NBC has officially confirmed reports that the original "Law & Order" series is canceled.
Its last episode will be on Monday, May 24.
But, as we reported earlier, that doesn't mean the spinoffs are also disappearing: NBC has officially picked up "LOLA," a Los Angeles based version of "Law & Order," and "Law & Order: SVU" is moving forward.
Said NBC president Angela Bromstad in the release, " ‘Law & Order’ has been one of the most successful franchises in the history of television, which is why it is so critical that we continue this important brand and our relationship with Dick Wolf and his team with ‘LOLA’ and ‘Law & Order: SVU.’ "
The network didn't provide a reason for the cancellation.
You recognize therefore significantly on the subject of this matter, produced me in my opinion consider it from so many numerous angles. Its like women and men are not involved until it's something to accomplish with Girl gaga! Your personal stuffs excellent. Always handle it up!
Woah! I'm really enjoying the template/theme of this blog. It's simple, yet effective. A lot of times it's tough to get that "perfect balance" between user friendliness and visual appearance. I must say you have done a amazing job with this. Additionally, the blog loads very fast for me on Internet explorer. Excellent Blog!
Wow, why did they have to kill off a show that inspired me to major in criminology to become like them. I hope they don't take off NCIS too or I will just cry.
Hi, i feel that i saw you visited my weblog so i got here to return the favor?.I'm trying to find issues to enhance my website!I guess its ok to make use of some of your ideas!!
Who cares about the spelling? It's not that important. Keep the comments on the subject please
Law & Order hasn't been that good for awhile now, or at least for me. I'm actually surprised it lasted this long, to be honest. Nowadays, people seem like like boring shows though, especially in America, either that or reality shows.
With that being said, I wouldn't say to cancel it. I can think of shows I'd rather see canceled like Lost, Survivor, the bachelor shows, all these doctor shows, etc. I'm not surprised though, since those shows I named have lots of ratings.
Now I'm no fan of NBC since they're known for making stupid decisions but the decision to cancel it could be NBC but there could also be numerous others who decided the cancellation as well. take that into consideration before you jump to conclusions like people always seem to do.
Law & Order is the best show on TV. Slowly saying goodbye to ABC, CBS and especially NBC for channels that listen and care.
They are making a big mistake by canceling law and order alot of people will set and watch thier episods by the hour. The new reality shows aren't worth watching, why not take them off the air. For as many more channels that we have today we should be able to select the channels we want. Paying for channels you never watch is a waste of time and money.
The biggest star of ALL the L&O incarnations is and always has been NEW YORK CITY. Dick Wolf has proven over and over that the cast can rotate, be added to or subtracted from or even completely replaced and the show will still suceed because the procedural drama set in the greatest city in the world just works.
Law and Order set in LA will flounder and fail because it lacks the working-class ethic and general conservatism that NYC has at its heart.
LOLA cases will involve spoiled children murdering their parents and getting off when the jury feels sorry for them because they're orphans, after which the whole cast will retire for a wine and cheese buffet...
First 24 and now Law and Order in the same season. One is Fox and the other is NBC but at any rate, two of TV's greatest dramas are ending this year. What kind of drama is left for the intelligent audience to view ?
Well, that really stinks!
I assume one the top reason for this, is that this new L&O in LA, is closer to their main studios, than the original L&O in NYC is.
Maybe the cast will all be charged with violating the Good Samaritan law in New York and be locked up until they are released for a new season. Oh that happened already on Seinfield. No wonder the history channel is ahead in ratings.
It's too bad they're cancelling. This is the one I show I watch with any regularity. CI and SVU don't do it for me like the original series. But I guess all good things must come to an end. I'll check out LOLA, but I've always hated LA. i can't imagine I'd be interested in a show based there. I bet the stories will be drugs, immigration problems and the craziness coming out of Hollywood. No thanks.
I think any show that was originally on at 10 and was moved to accommodate the Jay Leno experiment, should get another shot next season.
WAY TO GO NBC.YOU HAVE JUST SCREWED YOUR RATINGS. I HOPE YOU ARE HAPPY
Another show screwed by the great Jay Leno show in prime time.
Way to go.
NBC is what should be canceled, for incompetence. L&O is the only prime time NBC show that I watch, so when it is gone, so am I!!! I quit watching SVU when they turned it into the Mariska Hargitay show, complete with scenery chewing. Nothing else on NBC appeals to me, so goodbye NBC. As for L&O in La-LA Land...fuhgeddaboudit! No way would I watch another show set in Froot Loop Land. Bah Humbug!!!
L&O is one of my favorite show & also L&O SVU and I wonder HOW OLD ARE THE NBC's EXECS?????..... please don't cancel the show and I believe that they should be fired! Why are you cancelling all the good dramas shows and putting in the stupid reality shows....I guess you only like ratings but look at all the comments posted, there is the rating!!!!
Best show you ever had without question
what will you replace it with? A reality show like "TV does Dallas?"
fools are easy to find smart people somewhat harder. start looking,
Hey John. Pronouns. Possessive of I is my or mine. Possesive of you is your or yours. Possessiven of he is his. Possessive of she is her or hers. Possessive of they is their or theirs. "It's" is a contraction of "it is" never a possessive. No literate person would ever use I's, Me's, You's, or They's. Neither should they use "it's" as a possessive.
Maybe some of the characters will appear on L&O:SVU
Since every single episode of Law & Order is exactly like every other episode of Law & Order, can't its fans just take a little Ambien and watch reruns? It will be just like watching a brand new episode.
DUN-DUN! (or should I say "Done-Done")
Called it when Anthony Anderson showed up. He's not a bad actor, but everything he has been on didn't last.
I can't believe you would cancel this show. It's my most favorite show.
I loved the show but hated it's political agenda: You knew any minority that was suspected of the crime, didn't do it. It was always the white guy/gal and the minority was actually a super GREAT citizen that was working to change the world. DA DA DAT DAT TAAAA: we actually sang words to the theme: "WE HATE WHITE PEO-PLE" Wolf is an apologist with whit guilt:
I will miss L & O but it was time. the shows used to be about crime. Anymore they are politically slanted, but after all it is NBC the most politically slanted network....so go ahead and cancel one of the remaing two shows I watch....I'm getting really cozy with CBS: NCIS, NCISLA and the Mentalist are funny clever crime shows...no courtroom but you can't have everything.....
One more year ! (Repeat)
Another bad decision on the part of NBC. REALLY too bad.
Not too surprising a move by the morons running NBC, unfortunately. The network has a penchant for closing down any crime drama that requires thinking on the part of the viewer. When they cancelled "Homicide: Life on the Streets" after a 7 year run that received a number of EMMY awards, I lost interest in anything they had to offer and opted to watch L&O (all versions) via reruns on other channels.
Why NBC would chose to cancel one of the best shows on TV is ridiculous but it shows exactly why they are losing their audience to the cable networks. Really stupid. Right up there with the decision to replace the staff on L&O CI. Thank goodness for re-runs on CABLE!
I never seem to catch Law and Orders on their regular nights but often catch reruns when surfing. Interesting and intelligent shows. Maybe they should develop a Law and Order: Phoenix...
wish the networks would cancel the "reality" shows like Survivor, Biggest Loser, Wife Swap, Amazing Race, Bachelor, Bachelorette,...etc Pathetic people out for their 15 min of fame. Yuk. I refuse to watch them. There is so much trash TV on evey fricken channel and yet this network chooses to take off a very popular show. Where are the shows like Mary Tyler Moore, The Jeffersons, etc. There are few cute sitcoms on but the trashy reality shows have taken over the networks and personally I'm opposed to it but, apparently alot people like them otherwise they wouldn't be on. I don't understand Law & Order...that seems to be a very popular show.
I AGREE WITH THIS PERSON WHO SAID THIS ALOT. ONLY A PERSON WITH A LOW IQ WOULD WATCH THESE SHOWS. WE NEED LAW & ORDER. IT ALSO KEEPS US ON ON SOMES LAWS.
THIS IS ONE BIG MISTAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Very disappointing news. I hope we're not going to be treated to yet another cheap reality show in its place. High production values, fine actors, and good scripts are, after all, a lot more expensive than letting a bunch of jerks act out.
Ok, now what happens to this great cast? Will we see McCoy more on C.I. and SVU now, or will we see the **Long Awaited, Anticipated, and Capivated** return of ** Q.E.D.? **
It's: a contraction for It is.
Its: Possessive form of It.
One of those things you need to memorize.
Law & Order is one of the few intelligent shows on TV, the rest are trash, The network is going to loose viewers, I watch on US TV only the LAW &ORDERS and SOUTH LAND,
Shame on the network for a poor decition, can another network pick it up?
As good a TV show was there has ever been. Consistently well-written (some of this season's writing has been excellent) and–because it's shot in New York–a showcase for some of America's best actors.
John – the neuter gender pronoun "it" does not use an apostrophe when demonstrating possession. The ONLY proper use of "it's" is when you are contracting the phrase "it is". Go get yourself a grammar primer, you're speaking like a doorknob.
this is really sad. one of the few shows on television that allow you to think. i guess jeserylous will be taking over
Jack McCoy has been the staple in this show, why he never got more Emmys is a mystery to me.
'I will miss this show, thank God for reruns.
NBC needs to get their proritys straight.
I hate to see this show go off. My mom and I watch it every week and it is the only show that some of the older age (75-85) can keep up with. All they are making now are for kids 18-30, dumb comedys, and stupid reality shows, give the older folks at least one good drama.
these morons are only cancelling it because they feel its time too do so , not because people have lost interest this is idiotic , NBC Is in complete self destruct mode ,
shareholders meeting now!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
DID SOMEONE TAKE CRAZY PILLS? Since the first season w/Max & Logan as Detectives to now.. L&O has been one of the most entertaining, well acted shows of ALL TIME. Consistantly interesting, twisty endings, great writing, perfect casting. Man did NBC mess up. Those folks are idiots. PLEASE-PLEASE-PLEASE TNT PICK IT UP!!!
How can they cancel this excellent show?!!?! After all the bad stuff on TV, this is one of the keepers. The NBC execs need to revisit their decision! I am a loyal viewer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
It's about time it, a good series but after the new guys came along it just wasn't the same. This show started when I was in middle school and it's time for it to gracefully take a bow and exit the stage.
I am done with nbc-hello cbs and abc and any other station
Well, more dumbing down by a network. I guess we can have more shows put on by marriage EXPERT Jerry Seinfeld who broke up his wife's first marriage practically while they were cutting the cake. Don't give us anything that makes us think. Maybe we'll get lucky and a network that still has some brains in its executive suite will pick it up.
It can't be over! I love Law and order! I've been watching it since I was 13!!
it would be it's not its-checkyourself-for the possessive not has in it is...think dude
I feel your pain. I wasn't sure I wanted to adjust to L&O without S. Epatha Merkerson. Then again I've remained a fan through many departures: some of my favorite characters have been played by Fred Thompson and Steven Hill as DAs; Chris Noth, Jesse Green, Jerry Orbach, Benjamin Bratt, and Dennis Farina as detectives; Michael Moriarty, Angie Harmon, Jill Hennessy as legal eagles.
I like the L&O formula (focus on work not personal life). It makes the story the star of the show unlike CSI where for example we've seen various forensic technicians fall in and out of love in various combinations. Horatio Cain (played whisperingly by David Caruso) the lead lab tech in CSI Miami even jetted off to South America after some drug cartel baddie threatened an ex-wife...or was it Horatio's new-found son...anyway you get the drift. With such a complicated backstory I imagine it will be Caruso's call as to when CSI Miami can do without him.
Haha, this turned out to be a grammar lesson. Shame on NBC for ending a successful series.
LONG AS I STILL GOT MY SVU IM GOOD!!! THANK GOD THEY'RE NOT TAKING THAT AWAY!! GOOD BYE TO THE ORIGINAL ITS BEEN A REALLY GOOD RUN!!
Tine to cancle cable. Our heroes are gone. There`s nothing worth watching anymore.
I can't believe this. The "Law and Order" shows is all I watch....I love Jack McCoy and now that he's DA...He's even better. LOLA is not going to be as good or even better than the original Law and Order.
L&O has been a staple of quality programming for two decades. Looking back, it was elementary, but as the show grew, the stories developed and grew into something that was wonderful to watch. It brought conscience to a subject, a human face on crimes and causes that everyone had an opinion about, whether they knew it at the time or not. NBC's cancelling of it sends a message that everyone should pay close attention to: Better to have no opinion than to have the wrong one.
NBC's programming executives should be fired, pure and simple. They have been insulting our collective intelligence with reality programming for so long, they mistakenly believe it is quality TV compared to L&O. I hope they come up with something that is at least a little mentally stimulating, though considering who we are talking about, I don't think I'll hold my breath.
In case you all didn't notice, all of your comments have been in concise correct english. Compare your comments to the ones usually posted on this website and you will quickly realize that Law & Order fans are in the minority. You guys are even correcting CNN's grammar! This is the reason why the show is getting canceled.
I am sickened by this decision. Now I will have nothing to watch on network TV. Way to go NBC. I will be calling DirecTV Monday morning and finally giving up on the Big 3. See ya, NBC. You are all teenage morons!!!
Checkyourself you better check your self. Both "It's" and "its" are used properly in this news article. Better get your glasses checked. Perhaps a little cleaning is in order.
Too Bad ,I think that it was one of the few decent shows on Basic Cable and I really liked the story lines.
All I can say is there goes NBC again! They can't stand shows with good ratings so they cancel them! It's a great show & I think LOLA will tank just like NCIS LA sucks! Why can't they just leave a good thing alone? The people in charge just have no brains! *crying*
The "Trial By Jury" shows were a bust, so why tinker with what works? Just don't cancel SVU along with it, and add another mindless "reality" show.
To: Golden State Girl
thank you!! enjoy the day today its a beautiful day in Cali :)
Well i hope the execs at TNT or USA are salivating at the mistake of NBC and pick up the program. Talk about what a win win situation they will get a gem of a show to be the backbone of their network
I love your comment – – very funny and you have a good point...but he's still hot! : )
To John, "it's" is a contraction for it is . . . "its" is possessive
Back on topic, I'm disappointed to see this show cancelled. It was well written, and I liked the political overtones it often used.
Way to go NBC. Just keep screwing up your programming. Keep making changes to drive viewers away. You guys first move the series around the week to different nights so it was difficult to keep track of it. Then you give up on it for other programs that are not as entertaining. Well, tjhe executives at NBC will be remembered as the bunch who kept the network at the brink of general chaos and liked it. Stupid, stupid, stupid, but then you know that.
THIS COMPLETELY SUCKS. LAW & ORDER HAS BEEN AROUND FOREVER WITH GREAT RATINGS, WHY IS IT BEING CANCELLED? NBC NEEDS THEIR HEADS EXAMINED.
@Golden State Girl re: "Chris Noth is sooooooo damn hot!"
Aint nobody jealous of a 55 yo man lol whatcha smoking there girl? lol
rather possessive... lol
"Its" is a possesive pronoun, such as: mine, yours, his, hers, its, ours, theirs, and thine.
Too bad! Great show and not to mention, Chris Noth is sooooooo damn hot!
If any guy refutes this, you're simply jealous.
great show, i lost interest when sam waterston became da, also the new detectives were no chris noth or jerry orbach....oh, the humanity...
One Too many T's hahahahaha
Off the next blog time's a wasting Foo lol
dont you dare giggle at me giggles i use to have a job but i lost it its not that bad yet i spend my time now surfing blogs making sure every I is dotted and every T is crossed im hoping to get a job soon if somebody notices my special "skills" well off to more blogs time is a wasting
ps heres a place for dummies to go when ya dont have anything to go
Hate to break it to you, John, but" it's" only stands for "it is" or "it has." The possesive form is "its."
Now, on the subject of L&O. I'm disappointed it didn't get the chance to break Gunsmoke's record. I think out of deference to Dick Wolf, they should have let it happen.
Hate to see it go. I assume ratings were down, otherwise why drop a moneymaker?
It be affishal–NBCs' Laws 'n Order is' on 'i't's' last seezon.
There... hows' that to help induce a few more strokes and coronerees!?
I was almost mentally preparing myself for the cancellation, but only AFTER it broke "Gunsmoke"'s record – which it didn't....
