It's been a rough week for comic book fans. First there was DC Comics' decision to swap Wonder Woman’s bustier for a pair of skin-tight pants, and then the announcement came of who would don the Spider-man suit instead of Tobey Maguire in the movie franchise's next installment.
Hundreds of fans shared their input on the Marquee Blog when they heard that “Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus” actor Andrew Garfield had nabbed the role of Peter Parker in the upcoming “Spider-man” reboot.
“He's actually a good actor, but he's not right for this role,” CNN commenter SaintPetersburg wrote. “Every role he has played he had this obnoxious bratty quality … that doesn’t fit Spider-man.”
Many commenters followed suit, saying they’d prefer it if Maguire reprised the role, or that the part should have been handed to “Community’s” Donald Glover.
“Donald Glover for Spider-man! That is what this reboot needs! Seriously, the guy is awesome on 'Community' and has the charisma to carry the role,” commenter A real fan wrote.
But some fans are satisfied with the 26-year-old Brit taking over.
“I was dubious about a change from Tobey Maguire, but I think this guy has the chops to pull off Peter Parker - certainly better than the other candidates for the role,” Hawaiikaos wrote.
What do you think - did casting get it right?
