Gaga likes us, she really likes us...

If you’ve been remotely alert throughout 2010, you know that Lady Gaga is not only a consistent presence in media headlines - be it for flipping the bird at a Mets game or wearing a meat dress at an awards show - but she’s also one of the most powerful celebs using social media. And when we say powerful, we mean that the Lady is the Queen of Twitter.

The 24-year-old pop star has been wielding her Twitter power as of late to rally her “little monsters,” as she affectionately calls her fans, to support a repeal of the military's Don’t Ask Don’t Tell policy.

“All hands on deck Lil Monsters: Key Senate vote this Tues. on #DADT repeal. We need 60 senators. Call your senator now," Gaga tweeted last week, following that up by sharing a video message she’d composed addressing the issue with her 6 million-plus followers on the social networking site.

So of course it follows that the “Paparazzi” singer, after addressing a crowd gathered at a Portland, Maine rally in support the repeal, would tweet follow-up info for any little monsters who missed Gaga speak.

If that applies to you and you want to watch the full address, Gaga suggests you head over to CNN.com.

She can do whatever she wants. Who says she can't express her opinions? She's bit on the wacky side, but she is smarter than the normal popstar that only care about their perfect image. She says that she doesn't even have a house, and spends a lot of her money on her shows. If she doesn't care about money all that much, then she must be in it for the fame and message she's trying to send. She is talented, but normally downplays it with meaningless mainstream pop music. She's probably the best thing to happen to mainstream music since Madonna, and like it or not she's going to be around for a while.

At least she uses her star power to relay her political views...views that the majority of americans share. Why is it that when a star shares their views everyone think they should just shut up? Lady GAGA you GOGO.

I was really impressed by the speech Lady gave. She is a good orator. Good on her for speaking out on things she feels strongly about, although I don't completely agree with it (not for the reasons you may think – I am a que#r who opposes the military all together). She is certainly a rare star in a sea of dim bulbs, a true artist with a heart. May the Gods bless her.

Hey CNN, why is my comment not posted even though I was very polite? I frequently see comments posted that I think are rude, but you often fail to post many of my polite remarks. I didn't ridicule anyone, or say that anyone was ugly or stupid. Now I realize that it's CNN that is ugly and stupid.

There are certain words that CNN has blacklisted. It's an automatic thing. No is monitoring these comments, unless people report it enough, but that's probably automatic, as well. Same with any other automatic message board.

Sure, lets open the military so Gays and Lesbians serve openly, and boot out the macho types who don't want the G&Ls in the military. Then let's allow this military full of effeminates defend out nation. This makes a whole lotta sense. If those people are let in the military, I will leave immediately, and so will many of my peers. Those of you who are pushing for this idiocy, I hope you're prepared to receive what you're asking for.

Why are these celeb knuckleheads worried about DADT anyway? Are they going to serve in the military and help defend our great nation? NOPE! Let's leave the "real-world" stuff to those of us that actually do the real world work. You go sing and dance and do wierd stuff to get attn. Let the patriots and true heros fight and vote. Lady gaga will never do anything for her country...she's just a selfish idiot mouthing off for something that she believes in...and forcing others in the military to deal with her wants and beliefs. There is a reason gays are not allowed in the military – just like there is a reason blind people aren't allowed in either. What's next, allow women into combat arms?

Lady gaga knows nothing about the military/US history. Let's leave politics and military issues to the patriots of this nation and not the Hollywood entertainers. Who cares what this goober thinks anyway?

I'd like to sincerely thank you for serving our country. However, who is to say that gays and lesbians can't be true heroes or patriots? Besides, serving in the military is not the only way to do anything for our country, as you have suggested. She does believe in this, and she is not just "mouthing off", but voicing her opinion, just as you and I have a right to do so. And how could you even relate a blind person and a gay/lesbian?? It's not as if a gay or lesbian has a handicap, you know... And you must be kidding about women in combat arms... please tell me you are. And, as each person has something to contribute to society and has potential, I care what she thinks.

Ok, you say you know a lot about the military, you know you said "gay's aren't allowed to serve (like blind people, lol)", well, they are, thats what DADT is, they can serve, just need to do it in the closet. Think of how many gay's you served with? Oh my! probably even put your life in danger for, Oh no!
BTW, thanks for serving for our country, where proud LGTB people can speak out and demand equality, Thank you!

I suspect Gaga knows US History about as well as you do. She grew up in Manhattan, where so much history took place, and she is well educated. And by the way, she hates Hollywood-she has stated that many times.

