Being a celebrity may have its perks, but as Jason Bateman learned, that’s not always a good thing.
The actor was one of more than 2,000 people who lined up outside an Apple store in L.A. yesterday to purchase the highly coveted new iPhone 4. But the Hollywood star didn’t spend much time among the little people – Us Weekly reports that the former “Arrested Development” star, 41, was escorted out of line and into the store.
“Everyone literally started booing and hissing,” an eyewitness told the magazine of the angry mob. And Bateman’s reaction? “He put his head down,” another onlooker said.
Is there an app for saying “I’m sorry”?
A celebrity gets special treatment. Ahem...what's the news here?
How come he is not cutting in line to donate blood, or to go to the war?
Oh I cannot remember now who it was - some male actor a couple of years ago, same thing - the first iPhone came out and the store personnel invited him to cut the line and he refused to do so.
what a jerk...apparently he thinks he's better than anyone else.... good luck on that next movie you make.
Shame on both the store for escorting him in, and Jason for allowing it! He's no better than the rest of the people just because he's famous. This sort of thing ticks me off! If I owned that store, he would have waited just like anybody else in that line!
You really would make him wait in line? Essentially, then, next time he wants to buy an Apple product he'd go to some other store and you'd lose some free publicity. I think what people are losing sight of is the fact that people actually waited in line (some overnight) to get a phone.
How is anyone surprised. One, It's L.A. And Two, celebs don't wait in lines to go into clubs, restaurants, get on planes, or anything so why would getting an iPhone be any different? I'm surprised he went himself though and not some assistant or a rep or something.
these are hysterical...at first thought one wonders why can't celebs do everything else normal people do? But I agree with Ella Jay! Order it! HELLO!!! ding ding ding...and yes this new phone IS NOT important...Food is important..Clothing is important..new technology bound with glitches is NOT a necessity :)
bwaahahahahaha!! this is news? this is important?! i'm LMRPAO because i don't even know which angle to go from.
he's a celebrity, get over it
why are you people standing in line instead of going online and ordering them? oh wait .. .because it makes you feel important to have something that everybody else doesn't have. . . . kinda like the juice to get asked to the front of the line.
heh heh heh
this is not news and i could care less. CNN needs better reporters!
What he needs is a little Caged Wisdom.
peeps who stand in line for anything r LOSERS!!!
the public should have torn that store apart when the staff let jason in.
I saw the ghost a Gary Coleman cut in front of every one and "float" in first
Poor people making lines to get a freaking phone...get a life, stop acting stupid!! My advised is whenever a new gadget comes out, like a new phone, wait a few weeks or months so give the manufacturer some time to workout the 100 glitches it will have, and all the numb nuts that got it first thinking it's soooo cool. I'm glad you got all cut in front by a celebrity, but that guys is as lame as the ones that wait in lines like that. Society sucks most times.
Some one actually recognizing this guy is more amazing.
Steve Wozniak doesn't even cut in line, what makes Jason bateman think he has a right to
If you are silly enough to stand in a gigantic line to be the first to own a gadget that will be obsolete in a couple of weeks then Jason Bateman should dis you. Whoever he is.
So, should the guy in the 5000 dollar suit wait in line behind a bunch of guys who don't make that in a month? COME ON.
Why didn't he just hire someone to "seat fill" on line if he was too impatient to do so himself?
Good thing there were no Israeli soldiers there. They would have shot anyone who jeered Jason that looked remotely Arab. Mr. Bateman is one of God's Chosen. WHy should he have to wait in line?
johnny orlando is right! i'd let justine slide, tho...where is she, anyway?
Jason bateman isnt a big enough celebrity to get away with that. Michael jordan or oprah would be allowed, but jason bateman is just plain crap
Wow... I read all those. Funny S. Why doesn't Apple just mail the stars phones the day before. Also, doesn't Jason Bateman have an assistance for this type of thing?
It was likely in the store's best interest to move Mr. Bateman inside, rather than have mobs of people hounding a celebrity outside in addition to the large crowds already waiting to purchase a phone. It doesn't mean he's bigger or better than anyone else, just that others aren't likely to cause more crowding, or to be hassled by other customers. Those hissing and booing proved while it was necessary.
seems to me if the Apple store let him do it, then shouldn't they be booed and hissed at too?
I hope no one commenting on this is worked up over it. Go home, put your kids in bed. Tell them Jason is a bad bad man because the news said so.
I do not think this is a big deal at all. From your article, it sounds like he was standing in line and was brought into the store by an employee. What I think is wrong is the photo that you use to promote this article...a photo showing Bateman smirking, with his hands in the air. The only thing missing is a "whoot whoot". But in reality, he went into the store with his head down...shame on you CNN!
Hey, whatever happened to Arrested Development? I heard it got canceled because Bateman cut in line at the Banana Stand in Newport Beach and the city revoked their filming permit. (or because no one watched the show)
None of this matters. We are all destined for the same fate. No one will escape.
Seriously, some people need to use spellcheck as obviously many of the people making comments never made it to first grade alphabet day. Good for Mr. Bateman for waiting in line like everyone else. Bad for the store pulling in him like he's more important than everyone else in line with the same cash for the same product. Bad for the people acting like they were in line for a life-saving blood transfusion.....it's just a phone people.....it's not clean air, a new kidney, cash to pay off those credit card bills, a better education, or a clean Gulf. In a few months a new product will come out that will make that new iPhone you just bought totally obsolete.
He should be ashame of himself. If he can't stand in line like everyone else than I can't spend my money to buy a ticket to his movies.
We just say "Manager"
Steve Jobs used his riches and celebrity to jump ahead in line for a human organ, so in a world that's fine with that, who cares who jumped a line for a cell phone purchase?
I don't understand why he was was given preference in the first place I am sure he was surprised someone recognized him. Can yo say has-been?
He now qualifies to work for BP because he,s no longer one of the "little people".
I don't know who is more pathetic, Jason Bateman for cutting in front of 2000 people, or the 2000 people standing in line.
I hope they send the police after him ... and a construction worker.
I mean every person I went ahead of!!!! Oh you know what I mean!!!
I mean every persobn I went ahead of!!!! Oh you know what I mean!!!
If I were Jason Bateman or Cany Spelling I would have gone to the head of the line too BUT I would have paid for the iPhone I've every person ahead of me. What a publicity opportunity missed.
I mean every person I got ahead of. I thiunk. Oh, you all know what I mean.
Hope they did not have the nerve to charge him for the phone!!!!!!!!!!!
Of COURSE they charged him! They're AT&T and APPLE for God's sake! You wouldn't want Steve Jobs to miss a payment on his new liver, would you? Oh, the humanity!
I never heard of Jason Bateman until just now.
Me too, so I don't understand why I'm making a comment. I must be a comment troller. Egads.
Should Bateman not have been allowed to cut in line? Perhaps. But these idiots can't blame Bateman for the fact that they're stupid enough to spend all day in line for a new phone. If these people had a life they wouldn't be wasting their day in the first place. They could wait a few weeks, or (gasp) even a month and they could then stroll right into the store like Jason Bateman.
ja rule cut the line in montvale nj but he was gentleman enough to by the person's spot for 4 hundred dollars....
Wait..did you all read the entire article?? They escorted him into the building.. sounds like AT&T was star-struck. They say even bad publicity is publicity.. so now all the world knows that Jason Bateman has an iPhone. Get the new Droid with Verizon.. At least with Verizon you can actually make a call while waiting 16 hours in line...
GEE! No jobs, no unemployment extentions, economy hits bottom, but folks can stand in line and buy these phones. I can just hear the Obama bashers in line now. Tough economy. Obama's fault. Or maybe a line full of repubs.
Waited 12 hours in line for the new iPhone. Then, on the way home, iMugged. Now, iBroke. File Under: iStupid.I also waited in line for 5 hours for the Tickle me Elmo, and then in the 80's I waited 6 hours for the Cabbage Patch doll. I spend all my life working to pay for these things, and then waiting in line to get them.
wah wah wah u icrap fanatics are stupid. u got your device so stop your whining. it YOUR fault u stood in line because u wanted that stupid phone on release day. blame yourself u ignorant greedy idiots. goto ebay and buy one $900.
Pretty crummy. What a slimey slug! Didn't want to stand in line like the rest of us "little people", huh?
