There have been reports flying left and right that NBC will not bestow Dick Wolf the honor of making the original "Law & Order" the longest-running television drama ever.
According to DeadlineHollywood.com, the network has reneged on an agreement to bring the show back for a 21st season. NBC told CNN that they're "not able to comment right now" on the rumors, but some NBC insiders reportedly told NYMag's Vulture that the impasse isn't the result of one of their infamous scheduling snafus.
It appears that the issue may be Dick Wolf and his reluctance to adhere to NBC's request to trim the budget and knock the season back to only 6 to 10 episodes.
But even if "Law & Order" is killed off that doesn't mean the entire franchise is dead. "Law & Order SVU" as well as "Law & Order: Criminal Intent" are still hanging on, and NBC has been considering yet another spinoff of the iconic show slated for the fall, this time set in Los Angeles.
Excellent site. Lots of helpful information here. I'm sending it to several friends ans additionally sharing in delicious. And certainly, thank you in your effort!
Thanks author for this online. I certainly preferred every bit of it.
Wow, the U.S. race obsession continues. Perhaps the criminals in the storylines are "disproportionally" white. But would the show be very interesting if it portrayed the average street crime, serial rapist or gang kililng? I hardly think so. Any dramatized crime show is going to seek to present compelling plotlines, so logically the show concerns itself with complex cases and motives in which the financial and social stakes are high, and these kinds of cases not surprisingly often involve people of considerable wealth and social standing. To recognize that those people are often white hardly reflects some nefarious liberal agenda.
I am sick of the networks cancelling all the good shows. Law and Order is the better show of all of them. I guess it isn't gross or perverted enough for the network execs. They leave on all the shows that are out right stupid. And it seems the execs cant come up with an original thought that they have to come up with Law and Order LA. Maybe they should get out of the fog they are in and put things right.
Good riddance. The show had become unwatchable in the 2000's. Liberal bias is one thing, cheerleading for a liberal agenda is quite another, and don't get me started on the lies. SVU will be next.
I know USA comes close, but there ought to be a Law & Order Channel. Dick Wolfe should think about that.
Actually, the longest-running drama on television ever is 'Guiding Light'. The show premiered on NBC radio in 1937 and switched to CBS Radio in 1946. In 1952, CBS brought it to television until it's cancellation in 2009. 'Guiding Light' is also the longest-running broadcasting program ever. The reporter might want to go back and do their research more properly...
Why cancel the best, when they should really cancel the offspring? The offspring can't hold a candle to the original. Poor thinking NBC.
Why keep it on twenty years if you weren't planing on breaking the record?
one of my all time favorites. quite a talented ensemble. keep it going
Another example of how networks could not give a rat's ass as to what viewers thing of a show! As great as a show as it has been, there were fewer and fewer episodes, and MORE re-runs, and the show was starting later and later in each season! I don't want to see it end, but I think its out of ideas too!
DA's come and go; Detectives come and go...and still L&O goes on...sure there are some off-kilter episodes but how could there not be in all the years this show has been on...I really do hate to see this show go off the air...lots more story lines to cover for all concerned; would be nice to see a "wrap up" show, maybe even a 2 hour movie...Llike others here I've watched this since the beginning...watch the re-runs...even know the dialogue from some! excellent, thought-provoking TV...NBC really has made some dumb, stupid, ignorant decisions lately...if I did that on a job I'd be fired! think if we all write to NBC they'd listen and keep it on for at least one more season or, as I said above, have a "wrap up" program? as for SVU, well I think they've done what's called "jump the shark" by putting Sharon Stone on the show...a desperation move for this once excellent program...and L&O: CI on USA is good; I was prepared to not like it with Goren and Eames off the program but...all new characters are excellent and it's worth watching...I will have L&O withdrawal if it does go off the air : – (
Cutting back to 6-10 episodes is an insult to Dick Wolfe. I can see why he is reluctant to continue with the show, The TV seasons are short enough. Way to many reruns all year. Keep Law and Order for the entire season!!

BTW they can keep the other "law and orders type shows" Not interesting at all.
I have loved Law and Order for years and years. I became so upset about as they switched the show from one time to another. You could never plan on when it would be on and I sort of guessed the network had lost interest. People like to watch their favorite shows, they plan time to watch or tape. You couldn't do that in the last few years. Friday, then Monday .. then suddenly on some other night. Guess wherever they needed a filler. Really sad.
I find the comment concerning the "leftish trend" quite puzzling. Any police show you watch is rife with a "rightish trend" – GUNS. The right wing, lead by the Silver Gopher, Glen Beck, never seems to be offended by this "rightish trend" on television or in our communities.
Only Silly Joe would consider "Dr. Who" a drama. I'll miss Law & Order but will survive.
I wonder if NBC is smart enough to have someone out there mining the data on stories like this. It's obvious to me that they are going to stay a 3rd place network when they are cancelling their best shows (or threatening to) like Chuck, Life, Law & Order, Heroes, etc. Maybe the production for The Biggest Loser is just that much cheaper and they are trying to go in that direction? Not that the Biggest Loser isn't good, but I ain't feeling like The Marriage Ref is must-see-tv. If that's all they have to offer, I'm done with them altogether. FX makes quality shows, and SyFy and Netflix will more than provide me with what I need. Someone should point out the DVD revenues of Heroes are making some shows jealous. But what do I know? I've only been watching tv my entire life. I know a stinker when I smell one, and NBC needs a diaper change.
Why in heaven's name did they cancel the best one? I'm so tired of Benson & Stabler's constant personal drams, - the original is the best, – get rid of the rest. Their cast and stories are SO superior.
Personally I won't watch any more after the final May 24th of the original L & O. The rest will be toast.
NBC is planning two additinal spin-offs for L&O: 1) a sit-com in which grizzled District Attorney inherits an historical manor home when his beloved great Aunt Mildred passes away. The catch? The house is haunted by his zany great Uncle Chester. Hijinks ensue. 2) Law and Order: The Animated Years.
Please don't take Law and Order off the air. This program
is one of the very few programs that I watch on NBC. NBC is
lacking in good programs to watch. I especially like the Law and
Sure. How about a new series called "Law and Border"?
NBC sees it is suffering in the ratings. So, what is their solution? To cancel the few shows that viewers are still watching.
Then, they scratch their heads, baffled that their ratings have gone from bad to worse. Their new solution, more "reality" shows.
I bet their new L&O spin off will be a prime-time version of the People's Court staring dare old Judy!!
Don't cancel L&O......the original is the best of the three and I watch all of them. When Lt Van Buren became 'sick' I kinda felt the end coming.......... you can cancel SVU and bring Richard Belzer & Ice-T to the original show; I'm sick of Meloni & Hargitay(after they held out for more cash last summer they turned me off... they were getting greedy like the industries the US bailed out!).............. Only reality shows on TV now and they all suck(Biggest Loser is ok) the rest are stoooopid! Don't do it NBC................ Wolf......... whomever is making the decisions, don't do it..... and by the way..... politics and black and latino criminals have long been in the episodes......... whackos are in all persuasions!
I'm personally SICK of "Cop" shows that heroise them.
In RL they let criminals who might fight back run free for the most part while going out of their way to do a "Fine" job of "Justice by Points" on people who obey the laws. They'll set up a "Safety Check" and stop every vehicle for hours, making lots of people late for work, hoping they can find someone who can't pay auto insurance or has a broken tail light, but they time these things for when "Career Criminals" are almost always asleep in bed, for fear one will just "Shoot and run".
Shows like this are propaganda to get people to talk to the police.
In RL, they are very likely to try to pin a crime on an innocent person. The innocent person likely isn't thinking about being in trouble with the law, so they don't know to "I invoke my 5th. I will not talk to you. I want a lawyer. I want a lawyer."
Unlike how they portray this in cop shows, shutting up and demanding a lawyer even if you have to sit for hours as they scream at you and threaten all sorts of things from "Throwing the book at you" to "killing you" is actually the best way. You can NOT be convicted for what you do not/refuse to say, but you CAN be convicted for what you do say. They are more likely to try to frame an innocent person for it's easy "Points" while a "Real Criminal" has lawyers and just might get revenge on them. Lots of people, proven to be innocent after decades in jail, or even from death row made the mistake of "Talking to the police" trying to help them solve a crime. Their words were twisted against them by the fuzz who didn't even try to find the real criminals, they just wanted someone to convict for "Justice by Points" and an innocent person made a better target. It used to be they mainly did it to blacks, but now white people are good targets too since they can't claim 'profiling' and the decaying economy makes them less able to afford good attorneys.
IMO, it's so bad now they'd perhaps deliberately ignore a visibly crazy lunatic holding an axe walking towards a residential house while they continue to speedup behind people and tail them for blocks for an excuse to write tickets. They don't get any "Points" for preventing a crime, so long as the lunatic isn't threatening people openly, there's nothing to gain. But, when they see he's come out of the house covered in blood, then it's "Mega Points" to catch him.
Why not have some of the actors make guest appearances on each other's show. I would love to see Elliott and Olivia (SVU) go on L&O or L&O: CI and vice versa.
Tazz602 and John apparently didn't read the article very closely. It said "longest-running television drama". Dr. Who is a science-fiction show (not a drama), and the Simpsons... that goes without saying. I wish people would actually read the article and/or know what they are talking about before commenting. That said, I agree with the vast majority of posters here in that cancelling the show would be a huge mistake for NBC.
It got a whole lot better when they FINALLY had the two detectives shave like the real cops. BUT in the beginning this show must have had different writers because everything was more real especially the Court room segment. Now the D.A.'s always act like the boss and do not follow court room procedure at all the give speeches. SO yea unless they get some good writers back it is history.
I don't think I've ever seen so many comments.
It always comes down to money. After dumping Jay Leno at 10, NBC should have returned the various programs to their days at 10 p.m. Slam dunk for NBC: "see, nobody is watching ..." (because they can't find it)
Only people with no life watch this crap anyway.
For the love of god, man! Don't do it! Don't cancel the ONLY show I watch on television.
One of the better shows on TV. Intelligent, relevant to the days' issues and the acting is always great.
Lose Criminal Intent, but keep the original Law and Order, idiots.
LOL @ Chris May 14th, 2010 9:39 am ET
Law & Order and Guiding Light are hardly in the same catagory.
I want entertainment, not left-wing thinking. This is why they have lost out in favorite.
its too formula – dump CSI and L&O – and bring back Homicide.
Andre Brauer and the crew in Charm City – now THAT's good TV!
That'll be a shame if they pulled the plug on this one - it's the only Law & Order I religiously watch. I love how the actors are so good at acting their roles - so realistic. NBC, PLEASE DO NOT DO THIS TO YOUR VIEWERS!!!!!
...sorry, that's "write" good stories...
