You must have either been drinking or under the influence of drugs when you watched both of these pictures (The Hurt Locker & Avatar), either that or you didn't watch either of them. The Hurt Locker had zero plot and what is worse is that its screenplay was simply horrible. Avatar is an OLD story, but presented in a different and unqiue way with an imagination that is far beyond what most could imagine. The film making was innovative & creative and yes even ground-breaking in some respects. For Hurt Locker, I really couldn't even tell where the beginning was and where the end was, just a bunch of soldiers blowing things up. No sorry, between the two of them Avatar was clearly the better movie and not because of its ticket sales or revenue, but because it told an old story in a unique and creative fashion and most of all because it entertained. This is why it should have won, because it is and was entertaining, not because it is the biggest money maker in cinema history, and that is what the motion picture industry is all about – entertainment.
Dear Rhye and all the poor people who think that Avatar is a good movie. It is a over glorified TV show with way too many special effects. James Cameron is a hack and a year from now the phenomanon you think of now will be perspective. Hurt Locker is art Avatar is rehashed story with amazing effects. It got all the awards it will ever deserve. Selling tickets doesn't mean best movie it just means an amazing number of stupid people with not taste or sense of what quality.
I'm very happy that UP won as well as Sandy as Best actress! All the winners are deserving except The Hurt Locker and Bigelow! I hate it! It should be Avatar and Cameron. Avatar is extraordinary and exceptional than the Hurt Locker.
Can't people just love one another??? I'm a proud African American Woman... and yes I'm proud that MONIQUE won.... Black or White if we were to cut up under our skin we all bleed red.... Please pray to God that he take whatever racism you have out of your hearts!!! You would sleep much better at night. You may even realize that your life would be good too if you stop being so EVIL!
Christoph Waltz stole every scene he was in, and in a Tarantino movie that says a whole heckuva lot.. Excellent. That award is in the right hands..
Who cares about Best Picture Oscar. The folks of AVATAR as laughing all the way to the bank. It would have been a nice feather in the cap though.
Also, to everyone saying money should be considered when choosing the best picture, then Harry Potter, Ice Age, Transformers, 2012, and Twilight should have been nominated, too.
By that rationale, the Backstreet Boys should have won handfuls of Grammys, and so should have Britney Spears, because they've sold millions and millions of albums.
How can anyone claim Avatar is original? It's a story that's been told 100s of times! It's Fern Gully meets Dances with Wolves! And if pretty pictures and images make for the best movies, then Transformers should have been nominated. Did anyone notice there weren't any acting awards for Avatar? You know why? Because the acting was awful and laughable. The first hour was fun to look at it, but, Jesus, the story was horrible!
I don't care what race Monique is. Her character and actions speak for themselves, she is a self righteous, obnoxious, woman who has no manners, tact or talent. It's sad that some might see her as a representation for black people!!!!!!!!!!!
i think the next Oscars at-least 5 to 6 million viewers should boycott the show that will send the message home to the Oscars to stop favoring politics and concentrate on entertainment that's what they do not try to sell war for the politicians and men that sell arms. the real question is who got payed off at the Oscars to vote the war movie in as best picture and director.
whoa...Sandra Bullock won...I'm happy for her...I really have to see the Blind SIde...for some reason I failed to catch it...
Anyways, why all the hate on Mo'nique...? Yeah she may not be you drop dead size zero dream girl, but she's got talent...just try to be happy for someone's success at least once in your life...
It's amazing to me that someone saying "fat black slob" gets vilified in these posts as an evil racist. Sure, the comment may be insensitive and rude, but it doesn't make someone a racist. I can't watch cable TV without stumbling on a black comedian making jokes about "skinny white bitches" and "white people," which sends the black audience into roars of laughter. Yet I don't ever hear anyone, including white people, calling those comedians racists - or insensitive, for that matter.
Neither "Hurt Locker" nor "Avatar" have captured my heart, and it seems you guys should check with the you-tube community more, about what real good movies are about. "Avatar" is supposed to be groundbreaking or visualy renewing? I don't think so, as most computer games have better graphics & stories these days. Mostly a waste of money if you ask me, if you see what simple independent studios all over the world are doing. Is the win for "Hurt Locker" deserved? Well, it is atleast a controversial win, something the "Oscars" have become famous about. Prediction for next year's big winner: Tim Burton's Alice!
Why does it surprise anyone that the Academy showered its most precious (no pun intented) awards on movies like The Hurt Locker and Precious? Does anyone remember 1977 when the first Star Wars film was nominated for 10 awards, winning 7, but NOT Best Picture? Annie Hall took the award that year and although Annie Hall was a decent movie, it wasn't even close Star Wars as far as something that was ground-breaking, leading edge, would change the film business for years to come, innovative/creative and above all entertaining, wanting you to go back to the theatre again and again to see it. Avatar is this years equivalent to the 1977 Star Wars. Cameron already has his awards for Titanic, which, in my opinion wasn't that good either, not the likes of a Star Wars or an Avatar. The Academy doesn't award the best picture any more, they have completly lost touch, but this has been going on for years. For those who think Avatar got screwed, well your not in the club alone, it was not only the Best Picture of 2009, but probably the Best Pictur since Lord ot the Rings – Return of the King and remember Lord of The Rings (the last installment) actually broke the mold of Hollywood, before LOTR there hadn't been a Fantasy/Sci Fi picture ever to win Best Picture and it took the making of three of them in installments to do this. Hollywood is into Hollywood, they don't really care what is popular or not or what the biggest box office is, they simply can't bring themselves to award a picture that is in that genre (Fantasy/Sci Fi), no matter how creative or entertaining or money making it is. I was fortunate, I saw all 10 of the nominees this year in theatres, I saw two of these; UP and AVATAR more than once. The Hurt Locker was okay, but I would rate it as an average picture. I liked Blindside, UP and Avatar. I thought the rest were second tier pictures and still do. I'm glad Bridges and Bullock won and I'm happy a woman finally got Best Director, but to award Hurt Locker Best Picture was just sad. I will certainly continue to go to movies, but I will no longer watch or be interested in the Academy Awards because they are simply meaningless, they have just become an excuse for the Hollywood elite the dress up and party, thinking they have done something magical by awarding sub standard performances and pictures.
What a disgraceful Academy Awards that was!
The Academy (And it certainly wasn't Plato's!) really did play it safe this year in terms of how they nominated / voted.
The hosts and the jokes were completely sexist, racist, and homophobic to say nothing of completely mean-spirited and insensitive and I've never seen worse.
Sandra Bullock wins Best Actress over all of those other more talented actresses and nuanced performances?
You have got to be kidding me and it looked like even Sandra herself realized how rigged, ridiculous, and biased her win was given the talent and roles of her competition. It's not that she couldn't or shouldn't win for something but this just wasn't the one and was just another covertly racist movie about Noble White People saving Black People from themselves. It's like a time-warp back to Julia Roberts winning for playing Erin Brockovich.
Hollywood seems to have a love affair with sassy blond southern women fighting evil and winning without actually engaging in real feminism that shakes-up the status quo.
"The Hurt Locker" winning was a slight surprise and felt extremely calculated and political but I can live with it.
I still think Avatar should have one a bit more.
Avatar looks like it took 12 years to make. Hurt Locker looked like it was filmed in the desert someplace in two weeks. Probably wasn't even Iraq. A repetitive, dull movie about an adrenaline junkie beat the epitome of what you go to the movies for. Hollywood is always for the underdog, but this time, the champion deserved the title.