PLEASE NBC....PLEASE reconsider!!!....don't cancel it just yet – PLEASE!!!
Don't leave us with only stupid reality shows! – we need good dramas like LAO.....please let it go one more season at least – or at least a few more episodes....PLEASE.
Listen to the public for once...
Maybe NBC can put Jay Leno or Conan O'Brien in this time slot.
Its: Belonging to it.
It's: It is.
English frequently breaks its own rules. It's an inexact language.
Year end, year old. One of television's best series. NBC, as usual, is directed by dummies.
" Um John? "It's" is a possessive? As in, "belonging to it"?
Im an English teacher. And no, it most certainly isn't.
Clearly, Johnny can't read"
Are you a teacher from England or a teacher who teaches English? Um? English word? Im ? Did you mean to type " I'm" ? Just curious, because one who teaches English and corrects someone making a mistake about contractions and then make a similar mistake makes me wonder how good a teacher they are.
Just goes to show that perfection is hard to come by.....
If Ms. Merkerson stayed on, would L&O continue another year? Maybe a cable outlet will pick up the mothership and give Mr. Wolf his record. In any case, nobody would cough up the bucks needed to surpass the numbers of Gunsmoke episodes.
Det. Lupo, wolf howl theme–the originator couldn't have an ego problem, could he?
I guess Linus Roach can always join his dad on Coronation Street.
I am one of those people that never watches a new episode when it comes out on NBC. I just wait to see the reruns on USA or whatever so it really doesn't affect me much. I had no idea that D'onofrio left the show. What can I say, I work overseas.
James...Leave it to people like you to blast others that don't share your political views on a forum about a popular tv show. I mean really...who's closed-minded here?
One of the few intelligently written shows left that doesn't make me roll my eyes or reach for the remote. All good thing must come to an end I guess, just can't understand why they keep the other garbage shows running like "Dancing w/the Former Actors who Can't Get Work" & Nancy Grace...& they say alcohol kills brain cells.
Well, there goes the last NBC show I cared about. I figured they were setting up Markerson's character (Lt. Van Buren) to go, but canceling the show? They finally got the cast set after Jerry Orbach left. I was really hoping to see more of this group, and what they would do with McCoy as DA. *Sigh* Got to clear the way for another hour of mindless garbage, I guess...
it's too bad, BEST show on TV, will miss it..............
feels like everything we like and want and have spent so much time with is going or we are loosing it...... Too Bad, Love this Show
Goodbye dear friend
Could NBC maybe PLEASE let L&O do a SERIES FINALE? NBC please just not let it end this spring without doing it correctly, 19 years deserves a proper send off.
Hmmmm..what can we do with NBC????
No Business Cajonies, Numbskull Business Climate, Never Better than Cable, Nitwit Business Central....better yet, just quit watching, there eliminating all the shows that you had to have at least one functional brain cell to watch. Hopefully ABC, CBS or USA etc. will pick L&A up. Remember, this is the network that brought you "Hello Larry" and dropped the national composite IQ 30 points overnight.
"Another TV franchise screwed by NBC... WAY TO GO (morons)!"
I hear that businesses are interested in not losing money. Confirm/Deny?
Too bad about L&O. A great show that lost out to low budget easily produced reality shows. L&O had great writing and production values with great NYC locations. I don't think you will get the same grit in LA, it's just too LA.
When Jerry Orbach passed away, part of the show went with him. However, they tried to fill his shoes with Dennis Farino and Chris Noth for which those men did a good job....but they were not Jerry. Over the years, we saw a number of the original cast members leave....Jesse Martin being one of them. The only 2 left now are Epatha Merkeson and Sam Waterson and they alone cannot carry the show. The storylines are as good as they have always been but something is missing and the 'new' cast just doesn't seem to cut it. Even Sam Waterson's air time has been cut down considerably which should have been a clue. S. Epatha Merkeson is an excellent actress and how she handled her cancer crisis was so real and convincing. We still watch L&O but if we miss an episode, that's o.k. Good luck to those remaining people who tried their hardest to keep this show on top, but I guess it just wasn't enough.
OH NO, How could you, Law & Order is my favourite show, I have been watching it for 20 years. What is wrong with the heads at NBC.
I WILL NOT ACCEPT THEIR STATEMENT THAT NO REASON IS GIVEN FOR THE CANCELLATION.
that is very upsetting to hear. i've been a long time law & order fan. haven't always like the changes in characters but stuck with it. the new show has a tough act to follow. hope some of the old characters are on it.....like sam waterston.
well, sh it happens, shows end, new ones begin..
TV is for losers
I am sorry to hear the news that Law and Order has been cancelled. It has been one of the most thought provoking shows on network television for 20 years. There are so few thought provoking dramas on network television anymore and it is such a shame to see it go. Good luck to all the cast members over the years you have done a remarkable job.
NBC you are making a mistake. I only watch your network for two programs and now one of those is gone. If you lose SVU there is no other reason to watch this network. I know that you are trained to program to the lowest common denominator and that reality tv is cheaper to produce but it is trash tv. No wonder network television is losing all their viewers to cable networks and it is because of stupid decisions like this one NBC. The programming department of this network needs to go back to school or get off of the drugs. You have ruined this network with "junk" programming by removing what few intelligent programs that remained.
dont you dare giggle at me giggles i use to have a job but i lost it its not that bad yet i spend my time now surfing blogs making sure every I is dotted and every T is crossed im hoping to get a job soon if somebody notices my special "skills" well off to more blogs time is a wasting
Why won't someone do a spin off set in New Orleans....the city itself would be one of the main characters. LA? boring, CSI NY? boring...Yeah, yeah, LA, NY, is cheaper to make...easier for the cast etc., etc.,
oh noooooooooooooooooooo! this is one of the few programmes I watch
Get over it people! 20 years of L&O and you still haven't had enough. Maybe you should learn how to turn off the TV and realize there is better things to do with your life than being brainwashed
Is this how you all spend your day? Fighting on CNN over punctuation? *giggles*
Just great another good show gone and I am sure another stupid reality show to replace it. I am hating TV more and more...probably why more people are spending time on the web.
I heard Jay Leno is starting "Law and Order – Hollywood" in that time slot.
The possessive of "it" actually is "its". This is one of the exception to the general rule of adding an apostrophe to indicate a state of possession by a noun. I presume it is because "it" typically refers to inanimate objects which are not to be personified as a general rule.
The word "it's" actually does mean "it is". I hope this helps.
You would think NBC would have learned from their previous mistakes. Take for instance all the great shows they canned to make room for Jay Leno's amazing new show at 10:00 p.m. We all know how that ended. And now, Law and Order – the original ?? Let SVU go instead (or not now that they all got a nice increase in salary – sort of seems ironic, doesn't it). This cast of characters is doing a great job – but to NBC what difference does that make. I am almost positive that I used the singular "is" correctly in that sentence. I don't want to start a long debate like the previous one about it's or its.
NBC has lost all credibility now.L & O has been the most successful and entertaining series for almost two decades now and still has a dedicated fan following..To cancel this show would mean that there will be more trashy shows to replace the slot..I will no longer watch NBC except for SVU....Lost another viewer NBC..Wake up u idiots in the so called executive offices..ARE u thinking at all or all the drugs you can afford with the multi million dollar salary has already trashed your brain?/
"In the criminal justice system, $exually based offenses are considered especially heinous. In New York City, the dedicated detectives who investigate these vicious felonies are members of an elite squad known as the Special Victims Unit. These are their stories."
CNN means "It is official" and its usage is correct.
According to Hannity and Beck, this was done at Obama's request.
WHICH Law & Order? The Monday night one? The Tuesday night one? (Hopefully, you see where this is going...)
But seriously, who cares? I don't watch any of the crap on TV. Like mysteries? Open a book!
"In the criminal justice system, the people are represented by two separate yet equally important groups: the police, who investigate crime, and the district attorneys, who prosecute the offenders. These are their stories."
This really sucks because it is one of the best shows on TV. Soon I wouldn't be watching anything on NBC the rate they're going.
I an sure that David Sarnoff is rolling over in his grave, saying "What in the h*** have you guys done to my network?
"In New York City's war on crime, the worst criminal offenders are pursued by the detectives of the Major Case Squad. These are their stories."
who cares about the grammatical errors? one of the best shows on tv has been cancelled. yet another mistake by nbc execs.
Soon to be replaced by Bowling With The Former Stars. Much cheaper to produce, and you only need 15 people to watch and cover the cost. I think it's time to sell your stock.
NBC executives are absolutely off their rockers! Why are you canceling "Law and Order"? You have so many other series on your network that are truly worth canceling; let me name a few;
1) "Minute to Win It"
2) "The Biggest Loser"
3) "The Marriage Ref"
4) "Friday Night Lights"
I'm hoping that the USA Network picks up "Law and Order" like they did "Law and Order: Criminal Intent" a few years ago!
they always get rid of shows that require a lil bit of brain power, thought and imagination, in exchange they put mindless, weak male role model sitcoms on.. the average attention span is 7 seconds per image.. and good quality shows require more then that to be engaged..and the average american cant do it, and the ones that can, are in the minority.. thats why good shows get cancelled. specially if they have intricate story arcs, dont want to cause any brain damage to the viewing public
I'm extremely disappointed that NBC is cancelling Law & Order. It's the best show on television! I love all of the characters on the show. I think NBC's ratings will plummet!
I am watching 'Bobbie' right now from CI while reading about L&O the original. All three shows of Law and Order are good. Episodes can be seen over and over. Eames and Goran, Jack McCoy, and probably Olivia and Eliott next will all be missed. Good bye NBC, shows continued on A&E, USA, Bravo, and even WGN. May they live forever!
This is a sad. I will really miss this show. Love the characters and appreciate the actors who make them so real. It was bad enough to lose Lenny, now the whole show. . .
Let's keep Law & Order on the air. Its one of the few good dramas on that is entertaining. NBC is making a big mistake and will lose a lot of viewers by cancelling this show. So much on the air these days is garbage and certainly not something to waste air time on. The Law & Order trio is some of the best on tv. Shame on NBC for cancelling it without notice. How about it Law & Order fans, lets keep on NBC it rethink this.
TV executives must have the IQ of your average 6 year old and the attention span of a gnat. Another great show is axed, and we get more reality rubbish. Could it be that "reality" is cheaper to produce?
You know what this means? Law and order will be replaced with some STUPID Reality show about some dump a** person who has no real life, but wants to infuse their lives upon us. At least there was some form of intelectuial value added to our world. The sad part is that we will now be subjected to some superficial TV mind numbing foolishness, that a game show are something worse...
Good Luck NBC, you are taking a great show off the air only to replace it with CRAP...
It's been downhill since George Dzunda left in 1991
1/ re/ grammar : I happen to have a copy of Strunk and White's The Elements of Style – the grammar bible – right here at my desk and I can confirm that all those who pointed out John's error are correct. As S&W put it: "A common error is to write it's for its, or vice versa. The first is a contraction, meaning "it is." The second is a possessive." They give this example: "It's a wise dog that scratches its own fleas." Just remember that line! The CNN article, which posted : "Its last episode...." – where the "it" refers to NBC, was correct. It is a posessive example.
2/ re/ L&O – LOVE this franchise but especially Criminal Intent – sorry to see the original go, but I'm more bummed over losing the great D'Onofria/Erbe duo in Criminal Intent. They were fantastic. BRING THEM BACK – move them to LA show if you have to – figure out a reason they could end up there – that would be a great show -same great team but a new city and a whole new bunch of story ops.
Hey Peeps dont forget Law & Order: Criminal Intent on BRAVO...they play this show all the time during the weekends...i love Det. Eames and Goren together....this by far is the best Law & Order....
NBC needs to cancel the executives positions.
1st – the Late Night Show drama now Law & Order cancelled.
What the heck is going on at NBC?
They need a new direction.
L&O has been one of the best shows. Sam Watterson should be
honored for all his good work. Everyone on L&O is professional
I remember Jill Hennessy when she was written off the show. Jack
McCoy was upset. This was my favorite. Next NBC will start airing
housewives of some city or reality shows. Thanks for catering to
J Leno. I will not watch NBC again. Good Job L&O for all the
good entertaining all these yesrs. At least we hope reruns will be
on TNT & TBS.
@Campbell Brownies: So. you didn't watch after the first week? L&O was always political.
@To All the Grammar Cops .....i wish you had something better to do lol
*makes note to myself* wish i had the last 20 seconds back in my life...LOL
With the passing of Brisco and the departure of Green, no reason to watch.
Another show worth watching is being cancelled. Law &Order is a great show, one that I always record in case there's an interruption such as a phone call, visitor, etc. But really... It's only a TV show, but by some comments made here, it must be more than that. The news that it's being cancelled really brought out strong feelings in some people, and I want to comment on one in particular.
@Brickell Princess: Just what type shows do you like to watch? What makes you “feel intelligent”? I get the feeling that: (#1) you don’t understand what’s going on in an intelligently written show that usually deals very closely with a topic similar to a recent news story from somewhere around our country, and you, therefore, feel less than intelligent (should I say ‘dumb’?) and jealous of those who do understand and enjoy the show; (#2) you have a problem with seeing police and the court system deal with those who commit offenses and are, in most cases, taken off the street; (#3) you neither understand the ‘feel good’ moments in a medical drama when, even though scripted, someone is healed or recovers or has some breakthrough with problems and moves on with their life, nor have much respect for those who work so hard in the medical profession to save lives and/or make life more comfortable for those who are suffering from an illness, injury or mental illness (in medical dramas, yes, it is scripted but probably very close to someone’s real life situation); and, finally, (#4) you think everyone should like what you like and think like you think. I am personally thankful that not everyone is what you appear to be from your comment – self-centered and stooping to name calling and belittling others because they like something you don't. The world is a big place and there are lots of TV stations, so if you don't like what's on, change channels. Just remember that it takes all kinds to make up this world, and it only makes sense that it takes diverse tv programming to satisfy everyone. Seek what you enjoy and let everyone else do the same. Because you don't like something doesn't mean it's bad – it's just your choice. God bless the USA for our freedom to choose (profession, religion, where to live, etc. – yes, even TV shows!)
As much as I love Law & Order, this was inevitable a year ago. The flagship simply no longer has the ratings to justify the cost. In fact, NBC wanted to cancel it last year but was persuaded to wait so that DIck WOlf could tie the production record set by Gunsmoke.
@john: checkyourself is correct. "It's" is NOT a possessive form, it's a contraction of "it is". The possessive form of "it" is "its"...
It's important to know what you're talking about before you post something for all the world to see...
It's one thing to accidentally put an apostrophe in "its", but it's another to sit there and think about it and still get it wrong. John, please go back to school.
NBC, my wife and I are 20-year Law & Order fans. Please add our two votes to save the original show.
I swear that "Tun-Tun" at the start of each episode is like a mating call for my wife. Nothing gets her on the couch faster!
Sorry, John, you're wrong. "It's" stands for "it is" and NOTHING else. The possessive pronoun "its" does NOT have an apostrophe. You'll note that CNN has since corrected the error. If you do not agree, feel free to check any 3rd grade English book.
This is a shame. Bring it back. I always look for it rather than the spin-offs. PLEASE BRING IT BACK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NOW!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
everything went to hєll after Seinfeld was cancelled lol
NBC had fallen so far already and now this? L&O was the greatest. Please tell me you are not going to replace it with another inane reality show. As far as i'm concerned, NBC is the biggest LOSER!
It's too bad. Law & Order was NBC's only interesting show left after they dumped Law & Order Criminal Intent. Their new stuff is "must sleep" TV. I don't care about the ages of the characters; I'm looking for interesting plots and non-stereotyped characters.
I can't stand it. John, before you correct checkyourself, please do a little research. "Its" is the possessive form for the pronoun "it" and "it's" means "it is". ["His" and "hers" don't use apostrophes either.]
Unbelievably stupid! We never missed the show. We are hoping that some other network will pick it up. We are huge fans of Sam Waterston.
Last place is too good for No Broadcasting Credibility.
NBC wants to go with a younger crowd. The main characters are getting too old. To bad-its still a great show
After what happened with Leno-O'Brien fiasco, I stopped watching NBC. Law and Order was the only show I could not stop watching. Now, I done with NBC. "What a fools."
