'Lost' finale expands by 30 minutes

The cast of 'Lost'
The cast of 'Lost'

If you watched "Lost" last night, you probably thought, "How are they going to wrap this all up in four hours?"

Well, it seems the producers may have run into this problem too. Work on the series finale was was recently completed. Now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the finale will run from 9 p.m. until 11:30 p.m. ET, expanding for a half hour from previous reports.

So, rejoice Losties! There's a little more island intrigue on the way come May 23. (By the way, that makes it 5 1/2 hours total of "Lost" programming on that night if you include the follow-up Jimmy Kimmel special).

Does this extra time make you more hopeful about the final episode? Let us know in the comments below. (And while you're at it, share your wish list for the finale here.)

The most brilliant films I have seen often go ahead quite far ahead in time, centuries, eons, and there is no reason why Lost can't do that. In that case, the next generation, Ji Yeon and Aaron, would be of the utmost importance. The island is out of space and time.

Ok I made a comment earlier and just came back today to read what the rest of people wrote. I would like to know why you would bother to write comments that are negative saying how the show is a "waste of time" and how you "hate it"? Isn't taking the time to write that a waste for you. Just proves what I said that only intelligent people love Lost, the rest of you writing you negative comments can go back to reading US Weekly and watching Dancing with the D-List Starts on Survivor Islands Biggest Losers with your Bachelor.

The rest of us will be enjoying the greatest written sci-fi drama of our generation.

  7. Seriously?

ejayp – Have you watched this series at all? Claire's baby (Aaron, remember him) was born within the first 2 seasons (I can't remember which one). And Jin and Sun's baby was born season 4, but conceived in season 3. How are these not characters we've been watching? And how could people not wonder about the role of children when the giant statue was of the Egyptian Goddess of fertility and protection, and the others couldn't have children on the island? It would only make sense.

Everyone in here needs to stop commenting, and start watching, or rewatching. I have read every comment and almost every single one asks a ridiculous question that they wouldn't have to ask if they simply WATCHED lost!

Ben, Miles, and Richard are currently finding a way to blow up the plane – the group split up a few weeks ago by the black rock when Hurley blew it up.

The ending will NOT be Sawyer saying that line to Jack on the beach. Why? Because it would ruin the line in the first place. That scene between Jacob (yes, Jacob, not Joshua for some) and the MIB was an incredibly powerful and important part of the series. Why would the writers want to cheapen it?

Any other questions? WATCH THE SHOW!!

    Two candidate lists exist:
    MIB's list in the cave
    Jacobs list at the lighthouse.

Was Kate crossed off of both or just MIB's?

Not sure why everyone wants unborn children (Clair & Jin's) to play a role in the ending of this series. I want the characters that we've been watching for 6 years to resolve the mystery.

I think all the characters will end up dying on the island one way or another, so they can continue to live in the new timeline that is going on in LA.
They can't be alive and get off the island and go to LA to see themselves... I think somehow Desmond will get them all together in LA, and they will figure out that they were all in an experience together... that those feelings of deja-vu are real.

Lost is in a category all by itself. Brilliant writing and acting. It commands our fullest attention to every detail in attempting to follow and encourage us to figure out the conclusion. No other TV show I've seen in my 69 years has ever done this. (Not even Dallas which I did not like). Everyone has their right to like or dislike, but please no namecalling one way or the other. In doing so you sound like you actually belong on the island. I also think it has Biblical/philosophical undertones; heaven/hell. My husband passed away last July, and he loved this show; and he told me to be sure to watch its conclusion. Can't wait to have all the seasons on DVD.

Making locke the smoke monster makes perfect sense. He was totally engrosses by the island and belived in it was in tune with it ,so it makes perfect sense that the man in black would take over him to get possibly the biggest opponent out of the way. I like the theory that jack and sawyer will be the only ones left except in sawyers alternate reality he is a good guy. I would have guessed sid would have taken the evil positon since he always wore black and was a murdeous sob so ya guess ill have to wait and see too

Lost is one of the greatest TV shows in a very long time. I've been a fan sense day one and thoroughly confused sense season 3, but I continue to watch because I enjoy the ride. I hate to see it end.

The additional 30 minutes is welcomed, but I agree most of that time will be filled with commercials. The Sunday airing of the final episode is not a big deal. Atleast there will be something good to watch on Sunday night for a change.

I agree with brandi having Jack and Sawyer replace Jacob and MIB is way to obvious for the plot twist and turns Lost is known for. I've often thought that the roles of good and evil would be reversed. MIB will turn out to be the good guy. I still want to know the origins of Jacob and Smokey and why they are on the island in the first place. I also hope we get the answer to who adam and eve really are or were.

