'Mad Men's' beautiful girls

Editor’s Note: This post contains spoilers for the Sunday, September 19 episode of AMC’s “Mad Men.”

There weren’t many bright spots for our gang this week, were there? Other than Don’s tryst with Dr. Faye Miller, who continues to grow on me, it was very much a Terrible, Horrible, No Good, Very Bad Day for almost everyone at the agency. I hate to think what would have happened had the ladies of SCDP not kept everything from falling apart completely.

First off, the unthinkable happened this week. Miss Blankenship’s stint with SCDP came to an untimely end when she passed away at her desk. The onetime office bombshell and Mistress of Zing was fondly remembered by Bert, who in drafting her obituary remembered her as such, “She was born in 1898 in a barn. She died on the 37th floor of a skyscraper. She’s an astronaut.” It bears repeating that the writing on this show is truly sublime.

Although somber on its face, the relocation of Miss Blankenship’s remains was a moment that ranks up there with the John Deere Incident as one of the show’s most humorous. Though if Joan instructed me to “get a man” to assist with the move, Pete Campbell would not have been my first choice. I would have opted for Rizzo, assuming he didn’t say something that made me wish for him to trade places with Miss Blankenship first.

Will.i.am: Teaming up with Kanye 'would be fresh'

If Will.i.am has his way, he’ll soon be working on a joint album with Kanye West.

At a recent stop for the Broadcast Music Inc. awards, the Black Eyed Peas frontman was asked who was on his wish list for future collaborations.

“I would like to work with Kanye,” Will.i.am said on the red carpet before receiving the BMI President’s award. “If we came up with a project together – like remember when [Cee-Lo] and Danger Mouse did that project and they called it something else? I think if me and Kanye did something together, that would be crazy.”

What to DVR during fall TV's premiere week

Marquee readers, get ready: Fall TV’s No. 1 week is upon us, officially marking that time of year when your DVR will get more action than the "Jersey Shore" cast.

We understand that there are some difficult decisions ahead about what will be recorded and what will sadly go unwatched, so here's hoping we’ll make it a bit easier with this list of must-see season premieres.

MONDAY

“Dancing with the Stars”: We’re aware that season 10 of “Dancing with the Stars” with the overdramatic Kate Gosselin will be extremely hard to beat, but we’re sure teen mom Bristol Palin has what it takes to bring controversy back. Watch it on ABC at 8 p.m.

“The Event”: If you’ve been quaking with “Lost” withdrawal these last few months, check out NBC’s new conspiracy-thriller at 9 p.m. Jason Ritter stars as everyman Sean Walker who discovers a secret “that could change mankind forever.”

Other Monday premieres we’re excited about:

JWoww: From 'Jersey Shore' to Playboy?

JWoww’s breasts, which have been known to defy the laws of physics, could be coming to a newsstand near you.

“Final offer is standing,” the “Jersey Shore” star told E! Online of her rumored collaboration with Playboy. “Hopefully, it will go through.”

And if it does, JWoww - whose real name is Jenni Farley - will join the ranks of “Hills” star Heidi Montag, who posed for the magazine in 2009, and “The Real Housewives of New York City's” Kelly Bensimon, who covered the magazine’s March issue.

JWoww hinted that her Playboy debut might take place this winter, although Playboy is not commenting at this time.

Ricki Lake loses Malibu rental home in fire

Ricki Lake and her sons escaped tragedy after the actress's Malibu rental home burned to the ground over the weekend.

The Los Angeles Times reports that Sheriff's deputies responded to a 911 call from Lake's home at 7:30 a.m. on Sept. 18 and arrived to find the former talk show host, 41, standing safely outside along with her sons Owen, 9, and Sebastian, 13, as well as their dog.

The wooden home was completely engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived on the scene, reports the Times. After 20 minutes, the fire was extinguished, but the house was completely destroyed.

As for what might have caused the fire, Lt. Rich Erickson of the L.A. County Sheriff’s Department's Malibu/Lost Hills station told the paper, "It appears that she was refueling some sort of portable heater when a couch caught fire and that set the whole house ablaze."