It is too bad this show has been canceled. This is one of the few good shows on TV today. NBC execs could have let the show have one more season, just to break the record as the longest running drama series. Not a very smart move, especially if the show is still successful. Hmmm...I can't image why NBC is in last place for the season.
I really will miss Law & Order.
The other two L&O's, not so much.
Jerry Orbach and Benjamin Bratt was my favorite twosome.
I really like the two new guys in the latest one.
Too bad ... really the best Law & Order.
Let's campaign to save LAW & ORDER. Join "Save LAW & ORDER" on FaceBook.
@ checkyourself... before you go correcting grammar, maybe you should know some yourself.
"It's" = contraction of "it is" – i.e. It's correct as written
I loved LnO and watched it religiously through its cast changes. At first I thought that was a bad idea, but after awhile it started to make sense because different people brought different experiences and perspective, pretty much what you'd see in that type of environment with employees coming and going.
What that being said, this last cast ensemble is the worst cast selection to date. I never warmed up to Jeremy Sisto and Anthony Anderson. I can't even tell you the names of the two ADAs and Jack McCoy being made the DA and getting his passionate arguments out of the courtroom made things worse. Anita Van Buren's realistic cancer dilemma brought some realism to the show after years of lagging but when S Epatha Merkerson announced she was leaving, I was done. Without her and with McCoy not being in the courtroom plus with Jerry Orbach dying a few years earlier, that was all she wrote. I'm glad that SVU is still there because that cast is stellar and I probably won't watch LOLA. I'm sorry but LA-based shows never work out. Nip/Tuck jumped the shark when it moved to LA. I can imagine a Hollyweird-like atmosphere and honestly – who cares about self-absorbed celebrities, celebritarts and "ripped from the headline Hollyweird" stories? I can get that on any reality show.
Anyway, RIP LnO. We hardly knew ye...
THE BEST THING ON NBC IS LAW & ORDER. I HOPE IT PICK UP ON TNT. NBC SHAME ON YOU.
For NBC, IT'S ITS own fault that IT'S feeling ITS numbers falling on ITS tv lineup. IT'S just a shame that some of ITS shows have been staples of television for so long...
IT'S a shame IT'S happening to ITS longest current running show. IT'S official, ITS time,... IT'S just over...
I LOVE Law and Order! What are they thinking? I can what it all day. Please NBC rethink this one. Don't cancel my favorite show. I have just now gotten to know everyone on the new cast. Why stop a good thing?
L&O was very liberal. It will not be missed.
The headline is correct – "It's official" = "It is official" but it is a shame that the series has been cancelled. There are so few good shows on tv and this series was one of them. I would like to have seen this show hold the record for longest tv series.
No!! I have enjoyed Law & Order since the beginning. Each cast member/change in my opinion is equally talented and delievered a great show according to their time on the show. Oh well... another great loss for those of us who despise reality & talk show tv. Cable tv may save us true fans. I'm just saying...
Any word on Law & Order: CI? I love Jeff Goldblum, but "Goren and Eames" made CI what it was.
I am so sad to see one of the best drama series, if not the best, that TV has to offer end. I am such a fan – I have started collecting the Law & Order DVD series and am glad to have them to watch as many times as I want to. I guess othing lasts forever – and thank God for cable reruns! Good-bye Law & Order, and thanks for the memories! :)
I LOVE this show!! Absolutely wrong that a good show like this would be cancelled! I do not agree with this! Sure it has had its ups and downs but it has been very good TV drama. I do miss Jerry though.
Hey, "checkyourself," check your English usage. The story got it right. You got it wrong. Both uses of it's and its are correct as they are displayed. Oops!
I'm really looking forward to Law & Order: Apostrophe Squad.
Seriously, people are way too wrapped up in TV. If we can cope with the loss of Bosom Buddies, we can get through this.
I am sick to my stomach over this. The "executives" at NBC are absolute MORONS. What kind of dreck are going to get in place of the best show on television. I rarely watch NBC anymore–in face, L&O was the ONLY drama I watched. I hope every new drama they launch this year blows up in their faces.
You guys just don't know when you have a good thing in your hands. everythin today has to be reality. i call it stupidity. leave the good shows on and get rid of the realities
Ah, the "Nothing But Commercials" network strikes (out) again!
You've totally screwed this up. This is one of the best written shows on TV. You've made a terrible mistake cancelling this fine show!
This is a huge mistake...
NBC is batting less that 50...
Will Det Lupo and DA Cutter move to LA? Pleasee......
Please tell the Big-Wigs at NBC that we love this show. One of the few intelligent shows on TV today. Give it another year, let it make history as the longest running show in TV history. Criminal Intent is the best of the best!
I'd bet that they couldn't get their actors back for more. SVU is good, but gruesome sometimes. Crime in the BIG Apple, ok. LOLA, not interested. NBC is adrift with no one steering. Reality shows and crappy sitcoms are standard fare. C'mon. Oh and Jay. I don't know that there is anything on NBC to watch. SVU isn't the same without Vincent O. (the bug) and Ames. It will soon tank. And L.A.? Who wants to watch a crime drama set in that stinkhole?
This is one of the most poorly thought out decisions NBC has ever made. As a loyal viewer who has faithfully watched every episode of L&O since it first aired, I cannot tell you how disappointed I am that this thoughtful, well written drama is being removed from the airwaves. The spinoffs of the original were never quite as good, and the Los Angeles version is guaranteed to be a colossal failure. You blew it, NBC – one of the very few good shows on your network and now it is cancelled.
Take the money from L&O CI (Jeff Gol... is a disater) the show is for morons, and put the money on the original Law & Order.
Just another instance of the dumbing down of America. People would rather watch obese people losing wait or the talentless get insulted. Here's a thought – how about a reality show about immigrants learning English. Sorry, that's not politically correct.
I have loved this show for years and have been faithful watching every episode. Very sad to hear it's ending. What is wrong with the network? When they have something good going for them, it's cancelled. I will not watch another Los Angeles show if that's where they are taken it "Law and Order Los Angeles" Dumb, dumb, dumb!!!
I won't be watching anything more on NBC. They've proven, once again, that intelligent viewers are of no concern to them. They want to shove the mindless reality shows down our throats. Not happening at my house!!!
For those who have mentioned Sam Waterston's past roles like The Great Gatsby and The Killing Fields, you might be interested to know that he was also in Heaven's Gate. Although a lot of bad things have been said about the film, I've seen it several times and it is actually pretty good.
OMG......guess what folks.....another brain cell reality show coming to your tv very soon!!!!! I have been considering donaying my tv because all there is on is JUNK!!!!! Maybe more Toddlers & Tiaras ....the pedophiles can hardly wait...,or maybe NBC will become like TLC & there might be a Kate Gosselin copy cat on NBC, or maybe more wannabe Jersey shore fans will have their wants satisfied. I'm so tired of all this JUNK portrayed as what the viewer wants..too bad they didn't ask me because I would tell them where theey can shove this CRAP!!! Law & Order is one of the few shows I still view. Quality acting, quality entertainment!!! (I meant to say....brain cell killer reality show)
CNN's usage was correct, saying "it's last episode". Think this way "Last episode belonging to it." Possessive. Get it?
Evidently, John, you don't get it. It or it's amounts to one of those exceptions to the rule. From Wikipedia, for instance:
its, it's or its can mean:
* its, the possessive adjective and possessive pronoun form of the personal pronoun it
* it's, a contraction of it is or it has
Come on Sam, take this to court! I am sure McCoy can give a good argument to keep this Ace of a show on air! This is such devastating news! The ripped from the headlines series is best only folllowed by SVU.
If all fails, the only reason to watch prime time will be Dancing with the Stars! I will get more books read on my list! I give cheers to the best: from Chris Noth, George Dzunda, Angie Harmon – she was the best and I still miss her – Jerry Orhbach – saw him on Broadway – Jesse Martin, S Epatha, and the Great Sam Waterston! Sooo very sad.
NOOOOOOO!!!!! DON'T CANCEL the original show! SHAME ON NBC!
OMG!! what a shame, another NBC blunder. Hopefully they will re-consider. Shame, shame on NBC
Now it's time for a test on grammar.
WOW!! What is wrong with NBC. This is the great courtroom drama of all times. I hope new show flops!!!
Dang, my favouite show is finally done. Can A&E show reruns all day like they used to in the 90's. I could watch this for another 5-10 years at least
Keep Law and Order but get rid of all spin-offs.
I imagine ABC will pick it up for a season or two as it struggles to find a solid cop show replacement since NYPD BLUE went away. Its last few cop shows have been weird duds.
Please note: Proper usage of "its" is in play.
I didn't see anything mentioning Law & Order: Criminal Intent on USA. I certainly hope that they do not do away with that one as well. I believe that NBC is going to regret this as well. I say put the show on USA with Criminal Intent. Those of us who enjoy the original Law & Order will follow.
NBC made a big mistake. Law & Order is the best show on TV.
I know the reason: It was the most intellectually-based entry of the LAO collection! The morons of America could not understand it...........
NBC are idiots. Why cancel a show like this? This was the only show from NBC I recorded.
I stopped watching when they started blaming everything on President Bush.
Cancel the best TV drama of the last twenty years?
It's been all about the words / the writing... literary fiction versus mass market fiction...
The pandering to the 'lowest common denominator' wins out again. We can't wait 'til the next, newest 'reality' show. Thanks, NBC, for dumbing down your network.
As my son would say... 'EPIC FAIL' ......
I'm sad. Now I'll have to go order each season.
I thought this was an excellent season. This show is better than a lot of stuff on the network. Not sure why they would cancel.
Hopefully another network will pick up
Why don't TV producers ever learn? The core reason why L&O was so popular over so many years was its core cast of characters. Pushing Sam Waterston to the periphery, for example, was viewer loyalty poison.
L&O was a great show that I have watch since the beginning. You would think the network would value a franchise that continues to produce a quality product and ratings – why else has it lasted 20 years. They undoubtly did not learn from the Leno show; and they will not learn from this move either.
Thank You L&O for 20 years of drama and entertainment!!!!!!
It's sad to see the original Law & Order go, but SVU is my favorite so at least that is staying on the air!
NBC... The original No Brains Channel.
Not much reason to watch prime time programming on NBC. Meet the Press on Sunday – and then any channel but NBC! Law & Order was all that NBC had after the cancellation of The West Wing!
Please support the cause...........FACEBOOK PAGE
NBC is losing it's adult audience to reality shows and rip offs of other successful / canceled Network shows
Law and Order has been a great show from the very beginning to the end, well written and well acted. Shame on NBC for dropping a great show that could have gone on for many more years. Everyone involved in the show should be very proud to have been a part of this class act. Few shows have stayed on the air for as long as this show has best wishes to everyone involved in making this television classic.
L & O is one of the best shows ever on TV. You know when you see the disclaimer in the beginning that the show actually is based on a real, recent event. I've been a fan ever since day 1, except for Dennis Farina years. No knock on him, but maybe a downer after Jerry Orbach passed away. Hopefully, USA or TNT will pick up the show. It is still relevant, still has good writing and acting. It is amazing with all of the cast changes over the years the show keeps on rolling along. It will be missed. I'll need to add to my boxed-set collection now. (I hope the grammar and punctuation police don't cite me for a violation of the hyphen statutes!).
NBC canned a show that's been losing viewers since Jerry Orbach died. SVU has been the heavy-hitter of the L&O Franchise, and that's staying. Canceling that would have been the death knell of NBC.
Are you kidding me?
They can cut SVU or CI for all I care. But why the original L&O? It's the best show on TV!!! McCoy, Van Buren, Schiff, and especially Lennie are the best! Although I don't like Cutter that much, the plots of the show are still awesome. It's my absolute favorite show and from the comments out there, it's a lot of people favorite show, too!
What kind of idiots are running NBC????
r.i.p. to one of the great shows.
how stupid do they need to be. yeah go ahead and cancel heroes, thats fine. but law and order. i mean my grandfather LOVED that show, that shows how much of an audience it had. im going to go through withdrawls without it. way to go NBC...idiots.
No comment on the fate of L&O:CI on USA?
I woke up this morning to find my six-month old truck sideswiped. The hit and run driver inflicted a considerable amount of damage. It was a very inconvenient morning filled with police, insurance quotes and auto body shops. Then I arrived to work three hours late and got this blow. I can’t believe Jack McCoy is exiting my life. What a horrible day. You will be missed.
correction, 1/3 of the show's contribution to the overall NYC economy cut.
I am an avid fan of the Law and Order franchise. What irks me the most, are the number of jobs affected. Not only the cast, but also crew, catering, small businesses loaning their store fronts for scenes, extras, N.Y.P.D., N.Y.F.D., EMT services, etc as the original I read several years ago, brought in $1.5 million dollars every three weeks into NYC economy. Most small businesses and hospitality service industry craved the business they received and now that 1/3 of the city's economy is now affected, it makes NBC look foolish. Thank goodness USA channel is still a favourite of mine.
The casting has been a disaster this season!! Anthony Anderson?? Really?? What a joke!!
Now with the exception of L&O SVU, there is no reason to watch NBC at all.
I love "Law and Order". It's one of the best shows on TV. What will they replace it with when the new show flops? Another reality show... YUK! I am so sick of reality shows. Keep "Law and Order". PPPLLLLEEAASSEEE!!!!!!!
NBC has lost its smarts! first they thought Jay Leno at 10 was a good idea – now this! Wrong decision on so many levels! NBC is starved for good dramas and they are canceling the flagship L&O series, but they give reality trash the best time slots. I loved 'Studio 60' and 'Lipstick Jungle', but NBC prefers 'Minute to win it'... If that's the direction NBC is going the network is doomed for mediocrity!!!
How disappointing. One of my favorite shows. Now there will be even less to entice me to watch NBC.
Who is in control of programing? Law & Order has always been one of the most intelligent shows on television. No matter who comes and goes, it continues to work. In particular, I love the fact of a lack of soap opera complications. With all the dribble on television, this is a travesty!
I liked L&O but like others have said it was never the same after Jerry Orbach died – his character was just fun to watch.
I'm just glad L&O: CI isn't on NBC, USA is a good network for it & I love Jeff Goldbloom in it.
Everything is here http://www.onseeking.com friends, please
enjoy viewing bar
It's too bad, but it's been going downhill for a while. But of the shows in the franchise, SVU is the one that deserves to go. That one has been awful this season. With the flagship ending, I think I'll drop both from my TiVo Season Pass.
Nope. It's=It is
It is official. They are correct and you are wrong. I'll stake my M.A. in Professional Writing and Editing on it.
I AM CRUSHED!!!! I love that show... and I just saw Sam on "Sunday Morning" w/ Charles Osgood talking about the shows success and was hoping it would be around for another 15 years.... not a good idea to cancel. Yes, I like the other 2 shows as well but the original is still my favorite... : (

"Law and Order GPU (Grammar Police Unit!) A taught police thriller puncuated with dramatic scenes of mis-spoken New Yorkers!"
Who taught the police thriller? A special ed teacher?
Bad spelling such as "puncuated" makes for taut exchanges on blogs.
The original L&O I can live without. But PLEASE do not ax SVU. I don't know what's happening to programming, but 95% of shows nowadays are awful! I will be SO glad when this reality TV stuff disappears.
Get over it people its a tv show WOW !
I can't believe it! My favorite TV show is gone.
Re: Grammar correction staff
Thanks for the correction on "it's" vs "its" guys. John said to let you know he read all 500 comments directed to him and appreciates all your hard work. Now he knows his "it's" from his "its". He assures you its won't happen again.
It's John's Assistant
Ridiculous! They need to scrap both detectives since neither one of them ever "clicked" in the role or seemed believable. They should have 1 more kick-butt record breaking season. Bring back Dennis Farrino and Benjamin Bratt or, if new actors are auditioning for the leads how about Peter Coyote and James Woods?!!!!!? It would be an instant hit again, especially if they didn't stick with so many "recently ripped from the headlines" stories.
if anybody's still interested in L&O – maybe LOGO or O or bravo will take it over and create new episodes.
