Matthew Perry returns to the small screenMatthew Perry may have played lovable quipster Chandler Bing on the '90s sitcom "Friends," but off-screen, Perry said he was kind of a jerk. At a Television Critics Association event promoting his fall ABC sitcom "Mr. Sunshine," in which he plays an unlikable, self-centered sports-arena owner, Perry, who also co-wrote the series, told reporters Sunday, "They say, hey, write what you know. The reason that my character has only thought about himself is I knew somebody for whom that was the case for a long time." But, the 40-year-old actor added, "I'm much nicer now."
In fact, a humbled Perry even poked fun of his fizzling film career. "You can tell how successful the movies are," he told reporters, "by the fact that I'm here." Meanwhile, Perry's former co-star Jennifer Aniston is set to return to the small screen as well. Entertainment Weekly reports that 41-year-old Aniston - whose movie "The Switch" hits theaters Aug. 20 - is close to signing a deal to reunite with "Friends" BFF Courteney Cox, 46, for an episode of ABC's "Cougar Town" next season. The women previously paired up on Cox's FX series "Dirt" in 2007. |