"Thank you everyone for your concern and well wishes," Lake tweeted hours after the incident. "My sons, beloved dog, and I are safe and very grateful. Xoxor."

Ellen, Tyra are top-earning women in prime-time

Ellen, Tyra are top-earning women in prime-time

Her job as a judge on "American Idol" may not have worked out, but it's unlikely that Ellen DeGeneres is singing the blues. That gig helped the comedian land the top spot on Forbes's list of Prime-Time TV's 10 Top-Earning Women.

According to Forbes, DeGeneres raked in an estimated $55 million between June 1, 2009 and June 1, 2010, thanks to her brief stint on "Idol," her ads for American Express, CoverGirl and Vitamin Water, as well as her daytime chat show.

Coming in at No. 2 is Tyra Banks, who banked $25 million within the same time frame. Besides producing and appearing on "The Tyra Banks Show" and "America's Next Top Model," Banks also produced ABC's reality show "True Beauty" and recently signed a deal to release a teen book series called "Modelland."

Former "Grey's Anatomy" star Katherine Heigl comes in third with a cool $15.5 million, owing many of her megabucks to her success on the big screen. Because of hits like "Knocked Up" and "27 Dresses," Heigl, who co-stars with Josh Duhamel in the upcoming dramedy "Life As We Know It," now commands $12 million per picture.

Rounding out the rest of the list of gals who are in the green: Eva Longoria Parker ($12 million); Marg Helgenberger ($10 million); Mariska Hargitay ($9.5 million); Tina Fey ($7.5 million); Ellen Pompeo and Marcia Cross (tie; $7 million); and Jennifer Love Hewitt and Calista Flockhart ($6.5 million).

Katy Perry's weekend: Defend fiancé, party in Vegas

Katy Perry’s fiancé Russell Brand may have been snapped up by police after getting into a row with a paparazzo on Friday at Los Angeles International Airport, but the bachelorette party had to go on.

“If you cross the line & try an put a lens up my dress, my fiancé will do his job & protect me. #standbyyourman,” Perry tweeted on Friday, and by Saturday, the "California Gurls" singer, 25, was spotted at Las Vegas's Hard Rock Hotel Beach Club with a 25-person entourage, including fellow pop sensation Rihanna, in tow.

The crew was also seen with some “inflatable objects consistent with bachelorette parties,” according to People.

After a day by the pool, Perry’s party moved to the MGM Grand Hotel/Casino, where she and Rihanna were spotted getting to know the cast of Cirque Du Soleil's “KA.”

The bachelorette fiesta seemed to end at Sapphire strip club, where the soon-to-be-Mrs. Russell Brand got a performance from a blonde dancer, People reports.

'Boardwalk Empire' HBO's newest gem

'Boardwalk Empire' HBO's newest gem

As a big fan of Hollywood's mafia stories, I've been in "mob withdrawal" for the past few years. The box office hasn't offered much since the release of "The Departed" in 2006, and television hasn't fared much better since “The Sopranos" ended in 2007.

Sure, there are a few store-brand crime dramas like "Law & Order" and "CSI: Wherever” out there, but they just don't move me, you know?

So if you, too, have been aimlessly wandering the wilderness of the multiplex and feeling around in the darkness of nighttime television searching for that new organized-crime "something" to fill the void, ladies and gentlemen, the search is over. The TV gods have hereby granted us "Boardwalk Empire."

Katie Couric wants to dance 'with the Stars'

Sure, she's interviewed presidents and movie stars, but can Katie Couric do the cha-cha? The "CBS Evening News" anchor would welcome the chance to let the world find out.

"My secret fantasy, sadly, is to be on 'Dancing With the Stars,'" Couric confessed to Us Weekly. But as far as those splashy sequined costumes, Couric admits that she'd prefer to keep things modest - much like Bristol Palin, who competes in tonight's season premiere of the ABC dance competition.

"I don't know, those skimpy outfits!" the 53-year-old mother of two said. "Seriously, it'd be like, 'Paging Jenny Craig, stat!'"
