Not many in the industry could assemble the power cast brought together by Tyler Perry for his new film, “For Colored Girls."
The recently released trailer shows glimpses of star players Janet Jackson, Thandi Newton, Anika Noni Rose, Kerry Washington, Loretta Devine, Kimberly Elise, Phylicia Rashad and Academy Award winner Whoopi Goldberg, who all join forces for an intense cinematic retelling of Ntozake Shange’s award-winning play, “For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow is Enuf."
Like its literary inspiration, the film will follow the lives of several black women who are only known by a color: “Lady in Yellow,” “Lady in Purple,” “Lady in Blue,” and so forth. Each woman deals with a different conflict such as love, abandonment, rape and abortion until the end, when all the women unite for a laying on of the hands.
The film is slated to hit theaters in November, just in time for Hollywood award season consideration.
One month later, fans will be able to watch an on-screen collision of international superstar proportions. Angelina Jolie and Johnny Depp will appear opposite one another for the first time in leading roles in Florian Henckel von Donnersmark’s “The Tourist.”
The film follows an American tourist named “Frank,” played by Depp, who is on vacation in Italy attempting to mend a broken heart. He meets a stunningly beautiful woman named “Elise” who helps him do just that and much more.
From the trailer, it would appear Jolie performs her usual sultry mysterious femme fatale role while Depp seems to offer up something new from his repertoire – awkward and just a tad bit dorky. But, then again, he is playing a tourist.
