Was Andrew Garfield the best choice for 'Spider-man'?

It's been a rough week for comic book fans. First there was DC Comics' decision to swap Wonder Woman’s bustier for a pair of skin-tight pants, and then the announcement came of who would don the Spider-man suit instead of Tobey Maguire in the movie franchise's next installment.

Hundreds of fans shared their input on the Marquee Blog when they heard that “Imaginarium of Doctor Parnassus” actor Andrew Garfield had nabbed the role of Peter Parker in the upcoming “Spider-man” reboot.

“He's actually a good actor, but he's not right for this role,” CNN commenter SaintPetersburg wrote. “Every role he has played he had this obnoxious bratty quality … that doesn’t fit Spider-man.”

Many commenters followed suit, saying they’d prefer it if Maguire reprised the role, or that the part should have been handed to “Community’s” Donald Glover.

“Donald Glover for Spider-man! That is what this reboot needs! Seriously, the guy is awesome on 'Community' and has the charisma to carry the role,” commenter A real fan wrote.

But some fans are satisfied with the 26-year-old Brit taking over.

“I was dubious about a change from Tobey Maguire, but I think this guy has the chops to pull off Peter Parker - certainly better than the other candidates for the role,” Hawaiikaos wrote.

What do you think - did casting get it right?

This is what the opinions should read-

"Since he is an actor, we'll have to see how he does. After all, just how many "bad" casting choices have been made over the years that have turned out fine? An actors job is to act. Let's see how he does."
It is ridiculous to try and figure out how this guy will do. He isn't well known and the work he's done so far is pretty good. Attempting to fortell the future is stupid.

Personally, I just hope the re-boot allows a better job of casting and portraying Mary Jane Watson. Kirsten Dunst is a fine actress, but her MJ was nowhere near the vibrant, flirtatious and fun-loving character in the comics (at least the Lee-Romita ones). And while they're re-booting, maybe we'll get a more nuanced Flash Thompson and, Puh-leeze, no more "girlfriend gets taken hostage" storylines, which were in all 3 Spidey movies, but very rare in the comic. MJ does not = Lois Lane!

"CNN Commenter SaintPetersburg wrote" lol. So do I print this out and put it up on my fridge, or something?

As far as tobey I thought he was a great fit in comparison to the tv version of peter parker and should be atleast offered the role to carry on the story line as is.As far as a reboot it is to early and will only be compared to maguire movies and ultimately flop like a fish at the box office. Now for garfield stepping in as peter parker go ahead but i'm telling you now reboot or not the movie will be a big waste of time, money, and not to mention film it will be like george cloony in black rubber which killed that franchise.

Tobey never did show that funny heckler side of Spiderman did he. Maybe this kid will. Not sure about the whole reboot idea. They should just keep going with the original trilogy timeline. Having the Lizard as the main villain would tie into the original trilogy, sseing as how the character has already made cameos in parts 2 and 3.

Hope this next Spidey film is better than the last.

I think the media are morons and don't know who Peter Parker is at all. Also, Sam Raimi subjected us to a wussy-non engaging Peter Parker that movie goers THOUGHT was how Peter Parker should be portayed. Suddenly the wooden stare into the headlights no personality Tobey Maguire is gone and people cry over it?

Please, thank goodness they picked an actor with spunk. Perhaps this time we will all get a truer interpretation to Peter Parker.

Donald Glover? What a slap in the face, and bad joke.

Good casting, although most of the mindless dolts out there, will think otherwise.

It really doesn't matter who they cast....a reboot of this scale this early is a terrible idea.