Hey, at least he was waiting in line just like you and me. It's not his fault he's a totally hot fox who was recognized by somebody and pulled to the front. Go Mr. Bateman! go!
Could have just called Jobs with his iphone 3 and had it delivered.... Celebrities cant think they need agents for that... mmm thinking about it why did he not send his agent to stand in line......
neither of those things is important to me but he should not have cut. someone should have fought him
'Cuz you gotta fight for your right to iParty!
Wow, stop the presses! Some sorta famous guy got to skip a line somewhere for some trendy crap, and everyone booed! OMG!
He can't be that big of a celeb if he had to wait in line. He should have sent his assistant.
I cant believe you midless idiots line up 16 hours or more for a FU%$! phone! or any product! He just assumed like me that your all just stupid mouth breathers and took cuts. OOh I got to be the first one to have a material thing, BIG DEAL! I hope it breaks down due to glitches. I may get it when its half the price, but I really dont care, as long as I can hear the other person on the end of the line...... fools
Now if it was PATRICK Bateman, would anyone have complained?
You know that if you were given the option to cut in front of people waiting in line for something, you'd do it too. Everyone who booed him was just jealous. Give it up.
Bring back Arrested Development!!!!
Why does it hurt when i pee?
Because youre boyfriend still has his mouth on it when you pee.
But that's the only time it doesnt hurt is when his mouth is on it
It's because your holding your phone wrong.
They say put a rubber on it and that shoud fix the issue
Because your name is Joran?
You probably have UTI. That's quite common if its the first time. If its not the first time you probably have a more sizeable version of UTI. Get a check up done before it gets worse.
This is way more important than that oil leak in the gulf. Wonder what Obama's take on this is?
He should have bought everyone a Lion Burger to say he was sorry for cutting.
He is what the public made him. So long as the "little people" keep placing these "celebrities" up on any kind of pedestal, they will always use that pedestal to look down upon everyone else. So if he was allowed to go first and no one violently protested and tore down the store or dragged him out by his tiddlywinks, they have nothing to complain about. So long as people accept the role of the "little people" they will be nothing else.
I'd let him cut in front of me, for the following: A hug, an autograph, and a picture. And on the way out, I'd expect a polite thank you kiss on my cheek. I'm sorry but I like Jason Bateman and I'd let him cut in front of me in almost any line. The hug would make my day, the autograph so I have something to look back on over the years, and a pic with him and I to prove to people that yes I did really meet him. But that's just me.
I thought it said "Batman Booed After Cutting iPhone Line."
Batman made Robin wait in line for him. So did Alfred. And Catwoman.
Money always sucks off money
You talkin' about the money with the googly eyes?
If this clown were anybody special...he would have already had his assistant get the phone/skip the line for him!
You are right, and you made me laugh!
My phone was waiting by my front door at 12:30 P.M. when I got home for lunch.
Maybe it was just a hungry stray.
waiting in line with 2000 people is pretty desparate in the first place, just wait a couple of weeks to get the darn phone and not wait in line! wonder how many people skipped work/school for this. very sad. rollseyes. lol
... so what...?
I stood in line for Star Wars Episode 1 for 2 weeks. TWO WEEKS. And Alice Cooper was able to skip the line and be seated before everyone else. Did we boo him? No. It was awesome to have him in our theatre. A lot of folks went up to talk to him before the movie began.
Apple fans booing Bateman for getting in first–which was probably more about security/safety than popularity–I think is a testament to their character.
So what? he made me laugh with tears in my eyes in Arrested Development and all the movies he's been in. What if he gets some priorirty? you become that famous, you gotta have some perks!!!! He deserves it!!
The phone became obsolete 10 minutes after Bateman walked out of the store....
Is this news? Seriously this is "hot news" on the home page? Jesus....
Go Jason Bateman. This just shows that he has a life unlike all the people who wait in line for a dumb phone.
Hey, what's the point of celebrity perks if you don't use them?
Maybe someone in front of him iFarted and he couldn"t take it no mo'
I am SCREAMING with laughter!! I love it!!
How does Jason Bateman not have an assistant who could have pre-ordered it online so he didn't even have to go there? Moron...
What a LOZR!!!
correction: I have always LIKED Jason Bateman but I will say this...
Sorry, misspellings and poor grammar annoy me – just like line cutters and people who leave the scene of accidents...
If he expected to cut, or asked to cut, that would be pretty low. However, since he was waiting in line- with everyone else, not like a snobby celeb- and then was escorted in by an employee, this really isn't that big of a deal.
I don't know what I would do in that situation (although I do know I would never wait in a long line for a stupid phone to begin with). I think it's rude to cut line for any reason but then I'm not famous and surrounded by 2,000 people who probably won't leave me alone. I have always like Jason Bateman but I will say this:
I remember seeing an episode of Punk'd where he and a friend were in a restaurant parking lot and hit a car. If I recall correctly, the friend suggested leaving a note or going back inside the restaurant to find the owner but Bateman was like no, let's get the F outta here. I thought was pretty classless, nevermind illegal.
@ Roy – Your comment is hysterical. Loved me some Little House.
Wow, I hope that this is just a slow news day, and that people do not actually think that a celebrity not waiting in line is news...
Wait, wait, Stop the Presses!! Celebrity does something celebrities do all the time!!!!!!!
What makes him so special....sounds like whomever in that store that let him do it should be fired.....that's a joke
Jason Bateman rocks! You're the idiots standing in line for an iphone. Guess what, your old iphone will still work until next week when you can just walk into the store to buy it or order it online. Did you stand in line for the last ten versions too?
Why exactly would they do that?!! Is he going to buy 2 as opposed to everyone else buying 1? What a bunch of losers to pull crap like that.
If ever a crowd deserved to to plowed into by a runaway car it was this one.
He is one of the cooler cats in Hollywood, he should know better then that. All for a phone?
Don't upset the iZombies or they will eat your brains
I suggest to Mr. Bateman that he donate the phone and services to a needy family. His reputation saved. He would of had a purpose for skipping the line.
Don't hate the playa, hate the game.
Maybe its because they wanted to save him from all the people that were going to harass him.
ok guys first of all, give credit to Jason Bateman for having the decency to decide to stand in line. Its not like he automatically walked into the store expecting an iPhone to be sold to him. Secondly, put yourself in the shoes of the store manager's shoes. How do you know that the higher up's in the comapny wont axe your job by knowingly allowing a celebrity to wait in line...not that it makes it right for him to cut in line, but I wouldnt want to risk my job that way I would have had an employee escort him into the store too.
A bigger man would have said I will wait my turn....
Seems like a smart move for Mr. Bateman would have been to stick it out in line with all of the
Little People, then put in a call to TMZ and milk it for every second of free exposure he could
get, at least then, he might have been seen as one of us...Now, we know he's just another
ass-wipe, self indulgent, wiener celebrity..
"Seems like a smart move for Mr. Bateman would have been to stick it out in line with all of the
Little People, then put in a call to TMZ..."
One problem with your logic...he was in line FOR A PHONE. (not that it would have any reception...)
One of you people made the comment that they'd heard he was a Christian and that since he took a cut in line, that made him a hypocrite. Really?!? Like you wouldn't take a cut in line to NOT have to spend hours in a line? You're the hypocrite!
When his character James was killed off on"Litlle House on the Prairie" I believe it was related to him taking cuts at the General Store in Sleepy Eye. It's been a while since I've seen the episode but if I recall correctly that also involved a phone.
Jerk-off. He's a loser actor anyway. I'm surprised he's been able to come back to the degree he has. I think it would have went a long way for him to stay in line and not cut. Everyone hates a line cutter. Loser.
He bought everyone in front of him in the line a phone.
He put his head down but he didn't get back in line – that says it all.
Would Van Der Sloot get the same treatment being a (somewhat) celebrity?... Let the actor/artist posse and/or agent pick up the phone... Nothing special about celebrities, let them wait like everyone else....
