Madonna to Lourdes: Watch those hemlines!Madonna has never been shy about showing a little skin, but she’s got a different set of rules for her daughter Lourdes. “Sometimes she puts something on, and I'll be like, ‘My God, that looks amazing!’ And then I'll go, ‘Oh my god, that's my 13-year-old daughter,’” she told Teen Vogue. While Lourdes is allowed to wear makeup to special events, “there's always a little bit of a discussion about how short the skirt is... or is there some cleavage showing,” explained Madonna, 51. “And I always say to her, do you want everybody to be staring at your breasts, or do you want people to talk to you?”
Just like her mother, Lourdes likes her attire to be a bit edgy. "Lola will leave in the morning with a pair of tights on,” the singer noted.“Then when she comes home, they're all ripped. I'm like, 'What happened?' And she goes, 'I did it on purpose, Mom.' OK, then." While the entertainer controls what her daughter wears at home, she let her have free reign when they designed their Material Girl juniors collection for Macy’s, which debuts in August. “I didn't really do anything," the star claimed. "I couldn't even say it was a collaboration. It was 90 percent Lola.” In creating the Material Girl line, Lourdes drew heavily on items from her mom's closet –- just as she does for her own everyday street wear. "She steals from my closet all the time,” says Madonna, “whether she's allowed to or not.” And does Madonna ever borrow from her baby? “Um, yeah,” she confesses. “She's got some really cool flat boots and I steal her Converse sneakers." |

I was a stand-in for four months on the film "The Next Best Thing" and got to spend a lot of time with Lola. She was just a child at the time, as was I, but we got a long great. I will say this for Madonna, she is one of the best mothers I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. She was involved with everything from her food to where she was going and who she was going with. Madonna is a person, with feelings. Remember that. Lola also has a bright future ahead of her. She's surrounded with people who care and love her.

Pretty sure the phrase is "free REIN," like you might give to a horse - not "free reign," as a king may enjoy. The "free" part doesn't really work with the latter.
Lourdes is gorgeous-wow! And it is so eerie how she has some of Madonna's features.. brows included! Maybe Madonna wants Lourdes to learn from some of her mistakes when she was younger... there is nothing wrong with that. Hypocrite, well maybe but we all do stuff we preach against. For those saying Madonna is double standard with her daughter.... At age 13 Madonna went to an all girls Catholic School, she graduated high school a straight A student and received a dance scholarship. All her scandal and controversy has been calculated and very well executed. She is a genius. Which is why she is where she is and we are all commenting on her life and parenting decisions!
Right. Luck had nothing to do with it. Hard work, calculation alright. Screwing anything that moved with a contract. Screwing over anyone that got in her way. She put one foot in front of the other. When she got attention, she kept moving. Lots of people do that, just not at the expense of losing friends, relatives, respect for oneself, integrity, etc., etc.
What's the big deal here? Madonna today is grown up. She has 2 children of her own [from 2 different fathers] and a few adopted childen, and she seems to be a really good mother. She's even penned a few wonderful childrens' books. She's an involved parent. This has nothing to do with what she did at the same age as Lourdes. Madonna isn't a hypocrite about this. She's smart because she's teaching her daughter to do better. And anyone who blames a young Madanna because their kids didn't turn out right is barking up the wrong tree. A child's parents are responsible for the upbringing of their children, not pop icons.
Where is Lourde's dad? Or was he bought out $$$$ and retired to the stables? What a shame, but then again, would never want Madona for a mother. Trashy and plastic. I pitty the kid.
Lourdes' father was Madonna's personal trainer at the time. And if you don't know that, then you must have been in kindergarden when it hit the news. And just how do YOU know whether or not the girl is in touch with her father or not?
There's plenty of recent pics of her with her father and of Madonna jogging with him. They are great friends, raising her together. He's also an actor. He was in the series OZ on HBO.

Madonna is a hypocrite and a fraud. When she was slinging her body around half-naked (and naked) and influencing millions of young women, that was OK. That was entertainment. But when it comes to her daughter, the proprieties and decencies need to be kept. I wish she’d have expressed that sort of moral commitment in regard to other people’s children rather than taking the tramp route for money and fame.

If I had a 13-year-old daughter, I, too, would be telling her to cover up more. It's not about "do as I say, not as I do", it's about having your child dress her age and act her age. None of us know Madonna, none of us grew up with her and none of us know what it's like to have her as a mother. I know a lot of you hate Madonna and will use every opportunity to spew your judgement on her, but did you ever stop to ask yourself why? And did you come up with a good reason? Probably not. Your energy is better spent hating on someone like Osama bin Laden than on Madonna.

Alot of parents did things in their youth that wasn't cool. If they try to steer their kids to not make the same mistakes, that means they learned something. Madonna seems to be doing a wonderful job by balancing her decisions about her daughter, for example, by giving Lourdes some freedom to make her own decisions, and at the same time, setting some limits. It's a delicate balance for a parent to let their child make decisions and make them feel like they are growing into adulthood while at the same time keeping a protective eye over them. The importance of involved parenting in this country is grossly underrated.
This is an asinine comment. Any parent worth a damn is going to be a "do as I say, not as I do" hypocrite. I don't know about you, but when I look back on my younger days...even up until my mid-to-late 20's, there are a LOT of things I did that I hope my children don't do, and that I will tell them "Hey...don't do that". ESPECIALLY at age 13.

I guess you must be living in a time wrap because if you looked at images of Madonna taken during her real life time, you would notice that she dresses quite conservatively. How she dresses on stage is part of her act. Actually, it must be nice to have a mom who has the time to spend with you and who is financially secure. A lot of kids today don't even have that.
