'Idol' Top 4 should have stuck with duets
![]() testing captions I totally agree with the judges that tonight's duets completely outshined the solo performances. Jamie Foxx enjoyed the evening way more than I did, clearly. Someone is going home on Wednesday night, and I'm torn between Casey and Mike. Both have been on the bubble before, and tonight gave us no reason as to why they shouldn't be back. Your thoughts? The 'Idol' Top 4 go to the movies![]() testing captions 8:52 p.m. -The final duet of the evening is Casey and Big Mike singing "Have You Ever Really Loved a Woman." Again, the two of them play their guitars, and I enjoy it. Their voices seem to blend even better than Lee and MamaSox. Still, I can't help but think that we are looking at our bottom two. 8:44 p.m. - MamaSox is the last woman standing. She thinks the judges have been tough on her lately, and I agree. Jamie takes it to church and says her version of Kenny Loggins' "I'm All Right" needs to be a testimony. MamaSox is as saucy as ever, turning the song into a bluesy anthem. And unlike last week, she gives "Idol" the big finish with the notes at the end. Yay MamaSox! 8:34 p.m. - "Seduce me?" Really Jamie? His advice to Casey James seems to have done the trick, because his "Mrs. Robinson" was kind of hot. The Casey we know and love is back! Almost getting voted off last week must have shook him up a little bit, which was a good thing. Even if he may have been singing to Kara. 8:26 p.m. -I love the song "Falling Slowly," and Lee and Crystal "MamaSox" Bowersox sound good singing it together. I love seeing the two of them, facing each other singing and strumming their guitars. They rocked! I wouldn't be mad to see the two of them in the finals. And MamaSox has a "musical crush" on Lee? Her man better come with that proposal soon! 8:14 p.m. - Hey "Big Mike" Lynche. He says he feels pressure from his family, friends and city to make it into the Top 3. A year ago, he set a goal to make it into the top trio, but it's going to be a tough fight. Jamie gets him to dance to loosen "Big Mike" up. There is also some hand punching, so for me, more "Ali" flashback. "Big Mike" sings "Will You Be There," and it sounds like he starts out in the wrong key. Michael Jackson is hard to pull off, and this is a powerful song. I heart "Big Mike," but I did not love this performance. Such a disappointment. Cowell is so British and so confused. Loves it! P.S., I attended the Michael Jackson memorial in Los Angeles, and former "Idol" contestant Jennifer Hudson blew "Will You Be There" out of the atmosphere, so perhaps the bar has been set too high for me. 8:04 p.m. - First up is Danny Go ... oops, I mean Lee DeWyze singing "Kiss From a Rose." Jamie reminded me of his character in "Ali" when he coached Lee. All up in the face to get him to perform and connect. Not sure that it helped. The audience is loving it, but I was not moved. Once again, song choice is key, people. The judges weren't overwhelmed either. And is Kara DioGuardi wearing one of Ellen's suits? 8:01 p.m. – Awwww, Idina Menzel and Taye Diggs left the baby home and are enjoying date night at "Idol." Cool to see them in the audience. Is there anyone cooler than Jamie Foxx? He's trying to motivate them with ... T-shirts? I guess. 'Idol' Top 4 dive right in to performance night
![]() testing captions The first thing I thought when I heard Jamie Foxx would be mentoring "American Idol" tonight is whether any of the contestants are going to be auto-tuned. That's one music industry trend I wish would go far, far away. So annoying. I'm with Jay Z in terms of longing for the death of auto-tune. The festivities just began, and we get to see all of the contestants' faces super huge on the screen. "This is your Top 4, and this ... is American Idol!" Let's roll. Has the hot tamale train left the station?
