Katie Holmes on the ‘The Romantics’: ‘It makes for a good film’

With “The Romantics” set to premiere on September 10, Katie Holmes has opened up about the drama's cast and filming the project - as well as about her own romantic spouse.

“My husband has red roses for me everywhere I go,” the 31-year-old actress revealed to Parade magazine. In “The Romantics,” however, Holmes’ love story is not so straightforward. She plays the maid of honor to a friend marrying her ex-boyfriend – a man she still has feelings for.

Holmes said she loved the script from the beginning, and the love triangle was especially intriguing.

“These conflicts are something that so many people go through,” she said. “It makes for a good film.”

The star-studded cast - which includes Anna Paquin, Josh Duhamel, Adam Brody and Candice Bergen - didn’t hurt, either. Holmes said she was "floored" by the performances.

“It was really inspiring every single day because you’d watch somebody else do a scene and you’d be like, ‘OK, wow. I didn’t know that was what it was about,’” she said. “They brought something so different and wonderful.”

Holmes also served as an executive producer for "The Romantics," contributing “lots of cupcakes and coffee.” She took the role as a chance to learn as much as she could from the producers and the director.

For Holmes, “The Romantics” is a feel-good movie that gives insight into real people with ups and downs.

“I think that’s what feels good about watching this movie and what felt good being in this movie and portraying these people…” she said. “When you have real friends, you can be your true self, and people love you for it.”
