Andy Samberg's cure for World Cup fever? 'Futsoc'

He danced with Justin Timberlake in the "You-know-what In A Box" viral video, crossed the galaxy as a "Space Chimp," and showed us all what a "Hot Rod" he is.  But Andy Samberg is also a huge soccer fan, and he's got World Cup fever.

"I'm diagnosed," Samberg said while helping promote a 2010 FIFA World Cup video game at Universal CityWalk in Los Angeles.  "I did not get my flu shot for World Cup fever.  Be careful though, it's similar to swine flu, and you do not want that."

The "Saturday Night Live" star, who says he was "okay" when he played soccer as a kid, acknowledges that the sport has struggled to score interest in the U.S. on a professional level.

Gaga: Middle finger is more NY than a corporate ambush

Lady Gaga brought more attention to yesterday's Mets game than the players themselves when she popped up at Citi Field and proceeded to get photographed flipping the bird to anyone and everyone looking her way.

Many have called the gesture obscene and/or "un-ladylike," but Gaga said on Twitter that she was simply being a New Yorker and showing love for her hometown.

On Friday, she tweeted, "A middle finger is more New York than a corporate ambush. I bleed for my hometown, and I'd die for my fans," followed by, "I guess I'm just a Bronx cheer kind of girl."

'Transformers' gets an upgrade

"Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen" is often used as a prime example of how critically panned movies can still blow up at the box office, but director Michael Bay swears the next “Transformers” will be better than last.

“One thing we're getting rid of is what I call the dorky comedy,” Bay told USA Today. The slang-spewing robot twins have been cut, but John Turturro will return to provide comic relief.

And the plot will have roots in real events, namely the space race between the U.S.S.R. and the USA. "The movie is more of a mystery," Bay said. "It ties in what we know as history growing up as kids with what really happened."

T.R. Knight heading to Broadway

Sadly, he’s not headed there for “Grey’s Anatomy: The Musical” (although we admit we would pay to see that).

No, T.R.'s post-"Grey's" life includes a starring role in the revival of David Mamet’s play, “A Life in the Theater,” in which he will portray a novice actor opposite Patrick Stewart's portrayal of a more mature stage actor who mentors the growing thespian. This is the first time Mamet's 1977 work will be performed on Broadway.

Rehearsals are slated to begin in August, and previews are expected to begin in September. An official opening date is expected in October.

Angelina Jolie as the next 'Cleopatra'?

Before there was Brangelina, there was "Marcopatra." Now the Queen of Hollywood is set to play the Queen of the Nile on the big screen.

Stacy Schiff, author of the upcoming bio "Cleopatra: A Life," said that while no one is absolutely certain of what Cleo actually looked like, she thinks Jolie could definitely fill the sandals of the Egyptian royal.

Physically, she's the perfect look, Schiff told USA Today of the star. Hollywood clearly agrees: Producer Scott Rudin bought the rights to Schiff's book, and the project "is being developed for and with Jolie," his reps confirmed.

Meanwhile, expect some comparisons between Jolie, 35, and Elizabeth Taylor. Taylor, 78, played Cleo in the 1963 movie, and, like Jolie, reportedly broke up a favorite Tinseltown twosome: Brad Pitt allegedly left his ex-wife Jennifer Aniston for Jolie, while singer Eddie Fisher ditched wife Debbie Reynolds for Taylor.

J. Lo: Tom Cruise is just as passionate as I am

Jennifer Lopez covered a lot of ground in a recent interview with “Extra,” explaining how her choreographed cameo at the MTV Movie Awards came to pass, as well as putting rumors to rest about her marriage to Marc Anthony.

As for her MTV appearance, Lopez said Cruise called her up personally about a month ahead of time to put in his request. “[Tom] said, ‘I have this idea. I’m doing this thing for MTV Movie Awards, and I want it to be a surprise,” she said in the interview.

J.Lo was happy to oblige but had one stipulation: He had to learn the cane dance that she does in the 2007 “Get Right” music video.

Susan Boyle may sing for the Pope

She dreamed a dream, but did heavenly-voiced Susan Boyle ever dream she’d be singing for the Pope?

It could happen! The 49-year-old former church worker and "Britain’s Got Talent" sensation is currently in talks to perform for Pope Benedict XVI during his trip to the U.K. in the fall.

“We are negotiating with Susan Boyle and her agent at the moment for Susan to sing for the Pope when he visits the UK in September,” the Catholic Church in Scotland confirmed to CNN.

According to the Daily Mail, Scotland native Boyle would likely sing at the September 16 Papal Mass at Glasgow’s Bellahouston Park. Hopefully, the Pope won’t be as harsh a critic as Boyle’s "Britain’s Got Talent" judge Simon Cowell.

Casting Chronicles: Stanley Tucci joins 'Captain America'

Fresh off his lauded turns in "The Lovely Bones" and "Julie and Julia," Stanley Tucci has signed up to play "Captain America's" creator, Dr. Abraham Erskine. Tucci joins Chris Evans, who plays the "Captain," and "Gossip Girl's" Sebastian Stan. The first film in the franchise will open next July.

Paul Rudd’s comedy “My Idiot Brother” filled in some female leads this week: Zooey Deschanel, Rashida Jones, Emily Mortimer and Elizabeth Banks have all signed on to the film.

Rudd's character is an idealist with an overbearing mom who intermittently stays at the homes of his three ambitious sisters, somehow simultaneously spreading joy and havoc in the lives of his siblings. Mortimer, Banks and Deschanel will star as his sisters, and Jones will play the girlfriend of Deschanel’s bisexual character.

Behind the Scenes on 'Showbiz Tonight': Strong words for Gaga

It is "bombshell Friday" on "Showbiz Tonight." As we like to say in the morning meeting, “There’s more news today than you can shake a stick at!"

Lady Gaga pulled off a very bombshell move when she flipped the bird at a Mets Game at Citi Field while wearing a black studded bikini, reportedly because the paparazzi were getting on her nerves! "Showbiz Tonight" Production Assistant Joan Yeam was not happy this morning and launched into her own little debate in the morning meeting saying,“Yes, her songs are great, and I admit they are catchy, but the way she dresses and her music videos disgust me!” Wow, Joanie - tell us how you really feel!

And no hard feelings from Jesse James' ex Janine Lindemulder: In a brand-new interview she publicly thanked Sandra Bullock for taking care of her daughter Sunny while she was in jail for tax evasion! Bullock was regularly spotted taking 7-year-old Sunny, who is James’ daughter with Janine, back and forth to school and Janine said she will forever be indebted to Bullock.

Justin Timberlake sings backup for Sheryl Crow

First he brought sexy back and now he’s bringing sexy backgrounds.

Sheryl Crow has revealed that Justin Timberlake will provide backing vocals on her cover of Terrence Trent D’Arby’s hit “Sign Your Name,” from her upcoming album “100 Miles from Memphis.”

Their collaboration, however, was purely an accident. Crow says she had been recording in an L.A. studio when she bumped into Memphis native JT, 29, who was producing tracks for Jamie Foxx.

“[Timberlake] was in the hallway,” Crow, 48, told Billboard.com. “I've always liked him. I played [the song] for him, and when it got to the chorus he's like, 'Who's doing the backgrounds?' I said, 'We haven't done them yet,' and he said, 'I got it.' It was all very organic and, man, perfect. People have no idea how talented this guy is."

Crow's new album drops July 20.