UH Van Der Sloot is NOT a celebrity he is a SERIAL KILLER!!! The comparison makes you an idiot
What a development! He should be arrested!
ba dum bum
Give me a break people!! Celebrities always get the courtesy of cutting a line, whether it be at an amusement park, a restaurant or waiting in line for the new stupid Iphone which will only be new for about a year until another comes out! In any case, there is no reason for him to decline the courtesy of moving up front. Good for him, the only mistake he made was not calling the store ahead of time and doing it privately. Every celebrity gets perks, that's the beauty of being a celebrity! He didnt harm anyone so leave the guy alone!!! There are bigger issues in the world to gripe about. Enjoy your phone Jason!
If he was a real star, he would have had people to go get him his phone. Loser.
Despite his celebrity status, the phone still can't get a signal....
you are hilarious!
Losers the whole lot of you. Anyone who stands in line for hours to get a phone that will be replaced in 6 months with the newer version is an idiot. You are probably the same morons who have to be at Best buy at midnight when that new game or next DVD release of Twilight is released. Jerks, ever last one of you, I hope all the iPhones really do suck as much as the reviews I have read.
“He put his head down,” another onlooker said.
... yeah, and kept right on walkin'.
He could have at least waved and signed autographs or when he came out of the store showed everyone his new phone.
I didn't know Jason was MEXICAN. Waiting in line and walls never apply to Mexicans.
The store probably feared for his sanity having to stand in line with a bunch of losers for 2 hrs waiting for a phone. I used to like Bateman, but not so sure now.. not because he cut in line, but that he would even consider waiting in line with the rest of these losers for it. I guess this is what happens when there are no new Star Wars movies coming out in the next 3 months, these losers have to find another line to stand in. boo yourselves you freaks.
Wait a few days. You will then not have to stand in a line. I found that out when I got my I pad.
What's an IPhone?
I can't stand Jason Bateman or his fuggly sister. I would have tripped him as he walked by. Ooppsss.........Then kicked him.
Would Van Der Sloot get the same treatment being a (somewhat) celebrity?... Let the actor/artist posse and/or agent pick up the phone... Nothing special about celebrities, let them wait like everyone else....
If I was able to cut in line (not that I would have been in that stupid line to begin with), I would have walked out and instantly smashed the new phone off the sidewalk to see how many sad people that place such importance on souless gadgets and trinkets would start crying and screaming like I had just killed a puppy. Silly, social misfits with warped priorities.
I say 'Who cares??'. Do people really think this is the only celebrity or VIP that got this phone (or any other new device) ahead of the regular public?? He just happens to be the one that was caught on camera.
Of course I really don't care because I would never wait in line hours for something like this.
I do not think I will ever be able to watch anything that Jason Bateman stars in again. Not ever. How horrible. There are people starving in the world. We are near the end of the world. And he thinks he is above everyone else! Oh my gosh!
Enlighten me, what in the world does starving people and Jason Bateman getting a phone have in common? So if he didn't do what he did, then there would no longer be starving people. Instead of typing and reading about all of this, shouldn't you be out feeding the starving people. Who knows, he may have given his old phone to a starving person.
Man cannot live on iFood alone.
Whats so special about this guy? I phoned the store and they sent a girl over with mine and she picked up my lunch on her way too
That is too hilarious!!!
Wow. People have screwed up priorities. Waiting in line for a stupid phone. No wonder we're heading down the tube.
The way Hollywood is treated you think what the hell they have contributed to the world...nothing is the answer period...
Did he cut in line or did he wait in the line and only go in at the invitation of the store? If the former, he is wrong. If the latter, should he have said "No, I'll wait my turn??!!" Be real
I was in line right in front of him when they came and pulled him aside. I waited 3 more hrs to find out that the last phone was gone to the person right in front of me. So Michael Bluth has my phone!!!!! Damn you Jason, damn you all to hell!!!!
really....."all to hell" for an iPhone. Wow, you need professional help, seriously. You are one sad person.
oh and Michael doesn't have "your" phone, your phone never existed because they ran out. I think it is hilarious you didn't get one. We are all over here laughing at you.
Who is Jason Bateman?
What an idiot.......I mean for standing in line for an iPhone.
It was only one person cutting in line. Will that one person make everyone stay longer? He may have made a deal with the store and purchased his phone from the manager himself and that would not have affected anyone. Just get a life because all these people who booed will be back at the store soon buying the iphone 5 then 6 then 7.......
Waiting in line for a phone... Where is Triumph the Insult Comic Dog when we need him. "Hello, nerds"
WHat's an iphone?
More pathetic than him cutting line is the fact that so many people willingly stand in line to buy an IPhone. Commercialism at its best, mindless lemmings, it's a damn phone with gadgets, you can live without it or at least wait a little bit. Like a bunch of elementary school kids trying to beat the next one out at show and tell, look what I have. Yeah they're neat but what a damn joke.
He could have refused!!
Please! If I had Jason Bateman status, I would have held my head high and walked right up to the door. We're the ones who put these celebrities on a pedalstal, so there they are!
I can't wait 'till they drop the price in a few weeks and all those people who stood in line and paid full price start whining.
EXACTLY! The smart ones are those who know how to spend their money AND their time well.
Apple is Skynet.
Love Jason Bateman and I would let him cut in line anytime. What is the big deal?
Well, then stop buying from Apple
I still cant believe people line up for products like this...I like my smart phones and staying connected and having access every where I go but I can't believe people want the first of any electronic gadget, they are always plagued with problems and the prices seem to come down if you just wait a while...you get a cheaper product, fewer problems and no lines! No Brainer
Sucks for the guy next in line after the last one was sold... He's probably cursing Bluth like no other.
Hey peeps....stop hatin' on me...I am JASON BATEMAN...and you people must love me to talk so much about me....ME ME ME ME ME...I like how that sounds...ME....I love ME, you love ME, I Jason Bateman and I gotta pee....huggs....I'll call ya on my new ip...
People care about who gets an i-phone?
The parallels between 'The Rise and Fall of the Roman Empire' and what is happening in the USA nowadays becomes more real. As the citizens get more entertainment the world around them collapses. The barbarians are at the gate and nobody notices.
The Roman Empire didn't have cell phones
The Roman Empire actually existed, and it did indeed rise and fall; there is no need to put it in quotation marks. So, are you drawing parallels between the actual Roman Empire, or are you comparing the iPhone farce to Gibbons' written work? Among other reasons for the fall of the empire was the citizens' indifference to civic duty and barbarian invasions.
It is also true that the Roman Empire did not have iPhones, but they did have lead pots that could have led to neurological disorders.
He's not an actor and he's made twenty movies to prove it.
Jason + cut in line because I'm really really important = dooooshhhhh Baaggg
Jason Batemen.....Your new name is Master....
This would not have happened if Hillary Clinton were President.
The perfect example of B.S. media habits. "Cutting" implies Bateman walked up to the line and got in front of somebody who was not saving his space. That's NOT what happened here. He was already in his own space in line and then was escorted out of it. That's DIFFERENT. The iSheep are just mad cuz they couldn't ejaculate earlier. But alas, Marquee Blog accomplished its mission to lure airheads like me into reading this nonessential drivel.
It's been over 2,000 years since the death of Christ. A famous actor skips the long line for an expensive electronic product, much to the chagrin of people still waiting. He hangs his head down in shame, but he's secretly laughing at all of us. Later, his fingers will grasp the cold metal and glass screen in ecstatic triumph. He will go home and call his friends. He'll then use the pool and shower off before eating dinner out. This is the moment western civilization declines and falls.
First you speak of Christ – then you get all judgmental about someone you've never met, even to the point of acting like you know what he was thinking. You have no credibility.
Sheppard: That was my first thought. I was trying to see how Christ even fits into this (the article) or that (the comment).
First, I've been in this position (ability to get ahead of the line due to some stupid VIP perk) and I refused. So don't assume everyone would do this. So some of the blame should go to Bateman.
Second, the largest blame should go to the store. They must think a lot of their average customer if they would do something like this – especially right in front of them. Why would anyone shop there?
Third, it's a freakin' I-Phone. It's not a survival lottery. The fact that people would stand in line this long for something so trivial is just flat-out ludicrous. You realize these long lines are just free PR for Apple, right? And then you shell out massive bucks for something you didn't need anyway. Somehow I don't feel sorry for anyone in this story.
Well put DA.
I'm still waiting for the day when Americans realize that we are not, in fact, all created equal. We act so surprised when "special treatment" is given, as though celebrities would be famous without the demand/consumption of "regular" people.