I'm certain that many of us will be disappointed in the end because we won't get all of our burning questions answered. It would be great if Lost were made into a feature film to tie up all the lose ends once and for all.

To ABC and the writers and producers of Lost – it's nice to know there is still some real talent out there who can do better than another reality show. It's been a great ride!!

I am dismayed people are surprised that Sun and Jin died, it is going to happen to all but one. I think the Willy Wonka theme music in the one preview was a pretty good clue, it is dwindling down to one. The MIB needs the ones on the list to die, but he can’t kill them (as the young Aaron/Jacob mentioned) so he needs them to do it themselves.

Recall when Sun and Frank first wondered into the old Dharma camp, Christian (aka MIB) was there showing her where Jin was. He needed them together so Jin could sacrifice himself. Since Kate is off the list, either Hurley or Sawyer will sacrifice themselves for her. Not sure how Ben, Richard and Miles get back into it, but they most likely die along with the remaining Hurly/Sawyer in big battle with Whitemore crew.

Sideways Jack fixes Locke thus killing Locke/MIB and island Jack becomes Richard to Aaron and Claire’s playing of the white and black stone game.

Desmond gets sent over to sideways reality during said battle and gets everyone together for Hurley and Lizzie’s wedding where we learn Walt’s special ability allowed him to become a fertility specialist that invents a cure for infertile women.

Ok, I am going to tell you how part of the show will end, and I assure you, this is right. It also shows the power of good writing, and tying things together in a way that will leave you saying "it was THAT obvious? It makes so much sense! How did I not see that earlier!"

    Here ya go...

Smokey, Fake Locke, the Man In Black, whatever you want to call him, is, no matter his *apparent* harmlessness, commitment to Gilligan and the rest, and blunt honesty, is still a complete liar. He's been honest, but only in the sense that it all serves a greater lie in the end.

He tells the castaways they must all leave the island together or they just plain can't leave and go back to their happy little lives. And they all unblinkingly agree, for the most part. The rest, he convinces. And, what he's saying is true, in a sense. They all must be gathered together. But that's a lie. They only need to be gathered together so he knows very clearly they are all dead. And for him to leave the island, they must be. Or, more specifically, all potential Jacob-replacements must be dead, with no other candidate still existing.

All are candidates...but, with no successor to Jacob ever (officially) having been chosen, they are all replacements for Jacob, by default. He went from having one master he wished to kill in order to make his escape, to having many. He is, however, aware none of them have grasped this, or their power over him, and he is using that to his advantage, to lead them to situations that will – he hopes – lead to their deaths. As with Jacob, he can't kill them himself, but someone – or something – else can.

The Pilot, Miles, Jin or Sun, Kate, Ben, and every brief appearance by someone else – including Mac from it's Always Sunny", are just superfluous characters who advance the story in one way or another...but they are irrelevant to Smokey. They are tools, they are obstacles, but they are not beyond his ability to kill. Candidates are, because they, essentially, are now all Jacob.

Has anyone noticed that Lock on the island has an old scare on his right cheek below his eye, but not in the sideways universe? Last night after the show, it showed a clip of next weeks show of Lock playing the black white game. The scare for the first time is fresh! Somehow smokie is wounded! And why is the scar fresh next week, but not in the other episodes?

That was right after he WAS injured. He was playing that game with Walt. The scare is there because he took Lockes appearance – which includes the scare. It was a flashback to the season one episode. The sideways Locke OBVIOUSLY was not scared by a cut he received in the jungle of the island. If this is all too hard for you, just WATCH the show and don't post about it...

No reason to get too riled up over this. It is only a tv show. Yet, a very entertaining, intriguing and confusing show. The last epiosode will probably surpass the MASH finale as the most watched TV show, other than sporting events, in history.

My theory, everyone will show up at the hospital. Most are already there in their flash sideways. Jack, Locke, Jin, Sun, Claire, Desmond was there after chasing Charlie, who will probably end up there. Sawyer and Sahid are destined to be there for on thing or another. Still trying to figure out how Kate and Hurley find there way there.

Lost is a much hyped show. There have always been shows like this. Battlestar Galactica (the new BSG) was hyped too (though its LIGHT YEARS BETTER than Lost). In the end we were are let down by the ending. When shows get too hyped the endings are far from spectacular. I think in the end any viewer of Lost will be let down in some way.

Someone's probably already thought of this, but here's my theory...

