In what could be called the modern day "shot seen 'round the world," CBS uploaded a preview for the new season of "Amazing Race" (returning September 26) that was apparently too good to wait for the actual show.
The portion of the program uploaded to both Twitvid and Youtube has two teammates, home shopping hosts Brook and Claire, taking part in a challenge to hit knights with watermelons launched by a slingshot (hey, stranger things have happened on this show).
While launching the slingshot, Claire accidentally gets hit directly in the face - hard - by a watermelon.
This video has gone viral, with some versions of it getting well over a million page views.
“Amazing Race” executive producer/co-creator Bertram van Munster didn’t specify what kind of injury Claire suffered, if she incurred one at all, but he did say in a statement that “the safety of the Racers is always our top priority.”
If an accident happens, they "always have a medic on-site or well calculated access to a local hospital/medical facility. The on-site medic attended to Claire moments after this incident and cleared her to continue," van Munster went on.
“As you’ll see in the premiere episode," van Munster added, "Claire is one tough competitor who wasn’t going to let a watermelon slow her down."