Please don't take L&O off the air. There are too many dummy, wacko, crummy shows on and this is the only one I've watched since the beginning. Our entire family is " addicted" to it, old and new but we really miss Jerry. He was the greatest. We miss Vincent, ( poor soul probably got burned out and needed a break) So far don't like Jeff Goldblum, he's always been a little quirky. Circle the wagons please, make a few changes but don't take it off. My TV won't ever be on as I hate this reality crap, marriage show included. Do you really think Hollywood even has an inkling about marriage? GET REAL and who really needs their opinions anyway????
Here's a crazy idea ... quit putting money into garbage "reality" shows so the money is there for good dramas, comedies, and other various sitcoms. The good shows seem slowly declining for bad quiz shows and primetime slots given to stuff like "Celebrity Apprentice."
What is this "television" of which you speak?
Have been a fan for years. But it's clear the writers now enjoy injecting their political leanings (left) into the dialog. I DON'T CARE ABOUT THEIR POLITICAL VIEWS! They don't add to the plot. I lean strongly right, but wouldn't expect right-leaning views to make it into the plots either (unless it was 50/50 with left views). If the show stays, just right good stories! Leave the politics out!!
Please keep L&O. You can have the silly SVU. Goldbloom is brutile. I'd rather watch reruns of Lennie and Mike anyday of the week.
NO! NBC why do you do dumb things like this why would you kill one of the few good shows left ? I will say L&O is not as good as it use to be but I still have my DVR set to rec every new show....
Kill L&O and NBC for sure will stand For "Nothing But Crap!"
if your going to kill stuff get rid of all this so called reality TV junk every one knows its all scripted so calling it reality tv is false advertising....
No way Jose!
Please don't do this!!! It's bad enough that Vince is gone from C.I. but this would be total devestation!!!!! It's a great show with some super great themes.
I LOVE L & O. I HAVE BEEN WATCHING FOREVER!!!!! DON'T RUIN A GOOD THING AND PLEASE DON'T REPLACE WITH YET ANOTHER REALITY SHOW!
I have watched this show since the very beginning. In the past, there were interesting portrayals of legal issues or social problems, especially shows about characters with mental illness. Or homelessness. The minor characters provided unique vignettes of NYC life. ( I worked in NYC for a while.) The show wasn't about "crack the case," but about the process of law and order.
The show has become more liberal lately, but the main thing is that the intellectual content is way, way down. And I don't give a darn about the personal lives of the detectives or the ADA or whoever. There's a lot of sleaze now. PLUS you can't even figure out what night it's on!! Why do they think viewership is down???
Save the show, but only if you can improve the writing back to its original quality. How sad . . .
Remember when NBC was the #1 network?
It's cause of stupid decisions like this one that they'll never get to #1 again.
i apologize, make that "silly Americans"
I wouldn't be surprised at anything the network does. Several years ago they cancelled a terrific show – "Homicide: Life in the Street". A few of the characters in that show managed to survive in other shows – Richard Belzer is now in SVU. L&O is a terrific show with fictionalized accounts of true stories in the news. It's thought provoking and makes you really think about the laws in this country. Unfortunately because of the rising costs in production of network programming, it's becoming harder to justify the bottom line to the stockholders, many of whom would prefer to have more "reality" programming, which is considerably less expensive to produce, and which panders to the majority of the viewing public (regrettably the masses are becoming asses). Perhaps if viewers protested to NBC the way that CBS was bombarded after its radical and unanticipated decision to cancel "Jericho", we could get one more season out of it. Any ideas?
@ John & Tazz602: The article reads "longest running television DRAMA", not overall longest program. So John, please learn to fully read the articles before falling back on your blatant "stupid Americans" comment.
noOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! don't let it happen!
I have to admit, I much prefer SVU and CI a thousand times more than the original series. This change doesn't bother me one bit.
Slowly but surely all the good TV shows are going away. There's not a lot of real entertainment anymore. And American Idol and Survivor just aren't entertaining to me. Keep Law & Order!!!
Very stupid decision! The essence of the show is based on the fact that it gives a New York City vibe. What does LA have to offer to the series? NBC you will regret not bringing back this show!!!
All the comments towards silly...Ummm is the internet only for American's? Just like everything else, American's think they run everything. John that made the original "Silly" comment is probably not even British, just an American that likes Dr. Who.
BRING BACK NEW YORK UNDERCOVER!!!!!
Are you kidding with the "Have you seen a Latino of Black criminal?" By you pointing it out you're making a racial issue out of something that isn't. And the ones who want to get on a political wave GET OVER URSELF. It's a TV show. If you don't like it then don't watch it. Really does someone need to even point this out?
Please don't do it! The current cast is great and it is still one of my favorite shows on television.
This is an intelligent show. I love the plots and the interplay between the characters. It really makes you think.
I agree. These reality shows and the Bachelor, Survivor, etc. are just plain dumb. American Idol has run its course and the only person I like on that is Ellen. That other female judge needs to go. Celebrity Apprentice is another silly show.
Come on football season!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Don't Do It.
NBC is last in the network ratings...if they cancel this show, they're crazy and must have a death wish.
I have been a loyal fan of Law & Order since day one. I have watch all of Law & Order Sitcom. NBC is stupid to cancel a good show. What they should cancel is some of this STUPID Reality Shows.
"The original is still the best" – Law & Order shouldn't be canceled. Are you kidding me? Bad decision by them! I am so sad to read this today! NBC – please change you minds!
Nooooo. This is the best one. We NEED to keep Jack and his people!! Ditch Criminal Intent which is nothing since the best and first characters who made it good are all gone!!!
Just move the show to the USA Network
Am I the only one who doesn't remember TV without Law & Order?
Actually, Law & Order is the longest running DRAMA. The longest running show on American Television is, obviously, Sesame Street. Come on.
Everyone will be better off if you just keep these 2 little thoughts in mind:
ALL GOOD THINGS MUST COME TO AN END – OR –
NOTHING LAST FOREVER!!
Brisco was and always will be my favorite. The show has never been the same without him. It's still agood show and NBC is nuts to take it off the air, or even reduce the number of episodes. No wonder they are last in the ratings game. Perhaps the wise thing to do is leave L&O on and remove the replace the management at NBC!!!
Maybe they can replace it with The Jay Leno Show – oh wait, they already tried that – stupid NBC!
If anyone sees ANY similarities between ANY Law & Order show and Conan O'Brien, you're delusional. He's an idiot! Oh wait, he's a very rich idiot.
What will I do during the opening..."in the criminal justice system...dun,dun,dun"
I want to echo Avi:
because that's exactly what I said out loud when I saw that headline...
Please leave Law and Order on the air. Take off Law and Order Criminal Intent. It is not nearly as good and the other L&O series. Also don't mess with Law and Order SVU.
It just hasn't been the same without Jerry Orbach and Fred Thompson. But it's still the best damn thing on TV – period. They would make a huge mistake by not giving it the money and time it deserves.
My wife and I will really miss the new reruns. Did you ever try to watch Bones while you eat?
Also for the people saying the Simpson are in their 21st season that is true, but learn to read people the Simpson is not a drama, its an animated comedy. It clearly says longest running drama people come on now!
Why does NBC make so many stupid programming decisions?
NBC ... the No Brains Corporation.
Please – L&O is the best series on the TV. They have a lot of fans here in Puerto Rico.
NOOOO – The original L&O is the best! Cancel SVU – that one has gone sick anyway, the CI isn't as good. What is going on over at NBC??
Criminal Intent with D'Onofrio and Erbe was the best!!! How awful to see them go. Maybe they can come back and have a Law and Order GW (Ghost Whisperer) series with Jen L.H. She's on every night on almost every channel on cable. Mariska and cast are great on SVU, but maybe what they all need is Betty White!
I watch L&O! I 'watched' Law & Order: Criminal Intent from its first program until the let go Goran, Eams, and the Captain. Never will tune in to that show again!
Please don't cancel the show! NBC needs to understand that the show brings a sort of continuity and stability that stimulates viewers by providing interesting stories, great acting, and more. NBC should listen to those of us who enjoy the show and let it continue. What are you afraid of NBC?
I cannot believe NBC would be so stupid!!!!!!!!! Again!!!!! What they need to do is put it back on Wednesday night at 9pm where it belongs. I have always loved L&O, but this is the first time where they have had 100% where I liked all the characters at one time. For instance when they had Fred Thompson – no good, and some of the assistant district attorneys and detectives -but each of these cast members is perfect and they should get a chance to play it out for several years, although I did hear that Epathra was leaving on her own.
To the idiot that said Law & Order isn't the longest running television show ever, but Dr. Who is! And then added the "SILLY AMERICANS" at the end. Your silly because clearly Dr.Who isn't an American show! So yes it is the longest running television show ever IN AMERICA!
Ditto – NOOOOOOOO!! I was afraid that would happen. I still love L&O and would be sad to see it go. NBC come to your senses and pick it up again! No more NBC programming blunders. SVU is fine but have difficulty embracing CI.
The executives making these decisions must be far right wing Nazi's that don't want views expressed that don't jive with theirs, Glen Beck's, and that Crypt Keeper, Ann Coulter.
The new ones suck. The teams just don't do it for me. Bring back Dennis Farina. It was awesome with all the other teams up until now.
Man, that would really suck... My girlfriend does a strip tease for me to the theme song when she's feeling silly. DUN DUN!
NBC = No Brain Corporation
Law and Order is the only show I watch on that network...
"Liberal bias, huh? This is the show that launched Fred Thompson's (Republican) political career! "
Sigh. Open a history book, sometime.
I hope that NBC will not be so foolish as to kill off the original Law & Order series. I personally do not care for any of the spinoffs that they've created off of the original. I enjoyed it when Michael Moriarty was the lead prosecuting attorney and I've also always enjoyed it with Sam Waterston in that role. When they moved Sam to the role of district attorney, I really didn't care for that decision, although I understood why they felt they had to do it. Of course, I still don't agree with it. It's the only dramatic series that I watch out of the very few programs that I view on TV and the only NBC program that I watch at all. My wife knows that, at a certain time of the day, I am going to sit down and watch that program, so it's a bad idea to hit me up with honey-do chores for that small amount of time. If NBC drops it, they'll just be shooting themselves in the foot (again) as some other smart programming exec will probably quickly pick up the series.
Has become to politically liberal and preachy. I do like Sharron Stone though.
i love law & order criminal intent and SUV. they would be stupid to do such a thing. im with Angry Fan!! I'll stop watching NBC as well.
Hey Allie dont watch it then!!!! HATER!!!!
It seems that the network wants to rid themselves of intelligent well produced and shows for trash reality shows. NBC management don't know what the hell they are doing. BUT THEN PEOPLE WHO ARE IN THE BIG POSITIONS AT THE NETWORKS ARE THERE BECAUSE THEY WERE SOMEBODYS BUM BOY.
