Conan O'Brien tweets a plea for help

Conan O'Brien

In our continued watch of "Celebrities Joining Twitter 2010," we've received word that the dolphin-smooching, out-of-work Conan O'Brien is the latest to sign up.

With the simple Twitter handle of "ConanOBrien," the former late night talk show host has tweeted just once, but already has more than 245,000 followers at the time of this posting.

O'Brien, who has laid fairly low since he left "The Tonight Show" in late January, informed Twitter users yesterday that he's exhibiting a few symptoms of withdrawal.

"Today I interviewed a squirrel in my backyard and then threw to commercial," he tweeted. "Somebody help me."

Even his bio is a characteristically self-deprecating: "I had a show. Then I had a different show. Now I have a Twitter account."

none of these guys who have been "newsworthy "lately are funny. they need to get a harmless hobby, such as cliffdiving, or maybe alligator wrestling.

He needs to grow up, and for all of his fans... his ratings were in the toilet.. and he was running the Tonight show into the ground. GET IT. He looks like Howdy Doooody without strings... and I think he can live on the millions he got. I don't think we all need to have a telethon for him... maybe he should try and get a real job. How about driving a cab, and maybe he can try his stand up comedy.

Why do people think he got 40 million. 12 million went to his staff and not even all his staff got paid either so Conan still comes out of pocket to give them money too and after taxes he still has more than 20 million of course but he actually got way less money than if they had to let Leno go.
150 million to Let Leno go I hear and do you really think any of that money would have went to his staff?

Out of all these night dudes, my favorite is Letterman. He is poised, confident, gutsy and funny. I only watch on rare occasions and I change the channel if I don't care for his guests but I always like his opening jokes. He delivers well. Leno does not have that charisma. I would think Leno appeals more to blue collars and since more blue collars are watching these shows, that explains the ratings.

He is an intelligent man and a good comedian but I think that the low ratings on his failed show had more to do with the writers, the set, the guests than himself per say. Things did not click. I could see him looking like woody wood pecker and actually appearing nervous and no audience likes that. Too nervous, not confident enough and that set was just wrongly designed...poor energy flow. Last but not least, if Leno had just retired, Conan eventually would have done just fine; ratings would have gone up and he would have worked out the details. Why is Leno so determined to hang around? I think his ratings are about to go down.

I never thought Conan would beat Leno's rating on the Tonight show.

That doen't mean he is not funny, he just doen't appeal to as many people.

ALso, Leno didn't take his job. Conan was offered a job and he turned it down. Leno is under contract, he can't just quit or NBC could wipe him out financially, just like Conan did a number on NBC.

So let's quit the bitterness. For those who love Conan, I am sure he will be back on another network and may the best man win!

I bet Conan's reading these comments. If so, "HEY CONAN! Thanks for making me laugh. Your message about not being cynical on your last show was really touching. I was one of those angry people but you calmed me down and I admire you for that move. Good luck!"

i never understood why so many people thought conan should get the tonight show when jay's show was winning the time slot by a large margin–then after jay moved to accommodate the "dream" of conan –conan lost the time slot by a large margin– jay is invited to come back and bring the winner show back-then somehow jay is the bad person for saying yes to retaking the helm of the tonight show. how come when cocan's show is a loser and jay's show is a winner conan deserves the tonight show 'cause he has a dream? both men had the dream of hosting the tonight show–only one of them was able to produce a winning show–
the tonight show is not a prize to be won by who has a dream - dreams are nice–but producing a product is how you are able to realize your dream and jay has the ability to realize his dream-

    Tony: you mean Terry Fox.

It was Terry Fox who ran with one leg and a prothesis for his other missing leg (he lost that leg to cancer) in what he called a "Marathon of Hope", sadly around Thunder Bay, Ontario his cancer returned – with a vengence I might add. Unfortunately he wasn't able to beat it that time.

His Mother was honoured with the opportunity to carry in the Olympic Flag in Vancouver, BC a couple of weeks ago.

To this day every year across Canada there are countless "Terry Fox Runs" or "Runs for the Cure" etc.

In regards to Conan, it is unfortunate that he got the short end of the stick. It was sadly, even predictable that he would be the sacrificial lamb. I wish him well in his furture endeavours, what ever they may be.

Conan's rating may have been poor, but the local affiliates were not asking to have him pulled. That's the difference. Leno was totally stinking in his new spot. NBC was losing that 9:00 viewer that carried over to the news and then to the Tonight Show. Even the ratings for the news was lower once Leno took the 9 spot.

To all you Conan lovers out there...let me set the facts straight, Leno had nothing to do with Conan's big flop has host of the Tonight Show...he was being clobbered by Dave and even George Lopez show on TBS had higher ratings, I didn't hear anyone complain when Conan pushed Jay out five years ago by threatning to leave NBC if he wasn't promised the Tonight Show...to me..the big villain here is NBC by setting up this whole late night shuffle in the first place. I will admit Leno is not as naturally funny as Conan however, Leno's style does appeal to a larger audience precisely because his style is not quirky or odd, Conan was successful at 12:30 because of his quirky style which did not transfer well to the 11:30 crowd...GO JAY!!

Ok ..so great you guys love Conan but if Conan was really great, he still be on NBC doing the Tonight Show. The fact of the matter is that he was liked by a very limited viewership. Jay is liked by a much bigger population and since numbers matter that is why Jay is in and CoCo is OUT! CoCo's dry comedy can only go but so far. Maybe you lovers of Conado can get him to do a show on You Tube...mmm yeah that might work. Even Wanda Sikes is funnier than him.

I like Jay and i like Conan, wish we could have both.
But the simple facts that most of the media will not report is that Conan bombed on the Tonight show.
    Ratings went down 49% .
Jay did not steal the show back,NBC wanted Jay back at 11:30.
Conan had a number one show and could have been on the air for another 20 years making millions but he got greedy, had to have the Tonight show and he just bombed big time.
I you want to blame someone for this mess blame some of the big shots at NBC that let this mess happen.

Hey RX100 you are reading this in the entertainment section. Conan is a entertainer. Even way back in the days of newspapers there was a entertainment section. If your looking for real news look elsewhere on the home page instead of clicking onto the Conan link and it not having the news you are looking for then taking the time to complain. Just sayin....

Just hope that he dumps his stupid sidekick...he's anoying
The band is great, his monologues are terrible, but the sketches are the best....overall pretty damn good...
We still believe that Craig Ferguson is by far the best in late night host(the trouble is that he's way too late - 12:30 AM)...without a band and a big set, just himself and his brilliant comic mind...

I waited 5 years for you to take over the tonight show and now you are gone. I miss you and the show. You should do a show on out of work people. I know the feeling well. You are kind of in limbo, part of you likes it and part of you wonders what is next.
I think if you did a spoof on out of work people it would be great, us unemployed people need laughter in these hard time. I am still able to laugh without 40 million. I will be your first guest, for a fee that is!
