Ah, puppy love! In an exclusive interview in the August issue of Teen Vogue, Disney darlings Joe Jonas and Demi Lovato open up about their red-hot romance – less than 48 hours before they split.
“I had always fancied him,” Lovato, 17, says of “Camp Rock” co-star Jonas, 20. “Want to know what actually happened? One night I asked him, ‘What is the deal? We're perfect for each other. What are you doing?’ And he was like, ‘This is really awkward. I have to go.’"
Jonas tells the magazine he needed time to think, while Lovato admits she freaked out that the friendship was ruined. “But then the next day,” she says, “he came knocking at my door.” Explains the middle JoBro, “Once she confronted me, I kind of confronted myself.”
Lovato admits that prior to landing her man, it wasn’t easy watching him engage in high-profile romances with beauties like Taylor Swift and Camilla Belle. “Every girlfriend he had, I always wanted to have a friendship with, because I felt like if she was worthy enough to be with him, then she must be great,” the pretty brunette tells Teen Vogue. “It sucked, watching, but I was always happy for him.”
But just like those women, Lovato has been dumped by the teen heartthrob: Less than 48 hours after their interview, the pair - who went public with their romance in March - called it quits. “It could have been better timing, but there’s never really a good time for something like that,” Jonas, who kicks off a summer tour with his former flame on July 27, tells Teen Vogue.
For her part, Lovato, who publicly confirmed in May that the relationship was over, says it was Jonas’s decision to end things. "We haven't spent any time together since everything, because that would be awkward, but I'm sure things will go totally back to normal once we're on tour together,” she tells the magazine. “It's just that at this point I'd rather be hanging out with my girlfriends than seeing my ex."