I think Sun and Jin's daughter is Jacob's replacement. They have purposely been ambiguous about which "Kwon" is the intended one on the list candidates. Also, the episode where they were showing her pictures was called "The Final Candidate". She clearly has a connection to the island as she was conceived on the island, to a woman who couldn't have children – and was the only child conceived on the island to not kill its mother.

I think all the main characters are going to die and Sun and Jin's daughter is somehow going to make it back to the island.

Claire will help save the day because she didn't look too happy about the killing most of the people on the sub thing. As long as they tell me what's up with Desmond running around being crazy in the alternate reality I'm good. this show is extraordinarily simple to figure out. the whole show is based on the circles of hell, and "Dante's Inferno" .. look up both...if you read the wikipedia on dante's inferno, every person on the show matches exactly to one of the people in the play.

jacob is dante – guide who tries to take them all on a path to be saved

ben plays virgil – a guide who cannot prevent suffering

beatrice is personified by sun and jin...lovers who lost each other..umm hmm ;)

charon is the john locke (both as john and the smoke) – trying to drag each member to a lower level of hell

richard is minos – condemned to figure out what circle everyone belongs in..

the DARMA project was drilling for a packet of energy (lucifer) who is at the final circle...

This is how the series ends... everyone will eventually die on the Island... they will all "find" each other in the other timeline. The final shot will be all of the Lost characters seated or being seated on an Oceanic flight, leaving out of LAX. It brings the series full circle...and leaves us wondering IF they go back to the Island or just the next destination of the plane. I love it!!!!!!!!!

I am not hopeful. They are going to leave us with too many unanswered questions. I knew that they wouldn't answer all of them, but they haven't even answered a dozen questions we've had since season one. It's going to be disappointing. I don't think they'll give us enough to even speculate on.

And all the episodes are available on the ABC Player on the iPad.

I have this going in the background all day looking at episodes from the beginning and wondering if plot holes are intentional or just something someone wrote and said "someday we'll figure that out."

Don't know how long they'll keep these up, but it's kind of a fun distraction from work.

I'll admit a year ago I was thinking "time to end this," but now that it's a few episodes away...yeah, wish it had one more season.

Even though I'm very sad that "Lost" is going off the air, I congratulate the producers and writers, not to mention the amazing cast and crew, for giving their viewers something to think about. Why did they name the show " Lost?" Who is lost? What have they lost? Will they find what they have lost? Perhaps they are all part of a government experiment, hooked up to machines that are filtering into their minds the "plane crash, the island, all the other characters," and in the end, they all wake up. A perfect way for the show to end, with Jack opening his eyes, like in the very first episode. This scenario would deal with all the time/island hopping and would explain how they are all connected. That's just what I think, but at least this series has made all of us think outside the box.

The one thing I learned from English class was to see the broader meaning of the story and not get caught up in the specifics of the plot.

The message last night was that people are what kills other people; it's not always "acts of God". It's pretty clear to see how "people killing other people in the name of an omnipresent being" relates to what is going on in the world today and how senseless it is.

Furthermore, Jack's apathy represents how good people doing nothing allows evil to prevail. Plenty of examples of that in the world today and throughout history.

I am wondering if we will see Walt again. They seemed to make a big deal about his gift and then poof he is gone.
I think Jin, Sun, and Siad died because they are widdling down to the one replacement. I am voting for Hurley but it will probably be Jack.
Also I think the people in the "sideflash" are going to get together for some reason and they will all be killed!

The only reason why ABC gave more time to Lost is because then they didn't have to show "V" that evening and really tee off fans of the show so the network has an excuse to cancel it.

    Just a few thougts...

Where are Richard, Ben and Miles? Are they in the jungle playing rock, paper, scissors waiting for someone to find them?

I've seen A LOT of speculation on here that Jack and Sawyer take the places of Jacob and MIB. Wouldn't it be a hoot if Kate ended up as the new Richard? She's always been the go between with those two. Why not for eternity?

And since everyone pitched the Bob Newhart theory, why not the St. Elsewhere theory? Maybe Walt was "special" and it's all in his head and he was REALLY taken to a psych ward somewhere? Or maybe Desmond is the psycho one imagining it all?

No. I quit watching a long time ago because it never had anything making sense and left people hanging to get their next shot of Lost. I think they could do a final show in 15 minutes, but the advertisers and people making money off of it need the build up to get more addicts to watch the final show. For me ... stupid, and stupid is neither a good place to get stuck and is not curable. Sorry, but I actually read this article just to see where that dumb show was ending up.

Kate and Claire are the only two characters whose stories in the "alternate" timeline are pretty much the same as in the "original" timeline.