I will never watch NBC EVERagain!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Unless they happen to put on something I want to watch...and as Lenny would say "You can take that to the bank Detective" lollllllllll
This cast has great chemistry. Sorry to see it go. It's my favorite
Law & Order. Hope you change your mind.
Law and Order GPU (Grammar Police Unit!) A taught police thriller puncuated with dramatic scenes of mis-spoken New Yorkers!
Too bad Christopher Meloni will be leaving SVU at the end of Season 12...don't have much hope for that series continuing log after that either.
Te guy who dreamed up "New Coke" is making NBC's programming decisions.
NBC must like being last...either that or the guy who dreamed up "New Coke" is making their programming decisions.
When will NBC wake up. They are idiots!!!!
Noooooo!!!! I am done with the idiots at NBC! Law and Order is the best show on television. If they have to cancel one of the L&O shows, let it be the SVU version, not the original. I am going to severely limit the NBC shows I watch – starting NOW!
I used to be an avid viewer of all the L&O and L&O SVU shows but, in recent years, the political overtones in the shows began to turn me off. TV dramas should not be a forum for pushing political views. However, they often show a liberal bias in their characters, lines and plots, which is something that does not sit well with everyone.
But now even that is a moot issue with me. Since I watched the major networks news programs pander to that same liberal political bias during the 2008 primaries and beyond, rather than remaining objective, I have almost totally quit watching ANYTHING on the three major networks, and I never watch CNN or MSNBC. I even get my local news from an independent channel instead of those affiliated with the three major networks. I am done with all of them.
Actually, there is much better stuff to be found on the History Channel, Discovery Channel, Discovery Health Channel, Animal Planet, Home & Garden, National Geographic, etc. They provide information and expand knowledge......and none of it comes with ideological overtones or political bias.
I hope the major networks wise up about these things. I, for one, have learned I can live quite nicely without them.
It is true, Jerry Orbach was a tremendous loss. Not only to the show but to entertainment. However, the writers continued to maintain the integrity of the show. Cast members come and go, but my interest level never wavered. What a loss.
Writers became too liberal. they are the ones who made it too hard to watch
One comment about reality TV. Unfortunately, it's a lot cheaper for the networks to make than scripted drama in that you don't have to pay actors and scriptwriters. Also, they draw in decent ratings. If more people would stop watching shows like "American Idol" and Survivor," then maybe there would be more scripted TV and shows like L&O would still be on the air.
One less show where the cops are always the good guys and never fail to outsmart and collar the bad guys in the allotted time of 42 minutes. Don't worry, there's plenty more of the same type of cop shows available.
Guess they want to be a station devoted to Game Shows only!
This sucks, I have been watching this show from the start. If they add another reality show, there goes tv. I hate reality shows. way to many
Contrary to what you mention, there have been many successful shows set in LA. The original "Perry Mason" with Raymond Burr was set in LA and lasted for 9 seasons before it ended. "LA Law" also had a decent run as well. The original "Law & Order" obviously had a great run at 20 seasons, and it's rare that anyone will match that anytime soon. Unfortunately, it was losing steam and viewers even before NBC made its ill-advised attempt to have the Leno show in prime time. Some of that might be due to the departure of favorites such as Jerry Orbach and Angie Harmon. Besides, "SVU" has definitely outstripped the original in popularity and the new LOLA series will definitely have the same format except in a different city, much like the CSI franchise is doing for CBS.
L&O was and still is a trailblazer and it will still live on in syndication, home video and in its numerous spin-offs. It's a shame that it got cancelled, but that happens to every show eventually. (Except "The SImpsons," it seems.)
I can just hear Lenny Briscoe saying "the Grammar police dont need to worry about the punctuation, but that the show has been cancelled"...
Perhaps the show should be replaced by Are You Smarter than an English Professoror or a CNN blogger " lollllllllllllll
It's not possessive, it's a contraction of it is. Think of it THIS way: IT IS the last episode.
As fans, maybe we should cancel NBC? The TV execs are so out of touch with viewers and they are being outprogrammed by cable.
I will miss L&O because of the quality of the script and acting.
They killed it because no one really cares. The ratings are in the dumper. I guess there were just too many cast changes all at one time to begin last season. As for the final episode; it won't be a finale. It was already in the can well before NBC made the decision to end the series.
I will stop watching NBC once the may 24th episode is over. I am tired of thier stupid stunts.
Another GREAT show gone. I'm so sick and tired of these reality *barf* k-rap that show very unbalanced individuals. Law & Order is incredibly well writen hence the reason why it endured for so long.
Everybody picks on John. How about the original mistake, CNN’s one? They used the apostrophe in a place they shouldn’t. Huh?
I read, over the Internet, a lot of comments with grammar problems. Well, this is America, for many English is the second (or third) language. But the guys at CNN, and especially those who overlook the published articles, should turn on their spelling engines or, for cases like this, (it’s vs. its) to complete their high school classes!
Well, after all, NBC was so successful with the Leno-OBrien fiasco, what do you expect. Our family has watched LAO since the beginning, and it is still fresh and innovative. Another nail in the coffin of network television, well I suppose that is why the network executives get the big bucks.
C'mon Jerry Orbach fans, he had already left the show prior to his death to be on another short-lived L & O spinoff. Can not remember the name.
IMHO, this is tragic news. I have been a fan of the original series, as well as SVU, since day one. Stuck with it through all the cast changes and have, in fact, been impressed that the quality of the shows has improved of late. Yes, I miss the days of Jerry Orbach and Chris Noth, but I think that the entire ensemble has been well constructed and the stories are still relevant and compelling. I suspected that there would be a problem when S. Epatha Merkeren decided to leave the show and news was released that Alana de la Garza is expecting a child in the fall. In fact, I turned to my husband and asked him what he thought would happen to the show. I thought it might be something exciting, like the ADA being attacked or Jack getting involved with her (don't say it's never been done), but never expected this. It is sad that a show of this quality will be dropped so that we can be entertained by yet another idiotic reality show or something of that ilk. God forbid, we force viewers to think about relevant social issues. I guess that I will have to continue to watch my reruns of L&O in order to see quality TV. Dick Wolf, to you and the entire cast and crew, thank you for 20 great years. May your future ventures be as entertaining, intelligent, and fruitful!
THIS IS JUST AWFUL. BEST SHOW ON TV.
THERE WILL NOTHING LEFT TO WATCH.
THESE TV EX. SHOULD HAVE THEIR HEADS EXAMINED, FULL OF MARBLES.
The people in here arguing over the difference between it's and its (which if spoken would sound identical) need to seriously think about getting off the computer and outside more. Not only could you pick that out of the ENTIRE article (and miss the point that a decent, although very long running show, has been canceled) but you took the time to argue the grammar of ONE WORD. You need to get out more. Get it?
I'm surprised people didn't think it ran about 5 years too long! These shows only teach criminals how to be better criminals.
This is terrible! I am heartbroken by this news. I have been a fan of Law & Order from episode 1 and have watched every episode since! I feel the characters have great chemistry this season and I can't believe it's being cancelled. NBC, you are making the absolutely WRONG move here!
It was over three years ago. They've kept that show on life-support because they fear what imagination might create. Besides, aren't we tired of giving potential criminals ideas on how to succeed in crime?
This program engaged in social commentary. That is in direct conflict
with our present Presidents desire to make us all dependent sheep.
A populice that thinks is harder to control therefore the need to "entertain" without causing thought. GOD help the USA

I am in TOTAL AGREEMENT with ALL the people that say, "KICK OFF THOSE CRAPPY REALITY SHOWS"! There is so much garbage Tacky reality shows suck like "Biggest Loser," Bachelorette," "Wife Swap," cheap to produce and mindless. TV, Lost, Survivor, and the list goes on and on. It all SUCKS! Put something on, that takes a little brain, to watch and understand.I wish the networks would cancel the "reality" shows like Survivor, Biggest Loser, Wife Swap, Amazing Race, Bachelor, Bachelorette,...etc Pathetic people out for their 15 min of fame. Yuk. I refuse to watch them. There is so much trash TV on evey fricken channel and yet this network chooses to take off a very popular show. The LENO thing shows they are creeps!
Yet another stupid move by NBC.........Let me guess, this will make room for more stupid, brainless, "oooh, look at me!" reality TV.
"I'm seriously starting to think NBC is a network run by chimps who make decisions by flinging feces at one another".
There is a hypothesis that if you give a room full of chimps a room full of typewriters, with enough time they will type the collected works of Shakespeare.
Perhaps NBC is trying to test this hypothesis. So take heart, Michael Smith.
Do you remember "Goodbye, farewell and Amen", nice long running show too. Most good things come to an end.
Law $ Order is the only show we watch on NBC. I don't care for SUV. Very much like the cast on L & O. Agree with the other commentator reference the other junk shows, e.g. Amazing Race, Survivor etc.
What type of audience are you catering to?
You should at least try to keep the same cast if at all possible.
I guess no more NBC for us!!!
Truly upset about this decision. What a bummer!!!!
Well, as long as they do not cancel SVU...I've never watch the orginal L&O
"Jerry Orbach also had a lot of broadway / off-broadway experience."
So true. I have an mp3 of him singing a good rendition of "42nd Street".
Never saw this show – only surfed by it over the years.
Any show that employs a shaky cam is clearly shy on substance.
This looked like the most boring show ever produced. Click ^
This bites. NBC should know better. Law & Order is awesome, and any show that has had an L.A. spinoff is terrible! TERRIBLE!!!! New York is gritty enough to add an edge to a crime drama. Even Miami is terrible (Hello, CSI!) ! TERRIBLE!!!!
seriously! WHY? This is the most nonsensical news I've ever heard. Law and Order is the type of show that could be around FOREVER if they wanted it to. It gets pretty good ratings. They could fire every actor and reinvent it if they wanted to.
I really just don't get it.
Is Sam Waterston moving to LA?
Law and order was definitely a great program, but eventually some good things must come to an end. Let's hope NBC can bring some fresh and innovative programming. Best of luck to the cast on Law and order. see you on the unemployment line.
Jerry Orbach also had a lot of broadway / off-broadway experience. I had a friend who caddied for him once in Westchester and he said the guy was a delight to be around. My only experience is him as Lenny Briscoe, but I loved him in that role.
Here's some more info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jerry_Orbach
Wow, I'm shocked and totally disappointed!! Why the heck is NBC cancelling Law & Order? That is one of my top 3 shows I watch every week. You know what NBC needs to do? They need to cancel Sharon Stone on SVU – she is a terrible actress.
This is not good!
Couldnt they bring the orgianl to another NBC network? Like they did with CI?
I may have to contact NBC and tell them what I think they should do. This is the best cast they have had in a long time.
They should bring the old cast to the new law and order!
Jerry Orbach played Baby's father in 1987's "Dirty Dancing", which was set in the 1960's.
This is odd. The Mayan calendar predicted L&O wouldn't end until 2012.
But I digress: HOW can NBC cancel Law and Order? It's a reliably good show.
as long as they don't get rid of svu im fine with it. I think that Law and Order SVu is amazing compared to just Law and Order. I believe law and order ci should be in second place. SVU in first. and the original in last. email me at firstname.lastname@example.org if you want to discuss anything.
The original Law and Order and Law and Order: SVU are the best. They should be canning LOLA instead. I'm disappointed.
Jerry Orbach was the best!
This stinks big time! The new cast was the best they had in a long time!
It's a sad day when they cancel one of the best programs on TV
on such short notice. Ya know, "what goes around, comes around."
Hope all those fine actors on the show will find new jobs quickly.
And to NBC, "bah, humbug!"
Between the cancellations of "24" and "Law and Order", we will now be left with "The Closer" as the only well-written and acted drama on TV. I will sorely miss the vibrant court room scenes that L and O has provided all these years, which to the best of my knowledge, is/was the only GOOD show that took us inside the halls of justice. What a loss!
Monty Python's Flying Circus
To John re Checkyourself: Checkyourself is right ("Come on, CNN... It should be "ITS last episode", not "it's""). "It's" is the contraction for "it is." "Its" is the possessive form of it.
Conjunction Junction, what's your function?
This show ceased to be L&O a few years ago. When every show becomes a soap opera, don't be surprised when people that don't want soapy plots stop watching.
I've followed this show through the years with its changing characters and some of the best scripts on TV. Why now? At least, provide a good ending to the series, maybe in a 2 hour movie event. Hopefully, fans can get a fix with re-runs and Law and Order marathons, not to mention buying DVDs. Thanks for a great run! It will be missed!
My best to all who are or were involved in this great series.
its = possessive for of it.
it's = the contraction of it + is.
So check facts before you tell people they're wrong. That is they+are
What a shame to cancel such a quality program. I have been a fan since the beginning and am sad to hear this news.
Is this even news or worth reporting as national news? Who gives a rat's posterior end about celebrities and television programs?
What a sad sad day *sniff* *sniff*
I'll miss you, Jack McCoy!
Everyone knows the possessive form if it is: it's'sss's
L&O is one of the few shows that I can watch over and over again – even if I know "whodunit" in the first 30 seconds having seen all the episodes multiple times. If I learned one thing from L&O, it's that you should ask for a lawyer right away. That always made the cops mad. :)
Jerry and Jesse were the best detective team.
"Do not despair L&O lovers. All 400 plus episodes are on a web site called TV Shack. Every episode from the very start to the very latest episode and wait for IT!!!!......no commercials!!! Check it out."
Thanks a bunch, George, for this tip.
I would suggest we not get too excited over network television. Before too long we will be able to watch whatever we want whenever we want over the Internet.
More empowerment to the viewer!
john "its" is the possessive form, "it's" is a contraction of "it is"....regardless, I'm really disappointed a great show is getting cancelled by a network that appears to have lost touch with its audience...
After the Jay Leno situation and now Law & Order I've come to believe that NBC is like the old routine "Who's On First". What happens to Law and Order "Criminal Intent"?
Great loss to television...it is one of the few shows that is not dumbed down and treats its viewers as intelligent people. It also avoids the usual crazy relationship drama of most shows and instead concentrates on a well developed storyline. Sad news.
Speaking of Sam Waterston shows, he was in a series called "I'll Fly Away" which was very good as well. NBC killed it too.
I can't believe they would keep Law and Order CI on the air with that awful Jeff Goldblum and whoever that babe is as his sidekick then get rid of the best show on tv? What are these people smoking? This sucks!
The show was never the same after Jerry Orbach's death. Then Jesse Martin left and it went downhill after that. Epatha was leaving after this season, so maybe they decided it would be too hard to replace her and they would be right. I love SVU and have become a fan of Criminal Intent, so there will still be plenty of Law and Orders for me to watch. They seem to recycle their actors, so maybe some of them will show up on LOLA.
I too hate this great move into the future of this spin off. this show did take a huge hit when Jerry died but they then added Anthony Anderson and that was a huge bump back up. i too hope the the LA spin off falls flat on it's face. NBC cares nothing about it's fans but what is new no corporation currently cares about we the people. this is just one more sign that the corporate world does what they want to and we have to live with it.
Do not despair L&O lovers. All 400 plus episodes are on a web site called TV Shack. Every episode from the very start to the very latest episode and wait for IT!!!!......no commercials!!! Check it out.
This is the best show on t.v. Please reconsider!!!
Los Angeles? Seriously?
HOpefully that transition will go better than it did for NCIS!
I would hate 2 have the name "John" in this convo. Also I assume in this bunch "checkyourself" would run for president. lol. Great Show, but it really is time....
Jerry Orbach and Jesee L. Martin were the best! Miss you Jerry – RIP!
""The Killing Fields" was released in 1984. I didn't realize Sam was in "The Great Gatsby" (great book, never saw a movie version) but I will check it out, thanks!
Thanks for the 1984 dating.
Never saw the "Killing Fields", but heard many great things about it. I believe it's about the Cambodian genocide in the late 1970's, if I'm not mistaken.
I'm seriously starting to think NBC is a network run by chimps who make decisions by flinging feces at one another
Sure. Let's cancel a quality show and replace it with another...
1. SciFi Show (Lost, FlashForward, Fringe, V)
2. Medical Show (Miami something, CSI something, Private Practice)
3. Lame Reality Show (Get married, Lose weight, Human tricks)
Of late the trials have become a trial as they have moved from one twist to another. If they in fact applied law so sloppily in real life, they would be eaten alive by the defense. You can't change who you want to prosecute willy-nilly or your credibility will be crushed.
