, music or other stupidity. I know Anderson will do great. He is a great person and great journalist.

I totally agree with marie richards comment . He needs to have TV show that deals with "stories or news of real substance". Not about some celebrity's drug habit or some other kind of "fluff" content. Good luck AC.

How about telling the Senators and Congressmen to take a patriot stand on company’s offshoring jobs. Corporations that offshore jobs are traitors and should be taxed on goods produced overseas and IT services performed outside the country. You don’t hear companies from India, China, Philippine or even the European block knocking at my door for jobs offers. In my opinion the U.S. should eliminated H1 visas and the L1 and L2 visas plus others. These visas where provide because of the lack of specialized talent that could not be found here at home. With so many people unemployed I am certain the specialized talent can be found here in the U.S.A. At least the $5,000.00 application fee for the H1 lottery visas pool companies pay should be raised to $50,000.00. This will force the companies to train U.S. workers with the specialized talent that they desperately need.

The other night, Anderson Cooper ran a Youtube clip of a news lady picking her nose and eating it. It was very gross and ruined my dinner, but I could only imagine what this must have done to this woman's career and her life in general. I thought about her kids and how this could affect them at school, how cruel the other kids could be. Then last night, he did a segment on the kid who killed himself due to excessive bullying. I wont miss him.

What a waste of talent to have this incisive journalist doing schlock TV. AC does a great job, but I hate to see him moving from hard journalism to pop culture. Cable needs more people like AC and Rachael Maddow who know what they are talking about, do their research and ask tough questions. Any no talent can do what Oprah and Regis do.

"Multiple generations of women" Is this show aimed only at women? What is needed is content that surprises, informs and above all, is unpredictable. Anderson's current home, CNN has become the National Inquirer of 'news' shows. Thank God for the BBC!

Also, I'm so sick of these shows that bring on celebrities to promote their movies, music, books, etc. I do hope though, that he is in Oprah's time slot when she leaves.