No one would care if the Pope or Rupert Murdoch got to cut in line. He's a celebrity – celebrities win.
Ben Silverman was allowed by police to step over the bodies of the people in front of him to get to the front of the Apple store on 5th Avenue.
As a celeb myself I do not have time to spend time in line with the common people. I usually send my gardener, or my mansion plant waterer on such mundane tasks. (typed by chauffer).
I am so famous, wealthy, and powerful that I send Jason Bateman into the line to pick up my stuff. He also walks my dog and mows the lawn whenever he is not playing for whatever team in whatever sport he is in.
And we're going to believe that you're famous because......? Please. You're only famous in your own little world. Besides a "chauffer" is the driver of the limo (or w/e car you're in). He/she would not be typing and driving. Besides, why is your chauffer typing anything for you. Especially on cnn blogs?
uh – Anna.... you need to develop your sense of humor or your brain... not necessarily in the order.....
Sheppard: My brain is just fine. It wasn't funny. It was just plain stupid.
GET OVER IT.
I'd cut too. So would you.
like i always have said/all these people think their s.... does not stink/shame on you
i too would skip the line i were famous ... not only that, but i'd wave the middle finger at people who dare boo or hiss at me !!! .|.
i've met his before in the parking lot at a dodgers game, and he was super nice and friendly, and totally excited to meet someone who was watching AD (this was in the beginning when no one was watching). it's not his fault that the apple store deemed him more worthy than others. and i live in LA and work around celebs all the time. often they're treated this way to help keep order and things moving smoothly. when a big celeb is somewhere, it often causes issues with people asking for autographs, taking pics, etc. it may not seem fair, but it's just the way things are done in LA, and more often than not, when i've seen it done, it was to avoid any kind of commotion. you can't blame him for being amenable to special treatment. especially since, unlike most of the idiots in those lines, he probably actually had better things to do! haha!
A friend of mine works at Disney World and they routinely skip celebrities ahead. It's not for special treatment, it's because they cause such a disruption when fan's mob them in line. It ends up holding up the whole line and causes chaos.
who the hell is this guy anyway???....
This is news?? Please, anyone that spends their lives playing fake people truly have no life.
This is news?
Whats sad is that Jason didn't have one of his assistants stand in line while he relaxes at home.
Actually, Jason is MY assistant and I sent him to pick it up for ME. He is also picking up by dry cleaning and getting my car detailed. What sport does he play again?
If anyone should be Booed it would be Apple's store employee that offered special treatment above those who had waited in line longer. It wasn't Jason Bateman that requested to skip.
I love my iPhone and will upgrade to the new phone...but I have never felt the need to do it the first day..or even week..that it comes out. I always wonder if the people who do this have jobs...or lives, for that matter.
I had the opportunity to meet a true class act celebrity once. I knew the veteran cowboy actor Ben Johnson and when he died, hundreds upon hundreds of people were at his funeral. Tom Selleck, who had been in a number of films with Johnson and had genuine affection for the man, attended the funeral but he arrived a bit late and was at the back of the crowd. At the end of the service when all the attendees queued up to pay respects at the casket, Mr. Selleck took his place on line like everyone else. I happened to be the person in front of him. It took us hours to get into the church, but Mr. Selleck never tried to use his star power to skip the line, even though people were even offering to let him go ahead. Like I said, a real class act. Unlike Mr. Bateman.
Funeral – in line for iPhone............. not seeing the relationship here.. what? was an Angel gonna come over to Tom and say – this way? Sorry, Chancy – moronic post...
If you have the money and time to stand in line for hours in the middle of the work day to buy a $300 phone I'd say your life is pretty sweet and you can suffer the hardship of a celebrity line cutter just fine.
Chalk it up to being famous, it's a nice perk if you can get it and keep it.
"So what, who cares?"
The people standing in line. But I'm over it.
Apparently he's not that famous or Apple would have just sent him one. I am sure a lot of celebrities made arrangements ahead of time to get this phone. But if had wait in line, he should have waited his turn.
That is the problem all celebrities can get by with anything they want and nothing happens. They are nothing but a bunch of spoiled, self-centered, & selfish people out there. They want to remember if it wasn't for people such as the ones they walk in front of they wouldn't be anything. Maybe we should stop buying and they will see what it is like to be one of the people they seem to think they can walk in front of. He signed autographs big deal. Try buying what you went in for for all the people you thought you were better than and walked in front of.
he's trying to get offered some roles that are darker and more serious. this was a pitiful publicity stunt to push his "bad boy" image . . . it was the best he could come with bc he's too chiknsht goody 2 shoes for a dui or drug arrest.
Yeah, nothing says "bad boy" like breaking into a line to get an iPhone. That is how Chuck Norris, Clint Eastwood, Michael Madsen, and Lee Marvin went from wimps to manly men.
An iPhone App will be released soon, that will be automatically installed on all the people standing in line at that time. Once installed the user needs to just click on it and give his/her consent to file the lawsuit. The App will immediately send message to Bateman's iPhone (which also has this App automatically installed) on the number of people filling the lawsuit.
Always an App for everything!!!!!
First, you all should stop quoting the article as if he was picked out by an Apple Store employee. How do you know that he did not send his assistant to go tell the Apple employees while he briefly waited in line? Wouldn't that make the most sense? Send your assistant in and have him find out if you can be pulled from the line... I doubt an Apple Store employee legitimately saw him in the line and went "Oh, you should come in." Those lines are long and crowded and he would have to be near the front to be seen. He clearly had someone tell the store that he was waiting in line. That being said, he is a tool for doing that. Also, you think he would have gone by himself to wait in line or have sent an assistant. Given the fact that he would obviously prefer sending a stand-in for himself, and given the fact that he went to the store, does that not imply that he had an assistant with him? Think about it.
I don't think that someone from the Apple store seeing him and asking him to come in any way implies that he had an assistant with him. I'm sure the employees frequently swept the lines to make sure that people were lined up appropriately, so it's incredibly possible someone from Apple would've passed him. When most people send their assistant to wait in line, they don't choose to also wait in line with them, so if he had sent his assistant to take care of it, I doubt he'd be there at all. I know because I used to be one, and I went to the Apple store by myself to get the phone for my boss.
Pass on a chance to blow off an entire line of men? Are you kidding me?
Oh, and shame on the Apple employee who rushed him into the store before everyone else. Jerk
Nailed it. The employee who judged that Jason was more important that everyone else. He should have his picture up here so we can comment on him. Bad bad apple employee. To Jason: bad decision. Time to give to a charity and make it all better.
Yeah, maybe he can donate 10,000 of the older iPhone 3 to a bunch of homeless refugees in Malawi after he adopts 10 kids.
I had to use the bathroom. After the poddy break, I came out and signed autographs, then realized I lost my spot in line, so I went out the backdoor, went home and ordered it online...
Not cool at all. If he didn't want to get chastised for his behavior, he should have had one of his "people" get it for him. Bad, bad, bad celebrity abuse.
Why would you call the people in the line a ANGRY MOB, I am not a fan boy, but why call them a ANGRY MOB!
When will Americans quit idolizing entertainers. If they died tomorrow would it have any affect on society as a whole? I don't think so. Fire fighters, yes. Teachers, yes. Scientists, yes. But these are spoiled people that get paid millions for a couple of weeks worth of work. They aren't any better than anyone else. Wait your turn in line. He should have refused the special treatment. Imagine what that would have done for his image?
gimme a break people. -you wouldn't skip the f***in line if you could? – and its not like he just walked in, they came and got him out of line.
Hmmm. I'm surprised actors like Jason Bateman aren't hooked up with PR folks for Apple to get it to them a few days before it goes on sale.
There is VIP access at nearly every good club, 5 star restaurant, etc. It's just the way it is. Besides, I love Jason Bateman!!
I worked in Hollywood and places around LA growing up. I am amazed that the level people will go to kiss the ass of a celeb. You put your pants on just like me. Wait in line just like everyone else. I would have booded him also.
c'mon do you really expect him to wait in line with us common folks? he might get mauled or something..............
Hey, at least everyone in that line could afford the new iphone. I can't even afford the old one, so should I start booing and hissing at everyone who has one? He was a celebrity that got special treatment. Happens every day. Next story, please.