Law & Order is one of only a few really good TV shows. NBC is cutting off it's nose to spit it face if it cancels this excellent program. We watch all three Law & Orders, but really the best one is the original.
We just don't watch so much of the junk that is being put on these days. Thurs. through Sat. nights, there isn't a good program on any station. Keep up what their doing those nights & no one will watch. It will be all rented movies. NBC blew it when they moved Leno around & it sounds like they are going to do it again!! Shame, shame, shame!
Week in, week out, there is no better drama then L&O. I've seen them all and have come to enjoy Bernard and Lupo as well as Mike and Connie. They make a great teams. Over the years the producers have done a great job bringing in new characters as some moved on or passed away as Lenny did. There ability to maintain chemistry between characters/actors and feed on everyday headlines for new episodes is why they've been so successful. As long as there are new news headlines L&O can live.
I love L&O. Even the re-runs. I do not like SVU or CI, which I find boring. I would rather see those two go than L&O. That is about the only show I watch on NBC other than Brian Williams' Evening News. CBS is my favorite for prime time.
This is so sad and yet another bad decision from NBC. The cast that is on the show now is outstanding and it would be a huge shame not to keep them going. I LOVE this show, it is defnitely appointment TV and has been for 20 years.....please keep the show going.....
Ugh, every time there is an intelligent show with intelligent dialogue, it ends up getting canceled. I think of L&O as the only salvation for those of us who don't watch sitcoms. With cable gobbling up the intelligent dramas, why would NBC want to get rid of what little it has? Makes no sense.
Revamp with same cast but add 2 new characters....The young lady who plays on "Bones", not the Lead Role as a new DA and the young man who plays Morgan on Criminal Minds as a new Detective and have an attraction thing going on between them and see if that flys.
I hope not. This is my favorite show. Television will not be the same. Please don't end.
No don't cancel...I have loved the show since Episode 1. NBC go for the 21 years mark, then lets go from there.
What will Dick Wolf do now to spread his anti-conservative hate speech? Boo f#$%'N HOO!!!
Ok, I admit it, I am a law & Oder addict and I will be extremely disappointed to see this show off the air. NBC you better reconsider or I am switching your channel off for good.
As long as SVU continues, I'm good.
Say it isn't so..............
You want to save the show?
Buy stuff from the advertisers, instead of fast forwarding it on your DVR or running to eat more fries when the commercials come
Stop downloading stolen versions of it online
Tell friends who didnt see the show yet to check it out
NBC is a business not a charity, in times like these when people are busy on youtube all night and stalking people on facebook and trying to meet their match or cheat on their match online all day and then post nonsense on news sites, TV ratings are down across the board.
Networks must try new things, ironic to see people here who wouldnt know how to deliver a pizza pie, giving advice on what nbc should or shouldnt do
If you want to be on TV, we are casting now. Check out http://www.realityroad.com now for all our casting calls, get on TV and get FAMOUS!
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO from me too!
NBC does a lot of reneging doesn't it?
There has been on staple on television the last 20 years – it has been Law and Order. Whether you agree with the decisions, their comments and views, it is always smart and thought provoking. Why would a network that is struggling try to change something to successful. That could explain their position with the other networks – low, low, low!
And what about the people who count on watching this show night after night!!
oh my god no! l&o is my favorite show!!! It's been around almost as long as I've been alive...this would crush so many loyal fans – worse than Jerry's death did! nbc..you have good programming, lets not turn into cbs...all they have is csi!
First Conan, and now L&O! What are they going to do, put Leno on 2 times a night?
And yes Anne I agree, I do not know why they put Sharon Stone on SVU...
Whoever said keep L&O and get rid of SVU can just go straight to he!! SVU is by far the better of the trio (maybe equal to L&O) but far better than CI. All the detectives on CI are arrogant retards that make better comedians than detectives lol.
L&O is the only show my husband and I enjoy. Please do not take it off. We do not enjoy SVU now that they put Sharon Stone in it.
KEEP L&O ON!!!
I can only hope that this is true. This show should not have lasted as long as it did. As for a another spin off, they tried that with Law & Order: Trial by Jury and it was canned after 12 episodes.
Let the thing die and use the time for something new.
I hope so. That liberal "progressive" mouthpeice has become sooo predictable and boreing.
According to Hannity and Beck, the impending cancellation of this show is directly tied to the Obama Administration's FCC policies. As usual, it's Obama's fault.
I've watched Law and Order throughout its tenure. One thing that irks me is when the network changes the date/time of a show. You can almost guarantee it's the kiss of death. I'm wondering if NBC did the Monday move with that in the back of their heads. Enough of the damn reality TV shows guys...give us drama. If NBC cancels, guess I'll go watch re-runs of L&O on TNT!
First the Unit and now L&O....I watch all the shows and really hope that NBC or whoever is about to make this mistake gets it together....
Yay! Another cop-drama based in L.A. How original! At least TNT and FX are branching out and basing some cop shows in smaller cities.
Why is it the networks remove the intelligent shows and give us crap like "V". I'm ready to cut my cable off.
be the fact that that television is 90% advertizemant has somthing to do with apathy.
Forget L&O...the real travesty is that "Laverne & Shirley" has not made a comeback.
L&O lost a lot of its luster after they broke up the team of Briscoe and Green (arguably the best duo on the show…RIP Jerry Orbach aka Lenny Briscoe). My top 10 favorite episodes feature the two of them. The show has gone too far to the left at this point, which makes it hard to watch, plus the current cast just doesn’t vide like others in years past. They appear to be trying too hard. That being said, NBC should bring them back for at least one more season. Let them return to what made them successful in the first place. At least let them take the year to wrap up story lines, bring back people and properly memorialize Lenny Briscoe.
Finally, is Allie serious? There have been numerous Black and Latino(a) defendants on L&O over the years, recent seasons aren’t that different. Maybe the writers feel that the REAL media “carefully” picks certain faces to create the headlines so they’re okay representing another group a little more on the show to balance things out. Besides, that means more “other” actors and actresses are working vs. the Black & Latino(a) actors and actresses who are sitting at home watching (I’m sure they’d rather be working). Though I’m sure Allie would complain if there were too many Black & Latino(a) roles due to L&O’s affirmative action hiring policies.
I will be so upset if it goes – I am already upset it is not in syndication as much. I pride myslef on having seen almost every episode since its begining. This is THE BEST SHOW on TV. We don't need that reality crap that is all over the place – keep the good dramas. Don't be stupid NBC
I love L & O. NBC wants to can it because it costs money to produce, but quality does cost money. I hate the reality shows, only someone brain dead can enjoy American Idol and Dancing with the Stars.
With L & O, it goes through the process of the crime, arrest and the prosecution of that crime. It goes through the entire judicial process.
But NBC has a problem with intelligence. They don't have any. The only other good show they have is "The Biggest Loser", as it shows what happens when someone actually gets off the couch, modifies their eating plan and gets active. Hey, if L & O gets canned, maybe I'll turn off the tv and get active myself.
You are the one not watching the show carefully. The criminals are virtually all left-wing stereotypes of establishment causasians and Jews. When minorities appear as the accused, it is generally as petty criminals who lead to the white rich person who is the real culprit. At least half the show is a burnt-out hippy fantasy about getting back at The Man. The show is all about racial stereotypes and left-wing politics.
The people screaming liberal bias obviously have no clue what the difference between a character and an overarching ideology is. I'm a strong conservative and even I can see that the liberalism in Law and Order is a byproduct of the characters and not the overarching philosophy of the show.
Come on people, use a little sense.
This is Sad!!! I love Law & Order and Law & Order SVU.... all my long time fav shows are all being canceled... I hope NBC keeps it.. If not I can watch them all on USA
I agree completely and 100% with Nort. Liv and Ell need to stay! SVU is the best of all. The new cast of CI totally ruined it so get rid of that and start the LA one. Keep the original. Allie, seriously. Racism is over.
I can't live without Law and Order. I watch this all the time, every night. What are they thinking. ???? The good stuff they take off and the new stuff is garbage and then they will be complaining about their ratings. Get a grip !!!!
I watch ALL of the Law and Order series. However, I think the most recent replacements for the assistant DA and others are not as good actors.
Law and Order has a long time to go to be the longest-running show, actually. Doctor Who has been on a total of 30 seasons as of this year, from the original 25 year run (with one year off) 1963-1989, and then the show's return in 2005 to present.
Let's do some fact-checking before you post your articles, CNN.
Stupid NBC....getting rid of the original and replace with spinoff? Does Law and Order: Trial by Jury ring any bells???
Do not cance Law and Order. We don't need anymore reality shows. The reality shows are coming to an end of their era, I hope.
It was embassing a few years ago when I was called for a survey that almost all the programs we watched were on NBC, Now for regular programs, about all we watch is LAW and ORDER on NBC. However, the local news KCRA is great except for the talkative weather man.
Do not cancel LAW & ORDER. We don't need anymore reality shows.
I think those shows are coming to and end of their era.
This is the last NBC show I actually watch. It's too bad.
I LOVE LAW AND ORDER- ESPECIALLY SVU...WHO CARES WHAT 'WING' IT IS OR HOW THE 'CRIMINALS' ARE PORTRAYED...ITS A FRIGGIN TV SHOW AND I ENJOY IT IMMENSLEY! IF NBC DOES NOT RENEW THE SHOW, THEIR LOSS AS THIS SERIES HAS MILLIONS OF FOLLWERS!
This is, in my humble opinion, one of thehighest quality dramas on TV today, and for the last 20 years. It would be a huge mistake to take L&O off the air. Instead take one or 2 of the crapy comedies and reality shows you just put on, like "Minute to Win it", this is an embarrasement.
I hope it stays on forever- I've beena fan since it first started- it's the best TV one can get about NYC
Rock on! I totally agree. So true.
One less progressive, liberal propaganda outlet on NBC. When they were just a who-done-it they could excel but mostly it was filled with a bunch of Obama-like socialist crap.
Now if NBC could just shut down it's news propaganda.
I agree with Monty W. But the scripts have been too political. I wish the stories would just stick to solving the crime and prosecuting the criminals and stay w away from political messages.
What a shame! L&O – one of the best shows on network TV. There's a reason it has lasted 20 years.
" Have you ever watched an episode with a black or a Latino criminal?"
Yeah, many times. Was there a point to that, bigot or did you just need to use your computer?
Sag – My fav Lennyism is when someone was talking about camping, and he quipped "I spent a year like that one weekend"...Orbach was one of a kind.
Tonya: racist much?
Its insane that the original that has maintained the excellence thought the
20 years would be canceled and SVU which is worse and worse every week may get picked up
ABOUT TIME!!!!!!!!! I am tired of the Law & Order channel. Law & order this, Law & order that. A&E shows Law & Order all day long. I am glad to see it go, it's departure is long overdue. Let's celebrate!
