Fox commits to J.J. Abrams' 'Alcatraz' pilot

If “The Event” really was intended to be something of a substitution for “Lost” fans, it looks like the NBC show may end up getting competition.

J.J. Abrams, who created the oft-puzzling yet addictive series that concluded with much fanfare in May, has attracted Fox with a pitch for another island-based show called “Alcatraz," according to EW.

Fox has given a pilot commitment to the program, which is based on a script written by “Lost” scribe Elizabeth Sarnoff.

Details are scarce (this is J.J. Abrams we’re talking about here) but it does appear that the plot will revolve around the notorious prison in the San Francisco Bay that housed the likes of Al Capone.

Remember what happened the last time Sam Neill was on a television show? Happy Town got canceled pretty darn quick. I'll enjoy seeing him week to week again but I'm afraid it won't last long. J.J.'s last two shows, Undercovers and Fringe, didn't do very well either. I guess you can't produce a hit without having a few flops along the way.

My Prediction: Clint Eastwood will try to escape with Betty White during a visit. They will use a time machine built by the US Army to travel around until they find a home on a river. They will become farmers and live until the year 2109.

My Prediction : Alcatraz will be depicted as we imagine it to be. a regular prison...regular inmates. slowly throughout the show, it will be revealed that the world outside the prison is not quite like our own...it may be taking place in the future, or maybe it was conquered by an alien race, or maybe everyone is dead....some kind of weird twist.