In both, Kate is a fugitive, on the run for murder, who was in custody on the plane.

In both, Claire is on the way to LA to have her baby and give it up for adoption.

    Any meaning in that????

    We'll see.

I quit watching the show over a year ago. Actually, I quit watching TV altogether. All I have now for entertainment is renting movies, music, the internet, and my hobbies. I acquire much of the "news" nowadays via the internet through a handful of sites, including this one. I got curious about how this series that had captivated my imagination one season and then lost me the next was getting on. AIl I have to state is that neither your entertainment nor enlightenment are relevant. It's all about ratings and ads. The writers have made enough money to retire comfortably. The actors can now move on to real acting projects. As for the ending, I'm predicting you'll have to line up a few months from now at your local video store to find out the whole "truth".

I like the idea that you have to die to get to the other reality,

    ___________________________________________________

I've never got that line of reasoning.

It's already been shown that everyone from the original time line is already in the alternate time line and that they can share memories. Why would they need to die? There's nothing left to "merge"

If a person dies, that person is just dead. Their other-dimensional selves live on in the other dimension regardless of what happens in the original time line.

Lost is biblical, mythological, philosophical, emotional, irrational, illogical, and much more. It capitvates you because of, and inspite of all this.
It plays with your mind, with your knowledge and that of countless others. It forces you to think, to question, to fantasize, to discuss. It's the meeting of thousands of minds debating the small and irrelevant, to the larger issues in the show, and in Life.
That, all of those who have lost(...) interest, or question the allure of the show, is what makes it so brilliant...!
It is all of this, and maybe its only purpose is to make us Think(instead of constantly being fed with "facts", or told what to think and feel), and therefore none of this.
I pray that I WILL get some closure to my many questions(since I've given it some years of my life! LOL), but will be satisfied with the bigger ones being answered, at least! ;o)

Last night's episode broke my heart. To see Sun and Jin go like that, was beautiful and horrible at the same time. Sayid had finally come back from the dark side, and gave proof once and for all, that he wasn't lost(...). Jack came back from his apathetic state, and got to be "Jack" again. Kate finally made up her mind(knowingly or not) whom she prefers and loves most of the two leading men, Hurley broke down, which made him more human and less..."Whatever, dude!".
But more importantly, seeing how few of our friends remain, is a stark reminder of how close we are to the end of the show, and...I'm torn, really. I cant wait, and yet I'd like to prolong the show with yet another season or so...! ;o))))

For those of you worried about Sun & Jin's daughter – remember Jin asked Sun if the girl was with Sun's mother – Sun said yes. Baby Kwon lost her parents, but she'll be raised in the family.

I like the idea that you have to die to get to the other reality, I hope they use that. It would be great to see Sun and Jin with their healthy newborn in the flash-sideways. That theory would also allow Claire to finally raise Aaron, if she dies on the Island.

There's a BIG clue from the end/start of last season and this season..... Juliet was the FIRST character 'killed' ..... but remember, she sent back a message through Hurley.. "it worked" ... meaning that if you 'died' you left the island. Between now and the end of the season, one-by-one, the main characters are going to be killed off. I think the real suprise will end up being who Jacob's replacement is. THAT will be the plot twist to the whole thing.... OR even more sinister.... super plot twist it to 'smokey' actually being the 'good' guy and Jacob being the 'evil' 'diety'.......... wouldn't THAT fry a lot of people's brains. Or better yet..... as smokey and the 'new' jacob are standing face to face.... they look up overhead and see a plane pass over and start to 'explode' ........

My thought is that Kate is going to be Joshua's replacement with Claire being Black Smoke's... Claire wants to get off the island but can't seem to and Joshua seemed to love Black Smoke even though Black wanted him dead, like Kate and Claire. It would be a great twist if Joshua crossed out Kate's name in the cave as a means to ensure her survival, or Black Smoke did... he was adament that Claire not kill Kate until after they got on the plane so she must be one of the candidates. The Island needs the balance. Last night Charles Widmore and his assistant (name escapes me) were not on the sub so they must be in the complex with the giant electro magnet that he used on Desmond. Desmond can see both sides of the realities so he is the doorway between, getting those on the other side to remember the Island side. I can see Desmond being the door as he can live through an EMP, Richard could also do that so maybe he is the lock that holds Black Smoke in (stopping him from getting off the island), If Richard dies I hope he sees his wife at the end and they go off together.. kind of Hallmarkish I know.