Marissa and Dalton:
SVU is the best out of all of them.
Way to go, NBC! By all means, eliminate one of the few reasons I have left for watching your network! I admit that I get tired of the L&O series (all of them) pandering to illegal aliens and their sympathizers (Oh, boo-hoo! They just want a better life!...well, heck, don't we all?) but I still enjoy the show most of the time and Jeremy Sisto is so good as Lupo. The whole cast is great, IMO. Why does NBC insist on sticking a fork in its own eye on such a regular basis? If L&O goes, so do I. It's about all that I watch on NBC in prime time now. (I'm tired of SVU and its constant emphasis on the personal lives of the main characters instead of the story line.)
No is right! The new actors are Great! Whole new fresh look except for Waterson being too comfy in his role that he seems in mid yawn all the time. L&O should continue for several more years at least.
I wish I had a Lennyism to offer
The last episode of Criminal Intent was just blah...When they got rid of Goran, they killed that show...Jeff Goldblum is the only good thing it has going now...Kill that one...But the original and SVU should definitely stay...If they get rid of Law and Order, I may as well throw my TV in the closet cause that's all I watch...Nothing else...
I second that NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO! Its my favorite show. Its the reason why I watch the other Law and Order spinoffs. (Get rid of David Caruso in Miami) but don't get rid of L&O. Please!!!!!!!
I am not surprised to hear that the show is winding down. There is so much residual income in store for Law & Order in the re-run market and DVD's that they'll still be making money on this show for another decade or two; that'll all now be 'free' money as they're now not having to reinvest a single dime of that creating new content.
It's a VERY tough market for television channels to be in right now as they're looking at reduced budgets for new and existing content and also increased pressure to meet profit expectations. If they can spend half of the money they pay for Law & Order on a new show that will bring new younger viewers onto the schedule instead, it's just a matter of simple math. New vampire show = young viewers with lots of money to spend on their advertisers' goods. Law & Order show = older viewers watching their bank accounts.
Personally, I stopped watching the series (and all of the growing spin-offs) years ago as I felt they stagnated. I did tune in for a couple of episodes with Jeff Goldblum to see what he would be like, but as with the rest of the series, it's just not a compelling show for me to watch anymore. Don't get me wrong... I'm a fiend for these kinds of shows... I just feel as though I've seen this bit in one episode, that bit from another, that they pulled that court antic from a show from three seasons ago... It sincerely feels like they're just piecing these shows together from existing Law & Orders.
It was a great run... 20 Seasons is nothing to shake a stick at. All us CSI and House fans are just crossing our fingers that we'll get even half that!
My husband and I watch news, sports, The Good Wife, and Law and Order. And you are going to take Law and Order away from me? Please, no!
Black and Latino criminals are boring and predictable...White criminals make WAY better story lines!!!!!
NBC needs to resign itself to being a niche channel and be satisfied with the quality TV it offers and people LOVE. I even converted two "anti" law and order people to the show this season. NBC execs seem to keep getting it wrong.
This from the same network that also killed "Hill Street Blues", LA Law, and St. Elsewhere. Bunch of liberal stooges.
Y'all should just watch The Wire instead. It's a show about real police, real crime, and real social issues.
NBC sucks – the last good thing they had was Will & Grace.
Hope not or I won't have anything left to watch on TV any longer!!
i hope it stays on for at least 10 more years.i have learned so much about the law that it is still alearning process for me.i enjoy this drama show.do not. i repeat do not take it off the air.
Keep L&O .... if any should go...take L&O Criminal Intent off...new cast just doesn't add up to the old series....
Yes – it is done for. We were avid fans for years – but it has gotten way too political to the hard left leaning liberal minority point of view.
One of these days – hollywood may learn that they are ENTERTAINMENT – and when they stop being ENTERTAINING – they get turned O-F-F.
This would be just typical of NBC. The morons that run that station know how to destroy just about anything. They haven't had a great idea in years. They deserve whatever they get.
PLEASE keep L&O. It has not, and may never run its course out - mostly b/c of the clever adaption of true life contemporary crimes it often portrays. So entertaining and intriquing, almost every episode. PLEASE KEEP L&O!
yaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa time for a new show
It's been crap since Jerry Orbach died and when Jack McCoy became the DA instead of the primary ADA. I still watch the old reruns pretty much every day. SVU and CI are also crap.
Maybe another network could pick up the same shows? NBC has made huge mistakes including, but not limited to, cancelling the EMS based show Trauma, the Jay Leno debacle, and now this. It really is a shame...
I don't watch a lot of TV...but I watch all of the L&O franchises. If NBC poopcans it, it will be missed.
PLEASSEEEE NOOOOOOO! I'm with Avi! This is the best show ever–don't let it die!
Just let it go, TNT will pick it up in a heartbeat. Why bother to keep the only show worth watching on your lineup? Oh, just replace this show with a stand up comic...oh, that did not work did it...Hmmmm....
I live in the neighborhood most used by the L&O program for filming and welcome that they are cutting back.
When they park their 20 plus vehicles forcing hundreds of residents to move out of their way any reduction in that abuse is welcome.
If L&O was more ecologically sound in it's ways then things might be different. But seeing large diesel trucks, unregulated generators and other abuses make me happy for this cutback.
Well, what can u expect form the network that messed up Conan and Leno. Obviously they're not very bright over there.
Remember, this is the same network that thought putting Leno on at 10pm est was a good idea.
L & O unfortunately died with Jerry Orbach. It's not been the same since his untimely demise.
Like that other poster I am sick of the leftist slant of this show. Portraying law enforcement is easy. If you are suspected of a crime, you get arrested, tried and then sentenced. That's all there is to the law, right?
If there is another season and it is short, I think Wolf should go for a through-written story over the entire season.
The big networks aren't going to be happy until all their programming is MTV/VH1 reality caliber garbage.
I wonder how they EVER managed to make TV shows that weren't the awful drivel of the so- called called "reality TV" they push off on us because it's "economical" for them?
Maybe if they didn't overpay their late night hosts, and/or have to honor 5 year contracts they broke for incredibly stupid decisions, they could afford quality programming.
It's no wonder the FX's, TNT's, USA's are getting all the good shows and sucking up viewership. But hey, you can't tell these arrogant TV execs anything, they still think they have a monopoly on the viewing audience, all the while, bit by bit, the audience is slipping away to the previously unthinkable cable networks.
It's like watching a certain emperor fiddle while the city burns.
OMG......I love this show..My kids use to pick at me for staying up watching marathons. Now they watch it ALL day. PLEASE do NOT take this away from me......I wont need a television if you take Law & Order off!!!
My husband and I love the Law and Order series, especially the SVU version. We have really enjoyed the Sharon Stone character. She brings a lot to an already outstanding show.
Not surprising, really. With the whole Conan O'Brien debacle still lingering, this move is not surprising at all.
Cut the shows budget and episodes down to 6 to 10 a season? They are crazy. Why? So they can give some mindless, easily-digested shows a chance on their network?
Dick Wolf should shop this series around to another network. There would be plenty of networks willing to accommodate the "Law and Order" series. Hell, FX would let them be a lot more raw and gritty. TNT would give them a ton of creative control and financing as well. Both of those networks love good dramatic programming.
If it's not broke, don't fix it. Unless you're NBC. If you're NBC, fix it until it breaks.
Three words: I hope so.
Why is everyone on here such an SVU hater? SVU is the best one out of them all!
If you ask me, there is no need for ANOTHER L&O (though set in Los Angeles). Are you kidding me? There are enough cop shows on TV already and enough L&O shows. Let it be.
Do not like the new cast of L&O C.I.. so take that one off,
These new detectives are to Hollywoodish , Vincent D"onofrio and Kathryn Erbe cannot be replaced, and with Van Buren leaving that cancels this L & O for me . Vincent had a way that really gets your attention as to how he will irritate someone into confessing and Kathryn had just the right temterment to work with this man, Let me tell you not many people could compliment each others as these two did.
Have always watched L & O but like so many others thought Sam W was better at prosecuting than administration politics. Maybe he can get so disgusted with this new fellow he can step down for the betterment of the people, But keep L & O get rid of L&OCI
You know I've been watching this show since the very beginning and have thoroughly enjoyed it. I would be very dissapointed to see it cancelled but I will survive. ER had to end, so did MASH and Happy Days. I'm still in withdrawl over the ending of Cheers though. NBC has made some stupid decisions over the years and this is just another one of them
I'm not entirely sure WHY NBC would do this, but I think it'll turn into the Simpson's all over again; and actually, L&O would probably just go to a different channel, considering it's on like four or five anyways...I think we'll be okay.
I JUST WANT VINCENT D'ONOFRIO BACK PLZ! D:
BIG MISTAKE! The show is the reason there's even a
SVU or CI, both of which are leaning much too much toward blood and gore. We boomers, millions of us, prefer the basic Law and Order.
I have always felt one of the best ways to inject life into a long-running show is by bringing back original writers, producers, and talent. I'd like to see Law & Order come back for another season, but not just to set some kind of record. Producing these things is too expensive to do it for sentimental reasons.
Another stupid decision....how about more reality TV that completely SUCKS!!!!!!!! The only show left on tv I religiously watch and they are taking it off??? I might as well sell my nice new flat screen tv any takers if this happens????
Thus signaling the beginning of the end of intelligent TV, unless you count the passing of Homicide: Life on the Street.
The original Law and Order is one of my favorite shows. I had seen every episode since the show had started and replays had been shown on TNT. If the story is true, it is sad to see the show leave. As far as political commentary and the criminal element, the show ranges from conservative to liberal and criminals from all background. I had seen the criminals been women, men, rich, poor, black, white, latino, professional, christians and muslims. Depending of the year or which character is the DA, you get a different persective. DA Branch was conservative and DA McCoy had always been a little liberal. That is all part of the show to show how different viewpoints view the same subject. This show rates as high as Homicide and the Wire.
BEEN A FAITHFULL FAN SINCE THE BEGINNING. I AGREE THAT THEY NEED TO WORK UP TO A FINALE AND THAT IT WOULD TAKE ONE MORE SEASON.
SOMETIMES I HAVE L&O RERUNS ON ALL DAY ON A LAZY SUNDAY.
IT WILL BE LIKE NOT SEEING OLD FRIENDS.
If they are going to cancel anything it should be "Criminal Intent" and keep the original Law & Order and SVU!
sure! go ahead! take it off! One of the few good programs left that teaches lessons of life.
Just put on some more of the mindless reality shows.
NBC has gone from bad to WORSE!
Just another bad decision in a long line of bad decisions which is sinking NBC further into the brink.