Hurt Locker better than Avatar? Ha! My ass. A producer who cheats and is now getting sued. Good movie alright.
Congrats to Monique, I haven't seen Precious yet but I still love that joke, "Pam! Pam Pam!" I'm always impressed when a comedian wins an oscar because they seem to do it with ease, like Jamie Foxx in Ray, all they need is the right dramatic role. Haven't seen Crazy Heart, Jeff Bridges is a solid actor who pretty much always delivers.
Hurt Locker???? Best Picture????!!!!
You've got to be kidding me....It wasn't even the best "Non-Avatar" nominee.... it was a mediocre movie at best (as far as Oscar nominated films go), just another typical "Hollywood" war movie by some clueless non-combatant.
Wow... maybe the crazy cynics were right and the whole thing IS rigged.
Saw Oscar Awards after many years, will never see it again. It is a disconnect with the masses.
Hurt Locker over Avatar for best picture is arogant and obnoxious and moronic on the part of academy voters. Why don't they like JC? Avatar has a world wide gross of $2,600,000,000 while Hurt Locker is $21,000,000. Avatar has grossed more than 100 times as much as Hurt Locker. Avatar has been in theaters for a little less than 3 months while Hurt Locker has been in the theaters for a little less than 9 months. So, let's see, Avatar has grossed 125 times as much in one third the time. Well, of course then, it shouldn't win best picture. If Best Picture does not coincide somewhat with what the people who pay for movies like then it makes no sense. I have a news flash for the academy volters: If we don't like the movie you don't get to make it. Maybe the public voting with its money should carry a little more weight in the Best Picture category.
weak choice on Hurt Locker for Best Pix. Up in the Air and Nine (which was totally robbed) were much better movies. Don't get me wrong, Hurt Locker was good – just not THAT good.
Best Actor to Jeff Bridges!!???!!!??? Very weak. George Clooney was at least better but would should have happened is Daniel Day Lewis get nominated and win for Nine.
Best Actress should have gone to Meryl or Helen – hands down. Sandra is very nice but doesn't stack up talent-wise.
@ Sharzniqua (I know that's a white person posing as black)
You can always tell when someone hateful get's on to pretend to be black. Writing I's. I saw right through it with the name and the comment. Stick to the subject. This blog should be about the awards and the show.
How did the top grossing movie of all time not win best picture?
What about foreign films? Milk of Sorrow should have won.
Its no possible, such an animal like this woman to get the oscer.
Best picture 'The Hurt Locker' is not deserving. AVATAR is so many times more original, unique and required much more skills to produce.
Best Picture IS AVATAR... too bad our military influnces the academy.
The awards have become a joke. It really shouldn't have even been close. Avatar was ABSOLUTELY FREAKING AMAZING. Pretty good story line, very good acting and awesome effects.
The moment I got out of the theater, I wanted to go back in and see it again before it leaves the theaters.
While I didn't see the Hurt Locker in the theaters, there is NO WAY it would have compared... NONE. I fell asleep at home watching it. It was an okay movie, but nothing that said "must see" to me. And the military movies have been over-done the past decade or so anyway. Hurt Locker was a decent movie that had me feeling like I've already seen it before... similar to other military movies.
Then again, why should this be a surprise? It seems almost every year, the movie that is far and away the best movie... ends up 2nd. Perhaps it's all about the "surprise factor"??? That's gotta be it... because there really is no other explanation. 70 out of every 100 people would tell you Avatar is the picture of the year. So how is it that the minority ends up deciding it?
Shame on members of the academy for proving that the award can be awarded on other things then the merit of quality acting.
Hurt Locker was a mere DVD rental for me.
Best Director, not more a nod to Women
Best Picture, Hello?!? AVATAR blew me away and I'm ashamed to be Human, our future is very grim. AVATAR is the wake up call about it all my friends!
Waltz really caught my attention about acting in Inglourious Basterds. very very good, what a very calm person his acceptance speect in oscar. Well deserving
Avatar was robbed!
Kathryn Bigelow also directed one of the best action films of all time:
The directing for The Hurt Locker was not overrated at all, maybe the movie was but it was the only real movie made this year. Congrats to Sandra Bullock, I'm looking forward to The Blind Side on dvd but the real Michael Oher looks mean and the guy in the movie looks like a big teddy bear so I decided to wait. The Razzies is such a joke, they stole publicity from Sandra Bullock, she shouldn't have honored that. I didn't see All About Steve but how much worse than all those types of movies could it be, really? The fact that Gamer didn't win every Razzie award shows what a gimmick it is.
the hurt locker was typical silly hollowood. all the bad guys sneeered while soldiers went around dumber/crazier than melted camel dung. the director learned her lessons well from her ex-husband. and his movie looked great but was sillier than hers.
and, how can you have the best actor in a movie that was not nominated for much of anything?
Okay! but the not greatest show. Disappointing, was expecting more from Alex and Steve.
America is a big continent and the US is just another country. So first, please talk correctly. The fact that have been taken as the same during time doesnt mean its correct.
The US is not the world. We are all humans living on this planet with common and particular issues. Films are arts that can depict profound human conditions. As such, there is nothing wrong in having a recognition to the best foreign film by pairs in the film industry in the US, as it happens during the Oscar ceremony award. At least people in the film industry is not entirely closed up to things going on in the US. A good film is a good film as a good person is a good person, doesnt matter from where it comes or their appearance.
I am very glad for both Kathryn Bigelow and The Hurt Locker. I think it was a great film and Bigelow is well deserving of this award.
@ go women... I would be too, if I felt like she deserved it. As a women I would rather see a man when then a women win for a movie that shouldn't have been in the running
The hurt locker winning best pic is pure bull! that movie did not have even a third of the power as avatar. i hate the way the academy tries to act like movies that are "eh" are spectacular. inglorious basterds was a better war movie.
Well said Charmaine. This board is fairly appalling.
In the spirit of discussing racism, I will mention that anyone who voted for Obama JUST because he is black is a racist – choosing someone based solely on skin color is the very definition of racism. As so many have admitted to choosing him for the color of his skin vs. the promises made in his rhetoric, innovative ideas, leadership or any other much-needed qualities intrinsic to running the most complex country in the world, we would be perpetuating racism to choose Obama again or another black president JUST because he is black. Here's a novel idea: let's choose the most qualified person to run our country, regardless of race, gender or even sexual orientation. Perhaps some of our problems could be solved by someone with a brain and some common sense.
Lula or whatever your name is, your internet "shorthand" is ridiculous. I'm feeling doubtful about a BS in English Literature given that "ur sntncs" are very difficult to interpret with little logic in their shorthand, and you begin sentences with the word "But" (very bad grammar). Besides, educated adults write in an educated manner unless conversing with teenyboppers with little of subtance to say.
The Academy Awards needs to decide what it is - a critics choice award show or a show that showcases what was best about last year. I was very reluctant to see Avatar but did - what a surprise - I loved it. Surely one of the prerequisits for being a "best picture" is that it has had to been seen by a good lot of the "paying audience". The Hurt Locker was not - it stuck around for what a month at the most and disappeared. People went to see Avator not once, or twice but three or four times - that has to say something. If you are going to nominate 10 movies in order to pull in the public then please don't trick us into believing that perhaps the "politics" of the Academy Awards has changed. Today you proved it didn't. All those "big budget movies" that make the studios money to allow for those "smaller art films" still have a slim chance of winning.
noakz – totally wrong – Hurt Locker was great and better than anything Avatar could imagine! The hatred out here is horrible and disgusting.
