After a closely watched search, Sony Pictures has announced that Rooney Mara will portray Lisbeth Salander in the upcoming adaptation of Stieg Larsson’s “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.”

Reportedly, the “Tattoo” team wasn’t considering actresses over 24 or taller than 5 feet 5 inches in order to match Larsson’s vision of Salander’s physical presence; she’s been described as a 24-year-old who could sometimes look 14. There was the added preference that the ideal lead be relatively unknown.

That combination of requirements is thought to be the reason why actresses like Natalie Portman, Mia Wasikowska and Ellen Page weren’t likely to get the part.

There’s a rumor floating around that Danielle Staub has been fired from Bravo's "Real Housewives of New Jersey."

Life & Style magazine cites an "insider" who says, “Danielle was told that she would not return for the third season,” which "came as a complete shock” to the star, whose unbeweavable fight with cast mate Teresa Giudice pulled in record ratings for Bravo.

If she is on her way out, Bravo isn’t saying; They’ve still got bigger tables to flip with the rest of season two.

Steven Slater, the flight attendant who slid from an airplane to fame last week, now employs the services of one of Hollywood's top public relations representatives.

Howard Bragman, Chairman of media and public relations agency Fifteen Minutes, confirmed to CNN that he is now representing Slater and will help him assess offers to appear in proposed television programs inspired by Slater's dramatic exit from a JetBlue plane at New York's Kennedy Airport after he cursed a passenger over the public address system and deployed the emergency slide.

"There are probably 25 reality show offers on the table at this point," said Bragman. "There are dozens of e-mails and offers to this guy."

If we had a cupcake for every celebrity birthday today, we’d be on one heck of a sugar rush. (Also, our pants would probably feel too tight.)

Of course, August 16 is far from the only day boasting the birth of a number of the celebrities you love and the celebrities you just love to hate, but there are quite a few celebrating another year older today. We couldn’t help but notice the varied ways these famous names have taken to recognizing the day they were brought into the world.

For example, if you’re Madonna – who turns 52 today – you would party in London over the weekend in celebration of looking not even close to the age you actually are. The pop icon hit up the Shoreditch House in East London with daughter Lourdes, 13, in tow. It seems her special friend, Jesus Luz, also made an appearance.

There's big outrage today after Lindsay Lohan’s mother said Lindsay did not deserve to serve jail time for violating probation.

Dina Lohan was grilled by the “Today” show’s Matt Lauer about her daughter’s bad behavior, asking whether or not she or Michael Lohan have done enough to keep her out of trouble. Dina called it all “propaganda,” and said that Lindsay’s situation has been “blown out of proportion.”

Staffers at the "Showbiz Tonight" meeting this morning were all in agreement that Lohan is in complete denial and should take at least some responsibility for Lindsay’s drama.

After catching a severe case of Bieber Fever over the weekend, Kanye West plans to remedy the situation by collaborating with the teen singing sensation.

"Listening to @Justin Bieber "Run Away love" ... I love Sunday mornings in the crib," tweeted West,who said he'd played the song about 10 times that morning.

Flattered, Bieber replied to the hip-hop superstar, "it's not a so what moment for me. I'm 16 and a fan. I'm kinda hyped u are listening to my stuff. Thank u. Nice sunday morning."

1965 appears to be the year of milestones for our friends at Sterling Cooper Draper Pryce, and this week’s episode contained plenty of those changes. Pete’s having a baby, Ken’s back with a fiancée in tow and Peggy made a friend.

We began with Roger telling Pete to make the Clearasil account go away because it was a conflict of interest with the more lucrative Pond’s account. Clearasil, if you’ll remember, falls under the umbrella of Pete’s father-in-law’s company, Vicks Chemical.

But Pete failed to break the bad news when his father-in-law dropped a bombshell of his own: Trudy, after years of trying, is finally pregnant with the couple’s first child. (Well, Trudy’s first child. Pete and Peggy’s lovechild is still out there, somewhere, waiting for their inevitable reunion. Or maybe that’s just me.)

Eric and Pam were thwarted in their attempt to flee Shreveport when Eric was taken into custody and questioned about the Magister’s disappearance. He told his tale of woe to resident ball buster Nan Flanagan and the Authority – a mysterious panel of unseen vamps present via webcam.

I spent the majority of this scene trying to figure out if Pam was wearing fuchsia Uggs. Anyhow, the gist of Eric’s testimony was this: Russell’s terrible.

Fans, yesterday we watched an episode of our beloved "Entourage” with the knowledge that the show will soon be no more, a day perhaps more popularly known as the first day of the rest of our “Entourage”-watching lives.

Just like I watched last night's episode with renewed resolve after the announcement that the show would end next summer, the writers seemed to sense that renewal, and I thought they delivered a downright sexy, vintage episode.

When we last saw Vince at the conclusion of last week's show, "Hair,” he was in much-less-than-vintage shape, lying face down on the side of the pool in his birthday suit. In last week's blog, we spoke on Vince's downward spiral, and a few readers openly guessed exactly what was in the Avion tequila Vince and everyone else seemed to be so in love with.

Even the strictest dieters know when to take a treat break, and Drew Carey is one of them - after knocking out a 10k race, the newly trim "Price Is Right" host cooled down with a taste of something sweet.

“Just completed my first 10k in almost 25 years,” Carey tweeted Sunday, noting that he finished with a “sub-60” time.

And as a reward for his effort, he added, “Then I had my first ice cream since January.”