Sad to see this show go. I was late to the L&O table but have enjoyed the show since I began watching about 12 years ago. Who's running NBC, they seem to be making all the right move lately (not) the show they should do away with SVU that would be a better move. Then they should bring back Criminal Intent to network, which is also a very well produced show.
L&O is one of the few intelligent shows left on tv. I don't know how many times I've watched the show with my kids and used it as a teaching tool on life's lessons. They've learned so much about the law and the punishment given to those who choose to break it. We mostly watch SVU and I know it has reinforced what I tell them about personal safety on the internet and on the streets. We would be sad to see this go.
Did the freepers all get together to hit the comment section, or are there that many random stupid people reading CNN?
Thinking things through and presenting an interesting storyline that poses moral questions is not "liberal bias." As for Shannon, who thinks Dick Wolf is a liberal, I suppose the best advice is to stop watching TV and pick up a book.
Please don't kill the L&O, what will I do on a sick day if I can't catch a L&O marathon?
And for all the "liberal" haters out there, go watch Faux Newz for your fiction and leave L&O alone. No one makes you watch a intelligent, entertaining show that doesn't lie to you, pretending it is the truth.
You do know that Faux won the "right" in court to lie to you. Oh, you didn't know? That figures... most Faux Newz watchers don't care about the truth, they only want to hear what they want to hear. The truth matters not.
Law & Order is the best of ALL. We've tried all of the L&O shows but found the others to be over the top in acting AND storylines. NBC is making a BIG mistake!
It's like showmanship. Hit that high note and walk off stage. Leave the audience wanting more. I would rather miss it, then forget about it.
Good ridance. This is show is just a fantasy about police and prosecutors going after the wealthy and powerful. Walk into any courtroom in this America, and you'll see exactly the opposite. They spend almost all their time going after the poor and disenfranchised, because it's politcally "safe," like the schoolyard bully who only picks on the weekest kids. The criminals at Goldman Sacks who destroyed our economy are still living in mansions, while our jails are filled with poor people who smoke pot. The only thing this show was good for was allowing people to ignore reality.
Hey i love this show and would hate to see it end. As for those that don't like the show and want it off the air stop watching. I mean there are other things to watch beside this show. Law and Order is the best show to watch i love all 3 shows really so i hope they don't take this one off take another show like all those reality shows. Leave Law and Order alone.
I LOVE LAW AND ORDER!!! If they were to cancel it, it would be a huge mistake!
While we classify Doctor Who as "Sci-Fi" here in the US, it's a very difficult to categorize show. It's a family show that blends quite a few genres into one. (and yes, is fantastic TV. Our family has a show that all ages enjoys watching together – so rare for TV shows!). Celee's comment amuses me – wouldn't last a season? It's on in the US right now. It's been around since literally the day after JFK was shot. And thankfully, it doesn't appear to be going anywhere soon. Its spinoff, Torchwood, dove into topics that a US network would never, ever dare show on TV. It was amazing, gutwrenching drama last summer.
L&O was good but started to trend downhill a few years ago. SVU never really worked for me at all. CI is better, and perhaps should be the mainstream show these days. Eliminate at least one of them, possibly two.
That said, I've given up on most network TV entirely. BBC-America, HBO miniseries, and the occasional show elsewhere. I'm not interested in the perpetuating of freak-show status on reality shows, nor interested in hearing horrid singing of songs that should have been forgotten years ago (Idol).
if they're going to cancel a L and O series, I wish it would be SVU. That is the same stuff over and over again. At least with regular L and O, I LOVE anthony anderson and jeremy sisto! If it's true about an LA show, have those 2 move there!!
To Jim, I said Black Woman, not man!!!!!
yes I am a long stanging fan, that why I know there even was one and which season she was in.
I agree with Avi. I don't know what I would do without that show.
Big disappointment. L&O is iconic and NBC seems to be, once again, forgetting the old lesson to "dance with the one what brung ya". Once L&O is gone, my inclinaiton is to flip over to CBS for decent crime drama...other than the L&O franchise, NBC simply falls short in this genre.
Specific to Monty...its not "leftist"...its "progressive" and, by the way...since the show is ABOUT NYC....welcome to our part of the country.
No, don't cancel the show
I think it should at least go out with a boom. Law and Order is one of my favorite shows, and it's been a part of my life since I was a little kid (I'm 20). A short yet awesome season could be the best thing for this show. Perhaps even a little epic miniseries.
I just hate it when people like NBC and Dick Wolf are force-fed opportunities that can easily be twisted into one of the greatest television masterpieces of all time and throw it all away.
I can't stress it enough.. This is your chance to create your magnum opus, Mr. Wolf. Don't mess it up!
Also, to everyone who will miss L&O, watch the First 48, it's a pretty similar true-life kind of show. Highly recommend.
tazz, the article reads the longest running drama. Are you saying the Simpsons is a drama? You should stick to your cartoons, because apparently reading is not your strong suit.
NO!!! Law and Order is the only show on that gives you real insight to the way things are really handled in the cop world. They don't cover it up with rose colored glasses. It shows the way how sometimes the police "work around" the laws to catch the bad guys. I also love the way it takes real live current police investigations and work them into the program. I say "LIVE ON FOREVER L&O!"...AND PLEASE NBC GIVE ME A BREAK!!!>>>>you would cut this entertaining show and keep BS shows like the biggest looser and the apprentice on the air? WHY?
NOOOOO!!!! the best written drama on TV by far. Please don't take my "happy hour" away!
Is Leno making them do this?
Once again everybody... let's hear it for NBC (Never Been...C Cmart)
If Law & Order goes off the air I honestly think that I could just put a chair where the tv now stands, a lamp and a book nearby. Maybe we'll go back to interacting with other humans and talk. Reality TV has no positive attibutes = just cheap , shoddy television at its worst. Why would I care who someone dates, sleeps with, fights with or competes in no point contests with.
I guess the bright side is I will save my monthly cable bill.
Wake up idiots!!!!
Allie, I agree with you that the show deals with mostly current events that happen in the news. May NBC needs to look again at a show called "Southland" that they screwed up and cancelled. That is a good show that deals with blacks and latinos. It's on TNT Thursday nights. You can start watching that Allie. Maybe NBC should look at bringing Southland back to NBC. Hey Carlos, if you are so worried about racial profiling, you need to drive into Arizona, get a speeding ticket, and get a pass back to your homeland. Anyway, Law & Order should at least be given another year. One of the best shows on TV.
As to Allie comment, If you were a real fan of the show, you would know that Cortney V. Vance, who played the district attorney on Law and Order CI and is African American, once played a stock broker who was convicted of murdering his boss. It's always a good idea to know what you're talking about before making such comments!
I miss Vincent D' Onofrio on L&O: Criminal Intent !! That show was my favorite because of him. What happened?
I have always liked this show. The cast is great now as it has been throughout the show's tenure. The writing and storyline is always very good. When NBC changed the day it comes on from Wednesday night, where everyone was used to it, I think some people couldn't find it (I know it took a while for me to do so). I hope they don't cancel one of the few really good, interesting crime dramas left on t.v.
We all tend to only see what is similar to ourselves, you only see your kind because people of other races disappear into the background. You consider us part of the playing field, and not as players in the game of life and business.
I have a very close friend who is black and is a regular extra on the show (plays perps, fathers, dead people, a judge, a professor, etc)...so I don't see what you see. However I also notice something else..that there has not been one single black woman on the legal side of the show since its first season?
Why is that Allie?
I love the show but it says to me and my wife (who turned me on to it) that only hot white women get those kinds of jobs, while blacks and latinos are relgated to the blue-collar police work.
What message do you think this sends Allie?
You desire to see more minorities on the criminal side of the plots becasue you think that is what the world is like, and why to you think that way? is it because you research crime stat in NYC or that you believe what TV tells you to believe (other shows at least) about minorities and their roles in crime.
I dont think the writers are racist or even all that biased, but I do think they believe American TV viewers won't accept blacks or latinos as critical thinking, white-collar characters because that's not the box that most americans see us in or are comforatble with...why is that Allie?
That's for you to answer...
I watch Law & Order SVU and I think its one of the best shows on tv. I have watched a few episodes of Law & Order and they were pretty good. I say keep it on and cancel some of those dumb game shows or reality shows. That stuff is old news!
We for one watch law and order every week, and will miss it terribly if it should be taken off.
Dear NBC: please stop trying to ruin your own network. Thanks.
"SILLY AMERICANS?????? Not to get off the topic but take a look at what is going on down in the Gulf of Mexico by BP! Silly limey."
And this also puts football in its proper perspective.
Please keep it going, it is an excellent show with great actors & actresses. The stories are fresh and up to date. It needs to set the record as it has already set the standards. Even if it ends tv movies would be great.
I have love L&O, including Criminal Intent, and the short lived Trial by Jury,...but have never enjoyed SVU.... but when I watch reruns or current shows I am disturbed by how the DAs are out for blood and finding ANY possible way to convict/punish someone... I'm not certain if is my change in perception of our legal system having dealt with so many bad attorneys or if the show is intentionally doing that.
Either way I would rather it stay on because fans wanted it to but please don't leave it on to just achieve a goal...that's rigging the results and it isn't right.
Law & Order is the only NBC show that we watch now because it's an island of good drama in a polluted sea of the Amazing Survivor Race Dancing with the American Idol Stars.
But the network has a history of stupid decisions regarding its best shows - Look at what they did with Homicide: Life on the Streets ... Their last decent drama before L&O.
celee – Doctor Who is a BBC series, that has indeed run that long with a short break between. It is actually hands down better than 99% of American TV. (Yes, I am an American). Their spin-off, Torchwood is also fantastic! Don't knock it 'til you try it. Of course, not many people can go from 'crime TV' to another genera. So it is understandable that you 'don't get it.' Get rid of L&O....There are plenty of other shows out there. Especially on BBC. Well done!
I've watched L&O since the beginning, but when they 'promoted' Sam Waterston and kept taking away the cop characters that I liked, I stopped watching. I only watch the reruns. And since they've just obliterated L&O Criminal Intent by taking Vincent D'onofrio and Kathryn Erbe off, I've stopped watching that show as well. I can promise you, that will be the next one to go because they've ruined it, too. Stupid, stupid people.
NBC has made some very bad decisions lately. This would be the worst. L&O is one of the few shows that is well written and acted. A rarity these days on TV.
I love law and order. Followed it when it first began. Keep it afloat and get rid of criminal intent. Suv, is the greatest, so don't mess with Olivia and Elliot. Thank you.
If the idiots at NBC cancel Law and Order, I will make it a point to never watch that network again. The fubar concerning Jay Leno is strike 1 AND 2. If Law and Order goes that's strike 3.
Law and Order is one of the best show on TV.
If NBC don't want is, maybe CBS will take it on.