Big deal! Certain people always get breaks – get over it! I get nasty looks from others when I get to go to the front of the LONG airport security lines because I have frequent flier status. Everyone is not equal – the sooner you realize that, the better off you'll be. :)
Yeah, make all the people that actually work for living and probably took a day off work to get the iphone wait in line and let a celebrity waltz right in. Shame on you Apple, you need to remember who is buying all your iphones.
Here's the language cop: annoying misuse of the word literally: "Everyone literally started booing and hissing." The opposite of literally is figuratively. Would it have made sense to say "Everyone figuratively started booing and hissing."? No. So using "literally" in that sentence was unnecessary and incorrect.
Let me get this straight...in the U.S. we elevate actors to celebrity status and then complain when they are treated like celebrities? At least Jason B. was standing in line with other shoppers instead of calling the store and having one reserved or sent out to him. That he was given preferential, AND ACCEPTED, treament is annoying, but not surprising. It's just another example of how out of proportion value systems are when applied to people in the media arts.
...having said all that...he is still incredibly cute! If I were standing near him in line I might have been more upset to not be able to enjoy the view a bit longer.
good point. we idolize actors and make them into celebrities and then have the gall to complain because they are treated like such. hypocrisy at its finest. so he got special treatment. okay... get over it people!!! he didn't ask for special treatment – he had the decency to be standing in line with everyone else. and if the STORE wanted to bring him in, that's their own issue. (maybe wanted autographs without a huge chaos or something.) everyone else there would have taken the chance to go in if they were selected, right? I mean, very few would be so altruistic as to say, I, sir, will stay at the back of the line? right? maybe he took the opportunity and maybe he felt funny afterwards because, yeah, it is an awkward situation and he probably should have been more considerate of everyone else standing there that thought it was a good thing to wait hours on their heads for something that will still be there tomorrow. good for him. but really, how much time did it really take of the line time anyway for him to get it, so, really, think about it....the celebrity that we all created got his phone, it's done. life goes on! (-:
If he was smart he would have loudly told the guy "No thank you. Just because I'm a celebrity doesn't mean I should have the right to cut all these people who were here ahead of me." It might have cost him a couple of hours of his precious time, but the good PR would have been priceless, and today people would be blogging about what a great guy he is instead of what a jerk he is.
He probably didn't want to stand in line since no one recognized him.
Of course there's an app for that:
This is Michael Bluth! Pepper Brooks! Who cares if he cut in line, it sounds more like someone at the store saw him rather than he pulling the "do you know who I am" routine. The guy is hilarious, and I am not offended by this.
Jason: the ONLY thing you should have done when the escort arrived is say, "No, I'll stay here." That's the ONLY thing. Say goodbye to your career. This is the only thing you'll be known for now.
Here's how the conversation will go: "Who's Jason Bateman?" "He's that guy that cut the iPhone line." "Oh, him. What d*ck. I'll cast someone else in this role. Get me Central Casting."
Exaggerate much? The guy didn't give everyone the bird as he was being escorted in the store! This will be largely forgotten by the end of today.
He made a huge mistake. LOLZ!!
I don't see what all the hubub is about. If an Apple employee had asked any one of those people who are b!tch!ng about this if they wanted to go in the store, I bet they would have jumped at it. And then they probably would have gotten booed and hissed at as well. No probelm though, because they would have walked out of the store with their shiny new toy while the line was still down the block and around the corner.
I say, go for it Jason! It's just one of the perks of being a celebrity. Another reason why so many people desire to be rich and famous.
I will by an iPhone when Steve Jobs comes out with an app that lets you use it to use it as a PHONE.
Am I jealous that Mr. Bateman got a "free pass" into the store and I didn't? Definitely! However, what about all the people that were waiting and had to leave because they legitimately had more important things to attend to? Why weren't those people allowed in ahead of others with reservations? Mr. Bateman did have a reservation, right???? If he was allowed in ahead of those that waited hours and hours for a walk-in and he himself didn't have a pre-order reservation, I would've flipped my lid!
Must be Bush's fault.
Stunned – it's just a phone!!!!! In this economic environment anyone whose top priority is WAITING ON LINE to buy an expensive gadget on the day of release needs to prioritize. PATHETIC!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The fact that all these people are waiting in line for a stupid phone is the really pathetic thing here. They just have to have one right now, don't they. Besides, I figure Apple has a whole bunch of 10-year-old kids over in Asia working in factories cranking a zillion of them out right now, so trust me, they won't run out. They'll make sure they've got more than enough for all the idiot nimrods that can't live without one, so for ****'s sake just go back next week. It should be at least another month before they goad these people into buying the next one.
Who is Jason Bateman???
No way, ahahahaha!!! that's hilarious! I love Jason!!
I mean, COME ON.
for all of you hating on him... remember you too at least once in your life has cut the line or at least tried. and plus, he isn't better than anyone, but he sure in hell rates to get special treatment. YOU ALL ACT AS IF YOU NEED SPECIAL TREATMENT EVERYWHERE YOU GO FOR SERVICE...trust me i know... i work for customer service and EVERYONE wants some kind of special treatment! so shame on everyone thats being hipocritical!
Right on! when your famous, you can do whatever you want. dont hate, people!
This whole thing is hilarious. Waiting in line for the newest rip-off from Apple. These people will overpay now and get mad later when this phone goes on sale in a few months. LOL.
Oh the irony of elitist apple fanboy snobs getting catty about someone daring to think they are more important than them.
Forget about Iraq, Afghanistan, Global Warming, Oil spill, and other trivial news items, lets complain about Jason Bateman get celebrity treatment for a phone. If you were in a third world poverty stricken country, would you even care?
It is not like he asked to be escorted into the store by the Apple people! These whine bags are just jealous.
He's an actor and a celebrity, don't you know that makes him better than you and everyone else? Duh.
I never promised crazy an iPhone!
And that's why we don't cut in line.....
If he did stand in line, some jerk probably would have called the tabloids who would've sent their paparazzi to come harass him while he was waiting. In that sense his wanting to get in and get out makes sense.
I kept reading the article to find out who the star was lol....Jason Bateman's 'diva' window closed back in the 80s, there must have been some classic comments made among the crowd such as "who the hell was that guy"
I keep reading your comment to figure out what rock you've been living under. Jason Bateman has had quite a successful show (Arrested Development) and has also been a supporting actor in quite a few very popular movies in the past few years. I mean he's no Leo diCaprio but definitely no has-been "diva" from the 80's. Should probably check him out on imdb.com sometime. Oh wait, have you heard of imdb.com before-you don't really seem up to speed with current media?
He's starting to look like Michael J. Fox.
I love CNN! SMH
I have no idea why people do things like wait in huge lines for DAYS for anything. New gadgets? Please. New movies? You're kidding, right? Tickets to some show? Whatever. What advantage is there to being one of the first people to get the new iphone? So that 10 years from now, you can tell your kids how awesome you were when the new iphone came out? Good luck with that.
It's a phone you losers...A PHONE!!!!
Yet another reason NOT to get an iPhone.
i would just be excited i saw jason bateman. not his fault they asked him in ahead of everyone. maybe ask for an autograph as he passed me!
Might have lessened the sting, if he had bought about 500 of them and gave them to people standing in line. I bet that is what Oprah would have done. But then again, Oprah woundnt have been standing in line to start with.
Hyperconsumerism is pretty pathetic. The need to upgrade to the latest rage on a regular basis is pretty stupid. Tell me, does the new phone actually make phone calls?
Jason Bateman is awesome. If I were offered to cut the line and get my phone easier, I would too. Of course, I wouldn't even be in the line. I have 2 macbooks, airport express, one of each generation ipod, but I would take my ANDROID phone over the iphone any day! Even better, instead of waiting in line like a moron, I ordered my online and it was delivered to my home. Why do people act like idiots and stand in line for just to be one of the first 10,000 people to own a phone or see a movie? I just don;t understand that kind of thinking. Guess what, in a few weeks everyone who wants one of these phones, will have it delivered to their home. Does it make people feel important, and boost their ego to have it first?
Why aren't people fussing about that Apple store's decision to let him cut? The article states he was escorted, so I doubt it was his idea. If you're going to get your knickers in a twist about this store, get upset about the store's decision. Frankly, if I was in line to buy ANY hot new electronic (excluding an Apple product. BLECH!) and they picked me out of the ilne to cut it...I wouldn't say no, and I doubt any of you would. Why should he be any different?
