Katy Perry, Fantasia take top spots on BillboardEminem’s reign atop the Billboard album charts has come to an end thanks to Katy Perry and a former "American Idol" winner. Perry’s newest disc, “Teenage Dream,” debuted at No .1 on the Billboard 200, moving 192,000 copies in its opening week. Her second release on Capitol Records, the title track for “Teenage Dream,” tops out the Digital Songs chart. Not since Ke$ha's track “Animal" sat atop the list for a week in January has a solo female artist laid claim to the top spot. 'DWTS' contestants pair offThe pairings for “Dancing with the Stars” have been announced, and we’re eager to see which couples flourish and which couples flop. It’s now September, meaning we only have 20 days until the 11th season premiere. Time for these stars to start practicing! Michael Bolton and Chelsie Hightower – We’re not sure if Bolton can salsa as well as he can sing, but Hightower was once told she danced so well that she “could make a mannequin look good.” Hightower has danced three seasons and was last paired with “The Bachelor’s” Jake Pavelka. Brandy and Maksim Chmerkovskiy – With bold moves and a big mouth, Chmerkovskiy can handle strong partners, as shown by season four partner Laila Ali. He’s come close to the trophy twice and will use his self-stated good looks to get there. Oh, and his partner. Discovery Channel programming and the hostage situationThe Discovery Channel finds itself at the center of a hostage situation which appears to be tied at least in part to its programming. Discovery Communications – which includes the Discovery Channel as well as more than 100 networks such as TLC, Discovery Health, Animal Planet and Planet Green – is well known for popular shows about mega-families like “19 Kids and Counting,” “Kate Plus 8” and “Quints by Surprise.” The man identified by law enforcement at the center of a hostage situation at the corporation’s headquarters, James Lee, posted an angry manifesto where he demanded that the Discovery Channel "stop encouraging the birth of any more parasitic human infants." Behind the Scenes on 'Showbiz Tonight': Battle of the New Jersey showsThe big buzz in the "Showbiz Tonight" morning meeting today was about the battle of the New Jersey shows. Today it’s “Jersey Shore” vs. “Real Housewives of New Jersey," since both shows are getting spectacular ratings and continue to outdo each other with over-the-top drama. We're raising some big questions today on "Showbiz Tonight," starting with whether or not New Jersey is the new Hollywood, and which show is a bigger train wreck. "Showbiz" producer Sandra Lee was torn on her answer, but ultimately voted “Real Housewives of New Jersey” saying, “They’re true adults, they’re parents and the fact that they act like children is pretty outrageous.” Jersey 'Housewives' reunion gets monster ratingsThose Jersey “Real Housewives” are quickly becoming infamous for something other than their catfights, and that would be their ratings. They set a record earlier this year when a few members of the cast got into a weave-snatching scuffle, and they did it again with the first part of the reunion special, which aired on Monday. That “Housewives” episode eclipsed all others in the multi-city “Real Housewives” franchise, pulling in 3.9 million viewers, which also made it the No. 1 cable telecast of the day for adults 18-49. With ratings like those, it’s no wonder that rumors are floating that some cast members are trying to up their pay. The second part of the reunion will air Monday, September 6 at 9 p.m. - think they'll be able to set another record? And if the picture above - currently the photo on the “Rude Boy” singer’s Twitter account – is any indication, Rihanna absolutely loves it. The 22-year-old’s wax figure recalls RiRi’s blonde cropped 'do of yesteryear, and is clothed in the memorable all-black Balmain ensemble she wore to the designer's runway show during Spring 2010 Paris Fashion Week. Seven years after the celebutante took over TV screens with her reality series "The Simple Life," her aunts are following suit, appearing on Bravo's upcoming "The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills." And the name of Conan O'Brien's new show is...With a name like “Conan,” it’s got to be good… or is that Smucker’s? Either way, Conan O’Brien has finally announced the name of his new late-night show, which will air on TBS come November. The name? “Conan.” Obviously. |