In the end Black Smoke has to die, Everyone combines on the Alternate Reality with family\friends\loved ones including Sayid, the timeline there is immediately after the original crash, but with all the memories\feelings from Island side which are years after the crash making them better people BUT Kate, the wanted fugitive stays on the Island side and Claire stays as well as something on the Alternate side makes her hate or despair (Like loss of the baby when Desmond does what ever he does to get them to see the Island side)...

I have a theory that the little boy on the island IS jacob. By the time the show ends the characters on the island will have helped him to defeat the man in black, the island will be sunk so that MIB cant come back, and Jacob will restore all the people back on oceanic flight 815 where they will land safely and resume their lives in the flash sideways like we have seen over the past 2 seasons. Their lives having been made better as a reward for helping him to defeat MIB.

The final scene will be Jack and Sawyer on the beach as the new "Jacob" and "Man In Black". Sawyer (MIB) saying to Jack (Jacob) "Do you know how much I want to kill you?" And Jack says "Yeah...I know......." with Michael Giacchino's score swelling to emotionally biblical perportions as we pull away from the island....up, ever further up into the air and we see another passenger plane heading in the direction of the island, and we suddenly realize what "It only ends once, everything else before that is just progress" truly means! And.....SCENE!

    Food for thought:

When Hera discovered that Leto was pregnant and that Zeus was the father, she banned Leto from giving birth on "terra firma", or the mainland, or any island. In her wanderings, Leto found the newly created floating island of Delos, which was neither mainland nor a real island, so she gave birth there. The island was surrounded by swans. Afterwards, Zeus secured Delos to the bottom of the ocean. This island later became sacred to Apollo.

What if it ends with Locke walking into the diner Tony Soprano is eating in? Would 3 million heads explode simultaneously?

P.S. what a brilliant concept by the writers of lost. They take theories that are way out there: time travel, body possession, alternate universes, etc. and make a show out of it. It's a writer's dream come true. Because we all understand so little about these things, loopholes abound and plot issues can be resolved. Didn't like how that character died? Oh that ok we'll have him reappear in this alternate universe. Plot turn isn't what the fans liked? It's cool we'll make them go to another point in time and redo it. It reminds me of when you were a kid and read those "Choose your own adventure" books and kept your finger on the decision page and skipped ahead to the results. If the answer sucked, you just went back and tried again. They've done this for 6 years. Brilliant.

I also believe that the best name for fans of Lost is not "Losties"... I think "Losers" is much better... I include myself in that and mean it only in an affectionate way.

I think the flash sideways aren't really sideways... i think they all get off the island but somehow their memories are erased. For instance the whole Hurley and Libby reunion and their kiss made hurley remember things that happened on the island...or Charlie and Desmond remembering things, or an unconcious Locke last night mumbling how he should have pushed the button and Jack should believe him. So I think the plane did crash and their memories are all fuzzy but as they are reunited with more people from flight 815 it starts to all come back to them...how it all ends I guess we will all find out

I will be LOST without LOST but I know that this all needs resolved. I have, in ,y mind, had Jacob represent the Good and then the Bad and then back to Good again...only because things aren't always what they seem. I am so sad that Jin and Sun's baby is now an orphan. But I guess if they had to die it is best that they die together. How will it end? Hopefully evil will still be restrained on the island and those remaining will live forever keeping the smoke monster in check.

The fact that Lost finale is going to be 2.5 hours is great. This has really been a well made show. I think the whole point of the show is to replace Jacob in order to keep the smoke monster on the island. I forget the exact qutoe, but Jacob said in an earlier show (maybe last season) "i wonder if this group is going to do it." Meaning that this has all happened before with different people. Most likely, the people who's names are crossed off in the cave/lighthouse. I think that everybody will die except for one person (probably the last name that isnt crossed out), which will be Jack. Also a possibility is Jack's son, Kate/Clair's son, or the Kwon child. Didnt it seem like clair's son would be the second coming or something when he was born?

What if the island is really in their minds – like in Arnold Schwarzeneggers "Total Recall" when they were able to take "vacations in their heads"? Some kind of therapy the characters undertake to work out mental stress/disorders resulting from trauma they have experienced in their lives. Some of the "constants" like Richard and Jacob are "planted" in the characters' memories to provide some sort of guidence through their issues?

Mr. Widemore needs to die a horrible death. And you know that everyone in the alternate world will realize they are uniquely destined to be brought together (but for what celestial purpose?).

Lost has been and still is some of the best writing on television. It incoporated a number of theories (number theory, six degrees of separation, time travel, parallel universes, good vs. evil, etc.) and blended them all well. Those who are screaming for the end of the show or stopped watching it after season two are those who want everthing layed out for them and don't want to have to think for themselves. I am not looking forward to the end because the story lines just keep getting better and better. And I would bet good money that there will be a movie to follow.