I think that this is BS. I am currently serving in the military and I couldnt even imagine sharing my room with a opened gay/lesbian service member. Its better to keep it the way it is now because that is only going to bring conflict in the military and the gays/lesbian would only be getting special treatment. I really dont mind gays/lesbians but they should keep that to themselves, just like I keep my straight relationship to myself. I am MOST DEFINITELY finishing out my contract and getting the f* out of here before this gets any worse.

If all the gays and lesbians were to disappear, all you hate mongers would just turn to something else, freckles, bald spots on mens heads, over weight people, moles, doesn't matter. You can spew all the hatet you want and you're still no better than the person(s) you are directing it at. What a waste of time for you.

Excuse me, but Lady Gaga has the podium that most of us do not have. She is an American just like anyone else, and is using the platform that she has to do some good. You have to give the girl some credit – at least she isn't a Paris Hilton or Lindsay Lohan. Besides, I'm with her. If gays are willing to put their life on the line to defend OUR country (not just your close-minded country, but OURS), then who is to tell them that they can't just because that they are gay? She's exercising her right to voice her opinion and stand up for something she believes in, and doing so in a polite and respectful manner, unlike some other religious leaders we've seen in the past month... Lady Gaga, kudos to you for being your self and using your platform to make a change in OUR country. And, to the person earlier that said that all the straight people would leave our military if this bill was passed, you're being ridiculous. Not everyone is as close minded as you are.

Actually, she has achieved her position by hard work, intelligence, and talent. She never entered beauty contests or TV 'talent' contests (that are really personality and looks contests), or was picked by Disney from a casting call. So you might say she made in in spite of her looks.

  20. let me enlighten you

So what makes you any more qualified to express your opinions on this page than her using her fame to promote awareness for an excellent cause?

This is a direct copy out of her biography-

"Gaga is the girl who at age 4 learned piano by ear. By age 13, she had written her first piano ballad. At 14, she played open mike nights at clubs such as New York’s the Bitter End by night and was teased for her quirky, eccentric style by her Convent of the Sacred Heart School (the Manhattan private school Nicky and Paris Hilton attended) classmates by day. At age 17, she became was one of 20 kids in the world to get early admission to Tisch School of the Arts at NYU. Gaga adds with a wink in her eye, “And, now, I’m just trying to change the world one sequin at a time.”

So do not tell me she is not intelligent.

It is all to bring attention to herself. It works. Suckers like a lot of you fall for it. What is it about liberal or Republican or Democrat? It has nothing to do with it. She is a fake. It is about morals, not political drawing political lines. Most democrats are not for gays being married or in the military. Otherwise, it would already be the law across the land. The military sets their own rules. Get over it.

So, when that YouTube video of her playing the piano came out, does that prove to you she doesn't create her own music? And you have the facts and figures (other than the ones in your head w/o any evidential backdrop) to dictate as to the Democrats' policies on DADT and don't give us more? If the military "sets their own rules", did the military create DADT, or did President Clinton, who, by the way, held a civilian post?

Really, Joe, who is the sucker here?

I am glad you asked Phil. Yes you are the sucker. So she plays the piano. How great is that? They are a dime a dozen. She can't sing. Nothing that we haven't already seen before. And ask your democrat buddies (who are not gay) what they really think. You will not get the correct answer as they are afraid to offend you the gay person. People need to face up to the fact that being gay is wrong and you get no special treatment. If you want to do it, fine. Just don't expect any special treatment. Or I know what is coming back on this one. I mean don't expect equal treatment. It is just wrong. Just because you want to do something, doesn't mean the public should accept it. Get over it. Everyone needs to say what they really think. Gaga doesn't care. She is using your ignorance to her own benefit.

"I know you are but what am I?"

You're fun to play with, Joe, you know that? You give me a great reason to post so often about a thread that ultimately doesn't need commentary but nonetheless allows it. I would ask my "democrat buddies", but I asked you to prove to me your point first, if you can, which I doubt that you can, because at this point I'm doubting you even understand what you yourself are even saying.. I mean, you ramble in such a poetic fashion it's almost a work of art! But you're too "butt ugly" to be an artist, so of course, that can't be possible..

Notice, Ye AEtherweb, how Joe didn't even address the fact that DADT was not a military rule but a presidential mandate put upon the military which then became military rule. Just skipped right past that one. He was too caught up in "butt ugly" and "suckers", oh, and how it's "no big deal" about playing the piano. I knew it, Joe, you're superior to the piano because you play the concertina! You go, boy! You spin nonesense words into artistic expression and can trump all pianists in history (yes, Franz Schubert is all the hating on you, pal!) and thus PROVES he has the right to dismiss pianists as having no contribution to musical expression, thus, Lady Gaga creates no music, just like Franz Schubert, Brahms, Liszt, etc.