Hi its John. Sorry my apostrophe key is now broken.
Law and Order is the BEST crime show on TV. This is a BIG MISTAKE. They should keep Law and Order and add Law and Order Los Angeles just like they did with NCIS and NICIS LA. I and I know many others can't get enough of this show and it will be watched in re-runs for years.
I can't believe this, yet they keep crappy people like Leno on. Can they not get Anything right! This show is the only reason that I watch their station anyway. I like how the show has done so much about current events, that is one of the reasons that I love it.. They will probably put ANOTHER STUPID REALITY SHOW on, which to me is a Joke! I hate those. There are still people out here that love Drama/Crime shows. I love the marathons and DVR them when they come on. NBC, YOU ARE A JOKE!!!
Damn whoever John was to point out checkyourself has suddenly grown silent... must be because his blunder got him served.
"When Law & Order debuted in 1990, only CEOs had cell phones and Sam Waterston was just the guy from The Killing Fields. For the next two decades, through several rotating casts of cops and lawyers, the show proceeded to build a whole universe of shadowy intentions and cross examinations. If you’re like me, you were never a regular viewer, but you still somehow managed to watch literally hundreds of hours of Law & Order. And so, you’re probably feeling just a little twinge of sadness at the news that NBC has canceled the venerable cop show."
"English Degree Holder, You need to learn how to read! "
Oh No! The virus has spread from K12 to post-secondary education!
Heaven help us all.
Good-bye NBC for good! Wherever L&O ends up or the reruns continue to run, that's where you'll find me. Wonderful people in decision-making positions - NOT!
First Conan, now L&O... what reason do we have to watch NBC again?
GREAT first 24 now Law & Order. Please DO NOT REPLACE great shows with all these "Reality Shows". I think NBC has lost it's mind. If they were gonna cancell a show, make it The Office or another one of those so called comedy show. I guess its all Trutv or ID Discovery now... See ya NBC.
This show is one of the only smart and intriguing show's out there...and they cancel it. NBC you've made yet another smart business and viewer decision....NOT!
"The Killing Fields" was released in 1984. I didn't realize Sam was in "The Great Gatsby" (great book, never saw a movie version) but I will check it out, thanks!
Love Law and Order. What a GREAT TV series. Time to go buy the DVDs.
I can't believe they canceled Sanford and Son.
"Sam was in "The Killing Fields." Back when he still had dark hair."
In 1973, Sam was in the "Great Gatsby", and he had really dark hair then also.
When did "Killing Fields" come out?
Law and Order was played out a long time ago, LOLA is a joke and while SVU has some of the most amusing bad acting moments, I have to admit that the story lines are compelling at least half of the time! It is nice to see that NBC is still slow to put shows out of their misery.
BRING BACK QUINCY M.E!
Conan had it right, they are morons!! I'll tell you what needs to be cancelled, NBC's executives who made this horrible decision. Unbelievable!! Please let another network pick them up! You know what "they" say, one man's trash is another' pot of GOLD!!
BRING BACK SHERIFF LOBO!
"B0bc4t – stop walking on your knuckles and you'll feel better."
this is the worst run network in television history, to can one the greatest TV's shows in the history of TV is totally unforgivable!!!
No way! I am so disappointed. This is one of the few best dramas left on tv: it is classy, well scripted, well acted, entertaining and interesting to watch. How sad!
Sam was in "The Killing Fields." Back when he still had dark hair.
English Degree Holder,
You need to learn how to read! Checkyourself was completely correct to post:
Come on, CNN... It should be "ITS last episode", not "it's".
(Well, except that the period should have been inside of the end quote.)
The complete sentence to which this referred was: "Its last episode will be on Monday, May 24." CNN apparently corrected it from the orginal (grammatically incorrect) post which read "It's last episode..." CNN's sentence was incorrect when checkyourself made the comment, but is correct now. John was always incorrect. English Degree Holder can't read.
But, to the subject that's really at hand, I never got into the original Law & Order. SVU & CI are much better, in my opinion.
The right wing didn't like them exposing them when politics were involved so they had it canceled.
B0bc4t – stop walking on your knuckles and you'll feel better.
Say it aint so...been watching since it's inception. Great characters and hope SVU continues. NBC SUCKS!
Anyone else have the feeling that some of the main actors were going to retire? I love the show, but with some of the main people gone it would die anyways.
All this grammar instruction is making my knuckles hurt.....
I think I see the nun with her ruler checking the comments again
sit up straight, boys!
why is nbc so dum
It's a shame that NBC can't see past the nose on the end of its face.
"The fact that more than one, or two, or three people chose to debate the proper usage of grammar, or lack there of, has lead me to believe that IT'S pretty pathetic that ITS the only thing in their lives worth discussing. May I contribute to, and possibly conclude the discussion by saying WHO CARES!!!!!"
The second "ITS" also needs an apostrophe.
"WHO CARES" is a question, and needs to be terminated with a ? not an !
BTW, the answer to the question "WHO CARES" is a priori obvious. It's the more than one or two or three people who choose to discuss it.
Wait, what show? I haven't even heard of this show. No wonder they're canceling it!
That's a shame. The current cast is one of the strongest in years (Jeremy Sisto in particular I think has been great), and the writing is still top-notch. Oh well, there'll still be 20 years worth of reruns to enjoy and I'll definitely give this new series a shot if it retains the same format as the original.
NBC, you're done. First you screw over Conan, now you cancel my favorite show. I'm blocking your lousy channel and hope you'll go bankrupt soon.
@jst – it's "Thereof" not "there of." Jeez! j/k
never expected this year to be final. i am very disappointed cuz this is the one of the very very few shows i watch with my hubby.
No! There needs to be an outcry by fans. This is a special show, and I am sorry they are taking this step. What were they thinking??
Law & Order was the only reason I watched NBC after they went crazy about Leno.
The fact that more than one, or two, or three people chose to debate the proper usage of grammar, or lack there of, has lead me to believe that IT'S pretty pathetic that ITS the only thing in their lives worth discussing. May I contribute to, and possibly conclude the discussion by saying WHO CARES!!!!!
@Dustin – lolumad? You're mad about ppl who are mad. That makes you a double loser I guess. Double fatty too.
I feel a twinge of sadness at its ending, but you gotta admit: the acting and especially the writing has been lacking a bit in recent years. It's time.
NOOOOOOOOOOO! This is by far the best of the L&O's. NBC execs are morons!!!!
I have watched L&O since the very beginning and will miss it greatly. Once the last episode runs, I will not longer be watching NBC on Monday nights. If we are lucky, one of the cable networks will continue with new episodes....like they did with L&O CI.
I wonder if there is ANY chance that a smarter network picks up L&O? How great would it be to see L&O flourish on CBS or ABC while whatever garbage NBC puts in its place flounders? A guy can dream....
bong bong (L&O sound)
Too bad they canceled SouthLAnd, too. The execs at NBC must be drinking some bad water.
I'm down to 3 shows I watch on NBC: Community, 30 Rock and SNL.
People sad or mad about a TV show being canceled need to get a life.
You know it's the obese slobs...
The show was on 20 years people! Everything has an ending; appreciate the two decades it was on and thrill to the idea that repeats will be on for another 20 years.
Will the people who wish ;to discuss the cancellation of Law and Order please start your own thread?
This one is about English grammar:)
Another great show canceled. Maybe those of us who want to watch more, than the lowest common denominator of television should start a network of our own.
I've been watching L&O since the beginning, with Michael Moriarty and Chris Noth. It is a faboulous series and will be missed.
First they cancel BJ McKay and his best friend Bear and NOW THIS!
This is atrocious !!! You have the best franchise in tv business and do not have the sense to continue. With all your recent stupid mistakes–namely the "Tonight Show" fiasco–it seems you would have more common sense. I am really angry that you would dismiss this!!!
"There has never, never been a successful tv show of any type set in LA (maybe Adam 12). "
L.A. Law was successful.
I can understand people leaving the show after Jerry Orbach left.
Dick Wolf should publish his one-liners in a book. It would make a mint! I would buy it.
"Coffee cart vendor (deciphering an order for "skinny cap, no lead."): Decaffeinated cappuccino, with skim milk.
Lennie: What's the point? :"
"Mike (discussing infidelity as a motive for murder): Don't wives always know?
Lennie: Mine did.
Mike: Yours didn't hire a hit man.
Lennie: Not yet. "
How STUPID can some people be????...canceling the best show around tells me people can really be pretty STUPID!!!!!!!!
Oh GOODY. NBC is replacing their flagship in the series with another crime drama set in a sunny location filled with beaches and palm trees. JUST WHAT THE VIEWERS WANTED. Without Sam Waterson, L&O is dead. Way to screw up YET AGAIN, NBC.
This is a travesty. The only show that I regularly watched on NBC. Well, i guess it's CBS 7 nights a week now.
Poor John. So sure of himself and so wrong. :(
It appears that NBC will be their own BIGGEST LOSER by doing this and to the other 'REAL' prime time viewers. I for myself have been a dedicated viewer to all the Law & Order chapters from the start. Too bad I'll be just one of many more to say goodbye to viewing NBC.
I'm gonna miss Dr. Emil Skoda. If you spell that backwards you get "A Dok Slime."
NBC can ruin anything. Their programming managers are idiots and they truly aide the "dumbing down of America". They were wrong when they first booted them out of their Wednesday time slot and they equally wrong canelling the show now. TNT should pick it up and run it against NBC's line up and put the miserable network out of its misery!
Yet another reason to avoid my local NBC affiliate and the network in general. Wasn't a fan of Conan, but he got screwed. I wonder what kind of idiotic sitcoms or faux reality shows they're going to replace it with? That seems to be the way most networks are going. It seems they think we're all idiots.
Maybe a facebook campaign ala Betty White & SNL.
John, you're (you are) taking as big a flogging as NBC is.
I think somebody used the word its or it's wrong or something like that.
Can someone please check on the proper use of its and it's please.
Also – NBC didn't help L&O by moving it around to different nights constantly. I can't even tell you what night it normally runs any more. I do know that I can watch Jerry Orbach on TNT about 4-5 times a day.
Every comment in this thread is to be ignored, as are the people who posted them. They are all irrelevant. We are all irrelevant
At NBC, we drive the failbus off the failcliff into the failocean.
...and yes Jerry moved on to L&O: Trial by Jury, but you could see the cancer had already taken a lot out of him by then.
I stopped watching after Lennie Briscoe left. His one-liners at the beginning of the show were always entertaining. During the show's heyday, there was nothing on the air that came close.
L&O died when Jerry Orbach died.
To all you L&O fans:
Orbach was off L&O before he died. He was in his own spin-off named "Law and Order – In the Courts" or something like that. Died while making the 6th or 7th episode, I think. Sharon Stone was signed up to be a cast member for the May 24th show, along with the USA's top female skier (don't remember name). Guess she asked for the spot.
L&O – Criminal Intent was on NBC for around five years, then went to USA. Still there with a whole new cast – it's third cast.
L&O – SVU has been on 15 years with it's original cast! Got my VCR (or whatever) programmed to record every episode. I really like SVU better than I liked the original L&O, but they were close.
Really gonna miss "Law and Order." Now I know why NBC is ranked behind Fox.
John, Checkyourself is correct. "It's" is an abbreviation for "it is" or "it has". "Its" is an adj. modifying "last". So "its last episode" is correct. Checkyourself was right. No apostrophe needed.
WHAT?? I can't believe that one of the best shows on tv for this year or any year that it has been televised is now getting the boot! NBC keeps cutting its own throat with replacements that last maybe 8 episodes. At least it was one of the shows I always watched while all the other network drivel (reality show junk) was broadcast. If any of the L&O shows needed to be booted, L&O:CI should have been gone after the big mistake was made by eliminating Vincent D'Onofrio and Kathryn Erbe and replacing them with Jeff Goldblum, Mastrantonio and some unknown. I'll still watch SVU but am appalled that the original L&O has been junked for WHAT? A finer showcast could not be find anywhere as all the actors have done a great job over the years, especially Markerson and Waterston and the newest group consisting of Roche, DeLaGarza, Sisto and, especially Anderson have done a great job and I'll miss them. Shame on you, NBC!!!
1) L&O was the best crime/ courtroom drama on TV, 2) It was the only crime drama that did not either disturb me or gross me out, 3) It seems to me that NBC's strategy is to cancel every show that most people like to put on something cheaper that tweens and rubes enjoy. Well done, NBC.
I am so happy to find a blog where they have long discussions of punctuation.
It's like listening to "Car Talk" – just kind of fun.
L&O had lost a little bit of its audience recently, but it is still an excellent show. In my opinion, SVU has become the premiere L&O. I hope L&O gets the Criminal Intent treatment and just picks up on a cable network. The current cast is still a good group and the writing still top notch. It gets a little political, but they do use stories "ripped from the headlines".
This is ridiculous, this is possibly the most successful TV show on the air, especially the original. Great Job on this one guys!!!
One of the few programs My husband and I enjoy watching. Law and Order is one of the few quality programs on television today. One by one quality shows are being canceled and replaced by programs that can only be classified as junk TV. Who are these people making these decisions? Have they graduated high school yet?
Regarding 'It's' or 'Its',
You have to ask William Jefferson Clinton about that one. He's the one that replied under oath:
"It depends on what the meaning of is is."
"Second, John is right...google it. "The possessive case of nouns in English is formed by using an apostrophe plus the letter s" grammarmudge.com"
Only one problem ."It" is a pronoun, not a noun. John is NOT right.
Some posts to this thread are revealing the shocking state of K-12 education.
Let me guess, they are going to fill the time slot with Jay Leno thinking that this will save their pathetic network. This is why I watch cable.
After botching Conan, the NBC brass decides to drop L&O one season before making the record books? A 6-7 episode season is untenable for the production/performers' schedules. And to open an LA franchise? Really? In syndication, Dick Wolf will laugh all the way to the bank.
They should reconsider. They will be missed by me and many.
Bring back Michael Moriarty and Paul Sorvino.
let's face it, this show had great writing, great acting, and good chemistry. They always replaced well; Paul Sorvino, Michael Moriarity, Chris Noth, Ben Bratt, Jerry Orbach, Jessie L. Martin. They just ran out of luck now. The new ADA is an annoying, sanctimonious putz, and the cops aren't as good as Jessie, Jerry, Chris, etc. It's a shame, but it's time to pack it in.
Another brillant decision by the same people who thought Leno at 10:00 was the next great thing only to be compounded by their handling of the O'Brien Show. It's quite apparent that they have no clue. I didn't realize that a broadcast company who had to scramble to fill five hours of prime time air had the luxury of dismissing a rock solid show.
"Would you call Einstein an idiot if he happened to forget an apostrophe, or insert one incorrectly? "
The people who are unaware of the difference between "its" and "it's" do not strike me as Einsteins (plural, not possessive, so no need of an apostrophe).
Can anyone provide me of an example of Albert Einstein misspelling a word?
First, I love this show. It will come on for hours and I would watch it late into the night.
Second, John is right...google it. "The possessive case of nouns in English is formed by using an apostrophe plus the letter s" grammarmudge.com
"It" is being referred to the show. "It's" is showing the "it" (show) is owning something i.e. the last episode.
Now where am I going to get a regular Linus Roache fix?!
OH NO, I'VE BEEN A FAN OF LAW AND ORDER SINCE MY TEENS. NOW I'M IN MY MID 30'S. GUESS ALL THINGS MUST COME TO AN END.
let another network it up its the only show on tv that repesents an actual believeble story line
The headline use of IT'S is correct, by the way! And LO has lost a lot in the last couple of years. I watch it when nothing else appeals to me.
I cant believe this. Sam Waterson is my favorite OF ALL TIME. SUV is good, but it is not as good as regular Law and Order. I didnt even know Criminal Intent was still on NBC – I just thought it was on TNT or whatever?
NBC really stinks. First you moved Law and Order all over the map this year because of your idiot move with Leno and Conan, and it was a disgrace. I still made sure to DVR L&O every Friday night, and then NBC changed it to Monday night. Now of course they are giving it the axe. I wonder what will be replacing it. I am sure it will be something ridiculous like a reality show that I will have no interest in watching, but will cost them roughly about 20 cents to make per episode. After all that was the hope with the whole Leno fiasco wasn't it. Pretty soon the networks might as well throw in the towel.
