Remember how last weekend the box office was like a movie smorgasbord? That more or less applies to this week as well, although some of you may argue that the pickings aren't as...shall we say, appetizing, as last week. But, depending on your palate, there’s at least one movie opening this weekend that could satisfy.
"Nanny McPhee" returns to the box office after a five-year hiatus, and we wouldn't be surprised if it has a decent opener this weekend, because family films have had a great ride at the box office this summer.
If you want a little more gore than "Nanny" can provide, there's “Piranha 3D, which star Steven R. McQueen ("Vampire Diaries") describes as an “old-school horror movie” that still has a sense of humor. McQueen bills this flick as “somewhere between ‘Jaws’ and ‘Snakes on a Plane.'" Intriguing.
Then there's Bow Wow's latest feature "Lottery Ticket," which also stars Ice Cube, Terry Crews, Loretta Devine and Naturi Naughton, whom you may remember from the R&B girl group 3LW. The reviews aren't stellar, but we didn't hate "Roll Bounce" and Bow Wow does play the lead in this film.
And while we’re hesitant to even bring this up, since it’s been trumpeted in every promotional way possible (including on this very blog), Jennifer Aniston’s movie “The Switch” is also opening this weekend. Are you planning to go see it? Don’t make Jason Bateman set his hair on fire.
If you do venture to the movies this weekend (and if you’re in NYC, don’t let the bedbugs bite!), upload an iReport movie review and let us know what your thoughts are on one of the films we mentioned above. Check back on Monday for our review roundup.