LOL so nice that that piece of trash Avatar didn't win
Well, looks like the Academy Awards has lost all credibility. How they could give "best picture" to anything other than the highest grossing picture of all time is beyond me. Don't get me wrong... I like "hurt locker" too... but is was NO "Avatar"... not even close.
Shame shame Academy!
un-freaking-believable. I cannot believe that the most visually stunning movie in history, with tight writing and a decent story line was overlooked for yet another movie glorifying the brutality of war.
The Academy clearly got this wrong.
Supporting actor should have gone to.........................anyone but ..................
OMG anyone watching the live aftershow?? Monique is just full of herself, how sad. The movie is being overshadowed by her ego.
the oscars are officially devoid of all class. no one is going to remember 'the hurt locker' in 20 years except for 'oh, was that the movie nobody ever saw or gave a crap about' ? they've gotten really bad with their best picture/best director wins lately.
sorry to Oscars. Another well done USA governments show. Say NO to war ... we don't need a movie for that. It is a waste of my time to watch such a result. Will never watch Oscars again.
Also, playing "I am Woman" when she won for the Best Director showed their hippie bias. If one of the guys had won, do you think they'd play a pro-guy song? Nope. Peace out hippies.
I think ALL award shows are NOTHING but fashion shows,& who's who and who's with who, and who has a babybump, and who's holding who's hand, and that's it.. they are worthless wastes of time.. in this materialistic society, I'm guessing this crap is JUST what the doctor ordered.. too bad that dr. wasn't "kervorkian"
no offense to hurt locker but - james cameron shoul have won best director and best movie. Obviously the peole who voted have NO IDEA what goes into making an epic movie like Avatar, and how could they? It had never been done before!. He basically re-invented cinema with it. Camreon's genius may be unacknowledged tonight – but history will tell the tale. In 20 years we will still be looking at Avatar going"ohh and ahhh" at it's seamlesness, it's perfection of craft and most importantly for it's relevant socio-environmental themes. ANd in 50 years, when the rest of the world catches up with James Cameron – it will by then be acknowledged for what it is – an American national treasure. EVeryone should see this movie. Forget the Oscars. God Bless James Cameron for making Avatar..
Bigelow put Cameron in her Hurt Locker. Who's the King of the World now?
I find everyones comments interesting. And in the end really we cannot change the outcome tonight. I enjoyed the show and they are all winners. Precious , Sandra Bullock, .. They all provide entertainment which we have a option to view or not.. Thats the beauty of it...
Worst – Worst – Worst Ocscar Show EVER !!! The hosts should be sent back to Comedy Kindergarden, the Actor/ress "Fry-os" torn out of the script, and the producers and writers fired for turning Hollywood's most glamourous night into its most boring!
What movie did they think they were watching? Avatar was an ok film, but compared to the Hurt Locker, Howard the Duck was Oscar worthy. Just goes to show that Hollywood has become Hippie-wood. Any cause to 'freak out the establishment, man'.
All I have to say about this year's best picture is...
NEIN NEIN NEIN NEIN!
how does a movie breaking world wide records not get best picture????
shows how the propaganda goes as far into the movies as well.. keep that war machine going
Loved Sandra's performance in The Blind Side. She is a deserving and an excellent actress. It was a due for a long time. Wat to go!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
"The Hurt Locker" was so not the best picture of the year. HELLO STOLEN!!!
Fine. Where's the best life short?
You must be kidding – Avatar was utterly amazing – and it's ridiculous that it didn't win. I'm sure Hurt Locker was a good movie, but I would think that the success of Avatar would or should have given the Academy a hint of the relative impact of the films. Oh well, guess relevance is not an issue to the Academy...
How did Avatar not win best picture? I think all the people in the world who went to go see it, making it the highest grossing movie of all time, would probably disagree with this.
Glad Cameron didn't win Director......he had 5 years and unlimited budget, and still put out a terrible plot and bad actors....
@ Jason-Their having it at your mother's house.
I am so glad Avatar did not score big.
Well at least I got to watch it... thank you Tom
NO WAY!! What a joke!! I will never watch the oscars again. This is complete garbage!!!
Wow, Hurt Locker just took a HUGE dump on the chest of Avatar! Crazyyyyyy! Hahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahahaha
McDonalds tastes good, don't act like you don't eat there
yes , you have me pegged, i am jealous. jealous of "precious"
Prescious or Avatar should have won
I think its a political correct award. So my impression is that best film goes to Avatar. I think Kathryn deserved this one as a director because the hurt locker constantly created psychological tension and you could almost feel like someone thats in the ground and all the confusion and terrible issues war brings for real. Times and moments and dialogues are well picked up in this film.
Now Avatar has something that no other picture had, message, potential for selling, very entertaining and new technology. I wouldnt be surprised as Avatar being picked as best picture because of that and being political correct
How can you win for a stolen script ? Overrated !!!
No WAY!!!.... This movie was not anywhere near that good....
There is truly something wrong with this years academy awards....
It does not even belong in the running....
This is horrible....
I am darn glad a female finally won, down with all the haters
is the cast of Precious holding their post oscar party at Mcdonalds??
Strike that... fingers crossed didn't work. I think this is a political win.
crazy heart rocks! best picture!
Fingers crossed for Avatar... Amazing movie. Top seller... It deserves best picture.
Kathryn Bigelow got a better seat at the The Oscars than fellow nominee and ex-husband James Cameron........on a WOMENS DAY.. aah! what a day.. u have
congrats to Kathryn Bigelow on Best Director win. I thought Babs was a bit too casual and shouldn't have said ,"its about time" or whatever she said becasue the african-american guy thought it might be him.
Victor, since you are not a complete waste of my time I will simply say this...
You are a disgrace to humanity
Anyways, although this has been boring, most of these wins are very well deserved so far.
@Lou. You have me pegged. Good for you.
She did not deserve the 'Best Director' award for this movie... this was purely political.... I am VERY disapointed....
High/Volatage... coz.. allz eyes r on the Best Picture.. Fingers crossed
Well Vicky I guess I'll see you here next year......Congrats Sandra B!
feels sooo bad to miss 4 Carey Mulligan 4 her natural.. down to earth performance in "An Education"
Bullock, was good too. I love all her movie's. She seems so amazing.
foreign film shouldnt even be a category. this is America. why are we celebrating 3rd rate films from 3rd rate countries
What a great acceptance speech by Sandra Bullock. Some bloggers should take note,
I agree with Glenn, Waltz was incredible, but there were at least one too many "Monseur Lapadite"s in the opening scene, it got tiresome, like get on with the killing, but the rest of the movie he was stellar. Quentin Tarantino had mixed results with his cast though, most of the foreign actors/actresses were phenomenal but Brad Pitt looked like a dork in there, some of the worst acting I have ever seen, it was as if Tarantino was just happy to have someone who could sell dvds. Brad Pitt is far past his prime, if he ever had one. And what was Mike Myers doing in there?
i can't believe 'the white ribbon' lost for best foreign language film. what a joke.
Does anybody think Steve martin & Alec Baldwin are doing a good job? Why is Alec Baldwin staring at Clooney? Both seem to be making weird faces at each other.
Gabby should have won, I like Sandra but man Gabby really would have said something about poverty in this country.
Also, I agree with the following people:
People I wish I could understand what their comment was saying:
People who need to sit down and shut up because they're probably fat themselves and are jealous/bored:
YES< Sandra won!