Bad call. The show has been solid and one we don't miss. It is highly likely that whatever they replace it with will be of less interest. Makes you wonder why NBC thinks they have a better idea... cuz, I'm telling you, they don't ;)
Sorry, John, but you're wrong. It's = it is. Its = possessive.
I'm an editor and an English teacher, and it took me a long time to get this straight.
Sorry to lose this show. But you had to think to watch it and like it, probably why NBC killed it.
For the grammar police (Geez, nuttin better to do?) The rule here is simple: Possessive pronouns don't use apostrophes. His, hers, whose, yours, theirs, ours, its. If it's a possessive, it's spelled without an apostrophe.
I have watched Law and Order from the beginning. NBC must be insane to cancel it, they have nothing else worth watching. One based in LA? No, I will not watch it. Don't want anything to do with California in any way. The detectives would all be wackos.
Where will i be able to see Jeremy Sisto??
So, cancel the good show, the original. Leave behind the weak pretenders. Why don't they ever ask the viewers?
Based on the comments, it's hard to determine if the story was about the cancellation of Law & Order or about the correct usage of "it's" vs "its".
To: ideaforlastepisode - Love it - I can just picture Lenny saying that!
EVERYONE please, cool off with the grammar war. We don't need the entire world ganging up on "John" and "checkyourself"! It was an honest mistake, there's multiple uses of it's/its in this article, they could have been referring to different things. It's not a big deal. CNN was probably so distraught over the loss of quality television that they made a typo.
English, please? Who wrote this article? Really bad grammar and run on sentences.
I'm going to miss Law & Order...my favorite show!!!
This has been my favorite program. I am sad to see it go. How can something so successful go away. I really don't care about LOLA, I love the people on L&O now they mesh so well. Too bad they can't last just another season or two.
what a disgrace! this always, and still is, one of the best shows on tv.
it is a strong show w/an excellent cast and should continue on as a
landmark series. i think nbc is making a big mistake cancelling this series. it is, and always has been, my favorite show. give us a break and put it back on. there aren't many decent drama show, and this is
a big setback. what is the reason for the cancellation?
Just wanted to jump on the John-bashing band wagon. There are probably 50 posts saying John got it wrong... Here's # 51 – for the lulz
1) Quit arguing over grammar. They corrected the error.
2) Noooooo! I have been watching this show forever. Love Sam Waterston and Linus Roache. The addition of the Michael Cutter charecter was what brought me back to the show. Between this and LOST wrapping up, what's left to watch? SVU is too depressing, though well acted. L&O is one of those shows that can never run out of "ripped from the headlines" fodder. Come on, NBC!
law and order has been one of the best series on TV I have watched
since the beginning. It is hard to see it die but in this day of ratings
only it didn't make it. Sad real sad but hey its another reason to watch
How does this affect Law & Order C. I.? I understand that NBC is not involved in that, but I really like that show!
Actually, checkyourself, you're wrong ond CNN is correct. "It's" is a contraction of "It is" as in "It is official." If you're going to complain about grammar, then at least be smart enough to be correct in your complaint.
Too bad NBC decided to cancel "Law And Order". It's one of my favorite shows for the past few decades. They still manage to keep this show fresh and I look forward to each new episode. I also like SVU and CI, but the original L&O is the best.
hukt on fonicks wurkt fur mi!!!
cancel CNN! it's not really news anyways!
Maybe the last episode could be about a murder that follows an argument on a news website comment thread regarding whether it's more important that a popular long running TV drama is getting axed within sight of breaking a record, or that the news website knows the difference between a possessive and a contraction.
If Lenny Briscoe (RIP Jerry Orbach) could open the show, maybe he would be standing over a body saying:
"Looks like they got too possessive of that apostrophe."
Another reason to dislike NBC. Pretty soon I won't have a reason to tune in to it all.
NBC is cutting costs. They want to sell themselves to Comcast.
When Jerry Orbach passed away, they had a problem. Too bad they did not bring Chris Noth back.
I don't watch NBC like I use to. And there goes one of the shows I did. Down to two on NBC, SVU and Heroes (which this fall's 5th season looks to be its last)
What is going on with the morons at NBC you are taking one of your best shows off of TV and for what to bring it to LA whoopty-do just add that show but don't cancel the backbone show. Gosh you already screwed us out of good show since 2006 we lost Conviction, E-ring, and Crossing Jordan. In 2007 we lost Raines. In 2008-9 we lost Crusoe, Life, The Philanthropist, and My Own Worst Enemy. Yet you give us crappy shows like Biggest Loser and Celebrity Apprentice ditch the reality and go back to good ole drama/action/suspense/comedy tv.
NBC what idiots, canceling the best series, best show and why, it is a secret!
The show has just lost so many great characters, they can only withstand so many losses.
and of course Sam as the Executive ADA
Always one of my favorite shows, but I'm not wild about Sam Waterston as the DA. My favorite cops were Briscoe and Logan.
Too bad – my favorite show. Always interesting to find out who did it and how they were found out.
Well, at least it managed to tie with Gunsmoke, but I don't think *anybody's* gonna ever beat The Simpsons.
Thank goodness for PBS and USA network. And do not forget the RADIO-you know–the little box with the big voice !! You can listen to any type of program and still do other things, (read, chores, talk etc.) instead of sitting in front of the BOOB Tube, because that is surely what the major networks have made of TV.
I enjoyed reading all the comments about ""its/it's"". Perhaps we should not use contractions at all.
poor John. never use a relative conjunction with a superlative adverb hehehehe
This just makes me sad. I love that show. SVU is my favorite but the court room scenes are the best in the original. I hope they have a really good reason for doing this. NBC keeps making decisions that make me flip the channel and I've been a loyal NBC watcher for most of my life.
Remember when NBC was the very best network on the air? No, I suppose most of you can't remember that because you hadn't been born yet.
JESUS F^%$'ING CHRIST! ARE YOU GUYS ACTUALLY DEBATING THE WORD "ITS/IT'S"? LET IT GO PEOPLE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
This gets cancelled and Sara Palin gets a show on Discovery, W.T.F.
This show has sucked for quite a while, it's time to take it out back and shoot it. I found it very lazy when they produced shows with the tag line, "ripped from today's headlines." Taking a serious and awful real life event where people have been murdered and families torn apart, to "create" entertainment was disgusting. Lazy writing, lazy network, lazy viewers.
I cannot believe that a wonderful show like Law and Order be given the axe when so called reality shows are allowed to stay. I bet they wanted to free the time slot up for another bimbo type show! What is real about those other shows NOTHING. Yet, NBC is bowing our of a wonderfully written show which took its many shows from real events in the news.
How terribly sad.
This is the end of the world. Law & Order is the best show ever!
For some reason, I'm going to get involved in this completly ridiculous grammar argument to point out that spelling and grammar are not necessarily indicators of intelligence. Why call each other "idiot" over such a stupid thing? Some of the brightest people in history habitually mispelled words, or made grammar errors. Would you call Einstein an idiot if he happened to forget an apostrophe, or insert one incorrectly? Grow up. You're just being jerks. Geez.
Law & Order was the only show left that I watched on network television stations. There is nothing left worth watching. However, the show was deteriorating. Maybe if they hadn't strayed from the original formula, the show might have survivied.
I can't believe this!!!! How could you let it go. What am I going to watch now? I guess no new episodes and I am looking at reruns on USA and TNT. Now I only have 1 TV series to watch on NBC.
My favorite is the Criminal Intent series. Wish NBC would put this back on their network.
Alright Facebook fans, get the ball rolling... Get this show back on the air!!!
To Campbell Brownie: Law & Order doesn't have "political overtones". That's code for idiots saying "I think it portrays right wingers in an unfavorable light". If right wingers had any intellilgence or their worldview wasn't so absolutely ridiculous then they wouldn't appear that way on L&O or any other show.
Maybe you need to expand that narrow mind of yours or quit watching Fox News.
Comcast (or Xfinity) bought NBC. They make great decisions don't they!!
I'm glad there are so many people out there who know the difference between its and it's!! :) Even my sixth grade teacher 'corrected' my 'mistake'.
P.S. Checkyourself is correct...
VERY upset that NBC screwed the Law and Order frachise a few years ago. I was an avid Law and Order fan until NBC shuffled the shows all over the lineups...changed times...changed nights...changed network (USA). I was up to date on each of the shows until this happened. I couldn't even get a good DVR fix on any of them...got lost and then lost interest. The productions should shop for a new network. Maybe FOX would be interested in supporting a successful franchise! Thanks NBC! Keep moving me away from your network!
WOW....another one bites the dust. I can't believe NBC exec's are soooo stupid....Oh wait, aren't they the same ones that did the Leno/Konan thing....well, yeah I guess they can be that stupid!!
Reality TV sucks: I don't care about your weight loss, your marriage, your kid, or your housewife. Bring back the well written dramas that people could actually get into and enjoy!!!
NBC = Stupid, stupid, stupid!!!!
In honor of LAW & ORDER check out this list of 20 Actors Who Appeared on "Law & Order" Before They Were Stars.
With so many "Law & Order" episodes and spinoffs running nearly 24 hours a day, will anyone really notice that it's been canceled at all?
Great! There is me turning off the television for GOOD! Learned a lot from the show. I know people with say: Well you have SVU, but that's a creepy show! Never really go into CI but hey there are always re-run on TNT!
Are you kidding? This show sucked. Poor acting hiding behind cliched lines. Same for CSI.
Perhaps you don't remember L.A. Law. It was a very successful series. Also Dragnet, 77 Sunset Strip, 90210 and there are many more.
Thank You, the pretend-to-be-a-cop show is done with. Jezz, the show was so far away from reality or even want-a-be that only a lonely person could enjoy it.
Nooooooo! NBC strikes again!
rigs- "when Jerry Orbach passed away i lost interest in this show"
This is so sad! I love the original L&O, but sadly my schedule has changed, and so has theirs, so it's hard for me to catch it. Now if they'd just catch up to CBS and put these shows ON DEMAND, I wouldn't miss an episode. It's still one of the most intelligent scripts on TV and I sure hope it will continue to live in rerun land for a long time.
Here's another thought...maybe they could jump ship and go over to one of the OTHER networks?????
FINALLY! The writing on L&O was so terrible this year that I could barely watch it. Better to go out while people are still watching than to remain on life support after the writing has gone down the toilet. The opening-scene one-liners haven't been the same since Jerry Orbach, and lately the courtroom scenes have usually ended with some completely implausible cross-examination meltdown that left me wondering whether I hadn't tuned in to a soap opera by mistake. I've been watching since the '90s, but nostalgia for the days when it was a well-written show was the only thing keeping L&O on my Tivo for the past year or so.
YUCK,,,,MY FAVORITE SINCE THE 1ST SHOW!
I love it when a long running series gets canceled and people take arms. Did you think the show would last forever? You should have made your peace around season 10. Any season after that is merely a bonus.
Now, to cancel "The Simpsons".
are you serious Law and Order canceled no way there will officially be nothing on tv anymore first there was ER and now this come on thank goodness for reruns
As much as I have liked Law & Order through the years, every series comes to an end at some point. And it's better that it's sooner than later. Too many outstanding series have been spoilt by running them too long i.e. Northern Exposure. It's better to remember and miss a good show than to hope that it would be mercifully put to sleep.
The show has been great with Sisto and Anderson. Love the storylines. Leave it to NBC to make such a crap decision.
One less reason to be watching NBC! What a bunch of JERKS!
RIP Law & Order. I'll catch you on the re-run side of A&E, TNT, or wherever.
"I wonder if L&O actually has a higher episode count than Gunsmoke?"
No, this is run down in a Washington Post article, which you can find online. It's not even really that close–apparently, TV seasons were longer then:
"At the end of its 20 seasons, "Gunsmoke" has churned out 635 episodes. At the end of its 20-year-run, "Law & Order" will have produced a paltry 456 episodes"
First D'Onofrio leaves Criminal Intent, then 24 is cancelled, now this. What do I have to do – get a real life?
I'll miss you, best show on TV.
NBC always cancels the shows people watch and keeps the stuff they don't, like Leno.
Thanks for canceling another good quality show. What we need is more game shows. I can not express the feelings I had when while looking over the currnet programs that NBC has a new show Minute to Win It. Watching someone un-roll toilet paper.............now that is quality you can not find anywhere. NBC has turned to crap. Most of the shows I enjoy are all on the alterntive cable channels. Way to go NBC
(Now Broadcasting Crap)
One of the best, least sensationalized "cop" dramas on TV, on for years, loyal audiences, cutting edge social commentary, great actors (Waterston is the best!), multiple spin-offs, reruns galore watched by millions. So, let's cancel it !!!!!!!!!!! WHAT?!?!?! What the hell are you thinking? Are you guys at NBC ready to rollover and be dead? You're headed that way!!!
Well, they could always bring back LA Law for all you courtroom drama junkies.
Besides NCIS is a much better show than Law n Order.
I don't know what is worse. NBC canceling the show or all the grammar comments.
I think the show should have ended after the death of Jerry Orbach. He was the heart and soul of the show and it was never the same. It was a great show.
Maybe you should check yourself. It's = It is Its = possesive.
Part of the problem is they kept moving the show around, I never knew from one week to the next where it would be – which night, what time, etc. Gone are the days when they'd put a show in a certain time slot and leave it there.
I'll miss Jack McCoy, the best DA in the world.
Why?..you just got a good new cast and cannot believe your taking it off the air. Idiot move!
I guess that too many people are watching reality TV which is junk anyway. It produces "stars" such as Heidi and Spencer and the like....sad...really sad!
I am sad to hear this...
I can't believe this. They have shows like Minute to Win it that requires zero intelligence to watch but a show that has been on for over 19 years that deals with real life issues they cancel. Makes no sense to me. I guess that just goes to show you that more and more people want to watch things that require no energy on their part. Too bad for us....
"Its" is correct, it's is a contraction for "it is".
@checkyourself: they are only using the post from another media resource, EW.com
This straight sucks!! I have been debating whether to cancel my cable but now there's no question!! Law and Order is done so will my cable. Thanks NBC!!! Take the best show off the air!~
Leave it to NBC to screw up a good thing. Really, when is the network going to clean-house?
I want an offical ruling. It is, "it's" or "its"....as for the cancellation, "Whatcha talkin 'bout Willis?!?"
the loss of Jerry Orbach was definately the death knell for this show, it hasn't been the same since.
Any chance of a "super" last episope with appearances from those of years past? would be a shame not to!
So what's next NBC? "Dancing w/former L%O ADAs"? "Former L&O Detectives vs 100?"
I am very sad to see this go. The only thing I watch are the L&O series and Bones.
Best of luck to all the actors, you will be missed.
The grey haired actor is a tool!
This was a good show with great actors. That's a sad shame.
I'm hoping TNT will give it a reprieve and let it go at least one more year. I wonder if L&O actually has a higher episode count than Gunsmoke? Or perhaps the Gunsmoke episodes which ran during the radio years get counted into their episode count? I don't know why but whenever Gunsmoke is on I only catch the same 20 or 25 episodes.
Smurf85 – why go out and buy all the seasons? All you're doing is padding the pockets of the morons that canceled the show. Just go out and download them, or watch them online for free!
I keep waiting for The Law and Order Channel to launch. Nothing but L&O every day.
Think I'm crazy? I hardly ever change channels without finding at LEAST one episode in progress. So it just makes sense.
"checkyourself" is correct. In journalism, especially print, AP style does not use an apostrophy in the word its. regardless of high school or college style, journalism is ITS own monster.
Big mistake. Favorite show for years. NBC should cancel their management and find people with brains.
Fu- NBC and all reality shows!!!
Stop trying to get CNN on this site to reconsider, it is not their decision, so stop complaining about this stupid show, it's not the end of the world that this crappy show got taken off the air. it's better for TV this way.
NBC: run by Executives that were too stupid to just collect unemployment.
Seriously, is there a bigger, more clueless dolt in all of entertainment than Jeff Zucker?
