Big changes for 'So You Think You Can Dance'

The collective gasp you heard yesterday came from many hardcore fans of Fox's "So You Think You Can Dance," when judge/executive producer Nigel Lythgoe announced some major changes to the show's format.

For the past several days, Lythgoe had been tweeting a few hints as to what they had in store for season seven: No more top 20 dancers, partners would change each week... but no one could have predicted the big bombshell to come.

Lythgoe announced to his Twitter followers (and in a conference call to reporters) that the reason that there will no longer be a top 20 is that the top 10 dancers would be paired up with some all-stars from past seasons. "The dancers will change partners each week picked from an 'All-Star Pool.' Each 'All-star' will be a specialist in specific genres of dance," he said.

The show is called “Dancing With the Stars,” but it was more like “Bickering with the Celebrities” on last night’s episode as tensions grew between the contestants and their professional dancing partners.

Once again, the biggest drama seemed to follow Kate Gosselin who was shown arguing with her partner Tony Dovolani during the rehearsals for their jive, prompting him at one point to quit and walk out of the room. (He later returned, calling it a weak moment.)

“Nothing in dancing is natural to Kate,” Dovolani said, perhaps foreshadowing the actual performance in which Gosselin often appeared lost, unable to remember the steps, and constantly looked at Dovolani for direction. FULL POST

'Somewhere Down the Road' for Amy Grant

Amy Grant’s new CD, which releases today, is not so much a collection of old and new as it is a microcosmic look at a career that includes success on the pop and Christian charts, she says.

The album originally was intended to be a catalog release, that is, mostly previously released songs with a few new songs sprinkled in, but Grant, who said she is still constantly writing and recording, said the album evolved as the song selection process went along.

EMI, the record label that owns her catalog of songs, wanted to pair three new songs with nine from her prior work that echoed the journey through life. But Grant kept coming up with new material that she pitched to EMI. FULL POST

(CNN) - Actress June Havoc, whose career began on a vaudeville stage as Baby June 95 years ago, died Sunday at 97, according to her manager.

Havoc's adult career included success on Broadway, television and film, but she was often overshadowed by her sister, the stripper Gypsy Rose Lee.

The story of how her headstrong mother traveled the vaudeville circuit with her young daughters became the basis for the classic musical "Gypsy."

Havoc's last TV acting job was in 1990 on the soap opera "General Hospital."

Ricky Martin has released the following statement on his website:

A few months ago I decided to write my memoirs, a project I knew was going to bring me closer to an amazing turning point in my life. From the moment I wrote the first phrase I was sure the book was the tool that was going to help me free myself from things I was carrying within me for a long time. Things that were too heavy for me to keep inside. Writing this account of my life, I got very close to my truth. And this is something worth celebrating. FULL POST
