What are you seeing at the movies this weekend?Remember how last weekend the box office was like a movie smorgasbord? That more or less applies to this week as well, although some of you may argue that the pickings aren't as...shall we say, appetizing, as last week. But, depending on your palate, there’s at least one movie opening this weekend that could satisfy. "Nanny McPhee" returns to the box office after a five-year hiatus, and we wouldn't be surprised if it has a decent opener this weekend, because family films have had a great ride at the box office this summer. If you want a little more gore than "Nanny" can provide, there's “Piranha 3D, which star Steven R. McQueen ("Vampire Diaries") describes as an “old-school horror movie” that still has a sense of humor. McQueen bills this flick as “somewhere between ‘Jaws’ and ‘Snakes on a Plane.'" Intriguing. Behind the Scenes on 'Showbiz Tonight': Who's the most provocative celeb this week? The conversation this morning in the "Showbiz Tonight" morning meeting was all about Jennifer Aniston. Yesterday on “Regis & Kelly”, Aniston slipped up on live television as she was describing the experience of dressing up as Barbara Streisand for a Harper’s Bazaar shoot. Jaws dropped in the "Showbiz Tonight" newsroom when Aniston casually joked with Regis, “"Yes, I play dress up! I do it for a living, like a retard." It was an uncomfortable moment to say the least. But today there is sheer outrage! Here at "Showbiz Tonight" we’ve heard from the Special Olympics and many other organizations about Aniston’s outrageous statement. Today we’ve got the latest on the story – and everyone’s asking: when will Aniston apologize? Britney Spears may play Madonna on 'Glee'After favorable fan reaction, it looks like "Glee" is ready to pay tribute to Madonna again - at least in the form of Britney Spears. In the upcoming Spears-themed episode of the Fox hit series, the pop princess appears to recreate her 2003 "Me Against the Music" video collaboration with the Material Girl, only this time, Spears seems to be standing in for Madonna. "All my GLEEKERS in the crowd, Grab a partner take it down," Spears, 28, tweeted yesterday, referencing the song's lyrics and posting an accompanying photo of herself on the "Glee" set wearing an all-white ensemble similar to the one Madonna sported in their 2003 video. Gaga poised to pass Britney Spears on TwitterLooks like Lady Gaga is experiencing the "Fame Monster" for real - the outrageous singer is about to topple Britney Spears as the most-followed Twitter user. Social-media tracker FameCount reports that Spears currently sits atop the Twitter throne with 5,659,701 million followers as of this morning, while Gaga runs an extremely close second with 5,655,299. But Gaga's fan legion of Little Monsters could change that very quickly. This month alone, the "Bad Romance" singer garnered 600,000 new Twitter followers, while Spears drew in only 200,000. Weeklies cheat sheetWelcome back, celebrity weekly readers. This week's roundup lets us know that someone out there still has Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart playing house in their head; Sandra Bullock is still a single mother (and loving it, depending on which weekly you read); and Bethenny Frankel and Jennifer Aniston are still doing interview after interview, although only one of them has a truly legit reason for doing so (we'll let you guess who). Read on for the cheat sheet, so you can know which magazines to snap up and which to leave behind. Until next week... Album sales suffer but 'Recovery' still reignsWith 4.95 million units sold, this past week - ending on August 15 - marked an all-time low for the music industry. It’s the lowest selling week since Nielsen SoundScan began tracking album sales 19 years ago, according to Billboard. In fact, Billboard reported, this is the second time to date that the weekly total has fallen short of 5 million. Yet despite the slump in record sales, Eminem still seems to be doing all right: his latest album, “Recovery,” has spent six weeks at No. 1. The “Camp Rock 2” soundtrack isn't doing too shabby either, bringing in about $41,000. Guess it's better luck next week for the rest of the industry. Cheaters always win on the 'Jersey Shore'I wish Ronnie and Sammi could just make it work. Not because I particularly care about their happiness, or because I think they’re good for one another. I’d just prefer that they stop hogging the precious 40 to 42 minutes I get to spend with the cast each week. As usual, last night’s episode started up where the last one left off. Ronnie, MVP and Angelina were at the club, while Sammi, Snooki and JWoww waited up at home. Snooki decided to call her boyfriend Emilio. Somehow, this conversation was even more entertaining than their last – when Snooki hung up on him mid-sentence err, hiccup, to go spoon with Vinny. Cameron Diaz: Most dangerous celeb on the WebDon’t let her good looks and charm fool you: Cameron Diaz is the most dangerous celebrity - on the Web, that is. McAfee, a company that specializes in computer protection, released a report listing the Web’s most dangerous stars. Diaz knocked Jessica Biel, who's currently dating Diaz's ex Justin Timberlake, down to third place from last year’s top spot. The McAfee Most Dangerous Celebrities study found that with each search for Cameron Diaz, the person searching has a one in ten chance of landing on a website that will infect his or her computer with spyware, viruses or other malware. D.C. 'Housewives' in ParisIn case you didn’t know, here’s a newsflash: Reality shows cherry-pick their best footage in order to piece together an hour-long show. We’re three weeks into “Real Housewives of D.C.,” and if this is the good stuff, I’m dying to know what the outtakes must look like. So little that's interesting seems to go on in these peoples' lives that it makes being rich and leisurely look like a huge snooze. For starters, Stacie and her husband visit their winemaker friends. It seems like quite a few of these outings do nothing but give these people a chance to name drop or overdress for an occasion. |
