Just when the “Showbiz Tonight” staff thought we'd heard all the tapes with the alleged voice of Mel Gibson absolutely tearing into the mother of his love child, Oksana Grigorieva, out pops a third. CNN has not independently confirmed the authenticity of the recordings.
In the tapes we’ve heard so far, the breathless man purported to be Gibson screams with piercing rage and seems to threaten Grigrorieva saying, “I'll put you in the f*****g rose garden, you c***!” He also launches into a rant where he drops the n-word as well as statements degrading to women. Then in the third audio released today, the male voice uses the term “w******s” in an argument over an employee who takes care of a child.
If you were sitting in our morning meeting today, you’d be hard-pressed to find a staffer who would defend Gibson's alleged actions and words in those tapes, but today, there are actually people who say Gibson's not entirely at fault (if it proves to be his voice).
Despite the alleged racial rants, Whoopi Goldberg has said she doesn’t believe Gibson’s a racist, and psychologists all over the airwaves believe he might actually have a severe mental ailment that needs to be addressed immediately.
When we asked in the “Showbiz Tonight” exclusive poll if Gibson is done in Hollywood, nearly a third of the voters said no! Even commenters right here on the Marquee blog defended Gibson. Michael posted, “There is certainly a lot of pent-up hostility in Hollywood… Gibson has literally become a human punching bag for the entire industry yet folks like Roman Polanski get a free pass. Go figure.”
And then there are those who question whether Gibson’s ex, Grigorieva - who denies releasing the tapes - may have set him up for leverage in a bitter custody battle over their love child.
So, do these defenses change your perspective on Gibson’s big mess today? We’re calling in the experts tonight for one fired-up defending Gibson debate.
In more legal drama, Sandra Bullock is in the news again thanks to Jesse James’ porn star ex-wife, Janine Lindemulder. Bullock is being dragged into their custody fight over their daughter, Sunny, who Bullock had been a stepmother to throughout her marriage to James.
In court papers just filed, Lindemulder is outraged that James is moving with Sunny to Austin, Texas, to be closer to Bullock. Lindemulder alleges that Bullock tried to turn Sunny against her and says the actress would’ve stayed in California if she really wanted to be close to Sunny. So, the big question today: Is this unfair for Bullock to be dragged through the mud in James’ custody dispute with his ex-wife in the first place?