What this comes down to is free publicity for Apple. Oh, Jason Bateman is in line?! Get him a phone and make sure the paparazzi takes pictures of him using it! I doubt he asked to skip the line. He was offered and accepted. Who wouldnt?
The fact that he waited in line to begin with is very respectable. Surely he could have called ahead and been accomodated but they pulled him out of the queue. It's not his fault that they're willing to give him preferential treatment.
They weren't booing him, they were shouting, "Bluuuuuuuuuuuuth!"
That is proof all AT&T customers should boycott and switch to Sprint's HTC EVO. The best phone in the history of phones.
If Bateman were famous enough, the phone would have been sent to him rather than he having to wait in line like the rest of us. Personally, I can see many reasons why a person with notoriety should be pulled from the line and removed quickly... crowd control for one. Additionally, Apple would prefer the focus be on the phone and not the people standing in line... so remove those the media would flock to so the focus can get back to the phone and the average Joe's buying them.
Good point. I'm sure the papparazzi would have shown up sooner or later and created a huge buzz....but then again, the iPhone 4 came out today and doesn't Apple want the noteriety as well? Can you see the headlines in US Magazine: "Celebrities even stand in long lines for a new iPhone, they're just like you!!"
That's a shame. If I were him, I would have stayed in line and enjoy the company of all those poor nerds who have nothing better to do with their time than wait in line for a phone.
It's a PHONE – I don't understand why so many get so worked up about it, and wait in line.
He's Michael Bluth – he can do anything he DAMN WELL PLEASES. Deal with it.
It clearly says he was standing in line and someone came out of the store and got him. I'm sure he didn't call inside and let them know where he was at in line. I'm sure he' never refer to his fans or others as "little people". What he should have done after getting hissed at was buy his phone and walk out of the store and wave it in front of everyone's stupid face that was waiting outside
Uhhh he was in line for HOURS waiting like everybody else; someone at Apple spotted him and sent an employee out to bring him in.
It's not like he immediately went to the front of the line as soon as he got there. Not to mention, he still had to pay for his phone like everybody else.
What was he supposed to say to the employee (when by that point, everyone had noticed him, people were taking pictures, etc) "No thanks, I'd rather sit here for another five hours while everyone stares at me???"
You're all liars if you say you'd do anything but go with the employee!
I'M STILL IN LINE at the Apple Store in California and I haven't eaten in 3 days. I'm about 200 people away from getting my phone but my battery is dying, someone bring me some water and food, my name is Harry Bals. HELP. I'm wearing a green sw
HAHAHA Still in line, damn, you deserve to have your battery die. My battery is just fine. Keep wishing for food & water, I would let you starve for being in the line
Ha ha ha. I have tears in my eyes. This is the funniest post I have read all day! You are a genious. Thanks for the laugh!
Glad it brought you a laugh.
Seriously, who cares!!! Like any of you wouldnt of done the same exact thing. You act like you wouldnt, but you would.
Who spends hours in line for a phone? Who does that? Oh that's right, losers.
You are correct they are "LOSERS". Why be the first to have a 1st generation item.
Jason Batement rules!!! Who would wait in line for a stupid phone anyway.
But how classy would it have been had he said, "Hey, don't worry about it. I'll just wait like everyone else." Of course, no one would've written a story about him, but the people around him would've thought he was a good guy for it.
Whatever!! Everyone would cut in the line if they could. Who would actually WANT to wait in a line of 2000 people. Not me, that's why I'm waiting til it dies down to go get mine!!!
Hey, as long as the dude directly in front of him got an iPhone, no big deal....Yeah, he's a friggin' primadonna but aren't they all...
My mind boggles at these responses.
He stood in line, then the employees of the store took him inside. So what? It wasn't like he walked to the store, and then skipped the line entirely. The store gave him special treatment. You should be booing the store, not this guy.
On top of that, there are people complaining that he stood in the line himself instead of sending someone else to do it for him. I can't even begin to understand what is wrong with someone to make that complaint.
Every person that booed him for taking advantage of an opportunity, would sell their grandmother's dentures to get into that store ahead of everyone else, so give it a rest.
What's wrong with that, I am sure each person waiting would've liked that same courtesy if it had been offered to them. LOL....People are something (rules don't apply when it's you, but let it be someone else then it's "hey you can't cut line, boooooo")...LOL
it was for HIS protection dimwits
GIVE ME A BREAK it was so HE didnt get bothered and harassed
He's in LA....there are celebrity sitings everywhere, please.
Anyone who would wait in long line for I-phone needs to get a life; shortly anyone will be able to walk in a store and this over priced device
the most pathetic part of this story is 2000 people lined up to buy a goddam cell phone
...and it is not very good as a PHONE either. I remember a time when digital watches were a trendy technological item.
The ones I would consider as "DORK", "JERK", "IDIOT" would be the "FOOLS" who stood in the marketing line to get their advertizment for APPLE. This is why items go up in price and is lowered , eventually, but not as low as the last price. All of you fell for the marketing scheme. I have a phone, and I can talk to whom I wish, as long as I wish. I don't need the GPS, music, or any of the hype.
Good for you. If your phone is sufficient enough, congrats.
I personally do not see the need for these devices, either. If you want GPS, go buy one. I agree... you don't need a phone that does it all... I just need a phone that can successfully place calls and send/receive texts.
Why are you standing in line for a phone in the first place?
I WHO ?
Who needs all this instant gratification technology. Just give me a basic phone. Who needs everyone being able to reach out and touch you anywhere anytime. Leave your fun and games on a desktop. Besides why would you want to squint into a 2" screen for video etc.
I would have booed and hissed right back as well as sticking out my tongue LOL
Its not the crucial, folks LOL
All of you people would do the same thing. Typical HYPOCRISY that persists in the American way of life!
So all the little apple JO's were upset, huh? It made it all the more hilarious to me, seeing the no-life-having-little-thumb-pushers get a dose of reality. Kind of like when Jim Jones...er...Steve Jobs...cut in line to get his kidney.
Man I hope he didn't get a kidney because he really needed a liver. That would be a BIG OOPS in the operating room.
He was booed because he cut the line not because he was a celebrity. Anyone who had cut that line would have been booed. His celebrity only made it a story. And allowed the employees to recognize him so he could cut the line.
Sanctioned line cutting
In some instances, cutting in line is sanctioned by the authority overseeing the queue. For example, amusement parks operators such as Six Flags have programs whereby patrons can pay for the privilege of cutting the line for an attraction by arriving at a pre-designated time. At airports, it is customary for efficiency reasons to allow pregnant women, adults accompanying small children, and the physically disabled to board an airplane first, regardless of their seat class or assignment.
Damn! Even Steve Woz stood in line!
Steve Wozniak is a great guy. Apple management lost much of its decency when he left. Jobs has always been considered a bit of a jerk. (He left Apple but later returned, still a jerk.) You'd think two brushes with death would have mellowed him a big, but I guess not....
Sounds like something William Shatner would do! There are always those actors that think they are better than everyone else!
Not to be rude, but I wouldn't have recognized him and probably wouldn't have understood why he was being allowed to cut. As for someone getting "special treatment," it probably wouldn't bother me, as long as there was a reason for it and it was kept within reasonable limits.
Can't you just order it online?? either way, who really cares if he got special treatment. Get your phone, go home, be happy:)
SO WHAT........IT'S NOT HIS FAULT SOME APPLE EMPLOYEE GOT HIM FROM THE LINE.......ANYONE ELSE WOULD OF DONE THE SAME THING???????????TRUE OR NOT
My sister says she saw the same thing happen in Miami with Michelle Rodriguez. Seeing an opportunity, no less than three people jumped on back and rode her right into the store. That broad is thick.
C'MON PEOPLE, IT IS JUST A PHONE! I cannot believe all the hoo-doo over this. Just because it has a picture of some fruit on it, you would think people had lost their minds. What a sad state of affairs when you need a phone to define who you are.
They couldn't get a better photo of him for this article? They should have used his new iPhone to take a better one...
I LOVE THIS GUY! Hey, he stood in line like everyone else. If someone came out, pulled me out of line and took me into the store, I would have done it in a heart beat!