SILLY AMERICANS?????? Not to get off the topic but take a look at what is going on down in the Gulf of Mexico by BP! Silly limey.
I have been watching Law and Order since the days of Mike Moriarity as the ADA. I just say no to Idol, Dancing, Survivor, Lost, and the rest of the unreality shows.
L&O is the most intelligent prime time tv left. Guess I willhave to go to NCIS. CSI has gotten worse, but the new black kid on CSI Miami adds a good wrinkle.
NBC, DON'T LET GO OF LAW AND ORDER!!!!!!
L & O brings to TV a thoughful show that keeps ones attention and deals with issues that are topical. Just the fact that it has been on TV for 20 years indicates its substantial audience appeal. IT WOULD BE FOOLISH TO CANCEL THIS SHOW!
I can remember when television seasons were 26 shows long, with the reruns the entire season. With the entire new season being run, and then following that, rerun. I can remember when the day and time a show would be on wasn't played with just to see if you could "trick" the viewers or if you could crater a show that you wanted to crater by making it impossible to find regularly.
I remember when grown-ups ran television. When did that stop? How? Why?
NBC will be committing programming suicide if they cancel L&O. While the writing has gone a little "Perry Mason" the last few years, it has always been an enjoyable show demonstrating the real leg work that goes into being a detective and a prosecutor. Prep, prep, and more prep. No shoot -outs and explosions. In twenty years, I have rarely felt cheated.
Entertaining but predictable. The first suspect is always a foul-mouthed, violent, racist pig with fangs and blood all over his/her clothing. Obviously innocent. Then, with about 10 minutes left, the victim or accused will attempt suicide or get blown away by someone who is previously unheard of.
Allie is a bit extreme in his statement, but he does have a valid point. The show disproportionatly portrays the majority of criminals as being white, when, in reality, statistically speaking, the majority are non-white. However, if they were to apply real-life statistics to their story lines, they would be subjected to naive activists who'd rather not hear the harsh truth.
All the news that's fit to omit hit the nail on the head: "Ya, we get it, white people bad, people who worship god are sick and that is all they BELIEVE in, conservatives are all bad, talk shows ruined everything (unless it is NPR....) and every criminal does stuff because of the man........."
This seems to be the central theme behind not just television shows, but movies as well, anymore. It's all been pretty lame for awhile now. They bore me. I could care less what they put on or take off. None of the networks have anyone or anything that is remotely "entertaining."
Are you all really that broken up about a T.V. show? For serious? Play a board game with you kids or something, but get off the couch!
God, I hate NBC so much. I swear it's a bunch of monkeys running that place.
T.V as we know it is now dead unplug the 51" flatty and die. or can there be a Law and Order Channel? All L&O all day, all night.
There is no justice in America as Law and Order departs and Dancing with has beens ranks right up there! Have we become brain dead for entertainment?
Thank the Lord above! This is almost all my husband watches! I know it will continue to live on forever on TNT and USA so he can still get his daily fix.
Love this show, original and SVU are the best. Please don't cancel either. Very well written and acted with sharp dialogue.
Law and Order is the best TV show on television. I do think the story lines have not been as strong as they have been in the past, but it is still better than most of the stuff on TV. I hope they don't cancel, I almost stopped breathing when I heard this. Very sad.
Don't take Law and Order away just because you've got some stupid idea for a reality show, you pea brains!
It's one of the only intelligent shows around.
I like L & O but not so much since Jack McCoy isnt the prosecutor anymore. I dont care for the new guy and Jack McCoy not being the prosecutor is just a waste of his talent sitting behind the desk telling the new guy what to do.
I would hate to see it go. It is mind provoking. I put myself on the jury and listen objectively to each side. Sometimes I agree and sometimes, I don't but it's nice to become absorbed in something other than my own life's drama!
I'm tired of reality; It's amazing what some people will do for money.
I say entertain me with Law and Order!!
I wonder....Are the people who are considering cancelling "Law and Order" the same ones who made the decisions around the shows with Jay Leno and Conan O"Brien?
In this age of "reality" TV with its improv scripts, "Law and Order" is a sharp and smartly written drama which deals with some of the most controversial issues in a thought provoking manner. It features truly talented actors – not "here today and gone tomorrow" celebrities who only talent is picking the right plastic surgeon.
We need L&O do not take it off 2 of the # 1 fans said so.
Good, get rid of it. I used to watch it, too, but they bring too much of the left-bias politics into the story lines. We have enough of that in every day life.
This is the best show. I've been watching it since day one and never got bored. I would like to see it go for another 20 years!!!!
Keep it going.......
OMG, what will my husband do? Law and Order is like breathing in our house. However, I would miss it also, love the show, please don't go!
I hope this is not true i love Law & Order i do not know what NBC is thinking accept they do not want this show to run longer than Gunsmoke did and that is why this always comes up, who care how much money they spend on making this show i am sure they spend the same amount on making SVU and Criminal Intent so what is there problem they need to quit moving it around from night to night an leave it on night so people do not have to wonder when it will be on. i have watched this show from day one and i watch all the reruns on TNT. i pray NBC keeps it on.
I love L&O and will watch it as long as it is on (I watch the show in syndication on TNT all the time), I will also purchase the products of their advertisers to help support the show. It is a great show with great "ripped from the headlines" storylines. Things have not been going well for NBC, so might I suggest they allow L&O to come back for the 21st season and then pray that Dick Wolf will bring them another great drama!
Law and Order, you are my sunshine my lovely sunshine you make me happy, you make me happy when skies are grey. You'll never know deer how much I love you. Dick wolf don't take my sunshine away.lol. I love this show and CSI. Why NBC want to play with my emotions.lol
Please don't be stupid! Great show! I have been watching it since the beginning, and it is as good as ever.
Actually I think there was a black perp on one episode back in 1997 but he was just trying to get some money to pay his sick grandmothers hospital bill.
One of the best shows ever on TV. L&O, SVU and CI are the only NBC shows we ever watch. I prefer the programming on FX – The Shield (ended 2 years ago), Justified, Sons of Anarchy and USA – all well written and acted.
Thank gawd there'll be room for more reality TV B.S. – I haven't heard enough about those no talent a** clowns in a while!
Longest running DRAMA series on TV. The Simpsons and Dr. Who are NOT DRAMA
Has anyone seen the new "crap' that is coming down the "pipeline" .
Fox, CBS and NBC's line of new medical shows and cop shows are just a joke. ABC if they could find their ass should do somthing like take on 24 or Law and Order and their ratings would skyrocket !
Law & Order is my favorite show. The original is the best, though SVU is good as well.
HOWEVER, my most favorite ones are the ones starring Angie Harman. She was GREAT! Best asst. DA of any of them.
NBC should look at last week's SNL's CSI Miami spoof with Betty White as proof that L&O is stil relevant. L&O doesn't pummel you with cheezy one-liners (except for the opening scene) and has relevant stories while limiting the focus on technology or a constant club soundtrack.
I'd miss L&O greatly: it is all about stories and the city....and it makes cops look good.
I can only watch CSI shows on airplanes as a captive.
No, you can't kill off Law & Order/ I have been watching it from the beginning. Also, what's this about only 6 to 10 episodes of programs? Are they all going to be this way and the viewing public is stuck watching reruns? No wonder no one wants to watch TV anymore.
No. NBC don't cancel the show. They are great! Let Dick Wolf produce 10 eposides. Besides, Law & Order, I enjoy Law & Order SVU, Criminal Intent. Give Dick Wolf the 10 shows.
It would be a shame if the show is canceled. From the crime through the various twists of the investigation and the legal ins and outs of the trial, it is very entertaining. It is one of the best programs on TV.
This just in! NBC has announced that Jimmy Fallon will take over The Tonight Show this fall, and Jay Leno will move to Law & Order's old time slot.
Leno is scheduled to appear on Letterman, Jimmy Kimmel, and the new Conan O'Brien show not to promote the show but to explain how NBC president Jeff Zucker has been sinking slowly into a bizarre form of dementia.
Said former Howard Stern producer Pig Vomit, a former NBC employee himself, "You'll be sooooorrrrryyyyy, Zucker!"
Simpson is a cartoon!! Not legitimate TV entertainment!! Too funny
Allie – sorry, but you're wrong. There were several episodes centered about Mr. Books, a charismatic black leader reminiscent of Malcolm X, and one about Lateef Miller, a black radical on the run who shot a cop. Many of the episodes in recent years after focused on the Italian and Russian gangs of New York, which means that that the criminals were of course white.
Just because YOU think there aren't any white criminals doesn't mean that you're correct. Try to hide the bigotry a little better next time, okay?
I watch L&O on NBC, not another one of the network shows. I watch two shows on CBS, everything else is on USA, TNT, TLC (not KATE) etc.
The reality shows are disgusting and a hugh waste of time. Is there no one with creativity, imagination and talent left working for the big 3, ABC, CBS, and NBC?
What I don't understand is why people are complaining NBC's "march to mediocity" is somehow contrary to the American television viewer's tastes. Could NBC keep this incredibly mediocre show running, recycling the same plot format and still get you to believe that this represents law and murder investigation in NYC? Absolutely. But why bother? They can literally throw anything in front of you, and you will buy into it and watch it. They can convince you to watch a 3rd or 4th cop drama, or a 5th hospital drama, or throw some people on an island with no storyline direction whatsoever, and you'll watch every minute. What then, would be the point of paying the inflated salaries of the Law and Order actors? Honestly, they could just take a TV camera and follow around any midget or family with multiple births and you'll watch every minute of that too. NBC's program lineup is not independent of what you all want. Eventually they are going to figure out what is the absolute minimum they can spend/do to keep you in front of the TV. Television networks have yet to find that minimum.
This show, and the entire franchise for that matter, needs to go. It used to be good drama, but anymore it's become a political platform for Dick Wolf to spew his hateful, liberal rhetoric. Used to be a fan, but they have lost me forever.
The only L&O that I regularly watched was L&O:CI, but without D'Onofrio and Erbe, I no longer watch it. I consider L&O:SVU unwatchable, despite its generally excellent cast. L&O itself has lost ground with me since the death of Jerry Orbach, but then I was never a regular viewer and mostly watch it on TNT in reruns.
KEEP THE ORIGINAL!
DUN DUN. It would be a mistake to cancel the show. If they do then Fox should pick it up.
NO! The only network program I consistently watch. Nothing else worth watching, especially on NBC. Keep it on forever.
Klee, apparently you don't watch The First 48 enough. There have been a few white criminals on there. As for L&O, I was hoping it would beat out Gunsmoke as the longest running drama in TV history. Oh well.
As a lawyer who started watching the show when I was in law school, the original Law and Order has always held a special place in my TV-watching heart, but let's face it – it's often depressing, blatantly unrealistic, and, like many others have observed, politically biased. Sad to see it go, but it's not a huge loss.