No doubt they will have to use that extra 30 minutes to explain the previous two hours. I remember the days when storytelling was good enough to stand on its own, without extra lengthy explanation. Seriously, when will people wake up and realize that the reason this show is so convoluted is because the writing is non existent? This show has been trying desperately to hide its lack of content by wrapping it up in confusion and needless complexity. I "LOST" interest after the first 30 minutes of the first episode.

I would be happy to have all unanswered questions answered. What happened to the polar bears? I thought children could not be born on the island. Where did those kids come from when the smokemonster made everyone decide whose side to be on? Why does everyone have an unending supply of bullets for their guns – and who taught the scientists to shoot? Where did Desmond come from?

I have watched the show from day 1 and have loved every show. I think if you stopped watching the show, you couldn't grasp the concept of a show with so many layers and unanswered questions. It has been fascinating and something I would like to see more of on tv. I watch very little on tv, but I am hooked on Lost. A show that makes you think! Imagine that!!

I need to sit down and have a weekend Lost marathon when it is all over, just so I can try to grasp more of what I missed the first time around.

Please, writers, please, don't let the ending be just a bad dream. It was hysterical to have it done on Newhart, but us fans have years invested in these characters and have come to care for them.

Last night's episode was heartbreaking, although you had to know that at least a few of the main characters weren't going to make it to the finale. As for everyone complaining that the extra 30 minutes will be filled with commercials, you usually get 75% content and 25% commercials for every timeslot, whether it be a half hour or an hour. So we'll probably get about 21 minutes or so of content out of that extra half hour. Even if it's less, it's still better than nothing.

Does anyone really care about that anymore? I sure don't. I do agree with the idea that the "real" Locke will reappear on the island somehow. As for Sayid, if it was him (and not Jacob using one of Old Smokey's tricks against him), then at least his character was redeemed before the end, which offers hope for Claire. Obviously the writers don't either, so they added more time. Somebody must have told them...."hey, you forgot to explain this and that and then some."

This was a show about characters, mystery, etc. then they sucked the life out of the show this season. Who really cares about Jin and Sun dying now? All the characters that we know and loved were marginizalized in favor of this MIB and Jacob crap. If you cried when they died, you're just an idiot or over medicated. Good thing Terry O has played MIB all season. Imagine how much more this season would suck if the MIB actor was playing that part all season.

All the stations, all the mythology, all the characters introduced and featured in episodes just to be killed off and never play any real role.

How does Jack find Anthony Cooper in minutes while the detective Sawyer spends his whole life and can't find him right down the street.
Why is the MIB(who never left the island) an explosives expert? How does Sawyer survive an unconscious swim? Why is everyone's hair always perfect(except Claire of course) and beards nicely groomed.
How does Kate swim through the ocean with a bullet wound and not suffer any pain? Why didn't the Dharma shark eat her?

I think someone could publish a book of several hundred pages featuring line after line of questions for which the answers will remain "lost".

I think it would a lot of fun if they ended the show the way Bob Newhart ended his "Newhart" show, where he woke up in bed with Suzanne Pleshette on his old show "The Bob Newhart Show". But in the case of Lost they should have Matthew Fox (Jack) wake up in his bed on "Party of Five" with Scott Wolf and Neve Campbell standing by his bed and he looks at them and says, "I just had the craziest dream." Of course it's a complete ripoff but it would be fun.

I agree with other posters of the good/bad, positive/negative, light/dark. The island is their negative existence and the alter-reality is the positive one that everyone is happy in, even Kate in her handcuffs. Maybe the island is the gateway to both heaven and hell – maybe they were all killed in the crash and are fighting battle between good and evil and if good wins they will be in their alter-reality and vice versa. I think Jack is going to be the sole survivor because he knows he can't leave the island and everyone else is killed off the island goes on to survive in the good place.

We don't care about when or why you stopped watching the show! It's a once in a lifetime show that people who do watch the show should just sit back and enjoy...not critique to death.

Jacob and Smokey are "good & evil". Jacob was sent to the island to make sure that Smokey was kept there. Smokey can't get off the Island as long as people are there, That's why Lock wants everyone to travel as a group so that he gets everyone off, then the Island will sink.

I predict that everything on the island happened, but they find a way to undo it all or go back in time. Their real lives are the alternate scenarios they keep showing. They somewhat "remember" bits and pieces of their "pasts" on the island, which is why they all feel connected.
I could be way off, but that's the base of my prediction.

