Behind the Scenes on 'Showbiz Tonight': Should Obama have done 'The View'?

Today President Obama pulled off a presidential feat that had yet to be done: He became the first sitting President to appear on a daytime talk show by joining the ladies of “The View.”

Some think he’s trying to garner up support from the soccer moms, and the "Showbiz Tonight" team is looking into criticism that the President shouldn't have gone on a talk show. Was it wrong for the President to go on “The View”? That's the debate we'll be digging into today.

President Obama also delivered a whopper revelation today when he told the ladies of “The View” that he wasn’t invited to Chelsea Clinton’s wedding! What’s that about? Was it a big snub from the Clintons, or a smart move? "Showbiz Tonight" producer Jenny D’Attoma thought the decision was spot-on, saying this morning, “I’m glad President Obama wasn’t invited to the wedding because it’s Chelsea’s day.”

Whether or not you agree with the President’s decision to appear on “The View," you have to admit that the curiosity factor about his visit is sky high. So on "Showbiz Tonight," HLN’s own Joy Behar will be on the show with an unprecedented behind-the-scenes look at President Obama’s visit to “The View!" You do not want to miss this exclusive insight into the President’s daytime talk adventure.

Also on our radar today: Leonardo DiCaprio is reportedly pulling out of a movie with Mel Gibson. And - you may want to cover your ears - Michael Lohan has written and recorded a song dedicated to his jailbird daughter Lindsay. It’s enough to bring tears to your eyes, and not necessarily tears of joy. I’m thinking Michael Lohan shouldn’t quit his day job...

What do you think about any of these stories? Post here and send us your "Showbiz" iReport videos. We’ll try to work some of your comments into the show…

Watch "Showbiz Tonight" live at 5 p.m. ET on HLN today. And remember, we’re still TV’s most provocative entertainment news show seven days a week at 11 p.m. ET/PT!

Where where these thousands of tea partiers when Bush was running a sky rocketing national debt and lying to the country about the reason for going to war? Where was all this racial stuff from fox news when Bush was in office? There was none.
These republicans will always find something wrong with whatever the president does and try to get the public on their side by sending hundreds of their tea parties to the message boards. They have an agenda and that is to get back into office. They will not allow President Obama to do anything such as pass the health care bill that will gain the publics approval and reelect him and the democrats back into office

Yes, OUR (including yours) president is half white and half black. However, our country, which you support so fervently, does not recognize him as being a white man. Any citizen with at least 1/4 blood of African decent is considered BLACK. Period. But, as a very multi-cultural and diverse person myself, I like to to quote someone in saying: "My president is black–in fact, he's half white. So, even in a racist's mind, he's half right." You can Google this later. As far as Flavor Flav goes, and being a proud and educated BLACK person myself who has SEVERAL white friends and those of other races, I DO NOT WATCH THIS sad excuse for a black man's show. However, you and your friend JDB seem to be quite familiar with it. I assure you that Pres. Obama has either done what needed to be done to save your job or get you another one. If you are both working right now, BE GRATEFUL AND, for lack of a better phrase for either of you: KICK ROCKS!!! OBAMA 2012!!!

He should get his own reality show. He's not working for the middle class anyway. The type of people that voted for him are the type of people that watch Flava Flave everytime VH1 gives him a new show.

What's the big deal? Everyone wants to pretend that our country WAS so great before President Obama! We definitely know that isn't true. At the end of the day I believe everything still goes back to race. I believe everyone is being so negative because he's black! Bush didn't do any better and he's the reason America hit a crisis! Obama did well and he can't please everyone! Honestly, how was he wrong for appearing on a talk show? I rather see him out speaking on behalf of everyday concerns of the people instead of somewhere hiding behind the white house doors enjoying a cigar!

He's only half black. He's also half white. Therefore your argument holds no water. Fail.

WHEN IS HE GOING TO STOP THINKING HE'S AN ACTOR AND RUN THE DAMN COUNTRY ALREADY. IN CALIFORNIA WE HAVE AN ACTOR WHO'S A WANNA BE GOVERNOR, AND THE WHITE HOUSE HAS A PRESIDENT WHO IS A WANNA BE ACTOR. WHAT A JOKE....AND WHEN YOUR GIRLS COME OF AGE SEND THEM OVER TO DIE LIKE OUR BOYS ARE.

I am so tired of seeing this sitting President, equate his position to a celebrity. It has to stop. It is getting old.
I understand he is the peoples president, but enough is enough. The job is running the country, not American Idol or any other reality TV show staring the President. Unfortunately, I always saw Bush as a joke, but guess what he was smart enough to keep the role of President without thinking that he had to be on TV every other week unless it was in the oval office.
LEts bring the word Presidential back into the White House!!!

A new low for an American President. Presidents, this president or any other president, should not be on any shows. Presidents should, however, meet with the press corps on a regular basis and answer their questions. President Obama can do all the shows and movies he wants when he is booted out of office in 2012.

Obviously a Republican and a hater! Hahaha. A President should not be on any shows? A President trying to connect with us common folk??? Oh no!!!

It's sad that LQ equates the "View" with us "common folk.: They don't represent me LQ.

I am glad he went on The View. I don't like him or his actions or beliefs, but, now he is more accessible and more real. The "old school" stating that it is not appropriate need to grow up and move on up to this century with us. The President is NOT "ABOVE" us and too good for such interviews. Those who think he should 'stay in his place', not sink down to our level so to speak, are just WRONG.

The "View" isn't an interview, it's a bunch of yapping Hollywood women who don't represent America. A better forum would be with representatives from several cable news networks (including Fox and MSNBC) who could ask more important questions; not questions about Lindsey Lohan or Snookie, that demeans our country and our President.

I truly love my President. He is doing a great job. The only thing is that he should have had a big stick to get his point accross with the republicans. What ever you decide Mr President I am with you!

Sad that you follow someone so blindly. Let me guess... you didn't graduate from high school, you're unemployed with six kids and on welfare and nothing Obama does is wrong. Good for you. I only hope that you're around to see Mr. Obama strip away all of our freedoms and drive this country into a bankruptcy that we will never recover from.

What is with the big stick? And you are with whatever he decides? Really? Even before you know what it is? That's a dumb move for anyone. Such actions demonstrate an inability to think for yourself and its a sad time when you would want someone else to make your decisions for you.

Yes, it's fine if Obama appears on "The View".
He should do more television, and maybe even appear in movies.
    Politics just isn't his forte.

I, myself don't care see more of a human side to him or any other side ! What I care is how bad Obama has done the United Sates Citizens !

I see nothing wrong with President Obama being a guest on the View. So what? If that is one way of getting a message out to the people, then by all means do it. It also lets the public see more of a human side to him, how he keeps up with other hot topics, not just the wars or other political headlines. Remember...when he was running for President, he was all about using the internet as a means of reaching out to people...so let him do what he does best. No matter what this President does, there will always be haters that will find fault. It just goes to show that you can't please everyone.

As far as not being invited to Chelsea's wedding, that should not offend him or his wife. Hillary and Bill are not his biggest fans anyway and its their daughter's day. Let her have it! There will be more than enough security and secret service around and it would be much worse if he were to go.

"...how he keeps up with other hot topics, not just the wars or other political headlines."? Seriously? He isn't keeping up with the war or many other important polital topics, as a matter of fact. He's too busy with Obamacare and spouting untruths.