You said: "Here music is fairly decent huh? She has no music. Everything is done for her. She is a fake."
Let's see: She has taken 12 years of piano lessons, been playing in clubs since she was 14 (meaning she has 10 years experience in the music industry), and writes all of her own songs.

How can this be, you say? Let's see: She smart (she speaks 5 langagues-how many can you speak?), gained early admission to a very prestigious college, and she works her butt off. And as to having no music-her first album had four #1 songs-all written by her. No other artist or group has had more than two #1 songs on their debut album. Her second album had three #1 songs, out of only eight songs on the album.

She has just as much right to an opinion as do you. She would respect you for your opinion, but you don't respect her for hers.

As for your personal opinions about gay being "wrong" – got news for you buddy, society is whistling a new tune, and times they are a changing and leaving you and the rest of the knuckledraggers behind. It's fine, you can harbor whatever personal opinions you want...doesnt bother me, i'll continue to think you're stupid and not really worth sharing oxygen with and you'll continue to think im sick, wrong or depraved or whatever...doesnt change anything in the grand scheme of things, except...you'll have to meet your maker some day and explain all the hate in your heart to him...and maybe i'll see you in hell, maybe i'll see you in heaven...maybe neither exist.
Best of luck Joe – you're going to need it.

Do you even own a CD of hers to judge her? Or have you only seen her acts on tv? Yes, she is out there, but the girl has some pipes and is musically talented. So many people complain there are no 'artists' out there anymore, and here is one in front of your eyes. Whether it bothers you that she costumes herself so much or not, under it all, there is an artist there.

Colin: Not that I disagree with your overall point, but the mere fact that she those songs hit #1 does not mean that they are good – it could also mean that she has a strong following due to other factors such as publicity (which is accomplished through acts such as this and wearing meat dresses).

I love how people here exercise their "righteous" indignation when someone allows their passions to be manifested in such an ultimately democractic way, because "sickos" and "stupid pop stars" aren't allowed to do so, but rank-in-file Regular Joes like yourselves would rather anonymous post on the Internet your opinions on such matters as if you have the right yourselves to do so because you're obviously not a "sicko" nor a "stupid pop star". Internet entertainment at its most effusive! Not that it really, really has any bearing on Lady Gaga or to her "little monsters", now does it?

I don't believe that a 24 year old pop star who has never served in the military has any right to say who should and who should not serve. Let the people who do this for a living decide who stays and goes. They are the experts on the matter and you can't even keep yourself from getting thrown out of a Mets game. Maybe we should call Stormin Norman Schwarzkopf out of retirement to teach you how to sing!

If you "don't believe" she has any right to express her opinion, well, I hate to break it to you....you're wrong. There is this clause in the First Amendment that mentions Freedom of Speech (the RIGHT to Freedom of Speech) which is recognized in America. It doesn't say you have to have served in uniform do you have this right. It seems like the only people who think they have the right to an opinion these days are the Tea Party wackos.

Beliefs are not always truths. What you believe does not matter in this case. The truth of it is that she does have "the right" to say anything she feels and that she has an audience and the resources to get her message across. So does Sarah Palin, Sean Penn, and countless others. If you are not a lemming, it doesn't matter who is trying to cram what message into whatever body part you wish to complete the metaphor with.

My question is, who is she that her opinion matters on this subject? Does she or has she ever worn the uniform? No. So why should her opinion on this matter, or anyone else's that doesn't wear the uniform, be listened to? Defending this nation is serious business. The military is not the setting for some ethics experiment. The armed forces has it's own code of ethics that is very different from civilian because of the seriousness of the implications. There is no room for error.

This girl is butt ugly. Good singer? You have got to be kidding. She is another product turned out like your Brittany Spears by the music factory. People fell for it hook line and sinker. Look at her photos before she became this radical. She was your normal looking if not ugly kid. Someone says, hey lets dress her up, make her edgy. People will fall for it. Besides there are no big acts out there right now. It worked and all of the poor suckers fell for it and think she can even sing. All man made. What a joke and now she is dumb enough to let it go to her head. She is political too! Gaga or whatever they chose to call her should go back to her singing as she is so lucky to even have been chosen to be the next big act. I still can't believe how gullible the public is. She has to be the worst act I in recent memory. Throw in her acting concerned for political causes and she is a recipe for disaster. She only cares about money.