Nobody says nothing about the foreign film????
what do people think about these short...mini-tributes that fellow actors are doing for the nominees in the leading categories. I don't know if I care for them but at least they are trying to change things up a bit.
Should Jeff change his name to Je'Ff
"Precious" was so good. I hope she win's best actress.
I hope Gabby wins!!! what an amazing story
This blog basically sums up everything thats bad and wrong in this world. People making nasty comments about other people because of their weight and race, really! It's 2010 and people still have these 1930 ways of thinking. Whatever happen to being happy for someone and what they have accomplished, besides it's not like any of us are getting anything from these people winning an award.
The hurt locker? A movie that has no sense.
This is incredibly time consuming and in poor taste
Certainly a very well deserved win for Mr Bridges! So happy that The Hurt Locker is being recognized for its powerful presentation. Yaaayyyyyy!! :D
I's sure did love me some Precious!
O.M.G will someone PLZ just make them shut up and present the award!! lol This is taking WAY too long!
Shouldn't you teenaged un-funny wanna be racist kids be in bed by now? Grown ups would like to enjoy the comments board for a while. You have school in the morning. Then again it's not working for you anyway. Tisk, tisk!
"Crazy heart" really what was that really about ? What I have seen not worth the time. A picture about a real person never had a chance.
These are my predictions of which I bet I get more right than anyone else on this post:
Best Picture: – "Precious: Based on the novel 'Push' by Sapphire"
Best Actor: – Jeff Bridges, "Crazy Heart"
Best Actress: – Meryl Streep, "Julie & Julia"
Best Supporting Actor: – Christoph Waltz, "Inglourious Basterds" [WINNER]
Best Supporting actress – Mo'Nique, "Precious"
Best Director: – James Cameron, "Avatar"
Avatar does not deserve best picture. It had a terrible plot and mediocre characters.....Beautiful, but boring. And seriously, it wasn't any more revolutionary than any of the new Star Wars films in terms of special effects....
@scott...and that's what America's all about, isn't it? You say tomato and I say toe-matto.. out of all 10 nominations, the only one that I found remotely entertaining was The Blind Side. My opinion – which I believe I'm entitled to :)
Now for an unscientific poll..which movie did you see in the past year that you loved, but wasn't nominated? To me, the best means it's about what the audience likes....
alert...alert...alert.....Obama will be a 1 term president!!!!
So far I have picked every winner... check my above post / predictions...
Charmaine, well said.
Does anyone know if Brad Pitt is there and if he showed up with Angelina?
I thought it was very touching when Mo'Nique won btw.
yeah, what's up with Clooney being so grouchy.
Well deserved Oscar for Christopher Waltz!
As far as precious/ Gabby goes... its not a racist thing for me at all. I just think the someone who is 300+ and acts like that isn't unhealthy and a big deal... isn't a good role model. I love the campaigns to promote a healthy body image but she is not an example of that.
It's unbelievable that so many people think they have freedom of speech on a privately owned message board...
I absolutely agree with the decission about the foreign film award. The secret in her eyes its a great movie, an unusual combination of almost every genre type of film done in a natural way. The script its also a great adaptation and it has many many reflexive philosophical, poetical and humorous lines. Add to that unexpected and expected twists. Its a clear example that touching films can leave messages unintentionally, without the need to invest millions to suceed.
Meryl Streep deserves the Oscar.
This is the most boring Oscar show. Big disappointment.
Oh, Pleath, Pleath.... Avatar I am praying....
FYI– Farrah appeared in several theatrical releases....The Cookout in 2004, Dr T and The Women in 2000, and a few other before that....one other one comes to mind....Cannonball Run...not sure what year....while these where not great movies, she still should have been included...
jeeze you think monique would at least splurge for outback or something!
WOW. I am taken back by some of the comments. Have you guys saw Gabby the lead in precious interviews? She is not a angry black woman and Monique? I wish all of you cowards could be exposed. I bet you wouldn't say it to their face. I am so disappointed in my fellow Americans. I love indigenous bastards, up in the air, avatar and precious. Classics!
Waltz definitely deserved his Oscar. He was true to the character he played. I wanted to kick that German officer's a–. He made me extremely furious. He brought out the most anger in me watching him. True to the character he played. An extraordinary performance.
btw Donald....Each year, an "In Memoriam" video is played during the Oscars, paying tribute to actors, directors, writers, crew and other film personalities who have died over the past year. Farrah Fawcett was an actor.
hosting a AA after hours party in LA and my caterer messing up...anyone have a good sushi place they recommend?
Avatar is way overrated. Up in the Air is the best picture of the year!
They are bashing the US in the UK on SKY TV
Kind of poor taste
This is the most boring Academy Awards ever. And how could they miss Farrah Fawcett in the In Memorian Tributes???
It's very badly produced.
hey feel too badly for Avatar taking such a brutal beating from The Hurt Locke
cmon, joe, ease up on the fat jokes
I will take that bet RJ
Thank you Obama, Oprah, Tyler, Samuel, Gabbie, Mo'Nique, Hattie, Jennifer and so many others for insighting such a racial riot on CNN's blogosphere. In 2010, we live in a huge wonderful country of hypocrites – proud to be American and proud to be racist. Until we become one nation, free to express our different cultures and be proud without degrading one another, we will never prosper. Our hatred will be our destruction. To disrespect another's success is only a snapshot into one's own selfishness and prejudice. The comments on this message board are rude, hateful and ignorant and a thorough highlight of the rude, hateful and ignorant authors. Congratulations to ALL of tonight's Oscar winners and God bless those who seek to separate and divide us even further in 2010! If nothing more comes of Obama's election, the world sees that racism is still very much alive and kicking which is all the morning reason to make sure Obama wins again in 2012!
Farrah Fawcett should have been recognized in the tribute video. Period.
Avatar and Hurt Locker are both mediocre movies ,i dont know what to say ,oscars are just lame pop awards now..
Lets put the cards on the Table. Monique may have won but I don't see a bright future for her. Not too many choice roles for 1 ton black women. Not enough roles for normal sized black women come to think about it.
She is a cartoon character.
well i am going to bed guys.. I have to get in line for wellfare tomorrow and precious usually cuts to the front of the line.
Does anyone know the count so far for Hurt Locker and Avatar?
Seriously star trek best make up?
The actress was most famous for her TV work on 'Charlie's Angels' and the TV movie classic 'The Burning Bed.' But Oscar shouldn't have overlooked that Fawcett starred in films ranging from the sci-fi thriller 'Saturn 3' to the '80s road-rally hit 'The Cannonball Run' to the drama 'Extremities' to Robert Altman's 'Dr. T and the Women' to 'The Apostle.'
O yes member
Precious was a loaded film, but I don't think it should win more than it has already.
I really wish we could all just get along, I mean wasn't that the point of District 9?? even ugly people deserve cat food! Goooo Precious!
Is it possible they showed Farrah first and that it got cut off? I don't see them leaving her out?
Haha, Avatar won for visual effects, no surprise there, but couldn't they find a wig that looked natural on that guy? Not only was it obvious but it was in 3D so you felt like you could rip it off his head, took me out of the game every time I saw it. $400 million to make and a bad toupee ruined it.
Best picture: The Hurt Locker
I bet you $20.
Charles your comment are your frustration with your lifel
monique is holding a afterparty at sizzlers
did anyone see how they/the producers cut the speech short for the winners of 'The Cove' and panned the camera to the audience so viewers at home couldn't read the 'text Dolphin to XXXX' held up by one of the winners? God forbid the man hold up a sign to try to save dolphins. Shame on you Oscars!
invention of lying...loved it? really? ugh...it was terrible maddy...can't believe you would even bring up a movie like that and compare it to any of the best pictures nominations..