I received the Blu Ray's (Season's 1-5) for Christmas last year. I'd never seen a second of this show before that (not that I wouldn't give the show a chance, its just that broadcast television isn't really my thing – too many commercials constantly pulling me out of the experience. I find most shows – if not all shows – on broadcast television to be painful to watch so I don't tune in – HBO & Showtime are more my thing for shows.)
Anyways I watched the entire series before the Season 6 premiere and I have to say: LOST is quite simply one of the greatest story's ever to be written. Kudos to the writers and the cast (Especially Terry O'Quinn, Henry Ian Cusik, & Michael Emerson), and Michael Giacchinno for making some of the greatest music ever to grace the small screen.
Sad that it has to end (But the best one's do – see BSG & Deadwood)
But with story arc's so deep you could drift away for days – never has there been a more re-watchable piece of work. FANTASTIC!!!!!

Also, I was thinking about the names of the candidates – and it only said KWON and they were acting like they didn't know which one they meant – and I know this is stretching it – but there is another KWON – their daughter. But whatever happens, happens. I just feel lucky I was along for the ride. And as far as getting answers go – we'll never really who the subject is of Carly Simon's "You're So Vain" either. I'm super excited for the finale and sad at the same time. FInally a show with intelligence on TV and it has to end, inevitably to make room for more crappy reality shows like Dancing with The Bachelor Idol on Survivor Biggest Losers. But anyways, the long finale leads me to believe that they will finish this show in a way that will make the dedicated and smart viewers very happy, but still leave you wondering just a little (in true Lost style).

As far as the person making the comment about ABC and commercials....they are charging $900,000 for commercials which makes this the super bowl of geek cult shows. That being said just shows how important this show is, at least for those of us who have loved and studied it since day one. We will never get another show like this since the majority of America only wants to see how fast people can spin in a circle for one minute other than watch a drama with great writing, great characters and a plot that needs to be thought about.

I believe that Jin and Sun needed to die, but it was still not in vain since they were not going to be the final candidates. I always thought it would be Hurley or Jack and who knows what Lost has up its sleeves since things aren't always what they seem, but I cannot wait to find out. Thank you ABC for keeping on such an amazing show that didn't make me feel like I was losing brain cells, but instead gave me hope that there are people out there like my fiance and myself that can find enjoyment in a sci-fi drama with the greatest plot lines ever written.

Since after the 3rd Season, they show has just gone way down hill and I'm only watching to see how they wrap it up. The intrigue has gone by the wayside to just plain weird. The earlier flash/forward-back episodes when they first began were very interesting and things started tying together. Now, it has gone to completely torn apart the story line to make things just plain confusing and makes you think the writers really had no idea where this was going all along the past 2 seasons. I'll watch it to completion at this stage in the process, but if there was anothe season, I wouldn't be tuning in anymore. It's kind of turned into this seasons American Idol, a complete flop and nothing really interesting.

I think at some point they all have to die – how can you live in two parallel universes – return to real live and co-exist. They have to die on the island – that is their LOST souls – their old souls that were negative. In real life through each other – and their flashes (that have never happened) become better persons! But that is just my opinion.

After last night's episode, I feel that I have wasted the last 5 years watching this show! The writers did a complete nose dive this season! First, they made Locke the smoke monster (which does not make any sense) and instead of wrapping things up in a great way (they way they could've and should've), they create more useless questions. Locke being the smoke monster is laughable. There is no way they are going to be able to wrap this up in a way that satisfies all of the mysteries they presented over the series. For instance, whatever ever happended to Walt? What was the signaficance of him and his "gifts"?

Detroit2010, please don't use the word "vanilla" to describe dull and boring. REAL vanilla is an exotic, wonderful taste; it's just that it is expensive, so "vanilla" products in the US have little real vanilla, some fake vanilla, and all watered down to the LCD. Kind of like most TV programming. Lost represents REAL vanilla – exotic, complex, hard to find, expensive (in terms of time invested), and totally worthwhile.

The Witmoore's charity event may be the cornerstone of the ending. Charles W was adamant about getting Charlie to the event because he needs to gather all that have ever been on the island at a moment in time to break the cycle of some circular reality. The physicist's wife of CW in the parallel universe is consciously trying to ensure Desmond does not break through to recalling the island's reality before it is time.

Somehow CW will succeed in getting them off the island, including Sayid, Jin and Quan, in the next three episodes. Hurley's ability to see those that have died also hints to bringing back to life those that were lost on the island.