KEEP IT NOW
No. Please say it isn't so. If it is cancelled, I would hope that it will be in syndication on USA, TNT or otherwise and I'll continue to watch it, record it,, save it. Love all the Law & Order franchise shows, especially the original.
This is one of the very few shows I will not miss...I even watch the reruns over and over...it is probably the best tv show to date...please say this isn't going to happen...I remain faithful throughout cast changes and grow to embrace each new character...maybe TNT will save this show too as they did Southland, which I also love...I agree with all who are saying what is NBC making room for..more trashy game shows or reality....
For all that don't like the show, then stop watching, there is enough programming for you to find something you enjoy, rather than complaining about something you watched on your own accord.
For the rest of us, keep the show going!
How surprisingly that NBC (AKA Nothing But Crap) continues its march to mediocrity. In view of their ending of Life and SouthLand, this shouldn't come as a big surprise. I'm sure they will look at adding yet another unwelcomed reality show to their list of crap.
That's network TV for you. Always getting rid of the good shows and leaving with crap as usual.
I guess there's not enough gay propaganda in it to keep it on the air. How about "Will and Grace: Anal Victims Unit" for next season.
Hey Alli if you want to watch shows about Black and Latino criminals, turn the news on or watch the First 48. I watch the "the first 48" all the time and I have yet to see the first white criminal and the show is a reality tv.
I love the show, but I do not like how dark the background is on some of the shows. You can see the people, but the background is in shadows. Otherwise, I love the twist and turns that happen throughout an episode.
They need to make a CGI Lenny and bring him back to save the show. Jerry Orbach was that show.
This has been one of the finest shows in the history of television. Part of its success is due to its survivability with seamless change of characters. In fact, in my opinion, the current crew (and story lines) ranks right at the top (forgive me Lenny!). If there is a propensity to having the left turn signal turned on, it is because Adam Schiff, Arthur Branch, etc., were elected officials, and were all Democrats. That said, I thought the show balanced political perspectives very well; the People did not always win cases. The show showed some guts too, paraphrasing real current events (e.g. Four Cops Shot, etc.)
All things must pass, but if I had my druthers, L&O would stay on forever.
I hope they don't cancel this show. It is one of the last intelligent shows on tv. There's only a handful of decent shows on tv and Law and Order is at the top of the list. For people who don't like it, then don't watch. Each story line is done with professionalism and dedication. How can anybody say its time for them to go. I really hope not, I'm so sick of reality tv.
"Jay L&O" is going to be the new 10pm spin-off, right?
It's about time. The first few seasons of this show were decent, but the lack of realism of Law and Order gets worse every year. SVU is even worse for realism, and Criminal Intent is just....bad. Law and Order represents what is wrong with television, and by extension, American television viewers. Every day in the life of these lawyers and police detectives cannot possibly bring a unique legal case, or a criminal investigation that somehow always falls into place at the last minute. They keep recycling the same plot format, and they continue to get by with it. Let me guess, a housekeeper will find a body, then the detectives will start talking to people and actually interview the murderer, who will get them to move on by giving some kind of alibi. Then the investigation will hit a dead end, but about 35 minutes into the episode the detectives will stumble on a case-breaking clue, so they'll go back and re-interview the murderer and get "tough" with him/her in the interrogation room. Then the murderer will hire a defense lawyer, who will walk in and stop the interrogation right before the murderer is about to talk. Said attorney will then introduce some ground-breaking legal concept in an attempt to get the murderer acquitted. Eventually the defense attorney will hit a dead end, ask for a plea deal, and the DA will get "tough" with the defense attorney, dramatically respond "no deal!", and the case will go to the jury. What did I just describe, 90, 95% of the Law and Order episodes?
No, please dont let it go away....
Allie-are you kidding? They use all sorts of people from different backgrounds...
And what do you mean leftie politics? They make sure both opinions get brought up...you just don't want to hear both sides...stick to your Fox news.
Homer Simpson for the win America.. 2010-2011 is the 22nd season
take that!!!!! all you lawyers , cops and judges .. four finger cartoons get more money now .. ;)
Fred Thompson was a counsel during the Watergate hearings AND a senator from the state of Tennessee well in advance of joining L&O. Perhaps we should get the facts straight before we make pronouncements.
I agree with the comments about the liberal bias. I used to love L&O but for the past few years it's been unabashedly to the left. Most prosecutors care about locking up criminals. In the real world I doubt Jack McCoy could get elected as DA even if he ran in San Francisco.
I think L&O took a major hit when Jesse Martin left the show. But I still think it's a very intelligent and interesting drama....one of the best still left on television. With trash like Jersey Shore and The Hills infecting every station out there, it is so hard to still find a smart non-reality based show anymore. SVU is by far my favorite of the three L&O's...never been a fan of CI. The characters on that installment are not the best, in my opinion. Regardless, we need more shows like L&O. If this gets cancelled, let's at least hope NBC doesn't replace it with more reality garbage like American Idol.
@Allie I am black and I love Law & Order and so does most of my black family. They all arent saints and had some run in with the law. Sorry but I guess its just you that has a problem with the show. I sure dont. I DVR the new ones for SUV but I dont really watch the new ones for the original shows. Its just not as interesting.
I agree with Dalton...keep L&O and drop SVU. The SVU people have too many 'issues'. Law and Order is a great show and has successfully bridged the many changes in personnel. NBC, let it continue!!!!!
@Dalton, surely you jest. Cancel SVU?!
Mrs Wilson, the TRUTH hurts doesn't it.
Maybe you can go work for NBC, they need real smart people as between their news and programming, they are NUMBER FOUR.... YAY.....
Used to love all of these shows until they shoved their leftist garbage into every story line.
Ya, we get it, white people bad, people who worship god are sick and that is all they BELIEVE in, conservatives are all bad, talk shows ruined everything (unless it is NPR....) and every criminal does stuff because of the man.........
I hope they give it another year to give it a proper send-off. They have done this with other shows in their lineup.
The show is not as good as it once was, but it still is one of the best shows on TV today. I am glad they didn't go the ER route, where everyone ended up sleeping with everyone else.
Another blow to this is the possibility that TNT will drop this as well this year. In the report they quoted, I believe they said that the syndication agreement with them also ends this year.
I hope that doesn't happen. I love Lenny Brisco's wisecracks.
As for the leftist comments, I can only say...
IT'S A TELEVISION SHOW. GET A LIFE!
Let me get this straight. NBC wants a new spinoff to law and order but wants to get rid of the original. With this and heroes NBC is just to keep going down. They are ready in last place. After this the may be asking for a bailout.
And....what better show has NBC? Oh yeah...they are NBC.
@ John: True, but they said longest running drama. Dr. Who is sci-fi.
John, it would be longest CONTINUOUSLY running show.
I'd like to see Law and Order Continue, however SVU and CI can go as far as I'm concerned.
The team of Kathryn Erbe and Vincent D'Onofrio made CI the show to watch with the current cast its a lack luster home For Holywood has beens.
Regarding SVU some poeple may like it but the leads of a Male with with anger management issues and a man hater do nothing for me.
I've been watching Law & Order for YEARS! It's older than I am! The greatest part about this show is that it's unique, original, and always keeping up with the times. The story lines follow current events and give some interesting perspectives on what's going on beyond the view point of the media. NBC can't cancel it, it's one of the few good shows they have and the fact that it's been on the air for 20 years proves that!
Somebody needs to bring back a good cowboy picture. Just saying
I agree with many posters. L&O and its many offshoots is television for intelligent adults. Whether you like the plot lines or not, at least it makes you think and following the show takes an IQ over 100. Along with Friday NIght Lights and SNL, the programming has not dumbed down like many other networks. Please, NBC don't give us stupid reality television. Perhaps get rid of the marriage ref. Do we really care what celebrities have to say about the complexity of relationships?
I do not want to see this show go i love the cast the story lines if NBC keeps it on Monday and stops moving the show around the rating would be better. I have watched since the very first episode and look forward to every new season.
NBC could be crazy to let this go
I often joke that my "law degree" came from watching L & O (my MD came from ER). NBC is getting creamed in the ratings, so I hardly believe getting rid of L & O is going to change that. Maybe they think they can replace it with something that will break into the top 10. I've had it up to here with reality shows, and L & O is one of my must-sees amongst the claptrap that's on.
Given NBC's poor showing in the ratings, they have nothing to lose by keeping it on.
Liberal bias, huh? This is the show that launched Fred Thompson's (Republican) political career!
But, of course, the show is set in New York–a liberal city, with liberal politicians and DAs. You expect it to reflect conservative values? Why? If you want conservative bias, write a show set in Arizona, with "Sheriff Joe" as the star!
As for the supposed "racial bias," that's nonsense–there have been countless criminals and victims of all colors, genders, and creeds on this show, just like in New York itself. It's the conservative blinders that don't allow "Allie" and her supporters to see what's in front of them.
My favorite is the old Criminal Intent. The first thru late middle years of Law and Order are still reruns that remind us of how good the show was. While it is quite obvious that story lines are taken from real life events, the interjection of too much political impetus has ruined the show. While on the broader subject, the new Criminal Intent is lacking the chemistry that Vincent and Chris Noth had with their partners. Jeff Goldblum is certainly quirky enough but in only one of the new episodes does Saffron show hope of becoming an interesting addition. WHERE IS COURTNEY B VANCE...sorry fellas, there is no order without him. SVU I stopped watching long ago.
This is not a problem with/about L & O. The management team at NBC is crap. They're praying for the Comcast takeover. Mediocrity buying mediocrity.
I can only hope the FCC blocks this one. Comcast rates in the bottom quarter of customer satisfaction.
NBC used to be the flagship television network. Poor selection of management has ruined them. Sarnoff must be screaming in his grave.
"I gave you a jewel and you turned it in to mud."
This is another example of how obama is destroying the country. Wait, what were we talking about again? Whatever it was, I stand by my original statement.
law and order has both sides of the political bent but it has always had a left wing da and a right wing assistant da...
sorta like 24, with it's right-wing hell-bent-for-torture and it's left wing icu
it's a tv show, and they always tend to defer to the writer's point of view
Hey, Allie: L&O has been going for mucho seasons. They have to be doing something right. Ergo, your comment is without merit. You, obviously, haven't been keeping up on the storylines. And you obviously don't know that when you point one finger at someone, you point three back at yourself. Can you do a better job that the writers of this magnificant show? If you can, contact Dick Wolf. I'm sure he'd love to hear from you.
This was a very enjoyable show in the 90s and early 00s. I think the show suffered when the lead detectives were changed too often in recent years. 'L&O SUV' has 2 strong lead detectives which add continuity to the show. I think they should combine the 2 shows and leave the name as 'Law & Order'
NBC moving the time of the show didn't help either. Should have left it on Wednesdays at 10ET.