I'm not watching the show, but I feel then need to express that The Hurt Locker is benefitting from a lack of competition this year, it's not overrated just lucky to be surrounded by shlock. Avatar was a nice trip to fantasy land but wouldn't even be nominated if it hadn't cost $400 million to make.
"The Hurt Locker" and "Avatar" r the main opponents standing in the ring.... fingers crossed... (When a film wins best editing..it usually wins Best Pic...omg..No!! plzz gimme to my Avatar..)
inglorious basterds for best movie!
Hey, I wonder if Monique is going to Elton John's party. I hear they have a heck of a buffet!!
we are what we are in this life and lets be proud in our past lives we may have been those who we condemn in this life we only progess by accepting each other on our journey to bliss.
Avatar is the Best Picture hands down, Hurt Locker was a good flick, but nothing like Avatar. I walked out of Avatar in a dream world and couldn't wait to see it again. The 1st movie in 15 yrs I've seen twice at the theater. Hurt Locker just doesn't have that effect.
Best Movie Snubbed by the Snooty, Self-Congratulatory Oscar Crowd: Star Trek.
Monique played herself, she did a good job at it, she should win best non-actress in a film,
FYI I can't wait for the King Kong remake azianeye:)
Well said, Will.
@victor.. and others that have made comments about the actors in precious. your opinions are clearly the reason why there are so many young people with eating disorders. pathetic!
For those talking about Farrah Fawcett being left off of the montage, check out her IMDB page. She did quite a lot, but it was ALL tv. This award show is for movies.
Oh Victor! You are so judgmental. I wonder what you do in life?
lol, no one in the us is at work, 1st shift is over for EVERYONE. do the math
yes i have a job niblet....general mngr at KFC and on break and online with CNN.....writing a screenplay and will be on stage one day at the AA......
One of the winners went on stage and said that she was glad that the Oscar was finally being awarded for merit of one's work instead of something political... That was actually very rude, insensitive, and giving herself WAY too much credits. I wonder why she never learned any manners or the values of being humble as a kid... I am not saying she did not deserve the award. I am just saying that her speech was just rude toward all the other excellent nominees!
I would put Farrah in the same category as Sarah Jessica Parker. both terrible actors. Farrah at least was a looker.
haha wow you people are way into this stuff I'm only an 18 year old who is bored right now and wanting to be annoying... jk about being annoying
My bet for the best picture : UP and Avatar!!!!
I read some of your comments. It is a good thing we have freedom of speech because shaun and a few other nimrods are demonstrating that right by showing just how stupid and ignorant they really are. Get an education and do something with your life. don't you people have jobs at this time of day. I am at least in a different time zone.
Davit, the woman who came up to accept the award for Music by Prudence was one of the producers, in fact she was the person who came up with the idea and funded the film from the start. The man, Roger, also producer, impolitely hurried to the stage and tried to deny her her tribute to the real heroes of the story. Elinor Burkett has given a voice to the marginalized children of this down-trodden nation. Roger Williams only did it to make money. We applaud Eli for doing the right thing.
– From Eli's friends in Zimbabwe
You hold your "First Amendment" right against the United States government, not against corporations. That is to say that other than time, place and manner restrictions, the United States government cannot interfere with the content or viewpoint of your speech. However, a corporation, on whose site you are posting comments, can regulate its own community as it damn well pleases.
Farrah...at best was a B actor. After her looks faded...she had nothing.
Her celebrity was enhanced only by her addict husband and their retarded criminal son.
She was left off for a reason. She's an embarassment to the industry....and ....of course, she was a televison star...not a movie star.
If I'm gUd at Maths.. Live Score is...Avatar 3, The Hurt Locker 3, Precious 2
Really, what's up with George Clooney?
Clooney smoked some ganja I think..what's with the chicken giblet head movement??
FAIL -> Farrah was left out of the death montage.
pretty sure the first amendment only applies to congress.. not a private individual or business or whatever.
Why do people post such negative things? It never ceases to amaze me how many ignorant, racist and horrific people populate this universe? If you don't like the movie or the actor that's fine–we're all entitled to our own opinions! But to attack someone because of their race or weight is really cruel and juvenile. THE PEOPLE WHO DESERVE TO WIN ARE WINNING!
Your ignorance is only overshadowed by your racism.
Toby Maguire deserves 'best actor'
Is it just me or was Farrah Fawcett and Michael Jackson left out of the Memorium tribute? They both appeared in theatrical releases ....seemed odd to me
I don't think the the Oscars will miss you "vicky". And the other guy said Jews and White people gave out the awards. I don't think Oprah or Obama fits that.........which is it?
Visual effects, an Avatar gimme. Good time to go for a bathroom break.
Are you kidding me?
Hated UP,,, Hated Avatar,,, Hated Up in the Air,,,why am I watching this?
Earlier today watched the Ricky Gervais in Invention of Lying...laughed my butt off, thought it was so friggin clever and was truly entertained..anyone else see it?
Why are not Toby Maguire and 'Brothers' mentioned?
LMAO I love it!!!!! sheer genius
I wonder who from this comment board has even seen Precious. It was a good film with solid acting. With two women who are black (as I am) and yes overweight, they were both confident and TALENTED enough to give outstanding performances, when they could have easily cowered from the challenge due to fears of what people (like those posting) might say. Kudos ladies. If an award is won (and one has been)....it was earned, but being nominated in itself is an awesome feat. As an aside, regardless of the work Mo'Nique has put out in the past (some trashy, yes)....it is THIS project she is being judged on, and she did a very good job.
Farrah Fawcett was ignored. She died June 25, 2009
Did Monique shave her legs??
I agree why not mention Farrah Fawcett. Maybe this only those who received the Academy, and to those who have racial predjucdices save it for another venue
Who should win supporting actress?
I agree with the several comments against _Up_. In general, mainstream full-length animation films are too formulaic. Maybe the plot lines are new for young children, but at my age, they are hackneyed. Regarding _Up_ specifically, I started to become uncomfortable about 3/4 of the way through the film. Probably Carl's (the stereotypical old guy) grumpy disposition began to wear on me.
This is crap that my first comment got deleted about the stupid person interrupting that guys speech... wow cnn way to let people have their first amendment right. They did have a Kanye West moment on their
did j lo miss her hair appointment? Geez
Yes, they should do a wonderful special on dear Farrah. She opened the doors for so many actresses with big hair
Hey Jana: You think playing an old white drunk in Crazy Heart, like one of your kinfolks, is acting? I love Jeff Bridges but his oscar tonight will be for the times he lost. Last year, it was Mickey Rourke (a has-been brokedown white actor) playing a drunk and a loser in The Wresler. Why do so many white actors get nominated for playing bums?
Mo'Nique deserved that win.
it will be a remake of free willy starring the fat slob haha
Why does some people have to be so rude in their comments...I may not agree with some of the winners...but there is no reason to be racist or rude with some of the comments...we are all human and all of us have talent whether others see it...how would you like someone to make a statement about you and post it where everyone can see...what comes around goes around
Not everyone can watch. I am at work and enjoying the play by play.
The opening scene with Waltz in Batards was simply chilling...he deserves the Oscar!!!
I noticed they left Farrah Fawcett out! Really sad..
im hoping th farrah fawcett oversight jst means that theyr gna do a special tribute fr her later
Sitting at you computer, lift your right leg and rotate your foot clockwise. Now with your right hand, draw the number 6 in the air and see what happens to the direction of your right foot..amazing!!!!