Just a guess. Love the show for sparking this kind of creative thinking and enjoyment....shoes....

For all the people so upset with the dearly departed Sun, Jin, Sayed and Frank. I say this, go watch a romantic comedy! The no sacred cows/characters is what made LOST such a great show to begin with. Also, I think that all of the characters on the Island are going to die in the end, with the exception of Jack, who it appears will be the next Jacob. On the flip side, I think all the dead characters are still alive in the sideway life's, which makes me wonder what will happen to Jack's sideways alter-ego back off the Island. hmm????

I think both timelines are 'correct'. The break-off or fork for the timelines occurred because Locke's dad did not become a 'butthead' (maybe when he was in the plane crash with Locke), which set everything up for the island line.

My personal opinion is that Locke is going to come back to Jack and get "fixed" which will change Locke so he does not turn into the Smoke Monster. Then...I believe that Sayid, since he is now dead, will become the new Smokey...and that the final showdown between good and evil will be between Sayid and Hurley (not Jack as people suspect). Hurley is one of the most important parts of the show in my opinion...and I feel that they are going to escalate his role into that important one. Locke and Jack are too obvious...it's going to be two other people who do the bidding for evil v. good.

It's pretty clear the new "reality" will be the Los Angeles parallel timeline. There's no way they can kill off so many loved cast members without having them come back in the end. 30 minutes more means that many more commercials worked into the evening.

While clearly the Sidways World is important, I hope you're guess isn't correct. That harkens to the Bob Newhart ending and is way too lazy for my liking.

Personally, I think the ending will involve Jack's "curing" Sideways Locke. This will somehow cast out Smokey.

Jack becomes Jacob's replacement but, with Sayid's statement last night ("you're the one") I now think that's too obvious for the writers.

To the people who don't watch or haven't watched the show in years, why are you even posting your opinion? You don't have an informed opinion at all, because you don't watch the show. If you said "I think the show should end because..." and it was based on how you felt about what you've viewed, then it's fine. However when you post something which you don't know anything about, it becomes a completely invalid opinion...and frankly, who cares about that? You're just a waste of space.

Especially to "shoes" who said "we quit watching it after the 2nd season". Then what are you doing here on these forums other than wasting peoples' time and your own energy? I wish people had half a brain to save their opinions on things that they actually had information on. If the show was two seasons long I would welcome your input, but you're YEARS behind and you don' tknow anything anymore, because you don't watch.

It hasn't been the most "hyped program ever produced". Clearly you never watched or you don't remember all the famous mini-series or long running programs that were on TV. Dallas, Friends, MASH, The Ed Sullivan Show, I Love Lucy, AMERICAN IDOL, etc, etc. The list goes on. TV shows and series' that were hyped many times over than the amount of attention Lost has received. Again, youre opinion is horribly useless and based on nothing whatsoever.

To me, having watched every episode, I understand some of the current viewers' trepidations about the ending of the show. But you know what? We're all going to watch anyway, because Lost has such a uniqueness to it, anyone who has invested any time in watching it is most likely very interested in seeing how it ends. Aside from "loose ends" which I'm guessing your attention span and intellectual capacity can't fathom, it's still a story. I'm interested to see how the story ends, whether I'm disappointed or not. I'll be watching. I'm glad the finale is 2.5 hours and I'll enjoy watching it no matter how it comes to close. The writers and producers have captivated my interest from day one because of the originality, creativity and debatable plot lines no matter how "good" or "bad" they are to some people.

I really feel sorry for some people in this country who don't appreciate unique and different entertainment and programming. Why anyone would want to settle for the lowest common denominator programming, is beyond my comprehension. To those of you who think Lost is a waste of time, I'm guessing you enjoy the most boring, vanilla and uninteresting entertainment. You probably want your weekly shows to have a beginning, middle and end all in 40 minutes each week. You're probably the audience who actually buys tickets to movies like "Weekend At Bernies 4". You're probably the type of person who actually doesn't watch a show but posts an opinion anyway. I wish you'd get "Lost" actually.

The show's ending...all my hopes are out the window.. :(

I still don't think we're going to find out why the plane was dropping supplies 20 years after the Dharma crew died..lol but if we can find out why they were trying to get children born on the island, or why dharma was there in the first place, i'll take it.

It doesn't make more hopeful. It makes me realize ABC wants to add more commercials.

After last night's episode, I am "lost". How could Sun and Jin be taken away? Their love story made the show fuller. And then Jahid? Wazzup? Pilot Lapidus seemed always destined for a trip to the other side. I will miss Sun and Jin.