NBC Messed up another good program with all the changing around they did on their programs. I sure hope another station picks it up
I really hope Morning's post at 2:56 PM is in jest !!!
I've been a fan of Law & Order from the beginning, but I quit watching on NBC when Jerry Orbach passed and the next wave of actors appeared. Fortunately, you can still catch episodes as reruns on cable.
FIOS and movies on demand looks better and better.
Also even reruns are better than that the networks are trying to feed us.
Sad to see one of the good shows leave. But like everything else it is all about the money and profit margins.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO why are they doing this, I am going to cry, and then go and buy all the seasons on DVD with lot's off popcorn and candy =(
I enjoy and watch all episodes of LAO and LAO-LA and SVU. I do not understand why the network would cancel the show. It was just one of the few times I tuened into the network. Those morons in charge up there screwed up every other good bit of programming the network had and now they have screwed this up too. I see why this network is having problems. They can't keep viewers because when they get something that works they have to go and fix it. Well they have lost one more viewer and I also understand that it doesn't matter to those executives because they are getting their big bonuses. That's all that matters to them.
Too bad; It's SVU that has "Jumped the Shark" this season; although I would hate to see that go, they need to get back to a more 'realistic' story line. Will miss the original though.
THAT'S IT. HEARD ENOUGH.
I'm having Goren & Eames find out who's responsible for this nonsense. Once the culprit has surfaced he or she will have to deal with Nicole Wallace.
Shame on you NBC. I watched Law and Order during its earliest days, with Michael Moriarty, Chris Noth, George Dzundza...I had good times watching it with my Dad and enjoyed the show all of these years. A 21st season would've been an amazing accomplishment. You have failed so much in recent times, NBC. The other Law and Order versions are not comparable or as entertaining or as straightforward as the original. I really wish you would reconsider and allow Dick Wolf to produce a full season of Law and Order, not just a few episodes to fill in wherever you see fit. The collapse of good dramas on network television continues.
Sad day in television. In Congo (Africa) we are 1 season behind. Sad to know that the next one will be the last
checkyourself and anyone agreeing w/ checkyourself
both are correct!
It's official: 'Law and Order' is done
which ever one you are talking about when referring to incorrect grammar??
All I can say is............it's a sad state of affairs when shows of the caliber of Law and Order are cancelled when these so-called "reality TV" shows are allowed to continue. L&O is an intelligent, well-written, entertaining drama, and it truly is a 'crime' that it's being let go. VERY disappointing NBC. NOT a smart move. Thank goodness for syndication and reruns.
Best show on TV – been watching it forever.....with all the other crap on tv, for instance Jay Leno – PLEASE LEAVE LAW AND ORDER alone...
Actually, "it's" is correct Showing ownership to the series.. Without the apostrophe "its" just means more than one it.. Not an English major are you?
Why are people so surprised? You guys need to stop saying what a great and popular show it is. It USED to be great and popular but ratings have been sliding the last few years and last season was #62 in the ratings! It ran its course and once they had people like Anthony Anderson as a lead, you knew the writing was on the wall
i think that NBC is canceling its (no apostrophe) more cerebral shows to make room for more reality programming. The latter appeal more to those who don't know or care about the difference between "it's" and "its".
It's (with apostrophe) only a good business move. (The previous sentence should be read sarcastically.)
Why NBC? Why?
it's so awesome that people are still correcting john. Keep going people!!!!!!!!!!!
I believe it is it's - short for It is official.
This is why more and more people are watching cable and not the major networks. The BUG 3 have very little to offer.
good. very good. the show sucked with everything.
it was always the same plot, same situations, etc.
I'm quite glad that this show has finally come to an end.
I am so sorry to hear that Law and ORder, the originial, gas been cancelled. It was a terrific, though provoding program. I will really miss it!!!Hope TNT picks up the reruns and USA brings the show back!!!!
I don't know why anyone is surprised by this. We're talking about the same network that canceled Star Trek and we all know how much of a flop that show and franchise turned out to be. The execs at NBC are so concerned with the now that they can't focus on anything else. Lets face it, right now NBC is in a world of trouble. I spend most of my viewing hours on CBS and FOX. The brilliant execs just cut my two hours a week down to one, so they're not helping themselves in my house.
Jack McCoy as well as Lieutenant Van Buren have been a fixture in so many household for so many years . Those two people alone should be in the TV hall of Fame. At least there are reruns and I enjoy watching them everynight on a TV station that is not a major network. Maybe FOX could pick up the series at least TV would have a JACK on air.
....only one thing to say – you can't fix stupid
one less reason to watch nbc.
maybe they are making room for leno.
oh rights that last years fiasco.
the person who should be canned is the head of nbc
another lame "realityz' show taking its spot.
OMG!! Not Happy at all!! Why NBC? Why?
Wow, another good show bites the dust. I'll tell you there is very little good about canceling this program. It was engaging, entertaining and thought provoking. I guess mindless entertainment is all NBC wants now, other than SVU and the new law and order spinoff. I would like to know, however, why this decision was made.
RE: It's last show, not too be overly grammatically picky but yes this is incorrect as it's is a contraction of IT IS!!
BTW so sorry to hear of L&O leaving!! Great show, great actors esp. Sam Waterston and Jeremy Sisto and the late Jerry Orbach..
I'll miss Law and Order, do you suppose the nitwits at NBC will replace this great show for another reality show. They decide to keep the Marriage Ref and axe a Law and Order. Smooth move
Well folks, it's official–the NBC idiots ARE real!! This network USED to be great–until they started changing programming. Remember that saying 'if it ain't broke...'??
That's the worse news possible. NBC EXECS must be more short sighted than the American car industry. Excellent talent, long history, intriguing story lines, intellectual scripts – what's not to love. Let's keep L&O and cancel the high paid idiots that made this decision!
It's = it is
Its = possession for the it
What about its'....can that be used? Is Its' the same as just "Its" ?
"It's Official: Law and Order is Done"
"It is Official: Law and Order is Done"
This has NOTHING to do with possessive case. It is over the use of
I love regular L & O and the Jeff Goldblum version, the other two are okay, but the scripts are all about the same and it feels like you're watching the same show over and over and over, nothing new to the plots or character. The biggest and most exciting change this year was when the two detectives shaved off their beards....and that's sad....they should study "24" to find out how to get some real excitement and interest going. But keep L & O and Goldblum the way they are.
Jerry Orbach left the show then died several months later. He was to star in L&O trial by Jury but died after filming 2 eps.
RE: "Come on, CNN... It should be "ITS last episode", not "it's"."
I agree, this is ridiculous. Elementary grammar mistake. The first word of the headline as well. I've taken journalism classes before and the use of "it's" and "its" was definitely discussed. Guess CNN isn't hiring the best and brightest. This must have to pass by an editor's desk. Lazy bums.
Hardly seems fair to give the show such short notice. A series that has run this long deserves to have a final story arc worthy of its success. I'm very disappointed in NBC.
Way to go losers at NBC...I have grown up with show since it started. It will be sadly missed by many. Not only did you give "Las Vegas" the ax now you give one of the longest running shows the ax. These exc. must be real smart...
checkyourself you are a moron, it's = "it is" and its= ownership, both were used correctly....
sad to see the show go though
Any Connection to Fox'es move to end 24 on the same date (May 24) ...?
There is something else be juggled in the background i bet.
Grammar kids, stick to the issues, will ya
As long as SVU is not going anywhere, fine w/ me. SVU is the best show on tv by far!!
Jerry Orbach 1955–2004
Law & Order (cast member from 1992–2004)
like i said when Jerry left i lost interest
How many times do people have to explain that John was wrong? I'm sure he knows by now.
I've had it. NBC and I are over.
I is wit yu.
First ER then L&O...There's nothing left but absurd "reality" shows...Dateline and 48 hours are the only worthy shows left
I will miss this wonderful show. How sad.
Brikellprincess or whatever your name is, I'm sorry if some of us "simpletons" aren't into watching stupid shows that do nothing but cause drama and headaches like Jersey Shore or 16 and Pregnant like you do...if TV consisted of nothing but those shows we would all have air in our heads, like you do, instead of brains. I'm also sorry that the clues Law and Order and those medical dramas provide us to solve the mystery are too complicated for you to understand...maybe if the trash you watch now wasn't killing off your brain cells you would have enough common sense to be able to solve the mysteries!
I for one will be sad to see the show end it was thought provoking, and I could still feel Jerry there and his comments would come to mind.
The problem is that the show is been on too long - too hard to come up with new, fresh stories.
I have not watched in a long time. As others have said, it has not been the same since Jerry Orbach died.
Im tempted too make many errors so the peeple who have far too much time correcting grammer can find a way too awkupy themselfs...
youd think after 50 peeple saying the same thing agin and agin theyd under stand that maybe John get's it?
Then again, damned unlikely...ah, the joy of feeling superior to others...and the joy of shoving it in a persons face...or is that person's...or the face of a person?
Two words to describe the NBC management:
"Low" and "Odor."
Actually, checkyourself, the contraction of it is (it's) does have an apostrophe.
"a Los Angeles based version of "Law & Order," and "Law & Order: SVU" is moving forward."
I know it's not on NBC but is LO: CI going to keep going?
One of the best shows on TV. Minute to Win it? Get real. This LOLA going to propably have a bunch of kids on it & they'll make the show too "slick". Don't mess with what works. Another reason NOT to watch NBC now.
Of COURSE it had to go! Don't all of you realize they had to make room for that fantastic new show, "Surviving the Amazing Race to be the Biggest Loser in the Million Dollar American Dancing Idol Contest"??
May 14th, 2010 1:46 pm ET
Sorry, you are wrong (CNN corrected"
*It's* is a contraction for "it is"
*Its* is the possessive case and the correct usage.
Just ask former President Clinton about it's. It all depons on what is is.
When a show puts forth political messages, as Law and Order did,
its bound to loose about half of its audience - in either direction.
I stopped watching Law and Order when it became political, and
I'm sure others did, too.
it started going downhill when it became a mouthpiece for left-wing causes. most people aren't that far left, so they lost viewers – just like every other nbc show. good riddance!
I am extremely sad to see the ending of the original Law&Order. From the beginning I've been a huge fan. I'll miss the show terribly. In the article I didn't see any mention of Law&Order Criminal Intent. What's worse than seeing the original Law&Order leave is Law&Order Criminal Intent staying – which I hope is not the case. Jeff Goldbloom, although a very talented actor, is certainly no Vincent D'Onofrio which he tries to the point of ridiculousness to be. Farewell Law&Order.
LOL! I guess we have a replacement show for Law & Order.
It's called: ITS (Investigative "Typo" Squad).
Here's one for you: Is it "canceled" or "cancelled?"
When Dick Wolf started putting his ideological view/opinions in the weekly shows, that lost me! He is far too liberal and I do NOT agree with him. His opinions are, of course, his and doesn't have to agree with mine but they don't belong on a TV show!
All shows wear their welcome out eventually. Cancel while it's still on top so it will be remembered as one of the best. Please don't replace with a "reality" show! They aren't real.
Wow, am I the only person who DIDN'T watch this show, and only wishes I never had to see the black screen and hear the "doink doink" anymore?? It feels like it's been on for 100 years. I sat through maybe one whole episode, and could not see why this show was on the air for as long as it was. I can't believe people are even the slightest bit upset about this. Does this mean they will be canceling its 50 million spinoffs like SVU as well?? Don't worry L&Oers...there are enough episodes of this show to last the rest of your lives in syndication.
I can't believe the travesty of television today!!! First, I get the news that "24" is going of the air. But atleast Fox have the right frame of mind to put out a movie that should be nothing less then STELLAR. Now, NBC has gone and lost what's left of their civil minds and gotten rid of LAO. I can think of quite a few NBC shows the should certainly get the can...starting with MERCY!
That leaves pretty much nothing to watch on NBC. GOODBYE NBC, removing you from my channel listing!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I agree with upstate N.Y. Television has definitely gone downhill over the years. Law & Order is one of the very few programs worth watching. I'm very disappointed!! Most recently the decision to let go Vince Denofrio & Kathy Erbe on Law & Order Criminal Intent and now this! What are the networks thinking. Thank goodnes for Netflix!!
This is disgusting. Law & Order was the BEST show in may opinion the only one I watched from NBC.I still watch the reruns on other channels of L&O. What are they thinking? They will probably add another junk reality show. Thank god there are movies to rent. NBC certainly do not know what they are doing!!!
I like that TNT pickup comment. Maybe get a movement going because I'm gonna miss this one. NBC execs are officially nuts – this has been a pretty class show for the most part. Over the years, I've adjusted to cast tweaks and departures and now find myself looking forward to watching Linus dig himself out of all his self-made holes. He's such a wonderful twit and I'm going to miss him. And it's not like there's a lack of headlines for ideas – some pretty crazy stuff is going on. Seriously sorry to see this one go.
Wow, Law and Order has been my saving grace for "regular" tv. If it had not been for Law and Order or X-Files, I probably wouldn't have bothered watching non-cable tv the last 20 years. I agree with Renee who said, "I used to love Law and Order, but after the advent of great cable shows like Dexter, Deadwood, True Blood, Big Love, Oz, Nurse Jackie, etc., these shows just become inane." I would just add The Wire and The Sopranos to that list. All I can say is if they cut SVU, I'll officially be done with "regular" tv.
jerryj orbach was on "trial by jury" and not law and order when he died.
I thought it had been cancelled years ago.
Fade to black.
Angie Harmon was the only reason I ever watched the show. John you're an idiot keep your inner-city grammar lessons to yourself. Trying to correct people when you have no idea what you're talking about. Throw your keyboard away so you don't set yourself up to get put on blast anymore.
Thanks for nothing Comcast
I know... grammAr.
Who is running NBC these days? Can these people be any more moronic? Canning L&O in favor of some idiotic reality show just shows that the stupidity begins at the top (of NBC) and is being hardily embraced by the general public.
Hey, you idiots arguing about the it's vs. its......KNOCK IT OFF!!!! WHO CARES?!?!?!
Between the cancellation of the show...and the GRAMMER LESSON... well... ITS driving me crazy!
Another clarification on why this is, John...
Possesive forms of proper names like "John" or "Kate" have apostrophes, i.e. "John's" and "Kate's". However, "its" goes right along with other possesive pronouns like "his" and "hers". No apostrophe.
I'll lay off the subject of correcting someone's correct grammar incorrectly. I think you've had enough:) Strangely, "someone's" is also a possesive pronoun but has an apostrophe. I give up:) English is confusing.
And I see that CNN made the change. Hooray for grammar nazis!
That is the crowining blow! Good Bye NBC, even the evening news!
It would have lived if they let NBC put Jay Leno in the starring role. ;-)
Love the Law & order series. Not sure why they are canceling it.
GUNSMOKE was the longest running drama on CBS. (20 years), L&O has had a great run and maybe Dick Wolf wants it to go out while it still on top, like so many other great TV programming: M*A*S*H, Mary Tyler Moore, Frasier, etc. Buy your boxed sets now and watch them on DVD. Tacky reality shows suck like "Biggest Loser," Bachelorette," "Wife Swap," cheap to produce and mindless. I stopped watching standard Network TV fair years ago and now when I have time I only watch shows on cable like National Geographic, Discovery, TLC, Animal Planet, BIOGRAPHY – shows where you can learn something educational and be informed, although they have their crap too, like "Jon&Kate Make 8" – trash! "19 & Counting", Oh come on sorry, but the Mom is a human puppy mill. The Duggars need to be spayed and neutered respectively. What, are they starting their own Country? Just remember the good times with L&O and maybe A&E will pick up the re-runs.
This sucks I've seen every episode like 20 times and I still love watching them. Why Why it's been on of my favorite shows.
Lenny is rolling over in his grave.
Actually, Rigs, Jerry Orbach left to work on another L&O show, and was replaced by Dennis Farina. When he passed that other L&O went away pretty quickly. It did hurt L&O a lot when he left, but it is still a pretty good show. Shame to see it end.
What a great series..some of the best entertainment TV has ever provided
Let's face it, all good things must come to an end. The earliest episodes were the best by far. All of the best actors that were on it are long gone ( in one way or another ). There will always be the reruns. Time to close things down.
