Bristol Palin’s ‘modest’ ‘DWTS’ costume revealedWhile some of her “Dancing With The Stars” competitors opted for siren-red above-the-knee ensembles, Bristol Palin appears to have kept her word on donning a comparatively more modest costume...well, when it comes to length in the front, at least. The 19-year-old single mom told People that she thought she'd "be the most dressed [contestant and have] the most modest outfits for sure because that's who I am," and in a promo shot for the show, Palin is wearing a black, ankle-length dress with a relatively demure neckline. The costume isn’t without some sexiness, however, as the dress also bears quite a bit of lace, fringe and ruffles. Joe Perry: 'Idol' is one step above 'Ninja Turtles'At least one person isn’t thrilled about rocker Steven Tyler possibly becoming a judge on “American Idol.” In an interview with the Calgary Herald, Joe Perry took a few swipes at both his band’s lead singer and the show that could very well be Tyler’s new gig. "[‘American Idol’ is] a reality show designed to get people to watch that station and sell advertising," Perry told the paper. "It's one step above (Teenage Mutant) Ninja Turtles.” Taylor Swift gets split reaction from music starsIf you ask Nelly, Taylor Swift has validated his "cool," but if you ask Chris Robinson, she’s the personification of the faux music star. In an interview with Billboard, Nelly responded to an admiring tweet from Swift. The 20 year-old country-pop music star took to Twitter last week with praise for the St. Louis rapper’s latest single, “Just a Dream.” “I’m so in love with that new Nelly song,” Swift said about the newest offering from the 36 year-old, whose latest album "5.0" is slated for release in mid-November. Fall TV gives a sense of déjà vuThere aren’t a ton of original ideas out there in the land of fall TV, but that’s good news for those of you looking for more of the same. We’ve compiled a list of new shows that sound a lot like… well, old shows, so you can see which match up to your TV tastes. If you miss "Lost," then try out "The Event" With an equally ambiguous title, “The Event” is looking to fill the void that “Lost” has left. The main character works to expose a big cover-up, which effects “an eclectic band of strangers” (can you say Jack, Hurley and Sawyer?). Also, this conspiracy could change the fate of mankind forever. (Premieres on NBC September 20 at 9 p.m.) Sean Penn responds to WyclefIt’s been weeks since Wyclef Jean announced his intention to run for president of Haiti – and was subsequently not approved to do so – but the musician still appears to be locked in a "he said, he said" with actor and activist Sean Penn. The latest back-and-forth between the two was sparked on Friday, when Jean let loose a few incendiary lyrics towards Penn while performing at a concert in New York. “I got a message for Sean Penn,” Jean sang, “Maybe he ain't see me in Haiti because he was too busy sniffing cocaine.” Hulk Hogan hospitalized for back spasmsThe Hulk recently landed in the hospital because of his back, but hopefully the wrestler’s health problems won’t sideline him for long. In a video posted to his Twitter account, Hulk Hogan confirmed that he suffered “a major spasm from my hip all the way up the middle of my back,” adding that it “just totally overwhelmed me.” Hogan said his trip to the ER wasn’t surgery-related, and was hopeful that the physicians could “give me something to calm this down.” His rep told CNN Tuesday, "He is there because of back spasms but will be fine." Hogan added in a video posted Tuesday morning that he had a "bunch of tests" lined up for the day, but his back is "feeling pretty good" - at the very least, "better than yesterday." (FYI, if you click the link to that video, you'll get an eyeful of what he calls his "potty chair." Don't say we didn't warn you.) He also says that when he gets back on his feet, he's going to "get real dangerous." Again - don't say we didn't warn you. Michael Douglas will ‘Stand Up to Cancer’In addition to the bevy of stars already signed up for this week’s “Stand Up to Cancer” telethon, actor Michael Douglas will also participate in the event, which will raise funds for cancer research. The 65-year-old star of the upcoming movie “Wall Street: Money Never Sleeps” was recently diagnosed with a tumor in his throat, and is currently enduring a bout of radiation and chemotherapy. “It’s a fight,” he told People magazine of his treatment. “It knocks you out.” Douglas, who will participate via a taped segment, will join previously announced stars Reese Witherspoon, Sofia Vergara, Christina Applegate, Michael C. Hall, Jim Parsons, Gabrielle Union, Seth MacFarlane, David Boreanaz and Mandy Moore for the hour-long program. You can watch the live, commercial free simulcast on ABC, CBS, FOX, NBC, Bio, Current TV, Discovery Health, E!, G4, HBO, HBO Latino, MLB Network, mun2, Showtime, Smithsonian Channel, The Style Network, TV One and VH1 this Friday, September 10, at 8 p.m. ET and PT and 7 p.m. CT. Kennedy Center to honor Oprah, Paul McCartneyOn Sunday, December 5, the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts will celebrate “five individuals who have spent their lives enriching, inspiring and elevating the cultural vibrancy of our nation and the world" as part of the 33rd annual Kennedy Center Honors gala. Oprah Winfrey, whose daytime talk show will come to an end in 2011, is among the honorees, which also include country musician Merle Haggard; composer and lyricist Jerry Herman; dancer, choreographer and director Bill T. Jones; and legendary songwriter/musician Paul McCartney. “For more than 25 years, Oprah Winfrey has established one of the most innovative careers in the entertainment world, with distinctive accomplishments in television and film,” the Kennedy Center’s Chairman David M. Rubenstein said in a statement. 'Real Housewives of New Jersey' loses a cast memberJacqueline and Teresa aren’t the only ones that can hug Danielle goodbye on “The Real Housewives of New Jersey.” Bravo confirmed on its website Tuesday that Danielle Staub will not be returning next season to the hit reality show. The announcement comes the day after part two of the series reunion show which featured Staub going head to head with fellow housewives Teresa Giudice, Jacqueline Laurita and Caroline Manzo. “According to our very own Andy Cohen, 'The reunion was Danielle's last appearance on 'The Real Housewives of New Jersey','” said a statement on the Bravo site. "We thought the hugs were a great way to end two seasons of bitterness between the women." “The hugs” refers to Staub’s awkward attempt to make nice with Giudice and Laurita during the reunion show. The now ex-housewife embraced the two women - who she has been locked in a bitter dispute with all season - and murmured words of apology. Middle school hijinks on 'Bachelor Pad'Last night's episode of "Bachelor Pad" began with host Chris Harrison issuing a warning to the 11 remaining contestants that everything was about to change in the house. But, given the way that phrase is thrown around like it's nothing on this show, I had my doubts. Imagine my surprise when Chris said that with seven women and four men left in the house, the time had come to make the numbers even. In the most horribly spliced and edited way imaginable, Chris explained that three of the women would be eliminated in the next competition. Each of the four men had to choose a woman they wanted to save and partner with. The three women not picked would head home, while the eight remaining players would pair off in teams of two and the game would become a couples competition. This show has to be making it up as it goes along. |