NBC needs to have some guts when it comes to good drama. They kept Homicide: Life on the Streets on through two seasons of low ratings and got themselves a monster hit. It's ridiculous to cut L & O if the ratings are still up. NBC will soon stand for Nothing But Crap.
NO.... NO....NO... I love this show.
Give me a break-This is yet another stupid decision by NBC. They have NO other shows worth watching on prime time except the Law & Order show and it's spinoffs. Law & Order is one of the few intelligent shows left on broadcast TV with the rest of the stations filling up the time slots with stupid reality shows because they are cheaper to produce. My family prefers the original to the spinoffs but they are all well written, based on current news and facts and thought provoking.
PS--NBC is also RUINING the Weather Channel broadcasts, trying to make it all movies and entertainment. This needs to be current live information.
I agree with danielle, WHY do we have to put up with reality shows? They aren't actually reality BTW... And, John, what the heck is Dr Who? With a name like that I can't believe it lasted more than a season... honestly NO SHOW should last as long as you claim that one did. Silly Moron.
Its time for it to go... How many crime drama's can we have?
Bring it back one more year!! Still a good show and I would really miss seeing Sam Waterson and good-looking Jeremy Sisto!
I loved this show, but preferred it when Adam Shift was the DA and Sam Waterston as the deputy.
Too many changes, I dont watch the latest episodes but do watch re-runs. So it wont bother me if the take it off.
I hope they keep the show running. LOVE IT!!!!!!
Not liking Sharon Stone on SVU AT ALL!!!!!!!!! She will definitely be their downfall this season.
L&O is a very liberal franchise. It should be retired for good. It has no business on television.
As long as I have my "SVU" then Im okay! Phew! I got scared!
LOL @ the vast “left-wing” slant on L&O – JT, you do know Dick Wolf is a conservative, right? You obviously haven’t watched the show recently – the normalcy on the show is certainly NOT left-wing, and they certainly feature plenty of non-white criminals.
Here is my motion to dismiss...
BRING IT BACK
even an 'off' or bad episode is better than 90% of what's on now
I'm a LOYAL viewer since season 1....are you listening NBC ?
Andre' washington keep the show on the air.....
There are only a handful of what I'd call INTELLIGENT TV series on right now and L&O is definitely one of them. It is so sad to see these dimwit reality shows overtaking quality TV. L&O should at least get one more season just to close things out appropriately...
What? I guess more shows like 2 1/2 Men, House of Payne, Dancing with the Stars and other insulting shows to the Black and Hispanic communities and who knows what all, are better than Law and Order? It is ironic that I had intended to write in to compliment the writers for even more creative work lately.
Law and order ( all of them) My FAVORITE!!!
NBC is crazy!
For those of you complaining about a "liberal bias" (who the hell else would work in the DA's office in New York?), do note that Dick Wolf is a strong republican. McCoy is a liberal, and he's been presented as such and not as a moderate.
SAY IT ISN'T SO there is so little left on TV worth watching and this is one of them. Love the detectives now, not crazy about DA but the show is so good I watch even in one of the replacement isn't my favorite.
NBC obviously has issues at the top, Southland, Jay Leno fiasco and cancelling Law and Order maybe what we need is a whole new network in place of what is obviously a poorly managed network.
Even the Today show is going in the dumper. Harry Smith and George Stephanop++++ are better than Today it is fluff interviews and entertainers now.
KEEP LAW AND ORDER
No more supermodel Assistant District Attorneys?
No more supermodel Detectives?
L&O provides some of the hottest females on television. Without L&O, what careers can gorgeous, supermodel hot women aspire to be? I guess they'll just have to be supermodels.
Please don't take Law and Order off. I only watch 3 shows on regular TV anyway. Law and Order, Family Guy and The Cleveland show are the only reasons I even watch regular TV at all. NBC made a big mistake with the Jay Leno fiasco. They will be doing the same if they cancel this show. Although Cop shows and Hospital shows are overdone on many networks, i'd rather watch Law&Order instead of these dumb reality shows any day. Please do not cancel Law&Order!!!
Isn't Guiding Light, the daytime soap, the longest running dramatic series in history? Something like 55 years. I believe Meet the Press is still the longest running program, period. They've been going strong for something like 65 years now.
L&O has always been my favorite followed by L&O CI. Leaving it on one more year won't hurt anybody! Besides, if they do cancel, they need that last season to wrap up some story lines: Cutter & Connie get together (we all know they should), Jack reunites with his daughter, Lt. Anita beats cancer, and happiness for Lupo and Bernard, whatever that may be.
Either way, we'll miss you all.
Please do not cancel the show!!!
JT – if all it takes is a TV show to "push you to the right" you have no political convictions at all!
Why would they do that! What a shame!
Without Law & Order my TV life will end...this show completes me:)
This would make me profoundly sad, though the best seasons were the Briscoe/Green ones.
SVU is god awful. Every single episode is the same. And I wish CI would bring back Donofrio but I guess that's not going to happen, so the original is really the best of the three.
At least the reruns will be on for years to come...
Umm – The Simpsons are in their 21st year – L&O would not be the longest running TV series unless The Simpsons stop now and L&O go 22 seasons and they are already recording season 22.
Brilliant decision – let's remove one of the more intelligent shows remaining on NBC or others attracting the common man such as Marriage Ref or MInute to Win it - unbelievable!!!!
Too much good TV is getting cancelled! Gee, after this season of Dancing with the Stars do we really want another?
Law & Order: GITMO....enough said
Why cancel it? The formula of the show allows it to stay fresh. There are no long running plot lines. The main character of the show is the city and the crime, which there will always be. The dectectives and DAs are incidental. Each show is exclusive. Its almost like watching an hour-long movie. If you miss one episode, you can watch the next one and not have any holes to fill in.
L&O has a huge following on cable. If NBC decides not to renew, I think TNT or USA needs to grab it. Its alot better than the shows they have on there now.
Say it isn't so! .....................Say It!
yes, let's take the more intelligent, relevant and better written shows off tv...and replace them with nonsense medical/other 'dramas' that are basically expensive soap operas that play during the primetime hours.......sadly enough,...marjority of ppl these days seem to watch rubbish tv.
They should fire those execs making program decisions! Look what they did with Leno/O'Brien, and now they want to do this!! They aren't enough Law & Order shows on now. Forget the "spin off's", I'd switch to the original L&O if they were offered in a similiar time slot on another network. And I do check the repeats on USA/Bravo/Oxygen to see if I've seen the episode before watching the spin off. Bad mistake to cut !!!
I miss Adam. Of all the characters and 95% were/are great, he'll always be my favorite (Lenny and Brisco right behind!). I've hardly watched any of the episodes the last two seasons. The show is now all about boobs and being hip with very bizarre story lines. Oh well, all things come to an end.
Why do they always take off the shows that are good... This show has been on as long as I can remember...Players change but it's still a great show.... What a mistake
I agree with Allie. I don't consider myself a political person, but the constant selling of the left wing message in Hollywood pushes me to the right. L&O is just another example of a show that started great , but is now deminshed by writers with a political agenda.
Pie. Pie is the answer. Mmmm, pie!
One of the only good shows left on TV. With all of the 'reality' series it is just about the only shows I watch on TV! I don't like what they did with Criminal Intent, but I like the other 2. I guess I will just continue to watch them in re runs, instead of "main stream" "REALITY" shows
Is NBC crazy? This is the best show they have. If they have brains in their heads ,they will bring this great show back for a 21st season.
I have to agree with the first two posts. NBC seems to have it in for good, thought provoking evening dramas (e.g., L&O, Friday Night Lights, etc.). Also, I am sure someone has done the math. But, it seems to me if nothing more the future syndication revenues from these types of shows just have to offset the their production costs. You can turn the TV just about any time of day and find an episode of L&O!
I think this year's shows have been the best in many years. Love the interaction between the detectives and the ADAs. Perhaps Van Buren's impending departure should have been a red flag. I hope they can work things out. It would be sad to see it go out after such a great season. Haven't enjoyed SVU this year nearly as much as the original. I agree with Dalton: Can SVU and keep the original.
Keep the original get rid of CSI and SVU or whatever they are callled. With Van Buren leaving i;m through watching anyway. I welcome reruns. Don't like the new cast either, especially the fat one.
Allie, you're missing the point of the show... anyhow... I personally feel as if this is the last of the classic cop shows... it will be a slap in the face of real police officers, and real police work to replace it with something like csi
@Monty: The show has not changed–you have. Go back and watch some 1st and 2nd season episodes and you'll find that same "leftish" trend you think is new. What that really is is intelligent discourse on the world, not left-ism. You've simply fallen victim to thinking that Glenn Beck is correctly portraying the world when in fact he's been brainwashing you over to the ultra-right.
This is one of the most intelligent shows on TV. Allof us fans needs to write in and support.
ALLIE, You obviously dont watch the show enough. There have been numerous black and latino criminals in the story lines.
Over the past few years I've grown very tired of most of the police/medical procedurals on the tube. L&O (and its spin-offs) have been the only bright light. I found the stories, the pacing, the dialogue to be as good and as fresh as anything I've seen. I wish it would continue for a long, long time.
Why doesn't NBC just let it ride another year? Why doesn't Wolf agree to a shorter season? Why can't we all just get along? Why are lame reality shows taking over? Is Dancing With the Stars or American Idol really more interesting than Law and Order?
NO MORE COP SHOWS PLEASE..........
It'll be sad to see this series go, although I do kinda agree with Allie about the tendency toward racial profiling. Regardless, this is a great show; I'll miss seeing Sam Waterston as the DA dispense some much-needed justice in the seedy NYC area.
Law and order is NOT the longest running TV series.
Dr. Who has gone from 1963 through 1989, minus one year because of a strike and then again from 2005 to the present.
I really hope tis isn't true..I love Law & Order and have for years.
Hey allie..you don't like it..DON'T WATCH IT!
I love this show. My husband and I have watched from the beginning, through every change in detectives. We also love SVU and Criminial Intent. (Jeff Goldblum has brought an interesting nerdiness to that show). Please don't cancel.
Keep the original Law and Order and cancel SVU.
Geez I hope L&O stays on FOREVER!!! This has to be one of the best programs on TV!!!!
My wife and I have loved this show for a long time. Unfortunately, it has taken on a different feel by injecting leftish political commentary and has really turned us off. A few years ago and this would have been really disappointing but now it may just free up some DVR space.
Good! Long overdue. They should have learned to portrait a balanced, unbiased profile of the criminals in this country. Have you ever watched an episode with a black or a Latino criminal? Not for as long as I can remember. However, white crooks, weirdos, perverts – the entire variety has been carefully picked from the news and tabloids.
I agree 100%, Avi. Why does NBC keep making stupid decisions?!?