Law & Order is the most intelligent show ever...it helped me escape from reality T.V., which requires no intelligence to watch...sad!
This makes me sad. The current cast is the best since Jerry Orbach. NBC messed it up by moving it all around this season.
BAD MOVE....ABSOLUTLY A BAD MOVE!!!!! I love Law and Order and I just love Jack McCoy!! I guess I'll start following CSI: Miami...GO H!!! I really don't think this Law and Order: LA will have the following that the original show has had. Enough already!!!
Bummer....I started watching reruns on TNT/USA network, then got hooked on SVU, followed by the "original". Such a great show, with very compelling characters. Even though DA's, Detectives have changed over the years, the actors were very strong, and you grew to like the new guys soon enough. Very disappointing, especially after they fired all of the best actors on L&O, Criminal Intent. I hear they planned to have the DA (de la Garza) end the season leaving a bar with someone...a one night stand...and that she comes back next season pregnant...she is in real life. As she was single and unattached, it would have made for a very interesting story line, especially if she had gone off with Linus Roche's character...another good one bites the dust. I'll enjoy the last 3 episodes...
checkyourself, check again.. There was no apostrophe. "Its" was spelled correctly
Time to put a great run to bed. For the record, Leno didn't screw up the 10:00 spot, NBC Hiearchy did and they still have their jobs. go figure!
One more season!! break a record!
this is so sad...
I'm sure they are cancelling it to make room for the Obama pep rally.
N – New
B – Barrak
C – Channel
Actually, "its" is correct.... :) It's means "it is".
THIS IS THE MOST RIDICULOUS MOVE NBC HAS MADE, BESIDES BRINGING BACK JAY LENO. WHAT MORON DECIDED TO CANCEL THE MOST SUCCESSFUL TY SHOW IN HISTORY. THE OTHER CRAP SHOWN ON TV SHOULD HAVE BEEN CANCELLED. WHO CARES ABOUT THE SORRY REALITY SHOWS. I HOPE THAT NBC CRASHES AND BURNS. WATCHING LAW AND ORDER IS THE ONLY TIME I WATCH NBC!
Okay, people I loved Law & Order, and Jerry Orhbach was one of my favorite actors, BUT he had left the show BEFORE he died. Everything comes to an end. Rest in peace, Law & Order.
That's a darn shame that such a long running series got Cancelled. I really enjoyed watching that show even in reruns on TNT. I will watch a few episodes of Law and Order LA to see if it is any good and worth watching
Nice one, NBC. Kill the last show that had a chance of anchoring your primetime schedule after that Leno fiasco. I really thought that L&O had seriously improved this season and was making a comeback. SVU has just deteriorated to a cheap CSI knockoff, and the rest of the schedule is dime-a-dozen sitcoms and bad reality tv, even by reality tv standards. I really won't be surprised if we start to see the old networks fold in the next few years. NBC will the first.
Checkyourself is correct. The word "IT'S" is only used as a conjunction in place of IT IS. This is a very common mistake; it drives me crazy when I see it. The word " ITS" used as showing possession is correct. The word "IT'S to show possession is incorrect.
The spelling is correct: "Its last episode"
Too bad the series is ending. Great show!
NBC canned the show Monarch. Now that was a really good show.
Actually, "It's" is correct, as in: It is over.
In the Criminal Justice System, the people are represented by two separate, yet equally important group. The Police who investigate the crime and the District Attorneys who prosecute the offenders. These are their stories. *DUN-DUN*
Wow, one of the last truly good, quality shows on TV has now bit the dust.......Thanks NBC. Nothing left to watch on your network now.
Too bad about L&O. I am a big fan of all versions (L&O SVU, L&O CI). What is NBC thinking? The only reason I tune into that station is for L&O – there is nothing else on it that is any good. I love the new L&O CI on USA with Jeff Goldblum.
I wonder if another network, maybe USA will pick it up. USA picked up L&O:Criminal Intent when NBC dropped it.
Are you all sure it was NBC's decision to cancel the show. Maybe Dick Wolf and his crew decided not to write any more episodes. Choosing to concentrate on LOLA and ..SVU instead.
This is terrible news! I love the format of this show – there's nothing else like it.
now if NBC cancells L&O SUV i NEVER have to watch the networ again-reality & talent shows SUCK
We should put NBC execs on FAIL BLOG!!!
I was upset when JAG was cancelled but found that I liked NCIS much more. I am hoping that LOLA will be a case of the same; a fresh take on an old favorite. California versus NY state law could be very intriguing – expect high profile Hollywood style cases, etc. Looking forward to seeing what they come up with. To those that bash NBC – mostly true, but I still love Thursday nights for Community, Parks & Recreation, the Office and 30 Rock.
It's SO FUNNY how many people want to correct John for his error of grammar.
But they never think to check to see that there are already a bazillion posts telling John the same thing.
John messed up. WE GET IT! GET OVER IT PEOPLE!
Do something productive with your lives.
What's with the grammar lesson?? One of the best shows on television is going!!! Who cares about it's, its, or whatever!!!
It appears thatNBC is more interested in marketing and demographics than in producing quality television drama, and to a large degree, I get this. However, losing a fine show such as Law and Order is going to be hard to take, especially when the replacement is probably going to be another reality show. Network television offers so little anymore.....I think I'm goping to renew my library card.
L&O is canceled because the people that watch it aren't 12 and they can put yet another stupid reality program on with less cost!! Thank God for Netflix....
Law & Order is one of the most cerebral dramas on network TV.
So, that's right NBC, go ahead and cancel it!
Personally, I will be watching better-choices cable tv networks, as I get more and more disgruntled with commercial TV .
I may be aging myself here, but who else remembers when primetime programs had *ONE* commercial break ,mid way through, that lasted two minutes!!! With the three minutes in between shows for additional sponsors; time to go to the kitchen for a snack, i.e.
Now during the commercial breaks you can make a run to 7-Eleven for snacks and get back before the show comes back on!
Pimping ain't easy y'all!
Um John? "It's" is a possessive? As in, "belonging to it"?
Im an English teacher. And no, it most certainly isn't.
Clearly, Johnny can't read.
checkyourself: get your eyes examined.
Are the executives of NBC are the same executives for Looney Tunes? They got to be.
DUN – DUN!!
If they hear enough from viewers, maybe they'll change their minds.
One more blow to the thinking person's TV viewing. Even the reruns are preferable to (yet) another moronic "reality" show. Makes me think of Bruce Springsteen's "57 Channels and Nothing On."
I used to love Law and Order, but after the advent of great cable shows like Dexter, Deadwood, True Blood, Big Love, Oz, Nurse Jackie, etc., these shows just become inane. Ridiculous (and in the last few years, overtly political) premises that aren't even original – no similarity to actual cases my behind. I still watch, but my husband and I were just commenting the other night that we were about to give it up because the material is just too light.
CSI is going down the same road, except it's just getting absolutely RIDICULOUS with its story lines.
(See how I used "its" there – LOL!)
Great – this stinks – the only good show that was left on primetime (after Lost is done in a couple of weeks) – what are they making room for? more reality shows – don't have more than enough of those do we????
That sucks. They cancel all the good shows. They owe it to the fans to at least give a reason.
The Law & Order show has been one of the most entertaining and intelligent shows. We should boycott the other spinoffs until NBC comes to its senses.
Now we'll probably get stuck with another stupid replacement like 30 Rock, a vampire show or some idiot reality show like Biggest Loser. The networks are looking to go cheap, plain and simple. It's not about ratings. It's about payroll.
Please don't cancel this jewel of a show. I love most of the characters of the past and present (especially Angie Harmon, Jerry Orbach, and Jesse Martin). This is one of the few decent shows on TV, and of course they have to cancel it, just like CBS did with Flashpoint last year. UGH, when will the networks learn that not only 18-35 year olds watch TV!!!????
Oh boy! That will leave room for NBC to place two more moronic sitcoms.
I saw this day coming ever since they brought in Anthony Anderson. That guy's acting is comparable to Keanu and Daniel Radcliffe's = Atrocious!
It seems now days all the good shows are going by the wayside and they are being replaced with mind numbing reality shows that require no brains to veg out in front of and not much money to make.
It has gotten so bad that I seldom watch tv any more. This is one of the few programs I do still watch and now they are getting rid of it.
I guess I won't have much left worth watching for much longer if this pace keeps up.
Thank you NBC for stopping me from becoming a satisfied tv watcher.
To BrickellPrincess...what exactly are you watching, because obviously I'm missing something good.
"Law and Order" is my absolute favorite show. Though the stars have changed over time, it's the writing that makes the show stand out. SVU is great, but the original is still the best – I hope TNT picks it up and continues it. NBC can now count me as one less viewer of the 11:00 news.
To John: No, it was not correct. "It's" is a contraction of "it is" or "it has". "Its" is a possessive case pronoun meaning "of it" or "belonging to it".
LOLA. I smell another "Trial By Jury".
Finally!!!! One less stupid cop/law TV show. Now if we could do away with all the medical dramas television would be worth watching.
But I doubt that we ever will since these types of shows make the simpletons that watch them feel intelligent. You think you're so clever sitting there as the scripted TV show feeds you clues and you "solve" them right along with the characters. Or you feel empowered watching the lawyers defend the victim on yet another lame scripted law show. Of you feel like a hero watching that medical drama–you feel the pain, the anguish, the satisfaction of going through the patients mysteriously–yet scripted–medical drama. You extend your hand on your couch when the "surgeon" asks for that surgical clamp to stop the bleeding...and blah blah blah TV is ruined for the rest of us.
I agree with Upstate, NY
Get rid of all the reality shows
The sitcoms from years ago were genuine
As long as they don't mess with SVU, I'm good!
I love that the all-caps diatribe against NBC execs has turned into a grammar lesson. Just goes to show there definitely is an audience for NBC after all. No way people who respond with grammar correction don't watch 30 Rock... :) Go (fellow) dorks!
This is horrible ... I have to put up with this crap-network moving the best shows to TNT, then it was Leno's bad show, now this. Are they trying to antagonize everyone who watches them? This show's formula worked ... every week, it worked! They deserve to lose it. Hopefully another network will see the value and pick it up.
Law and order is a great show. I am saddedend it has been cancelled. I watch it several times a week.
After Angie Harmon left, then Jerry Orbach left us all, it was not the same for me. It will live on in syndcation forever.
To John re checkyourself:
No, it's its and checkyourself is correct. The possessive form of "it" does not have an apostrophe. The contraction form of "it is" does have an apostrophe.
Its = possessive
It's = contraction
The rule is hard enough for people to remember without CNN screwing it up, too.
An enormously stupid decision on the part of NBC. I don't care about the SUV and CI spinoffs because they just don't have the appeal or interest for me like the original series. It was a tough blow when we lost Jerry Orbach. The original L&O is the only NBC program that I watch and one of the very few regular programs that I watch at all. For me, it means that they do not want me as a viewer. No problem NBC, I'll be glad to part company with you. It wouldn't surprise me at all to see the show picked up by another network; possibly one of the cable-only networks. That would be fine with me. Then I could erase the NBC affiliate channel from my channel selections. (Which I fully intend to do)
I can't believe this show is on. It 'Jumped the Shark' years ago. I guess the blue hairs and Grammar Nazis kept it alive so long.
To John: You're incorrect. Possessive case is "its." "It's" means "it is."
"It's" is a contraction for "it is". "Its" is the possessive pronoun. Get it?
The possessive form of that word is "its", no apostophe. "It's" is the conjunction of "it" and "is", which would not be correct here. Seriously, if you're going to try to correct somebody please try to be correct yourself.
The cast on right now is excellent and didn't deserve the treatment they received this past season to make room for the crapfest that was the Jay Leno Show. Thanks NBC for shooting yourself in the foot yet again.
I wish the networks would cancel the "reality" shows like Survivor, Biggest Loser, Wife Swap, Amazing Race, Bachelor, Bachelorette,...etc Pathetic people out for their 15 min of fame.
Hm, seems like they fixed 'Its', but I think checkyourself was correct. Its is the correct usage here. It's is the contraction for it is. Its is actually the possive.
Its last episode – would be the correct usage. Not it's (or it is) last episode....
Law and Order
Law & Order is the best show on TV. Good stories that challenge your view of the law and justice. I am done with watching TV... after Lost and Law & Order there's nothing interesting to watch
Too bad. It is the only version of L&O that still holds any interest for me to keep watching!
Not to worry people ... I'm sure NBC will replace the best show EVER with some riveting reality TV. *groans*
Hey TNT, here's your chance to swoop in and do what you did for SouthLAnd. Show that the cable networks are more relevant these days than the bloated "major networks" who don't listen to their audiences desires.
There has never, never been a successful tv show of any type set in LA (maybe Adam 12). It is uninteresting to anyone except people living in LA. Even the law and order episode that had a major part in LA was durable only because McCoy went there and reamed out the judge. Land and Order is about to jump the shark.
"checkyourself" is correct. The general rule is that an apostrophe is used to indicate possession, but this is not the case with "It." You should only use "It's" when you mean "It is" not when you mean possession.
Okay, I was wrong. They haven't fixed it. I wasn't, however, wrong about the usage of "It's" and "Its".
actually "its" is correct as the apostrophe is only used with that word to indicate a contraction of "it is". The correct possessive form is quite certainly "its" as in "grammar has lost its hold on people"
this is a very common confusion and of course the apostrophe is used elsewhere to indicate possession but not in the case of "its".
it's =it is
John, if you're going to be a Grammar Nazi, at least know what you're talking about.
"It's" is a contraction of "it is".
"Its" is the possesive form of "it". It's an exception to the rule of possesives.
CNN's usage is wrong. Checkyourself is right.
John, with all due respect, you are wrong.
It's is a contraction meaning "it is"
The possessive form (belonging to IT) is actually "its."
Law Order had a long and impressive run. Truth be known, it probably should have been cancelled after the death of Jerry Orhback. But ...What a great series! 20 seasons......truely impressive.
Does anyone in NBC's executive offices have a brain?
Actually, checkyourself was correct, and CNN has since corrected the error. "It's" is a contraction of "It" and "is". "Its" is the possessive form of "It"...
Horrible news! It is still one of the most entertaining shows on TV.
Looks like money overtakes viewers choice. I've enjoyed this show and continue to enjoy it. I won't have much to watch when this goes off air.
It a terrible shame!!! Who made this decision is really a j???
You ought to get a dictionary. It's is the contraction of It is. Its is posessive. Get it?
Very upsetting. I have been a fan since day one.
No!!!!!!! I love Law and Order!!! Well, at least SVU didn't get cancelled. I doubt if LOLA is as good as the original, but hopefully I'm wrong!
I agree with a previous post. It was hard getting back after Jay Leno messed up the 10pm slot. I love the show and all the franchises. I hope that NBC will learn to truly negotiate as they will lose alot if the original is cancelled.
For me this show was over when Jerry Orbach passed away...
I HOPE THAT NEW SHOW IN LA BLOWS UP IN THEIR FACE AND THEY HAVE TO CANCEL IT TWO EPISODES IN, THAT'S WHAT THE NBC EXECS DESERVE.
That's too bad. That's one of my favorite shows.
NBC should let it air ONE episode in the new season, just so it can break the record!
THIS JUST GOES TO SHOW THAT THE EXECUTIVES RUNNING NBC ARE A BUNCH OF MORONS. THEY CANCEL THEIR BEST DRAMA??????
WHY DON'T THEY JUST GO AHEAD AND CLOSE DOWN THE NETWORK????
I MEAN, WHAT ELSE DO THEY HAVE IN THEIR PROGRAMMING THAT'S WORTH A DAMN?
Yeah, def screwed by NBC. The show only had TWO DECADES to gain an audience!
They lost me when the shows started having political overtones.
This is horrible news! If the series was so successful, then why are you canceling it? It was one of the more intelligent programs out there. Or is that why you canned it?
Nooooo! This accouncement is too soon..does that mean the last ep is gonna suck since we just found out about this?
Why would they cancel the best TV show today? I no longer have any fix for my courtroom drama cravings. *sigh*
when Jerry Orbach passed away i lost interest in this show
Wow, that is too bad. Another casualty of the Leno/Conan fiasco?
Another TV franchise screwed by NBC... WAY TO GO (morons)!