1) i saw footage of the event. everyone in line looked like a stuck up, trendy, hollywood wannabe d-bag. so really, who cares if they got upset. it brought a smile to my face.
2) apple asked him to come in, he didn't request it. like others have said. EVERYONE would have done the same thing. i would never wait in that line if i didn't have to.
3) who cares! they are mad apple fans. they deserve to be angered once in a while. knock them off their elitist pedestals. they all thought they were equals in their elitist apple hive mind, then bateman trumps them all. that rules.
This is definitely an example of how the Tea Party, corporate greed, and the Bush Administration has messed up the country.
Seriously? A celebrity got preferential treatment and that is the Bush administration's fault? Get a grip!! Celebrities were given special treatment long before Bush was in the White House. Go take your political nonsense elsewhere.
You're an idiot!
You are completely wrong. This highlights Obama's poor economic policy and pro-baby eating stance.
Bryan/Bernie, Can't you tell when someone posts something looking for reaction such as your reaction? I do believe you are the idiots.
Are you some sort of Neo-Nazi or just delusional from all the drugs?
The store sucks for giving him special treatment. It's not like he was on his way to Afghanastan. Bateman sucks for not refusing. We all like special treatment but there is a proper time and place for it. Someone mentioned that if the store took anyone else out of the line that person would not have had a problem going in. Who's to say that's true? The store has to consider that many people were waiting in line so no one should have gotten in early. Good thing I wasn't there. I almost got thrown out of Disneyland for confronting a guy who tried to line jump me on a ride I was waiting in the hot sun for over an hour to ride.
Personally, I've had someone line jump on me via the VIP treatment in the past.
Since the store preferred their money over mine, I took my business elsewhere.
And never returned to that business again, save when I bought some of their office furniture when they folded for cheap.
I think it would be too much of a potential security risk to have him in line. I could just see how much chaos it could have caused the crowd.
I admire him for not sending an assistant.
I completely agree with Jenn. Sheesh, reading these comments you'd think Jason Bateman and the store employees combined forces to start a "Make wine from babies" baby-stomping event.
Mmmm, wine from babies you say? I wonder which variety would be closest to a pinot noir?
The whole "wine from babies" comment made my day
No, wine from babies is poopoo noir.
Security risk? It's Jason Bateman, not the President of the United States.
LOL, people are used to seeing celebrities in LA, too. (Plus "former Arrested Development star" ? The show was over four years ago. So, you know. I think he was probably surprised to be ushered in. Gotta take those perks while someone still recognizes ya.
Anyone would have done it. They were just jealous.
Why, exactly, is this news?
You're reading the Entertainment section of the CNN site. Jason Bateman is an entertainer, ergo, there's a story about him in this section.
He learned a lesson! NEXT TIME send the assistant! LOL
This will be talk-show fodder for a while. He'll get razzed about it in any upcoming interview.
That's because Letterman hasn't figured out how to use a cell yet. Anyone who does must be someone he can legitimately attempt to ridicule. Of course, Letterman seemed a lot funnier about 30 years ago. Maybe that was because of artifically induced states of euphoria I experienced back then.
Hasn't anyone read anything at all about Iphone 4? I have no sympathy for the people who buy this phone today. It will be riddled with bugs and problems, and it will be a few months before they're fixed. Even Apple and AT&T have said this. lol, people are freaking funny.
The "bugs/issues" excuse is just another myth some folks tell themselves to feel better that they cannot or didn't not purchase one! I got mine and it lives up to the hype....not ONE issue or bug!
Err, it's actually quite nice...I've had mine since Wednesday (one of the people who received it through some sort of shipping mistake). It replaced my old 3G, so it's quite an improvement for me. Even with what few bugs people have reported – none of which I've noticed – it's still quite excellent. I'm no Apple fanboy...just stating my impressions. Dropped calls do seem to the the norm with AT&T and iPhones...but I don't make many calls anyway, and instead use the device more for data. Saying that it's riddled with flaws, though, is simply not true.
Nice try bluenote. We know you don't own a single piece of Apple hardware but are just a trolling here as a microsofty representative trying to talk smack. Apple fans are totally used to your kind. Your the guy that spends all his time searching out Apple articles just to complain that there are too many Apple stories. Does Apple really intimidate you that much? Did Jobs steal your girlfriend or something?
Apple fans know the iPhone will be great and they are going to love it like they have all their other Apple products. Do you really think you are going to convince people not to buy an iPhone just because you have made it your mission in life?
I agree. WAY too many people are in a hurry to beta test something, while they assume it is actually production quality.
Got mine yesterday too. No bugs...freaking awesome phone! My 3g and 3gs still work great too (I pass them on to family) but I had to have the new one asap. Please don't call me a dork or an idiot...it was my choice, my money and my time. I knew there could be problems, but I was ready to take the chance. Got married three times too. Guess I'm just a "glass half full" kinda girl.
Microsofty? Why does everyone who doesn't like Apple have to be a Microsofty? I'm a Linux user myself and there are 2 things I don't like about Apple. 1. Their marketing. 2. Their snooty users like yourself. Other than that, I think their products are really cool toys.
it's the fact that he's a celebrity and got special treatment because of that fact that everyone is po'd. i'd be po'd too.
I love him as an actor but he should have said, I respect the courtesy but all of these other people are waiting as well and I will wait with them. That's ridiculous! I'm still waiting until end of Summer before I get mine. My 3GS works fine and wait until the bugs are out people!! :)
I stood in line for four hours to get mine yesterday. No bugs...all is well. I had fun, got a little sun and made some friends for the day. If that makes me a dork, so be it.
The producer of "Live with Regis & Kelly",Michael Gelman was on line in NYC & did not cut the line–Jason should've stayed in his place like everyone else....he deserved to be booed.....
Maybe because he's a nobody and no one recognizes him?
not sure I'd compare a producer –what his name? With an actor. albeit he's not as well known as some actors but what if a couple dozen people started asking for his autograph while in line.. now that's a potential security issue.
Yikes Brendon, either your standards of being a "somebody" are pretty high or you've been living under a rock. Juno, Couples Retreat, The Kingdom? Oh and one of the funniest shows on TV – Arrested Development? I'm sure he'll "make it" someday!
Regis & Kelly fame "GelMan" & Jason Bateman are nowhere near comparible. If Jason got a free-pass big deal..
First of all, I didn't even know Regis was still alive, and I certainly didn't know that show was still on the air. Secondly, if you are suggesting that the producer of a washed-up talk show is a celebrity, you need to get your head checked. A producer is step up from the guy who gets coffee for everyone.
Laura – if I for one minute thought you wouldn't have done the same thing, your post would make sense – but I don't believe you wouldn't have for one second!
@Jenn: I was referring to Gelman. I thought that was more or less obvious.
please,,, He stood in line just like everyone else. If the store people came out for any one else in line they would have gone in the store also. GET OVER IT
OH Michael Bluth!!! Did lindsay put you up to this???
When I read this I immediatly had the voice of Tobias in my head saying the comment. Friggin hilarious.
haha i love this
I woulnd't be caught twice blowing off a whole line of men!
When it said that he put his head down at the hissing, all I could think of is that episode of Arrested Development where all the Bluths walk with their shoulders hunched up and theirs heads pointing down when they make a mistake.
Hey Jeff2, that sounded pretty dirty ;)
what a jerk! Those that stood in line yesterday are huge dorks anyway, but come on! He couldn't even send an assistant to go get it for him?
Really...you call him a jerk and then suggest it would have been better if he would have sent an assistant? kudos to him for going himself.
He probably can't afford an assistant anymore.
The account holder has to come in because there are contract extensions needing to be endorsed for the subsidized phone. I'm glad to see people doing well still exercise common sense and don't waste an extra $400-500 for the phone off contract or tie their assistant to a new line just to get the phone.
Anyone that was in that line would have done the same thing. No one would stand in line if they had the chance to cute ahead. Be honest with yourselfs!
A voice of reason, thank you and agree 200%!
That doesn't mean we have to like it when someone else gets to!!! =P
Absolutely disagree. As an officer in the Marine Corps I could _easily_ cut in line in front of my Marines and eat first, or do almost anything before them. We don't. Just because you are a celebrity or in a position of power doesn't mean you have to abuse it. He could have refused. I can emphatically tell you I would have.