Fox has already announced major changes for the seventh season of “So You Think You Can Dance” - judges will choose 10 dancers to compete rather than the usual 20, one contestant will be eliminated each week rather than two and former contestants will return as “all-star dancers” to partner with the new cast. And the changes don’t end on the dance floor. Fox wrote in a blog post Monday, the judges table will look a bit differently this season, as well. Unfortunately, or fortunately for viewers who wear ear plugs to keep her from damaging their ear drums, it doesn’t look like ballroom expert Mary Murphy will be a fixture on the show this season. However, joining executive producer and co-creator Nigel Lythgoe and director and choreographer Adam Shankman will be Emmy Award-winning choreographer Mia Michaels, who was absent during season six. Murphy has helped judge during the audition process and will hopefully guest judge and choreograph throughout the season, a source close to the show tells CNN. There’s a chance the hot tamale train will make its way to season seven after all. The two-hour season premiere will air May 27. 'Idol' Top 4 will one and a two![]() testing captions We’re almost there! “American Idol” is down to the Top 4 and Tuesday night Crystal “MamaSox” Bowersox, Lee DeWyze, Casey James and “Big Mike” Lynche will be performing songs of the cinema as they tackle the Movie Week theme. Special guest mentor is a man who knows lots about both movies and music: award-winning actor, singer and comedian Jamie Foxx. FULL POST Newsweek writer stirs anger with gay actor article![]() testing captions When writer Ramin Setoodeh wrote an essay for Newsweek expressing his belief that it’s rare for gay actors to be able to pull of playing a heterosexual character, he set off a firestorm. Setoodeh, who is openly gay, has been getting berated across the Internet for the article and has even incurred the wrath of Hollywood and Broadway stars. It all began when Settodeh’s article appeared a few days ago and led with the example of “Will & Grace” star Sean Hayes turn as the romantic lead opposite Kristin Chenoweth in the Broadway revival of “Promises, Promises.” FULL POST CBS says ‘Amazing Race’ winners didn’t cheat
Dan and Jordan Pious, the brothers who won "The Amazing Race" on Sunday night's episode, could go down as two of the most controversial winners in the show's history. The pair surged from third place to first, after moving into first class on the plane to San Francisco, giving them a head start that the other teams were never able to overcome. Commentors on the Marquee Blog yesterday didn't hold anything back: "How is it that they could go sit in first class? They tell the contestants at the beginning of the race that they can't buy tickets for first class the very reason that they would be deplaned first," wrote commenter ish. "Dan and Jordan cheated - plain and simple. They should have been given a half hour penalty at the finish line." Other commenters agreed. "I've never known anyone to be moved to first class without having to pay for that upgrade (which is the same as buying a 1st class ticket to begin with) – so in my opinion Dan & Jordan cheated and should have been given a penalty," wrote Wendy. FULL POST ‘The Daily Show’ gets the Roland touchIt was an all-ascot evening last night on "The Daily Show." After repeatedly calling out Roland Martin for having the audacity to don an ascot during a news segment, "The Daily Show" host has joined Martin's ascot call to arms. Too bad Stewart was wearing it wrong for the first part of the show. “Touche, Roland Martin,” the host said. “Turns out, it’s not so easy.” But he didn’t give up – Stewart continued to wear his golden ascot throughout the entire program, and at one point was joined by Senior British Person John Oliver….also wearing an ascot. Who are the 10 richest kids on TV?
It’s easy to feel jealous of celebrities - the glamour, the freebies, the wardrobe. But it’s even worse when they aren’t even old enough to drive, yet make enough money to buy a new car for every day of the week. On Monday, the New York Post released their list of the top 10 richest kids on TV. According to the paper, “Two and a Half Men’s” Angus T. Jones, 16, who makes a whopping $250,000 an episode, snagged the top spot. The CBS star was the network’s only young actor to make the list - four spots were filled by Disney channel stars, three by Nickelodeon and two by ABC. FULL POST The next Susan Boyle?
She needed help walking onto the stage, but 81-year-old Janey Cutler didn't need any help in bringing the audience on "Britain's Got Talent" to their feet. After singing a strong rendition of "No Regrets," the mother of seven, grandmother of 12 and great-grandmother of four is being called the next Susan Boyle. A video of her performance on YouTube had more than 800,000 hits by Tuesday morning at 10 a.m. Cutler was discovered in Glasgow, Scotland - the same city where Boyle was found by "Britain's Got Talent" last year. And while her hand shook a bit during the song, her voice soared. See the video of her performance here. |