Different dances from all over, with elevator music in the background. yeah . .THAT will improve ratings .. .
A sin to overlook such a great talent as Farrah
The Hurt Locker is a great movie, the best movie about war in a while. It is very good and deserves everything it gets.
I hope it gets BP because Cameron's Pocahontas redux looks good but it is boring and unoriginal. Its story is cheesy and its dialogues are laughable.
I agree "Up" was not very good, IB was way overrated, HL is apparently inaccurate, and "Avatar" should win for best pic and direction but prob won't as it is a sci-fi flic with blue screen acting. And Star Trek does indeed, rule.
Why wasn't Farah Fawcett mentioned in the segment remembering the actors who have passed away?
Avatar, while gorgeous and an astounding technical achievement, is a theme park ride, not a best picture. I bet it will be nearly unwatchable on a small screen.
Hurt Locker, on the other hand, was incredibly well crafted and it skirted the fine line between scathing anti-war commentary and poignant homage (of the sacrifices our troops make for us) with finesse. I think it deserves the award. Plus it features mostly unknowns (vs. big hollywood money) and is still able to hold it's own on a budget. Have to respect that.
If not, Up in the Air should get it. Depressing as all hell, but well directed, well written and well acted.
Its a pity Sherlock Holmes did not get the recognition it deserved
Avatar is so over rated its not funny....
Anyone notice that Farrah Fawcett was left out of the memorial tribute to those performers, actors, producers, directors, etc that we've lost in the last year?Kind of rude and disrespectful if you ask me...
Any comments on the hosts?
Why didn't they mention Farrah Fawcett ?
Barring the special afftect-ations, Avatard is just "okay."
I seriously doubt that Bigelow would be able to make such a movie if it were not for Camerons direction...the rest of this years Oscars is also boring...glad i did not dvr it...oh yeah, u cannot see the awards live online because of advertisers influence...duh.
Bea Arthur should have been honored in the "In Memoriam" section...........
where was farrah in that tribute?
I wonder if they will make a remake of KingKong starring precious?
Kristin Stewart! Stand up straight! And we totally know you were smoking a cigarette before you hit the stage with Wolf Boy to introduce that tribute to horror movies.
Why did they forget Farah Fawcette in Memorial !!!
@bill-no but ur probably th guy who gets my coffee wen i'm vacation in the US
Gosh Demi Moore looks beautiful!
lol @meeeeeeee- rhodes university dahling.currently finishng my 2nd degree in law-feel free to look it up. nd wats ur claim to fame if u you dnt mind my asking?try to fight th temptation to lie
Some of these comments make me afraid for the human race.
fat slob is right, who is she? pathetic.
I can see it now. Monique and Jennifer Hudson in a film called "The Road to Diabetes 2"
I thought this was 2010 and people could at least let art be appreciated on its own merit without drawing race into it. Do us all a favor and keep your negativity and racism in the privacy of your own home. Monique and Gabourey are having a wonderful night while you are sitting at home spewing hatred..get over yourself.
OOOOH that "we", well you can take a lot of credit for that stuff those two groups have did. From killing Jesus to killing the planet. Way to group yourself.
Ok Jen, lay off the Blondes~
congrats Mo'Nique :)
The Hurt Locker cries out to the Americans Guilt complex. We started a war to get Cheney's hands on oil. We killed thousands of innocents and now we feel so bad.
So verrrrry happy Ryan Binghams song won! He is sooooo cool, his music is fab and he is too! Yea for Ryan!
All of you guys are idiots. Avatar really deserves what it's getting so far.
Also, I thought Ben Stiller dressed up as an Avatar was hilarious. Of course, Sasha could have done it better, but I bet it would have caused major controversy and caused James Cameron to possibly go on a mad killing rage.
BUT: http://www.felixfelicis.com <– join this plz.
@Bill – Don't presume to speak for white people. WE don't want you.
anderson cooper likes eggs
WE as in the jews and white people
or this one
Mmm! Looks.. like "The Hurt Locker" draws the line ahead of "Avatar"(most number of wins).. lets wait..and C til the end..
how 'bout chickens, weedman?
Has anybody actually seen the Hurt Locker? It is terrible. What are these people seeing in that movie.
I don't understand why The Hurt Locker is getting so much buzz. It was just another run of the mill war movie imo.
Mo'Nique deserves all the credit she is awarded, would you want to walk in her shoes, I admire her she comes from the real world not Hollywood.
alec and steve are terrible
@Bill...who is "we"? you are not giving any awards out. The only thing you give us is something dumb to read......
Does any one out there like eggs? I do.
Yiu are missing " the New Tennant Award"
I hope precious wins so she can pay her own medical bills for future obesity complications
georgie porgie, you finally smiled!!!
Yall Aint Gat Nutin Ta Do.......
...and he also likes movies
i should have put money on this.
It was a disappointment that Waltz's cartoon-spaghetti western villain won out over Woody Harrelson's complex portrait of a lonely coward in a warrior's uniform. But it was not unexpected. Too often the critics favor the Hannibal Lectors' over the John Cassavetes'.
wendy, I am home. He is alive!!!!!
Phoenix online? 4 yr degree?
The fat woman won because of the role, not for her performance. Whoever played that role would have won.
To NotDuped who said Inglorious was garbage: the spelling was to bypass American critics outrage at the word "Bastard" *gasp!* who knew that censors could be so picky over stupid things? NOT IN AMERICA!. I agree about the lack of character development...I would have liked to known more about the Basterds, but its still a good movie and Waltz did an AMAZING job. Thats a bingo! He deserved it.
Also, the Magnificant Seven was a complete re-make (rip-off) of Kurosawa's Seven Samurai. The only original thing it had going for it was the catchy theme song.
I think Anderson Cooper is a dreamboat!
Lule, so that means you work at starbucks?
I really do not understand ABC? In the old days TV was free except you had to watch the commercials...
So if they streamed it with commercials online it would be the same...
But now we have to pay by watching the commercials and also pay for a cable service or you cannot watch it ... period.
The cable companies are monopolies that need to be broken up...
Congratulations Monique. :)
for the ones who are making racial comments, you are really big & bold behind your keyboards & monitors. Do you have the nerve to say these things if you were out in public? Mo'nique has come a long way to reach this moment in her life, including Gabourey Sidbe. if only mirrors can reveal people for what they TRULY are.....
Up was HORRIBLE.
First off, it was a real snoozer. Secondly, I do not see why we needed to have a miscarriage and death of spouse in a cartoon. They could have left that part out.
I did laugh at the talking dog once or twice but it eventually got old.
@Chris, COuldn't have said it better myself. Inglorious was entertaining and driven by thoughtful, realistic dialogue. Avatar, while visually stunning was empty in writing and substance.
@charles, who says she has to choose god or kfc maybe she could thanks both:)
Clooney is not the only one looking unhappy. What's up with Matt Damon?
First of all I want to thank the academy and then I would like to thank dryer lint. I appreciate all your calls of condelence, yes my Epic film "Inglorious Basterds who Stare stare at Goats Behaving Badly" didn't win best picture this year. Oh well it was a honour just to be nominated, that what all the losers say isn't it? http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_LvzOLEXkkM
Why do "you people" have to be so mean spirited? Be civil or just be quiet. Know one here wants your input. Can't you tell
I hope that "Precious" will win the best movie award.
that is the only award that it deserves.