Dave, those weren't Jason's troops in the line. Chain of command and honor are not apart of the Apple code of conduct. Although I respect your willingness to put your men first. Class act.
Well, Dave I guess the rest of the world just isn't as awesomely perfect as you and MsFizzy are. We shall have to try harder to live up the high standards that the two of you ALWAYS live up to – you know that perfect standard, that means you never miss the mark so you can come on these forums and throw stones at other folks...
Sam & Brenda , You both are right on target. Ofcourse we are all hypocrites. But all these comments make it funny blog to read. We live in material world and with self inflated sense of importance and hyper inflaged egos.
" A bigger man would have said I will wait my turn " That implies humility , which is a mainstay teaching in any religion. Standing in line itself was humility ! Cheers to bateman ! I trust you will apply humility in your life daily and not let the american society portray as weakling. Humility is america is a lost cause.. So does it many parts of world.
To all the babies crying that they did not get a IPHONE. Come on there are higher things in life such as your karma ,nirvana, world peace, your contributions to the earth, your purpose in life. Owning or playing with IPHONE is definitely not one of them. I Trust you start some self introspection as daily rule and learn something, and achieve something usefull to the world and your society.
Hey, Dave: That's EXACTLY why I'm proud my son chose to be a Marine!
Come on. If they had asked anyone in that line to step out and walk in to get an iPhone, they would have. Suck it up.
Exactly, people pretend their so much better, but give them the same treatment and they'd take it. Hypocrites.
What a creep!
C'mon, if you were able to go in ahead of the "little people" you would too – hypocrites.....Heck, wish I was a little famous so I too could skip the long lines – especially for something as important as an iPhone!
"for something as important as an iPhone?!?"
I really hope you were being sarcastic there. Considering a new tech gadget as "important" is ridiculous.
Jason Bateman rules!!! Who would wait in line for a stupid phone anyway.
It's a wonder that people standing in that line haven't gotten together to file a discrimination suit.
At least he was waiting in line, and wasn't his fault that the Apple Store saw a celebrity and escorted him in. I say give him credit for waiting in line himself and not having an assistant do it for him. Bateman seems like a good guy, seems like.
jason bateman's the man! he can cut me in line any day.
LOL. No VIP order for this sucker.
All you can do is Booooo! Suckers!get some status, and you can cut lines too! ahahahahaha
whats really creepy is all of you idiots standing in line for hours to get a phone. Really? Is it that important you stick radiation next to your brain?
Only the people in California get the radiation phones.
Get a life.
Wait until they find out he got it for free. hahaha
Not his fault – anyone would do the same, unless you're a moron. No need wasting hours in line just to feel like 'one of the regulars'
And could he maybe have just politely refused and waited his turn??
Jeanie: What does being a Christian have to do with this? Nothing. Jeez you get on to all the Christians preaching, yet you bring it up in uneccessary articles.
It is not unreasonable that this occurred. I think people are so consumed with everyone else that they jump at the opportunity to throw stones. There's a reason it's called celebrity, not everyone is one.
...don't you me "iCreep". 2,000 people in line, wayyyyy too funny.
When Chuck Norris stands at the end of the line they move the store to him!
Jeanie, I think you are thinking of Kirk Cameron
Bottom line....he has a life and is a busy person as opposed to everyone who took off from work to get this stupid gadget.
Jason Bateman is a total MORON. He didn't HAVE to go ahead of everyone else. He could have waited in line like everyone else. What an arrogant, pretentious moron. The same for Apple. I didn't know the A stood for kissing someone's buttocks. Totally JERKS.
I saw Candy Spelling do the same thing yesterday at the Beverly Center Apple store...Ugh!
He was in line like everyone else but was picked to go to the front...he didn't seek out special privileges, and anyone else in that line would have done the exact same thing.
I'm with you, Mitch. When I read the article, I muttered "what a wimp". I mean-a real person would have not gone in and definitely not with "head down". Who are all these losers who think Jason Bateman is "the man"?
waiting in line with 2000 people is pretty desparate in the first place, just wait a couple of weeks to get the darn phone and not wait in line! wonder how many people skipped work/school for this. very sad. rollseyes.
gawd, what a doosh!
I had a different experience in Orlando when the 3GS came out. Rashard Lewis from the Orlando Magic tried to skip the line and they told him he'd have to wait in line to get one. However, I do think it's a hazard having a celebrity stuck in line near you, so I would have said let him get one ahead of the line.
Does Elmer Fudd have difficulty in pronouncing the letter 'R' ?
Security at such events don't like having celebrities in the crowd as they end up having to worry about crowd control from autograph and photo op seekers. Of course, the people at that store screwed it up. Usually you send someone who is not in a uniform to go out and to ask them to come around to a back entrance.
I was in the line about 200 people ahead of Jason Bateman, and he waited patiently with everyone else from about 7:15 to 10:15. When the Apple employee took him aside, he walked with him (and there were no boos). I would have done the same thing if an employee offered to save three hours of my day. This is the employee's fault, not Jason's.
Donald Glover, on the other hand, was in line with a friend and they actively sought out the smaller, faster line, "you know, for special people". The employee they tried to schmooze calmly advised the two of them there was just the one line. I was about 10 people behind them and we made fun of them for the next 2 hours for not knowing how lines work. http://www.facebook.com/photo.php?pid=967787&l=1cfd6b9613&id=1646...
All-in-all, the employees were extremely fair to processing an 80/20 reservation/purchase customer flow.
Yes he is a creep. After all we are all " little people, the unwashed masses etc.". Everytime a celebrity dies I have a celebration.
"Yeah one more blood sucker gone" . I truly believe if Hollywood would sink in the ocean the world would be a better place. This celebrity worship is getting way out fo hand. I call it the Dumbmifacation of America. We have bubble headed news anchors. (CNN has more than it's share). Constantly bombarded with the ( "celebrities we love, sports figures referred to as our hero's. )
These people contribute nothing to society, but they take more than thier share. PHUK EM
typical, better than all of us because they can do ONE thing better then the average person. Then again, anyone can act if needed.
hello people....Jason got PAID by Apple I'm sure and this was all a publicity stunt for HIM and APPLE. Win, win.
If it was for him, as somone said...he would have sent his "assistant" and celebrity and fame goes to your head and NO ONE wants to wait in line and you never do unless you have to. he doesn't have to...so bottom line, publicity, paid event for Jason Bateman. He is a shameless capitalist! :)
sheikyerboutie- You say that Jason Bateman "rules," then ask "who would wait in line for a stupid phone anyway?" Well.....Jason Bateman would. And since you think Jason Bateman rules you obviously think he is cool, so I guess cool people would wait in line for a "stupid phone."
I'm waiting until next year, when all the bugs and issues have been addressed. He can have the issues; he'll be exchanging it for a new one soon. Besides, I'm happy with my 3gs.
Oh c'mon. If you were standing in line and an Apple employee came out and told you that you didn't have to wait you would jump at the chance. Is it "nice?" No. Would the majority of you complaining about it do it differently? No again.
the only mistake he made was walking in with his head down....if i was him and people started booing i would have started laughing while lighting a cigarette with a 100 dollar bill
Before any one is upset with him I like to point out that, he did go there to stand in line with all the little people.
He did not ask any one to move him out of the line. Moreover, he did seem to feel bad how others viewed what just happen to him.
Did any one see any other movie star waiting in line like him? In addition, just think how nice it is to see someone like this in person just like a common person.
Jason is kind of cute. He can get in line ahead of me.
He is a creep, because employees escorted him in to buy the phone before everyone else? Let me guess Mitch, if it had been you, and employees came to you and said you could cut to the front, you would probably cut the line too. Only afterwards, you would probably bore your friends to death for weeks with the "Remember that time I got to get a phone before everyone else" story. Or, as you let this tiny moment get to your head, you would loudly complain in line at the grocery store saying "Well I didn't have to wait in line at the APPLE STORE the other day!"
these are hysterical...at first thought one wonders why can't celebs do everything else normal people do? But I agree with Ella Jay! Order it! HELLO!!! ding ding ding...and yes this new phone IS NOT important...Food is important..Clothing is important..new technology bound with glitches is NOT a necessity