Can someone shoot out a live feed link please?
be nice to monique. she was standing up there and not you. it is the quality and not the quantity.
@meeeeeeeeeeeeeee-dnt ask stupid questions-no actual person is blue with a tail-avatar was fiction honey.nd u knw im right-hw many successful actresses do u knw who r larger than a size 4?nd hw many successful black actresses do u knw period??
nd abbreviations get u on th short bus round about the same time spelling two letter words with fifteen letters does. But just in case you were wondering, my Bachelors Degree in English Literature ensured that I am quite capable of writing entire words and with the correct grammar too. but ths is th internet so abbreviations r acceptable if not expected so jst calm urself
Really Monique won?? I mean seriously, maybe we should give jennifer hudson another award too
Great Job Monique!!!!!!!!!! She's not angry tonight......
dammit my live feed just got removed due to copyright
@Tom... I just lost the live stream... anyone know where a new live stream is?
Charles – you really need to stop the racist comments ....you really are a sad individual.
Who cares about these awards?? It seems like for month after month, it's one award show after the other. These actors and such patting themselves on the back over and over. People who like to watch this crap need to get a life!
Leave it to the Cable company to F$#@ something up.
Avatar wins art direction... This is my prediction
So glad Monique won. Well deserved!
@LolaS - you need to work on your reading comprehension skills. the FAT AND ANGRY black woman is Mo'nique. GS is just the FAT black woman.
Albert Friday, UP has no violence? So animated violence is okay or did you actually not watch this movie? Killer dogs. Room full of skulls by a demented psychotic adventurer who killed anyone coming near his waterfalls? Middle to end is non-stop action sequences where people are attacked. Nonviolent?
Hey Samuel L. What's up with eyes?
I wish someone would feed Precious some cat food she looks Huuungry!
Yeah, Inglourious Basterds has more directing talent in the first twenty minutes than Avatar does in the entire film – it's just a hacked-together James Cameron vehicle with three hundred million spent on CGI and almost nothing spent on actual writing.
People really watch this thing? I had no idea anyone cared about Hollywood libs this much.
Folks, Please explain why UP was good? I really like almost all the Pixar films but only thing good about UP was first 30 minutes and the last 5 minutes. Killer high tech dogs? Silly lost DODO bird? An old man who somehow does feats that no action hero could even do? Hard to like or even enjoy this movie. Very little is humorous, and no matter how much you suspend disbelief it is too hard to swallow...
Ummm...there's a few million people in NYC area that CAN'T watch, thanks to ABC and Cablevision....
Mo'nique for Best supporting actress, she was INCREDIBLE! Another one dead on by the academy!
Hey, Georgie, what's up with the face. Sour Puss!
If Monique ins will she move her neck in that cool sassy black girl way. I do hope so. Will she thank god or KFC?
Tarantino has thus far squandered his vast talent on childish, masturbatory fantasies. Bravo to the Academy for recognizing Mark Boal and his depiction of what violence is really like here on Earth.
His right or our right?
Some people are really shallow... Well it's your opinion anyway.... But could you please put some deep analysis(if your thinking at all...) about things in life... Don't be so "smart"(if your really one of those) but don't be ignorant as well(a lot will fall into this category)....
does being blue and having a tail make it more likely that you will be successful Lule? and at what point do abbreviations stop making sense and start looking more like you ride the short bus?
“UP” is a great movie. No sex, violence or bad language. Bring the kids.
@Gary, not all of us are watching, so the play-by-play is appreciated.
Wow, there is a lot of hate on this message board. First, before all of you open your racist mouths about the movie precious and the actress, i suggest you read the book and understand the life that this girl led. Second, inglorious bastards was supposed to be a joke; you all should relax or, if you are so hell-bent on your beliefs, get up from your keyboards and go out in public and declare your beliefs.
and why does the photo of the statue at the top of the page look like david letterman? the actual oscars face does not ressemble this giant statue....plastic surgery no doubt
oh nd Charles- moniques is black-she's not angry. precious' mum on th other hand is angry-so yeah she did hav to act to pull it off nd yes portraying a crazy woman who wud let her own child b repeatedly raped is a stretch-for anyone
What exactly happened during the acceptance speech for Music by Prudence? Who was that woman? Does she not know that people who interrupt other people's speeches never go over well, no matter how valid their point.
Um, its a movie. Much like Predator didn't actually chronicle an alien invasion so that humans could be hunted for sport. I see how you might be confused, but rest assured... I.G. was not historically accurate, nor was it a revealing look into the modern 'Jew's' psyche. Leave the anti-semetic stuff out of this
Yeah, I agree with who ever has said this, STAR TREK RULES!!!!
I agree Lola. To see a woman who is NOT a size 0 in a film today is absolutely something to be praised.
IDK, but Clooney looks bored to tears
so much mental retardation goin on...
@meeeee-being fat nd black actually makes it less likely that u will b a success in hollywood-everyone knws that dumbass nd thats wat makes monique's success so much more impressive.she was actually ths yrs best actress but her charactr was a supporting role so...
@jana-yes, that fat black slob is going to win.ha!
Dan–You're right. I was beginning to wonder if I was the only one who noticed that big purple lady jumping right in there. Who was that?
your 9:40 entry wiped out the 9:36 entry
star trek <3
Does anyone else think that most of these people that are nominated (e.g., George Clooney, JAmes cameron) look unhappy? What's up with them?
Eddy- what exactly is a rasist bastard?
Wow. The anger on this comment board is ridiculous. The way some of you attack Gabourey Sidibe is so trailer park. To call her a fat angry black woman just shows you have no idea what you're talking about, Charles.
I hope she wins just because of all the insults she's been getting from the white trash. Need to prove that you don't have to be an anorexic moron to be a star in Hollywood.
Well Deseved... Thumbs UP!!
@Jana: You're not a racist, are you????? My goodness! ...black slob ...
star trek rules
@Tom: You are the man... thank you
inglorious bastards is a miserable creation by those whose lust for endless revenge upon the world for what happened to the jews now finds a despicable "voice" in this disgusting picture.I walked out early on.I believe the jews will not be happy until millions of innocents have died to somehow "PAYBACK" the world for the admitted catastrophe of world war two. It is very worrying how this revenge "creativity" is growing by leaps and bounds,,,How is it possible that this dreck is considered for anything but the garbage heap.
Shaun, even as a poor black woman I know there is a space between a and lot.. nice work!
"Avatar" has to win best picture and James Cameron has to win "best Director". If they dont, the oscars dont reflect anything but an elitism, atit's worst. What a frame by frame masterpiece that film is.
@ shaun and jim, CNN can decide which comments to post and which comments to not post. I am a liberal and even my comments get moderated. Go post your garbage on a RW website, they eat that stuff up.. @ jana, you ought to follow shaun and jim and post your negativity elsewhere.
The Oscars will bring a lot more people watching it if they would not broadcast will these categories . . . have the ones early and broadcast the main ones . . . you can do it in 2 hours.
I really hope Mo'nique does win, maybe that shut you (rasist bastards) up. It's so weak to sit behind your keyboard and say anything you want. Go outside and find a black MAN and make those comments. Go flush yourself!!!!!!!!!!!
Jana...you are one sick, sad pathetic indivdual. You no doubt live a lonely life. Get some counselling!
What the hell was that??? Did that lady just pull a Kayne?????
She didn't even realize that she interupted that guy's speech!
We are get to be movie critics if we have seen the movie on Oscar night... what is wrong with that...
Hey don't you be talkin bout my precious that way! I will give you sumthin to cry about!
I liked Inglorious Basterds alot, but I like all Quentin's films. How can you not like a film where Hitler and the whole Nazi government gets shot up. Besides have you ever seen a WW2 film where they were not trying to be historically acurate, totaly original. Also nice to see a WW2 movie with no war in it.
'Avatar' is just a recycled storyline bolstered by millions upon millions of dollars. It's pretty to look at, but there is absolutely no substance to it at all. We've seen this story over and over again; the only thing Oscar worthy about it is the special effects.
Christoph Waltz what a win, he really earned that Oscar! BRAVO!
Best Picture: – "Precious: Based on the novel 'Push' by Sapphire"
I find it interesting when grown adults comment on grown adults given their GOD given right to an opinion even if it is less then high-school educated
I am also really wondering what is up with George Clooney. Does anyone know what all that was about?
Hey mr. high and mighty, were all critics, you included. Whats wrong with voicing your opinion, is that not the point of comments?
It's a mystery why we can't be watching the Oscars live online. This is the 21st century, for crying out loud. The networks want a clue to why they're being marginalized? This is one reason. Show it online, parade ads past the viewers that you can't opt out of, and watch what happens.
Go "Up"!!!! Well deserved!! If only animated films could also be nominated for "Best Picture".....
live link noakz
I find it amusing to look at grown adults who think they're movie critics banter back and forth. Does anyone else feel the same way?
I agree that Inglorious Basterds was not a very good film. Despite this, Christoph Waltz's performance was amazing. He spoke 4 languages in the film (English, Italian, German and French) and is a unbelievable actor. I saw him on a talk show and wasn't so impressed with him (seemed pretty cocky).
I wish I was bi-polar so I could act, or fat and black;)
Tarantino is a great director the same way that Jack Black is a great actor
Hurt Locker Is Garbage. Who decided it was so great, everyone I know thought it was ok but nothing special. I saw it last week and was not impressed. I don't know where all the hype came from. If Avatar does not win best director and best picture I will never watch the awards again as they are a complete joke!
Jana......go back to school and learn how to write....or at lest read over your dumb statement before you post it....lol
Whats the name of the guy who sang the during the opening ceremony of Oscars? He was not Ryan Secrest was he?
Jana- I cannot BELIEVE you would say something so offensive: "black slob?" I would ASSUME from your remark that you are a size 0 and a completely clueless blonde. Just because someone is heavy does NOT mean that they are a slob- in many cases, such as my mother and I, precisely the opposite. Nor does being heavy as an actress make one less worthy of an award if one is a quality actor. Having never seen the film, I can't say whether she deserves the nomination- but obviously those in the business saw fit to nominate her, so there must be something praise worthy there, so stop denigrating someone for something that should have NO bearing on the awards process.
@Dawn lol well put!
What's up with George Clooney's sour expression? He seems to need a sense of humor.
Avatar should win all its been nominated for and some awards that it wasn't. Only good movies to me this year were District 9, Inglorious, and Avatar. The rest were just lame.
Wow! Some of you are total jerks
The Oscar site says the have live streaming. Where?? What a miserable come-on.
The Black slob comment is a bit much however, I thought the oscars were about ACTING. A fat angry black woman nominated for playing a fat angry welfare mother. That is a stretch.
Pulp Fiction was the best film Bit 'T' did... haven't seen much worth seeing of his lately... He has developed his own style which is worth noting if you are in the film industry... but he is not necessarily a great story teller... but I think he could be... but needs to focus more on developing the story instead of so much on effects and sasationalism...
NONSENSE!!!!! The "Hurt Locker" wins best "original" screenplay. It was a good movie, don't get me wrong, but there can only ever be so much originality in the dialogue of a "straight up" military film. On the other hand, Tarantino's "Inglourious Basterds," although a semi-war film was the very definition of originality, to the extent of rewriting history. It was superior to The Hurt Locker in every conceivable way.............
that chick from the "P" film, yes i know i am to lazy to look it up; I hope she wins and maybe just maybe she will not fall off the scream like that loser hudson did.
I actually thought "UP" was not that great of an animated movie...at least not that entertaining.
Avatar really is best picture. Cameron best director as well.
Hurt Locker did not deserve best original screenplay. This movie is WAY OVER RATED for some reason and I can only think it is political because of who directed it. The movie is just not that good... I am sorry... It is worth renting.... but I don't even think it belongs in the same lineup as Precious, Avatar, and An Education...
Christopher Plummer and Jeff Bridges forgot more about acting than whatever the current crop of today's so-called superstars will ever absorb during their booze and drug induced tenures!
does anyone know what the George Clooney Alec Bladwin thing is about?
so can some one say dope house records/rocnation collabs 4 life for a movie that is a triology, 1 pac life, 2 bigg life, 3 first dead talented white rapper.
shaun: about that comment of CNN. cprrection, CNN is a tabloid website. These are awards are very boring. what was kathy ireland on. she was kookoo
you need to show your credentials as a liberal (ie criminally insane) to not be moderated, its the cult of CNNism.
The only thing Hurt Locker deserved to win was" Best Fantasy" - SGT Jim, EOD, Sunni Triangle, Iraq, July-December 05
That' 'black slob of an actress' is a thousand times more successful that you'll ever be. Jealous much?
I must agree with Uncle David. Inglourious Basterds is a garbage film. Tarantino's name alone wasn't enough to float this loser, so he had to recruit Brad Pitt. Even the spelling in the film's title is a cheap trick to garner the public's interest. The movie's essence is a few of shocking graphics (scalping, finger in bullet hole, etched swastika); then, a lame story was built around the graphics. Zero character development (hey, Tarantino, if you want to see how you could have done your film properly, watch _The Magnificent Seven_).
We aren't all watching. Thanks for the play by play. I like "exotic pictures."
Does anyone know where to REALLY watch the Oscars LIVE streaming online... don't shoot me a link unless you have tested it and no for sure... and don't send me a BS link that is some scam ad...
But we must love Quentin's films, as we squeeze a lime into a Corona
It would be nice if CNN posted the order in which awards were going to be given.
Hurt Locked Completely Sucked!! It Should Not Win Anything!!!
I agree with Joe. Tarantino makes garbage films.
Tell J to go see Doc Scott... he'll dose him proper.
yeah, keep moderating my comments CNN, nice freedom of speech, CNN IS A JOKE!!!
Anyone who thinks Quentin Tarantino makes quality films also must think G.W. Bush has an IQ greater than Einstein!
Inglorious? More like GARBAGE!
Lt. Aldo Raine: Yeah, in a basement. You know, fightin in a basement
offers a lot of difficulties. Number one being, youre fightin in
Anyone who can make a bad guy so appealing deserves the award.
loved christopher waltz in inglourious! way to go!
Well deserved for UP – the best animated film, ever! (excluding Hayao Miyazaki)
Are you sure that is Gabourey Sidibe? Looks like a manatee.
It would be nice if the Oscars joined the modern age and allowed viewers to see this show live online. Seems archaic to me, to still just watch something solely on tv.
Great! I loved his portrayal of Landa!
enough with the play by play, already. we're WATCHING.. so we know who won. give us some INSIGHT. geez.
Waltz' performance in the opening scene of Inglourious all but wrapped up his Oscar.
Might be one of the very worst movies I've seen since my first 'show' about 50years ago. It was 50 cents. I spent 9 bucks to nod off and spill popcorn through this one. How I stayed awake remains a mystery.
Waltz deserved the win.
Who are the coupke to the right of George Clooney?
