'Gilmore Girls' movie a possibility?

I think I had a small stroke when I read the headline on Popeater.com: "Alexis Bledel Ponders a 'Gilmore Girls' Movie." I still cannot get enough of the two Lorelais, even though "Gilmore Girls" completed its run nearly three years ago.

The show - set in fictional Stars Hollow, Connecticut - centered on a mother-daughter duo who were best friends first and parent/child second. Oh, and it was magical! Not in a wands and broomsticks sort of way, mind you; but in a "sitting on a window seat, watching snow fall, drinking hot cider (or coffee, if you’re a Gilmore) and savoring a great book" way.

Series creator Amy Sherman-Paladino (a.k.a the smart American girl's hero) breathed tremendous life into her characters. For example, Bledel's character, Rory, aspired to be CNN's Christiane Amanpour, quoted Dorothy Parker (Sherman-Palladino's production company is named Dorothy Parker Drank Here Productions) and read Proust. Literature was essentially an un-credited character on "Gilmore Girls."

The plot goes like this: Series protagonist, Lorelai Gilmore, turned down a life of privilege after becoming pregnant at 16 and opted to raise her daughter on her own. At the show’s premiere, Lorelai was 32, Rory was 16, and the show was about how Lorelai wanted Rory to be exactly like her, but at the same time be nothing like her. She wanted Rory to have the advantages she never had (top-notch education, world travel), but also wanted to keep her away from coming out parties, cotillions, rich snobbery and overall stuffiness. Throughout the show’s seven seasons, we saw Lorelai grow from inn manager/community college student pursuing a business degree by night to proprietress of her very own country inn.

We simultaneously watched Rory grow from 15-year-old Harvard-bound prep school student, to editor of the Yale Daily News (she picked Yale after agonizing over one of her famous pro-con lists) to Ivy League graduate and reporter on the Obama campaign.

But sandwiched within those details were the elements that made the show dazzle. The quirky inhabitants of Stars Hollow were straight out of a 1940s screwball comedy (articles could be written about each one of them). Lorelai's parents, Richard and Emily Gilmore, started off in the series by funding Rory's education but wound up guiding, anchoring and nurturing both Lorelai and Rory, and always with a great sense of humor.

What other fictional TV show could nab guest stars like Madeleine Albright, Senator Barbara Boxer, Norman Mailer, and the aforementioned Christiane Amanpour?

While a "Gilmore Girls" movie is still feeding rumor mills, I wonder if it is better to just leave well enough alone. Perhaps it is best not to mess with perfection.

What about you? Would you like to see a "Gilmore Girls" movie? Or, if you weren’t a "Gilmore" watcher, are there any TV shows (a la “Sex and the City") that you believe would translate well to the Silver Screen?

    AMY SHERMAN-PALLADINO & DAN PALLADINO

    LUKE & LORELAI

    JESS & RORY

In interviews I've heard/read Amy say that she was saving those famous last words for a Gilmore Girls movie, and if there isn't one, she'll take them to the grave with her. They set us fans up to expect Luke and Lorelai together from day one; and Amy said she wanted Milo V. to stay with the show with a 6 year contract, and when he wouldn't give her that, she said she'd write him back in the show in a heartbeat whenever he had time for them. He was written as Rory's soulmate.

So...ASP/DP, JavaJunkie, Literati, and all our beloved Townies...and PLEASE, PLEASE, PLEASE, I BEG...LET THIS BE OUR GILMORE GIRLS MOVIE!!!! <3 <3 <3

I would LOVE, LOVE, LOVE to see a Gilmore girls movie. Hopefully, Lorelai and Luke would me married and expecting a child together and Rory will have gotten her wish of becoming Christiana Amanpour. I loved this show from the very beginning and I just bought the whole series on dvd and am watching the show over again season by season.

I mean as much as I love the show and as much as I wish it never ended.. all things must come to an end at some point. I think the way the ended the show was really good, if they tried to make a movie after the fact I think it could disappoint alot of people. I'm not saying that the movie would be bad... but if you think about it, a season is about 22 hours long, therefore people say that they want a movie and they will probably enjoy it but then they will want more and more of it. I think if they did anything they should just pick the show up again. I think making a movie would just be pointless.

Yes. Gilmore Girls Movie All the WAY!!! One of the main reasons that the show was running was because of Lorelai's & Rory's love life. If they dont get a happy ending what was the point of the show!!

I think that Gilmore Girls is one of the most well-done shows of all time. I personally own every season, and have seen each episode multiple times. The fact that the story focuses on a mother-daughter relationship in a small town that is so much like my own relationship with my mom and the town we live in makes it all the better in my opinion. However, I feel that the best part about the show was just that; it was a show. Every episode had it's own dilemma that had to be solved in 50 minutes. Because of that, the show was always very fast paced. I feel that, if a movie were to be made, some of that charm and wit that avid viewers of Gilmore Girls came to love would get lost along the way. It’s difficult to keep up the sort of pace that the actors did. And while we’re talking about actors, there are far too many characters for a logical movie. The show worked because producers could swap out some of the secondary characters, but it’s more difficult in a movie so have dozens of secondary characters. While I would absolutely love to return to Stars Hollow with the Lorelai’s, I feel that a movie wouldn’t be able to do the show the justice it deserves.

I completely agree with you. As much as I want it to continue I dont think a movie would do it justice, as you said. I think if they are going to do anything the best option would to just pick up the show again. But then again I have seen shows that have done that and failed miserably. So I think the best option would be to just leave it as it is, even though I wish it never ended.

I am so happy they still play the seasons on ABC family, I watch them whenever I get the chance.
Luke and Lorelai are a must though! I hated when they were broken up, their little fights and making up was always great to watch.

I do not think there should be more seasons because they ended it and all, but a movie would be PERFECT!!!

I want a movie so bad!!!! I own the series and watch it all the time. I think the lorelai-luke wedding has to be included and I did not like how Rory and Logan broke up! Logan should show up how he always does insist he made a mistake and will be faithful forever blah blah blah and wait until she is ready to get married. I also think the classic characters should be included like:

-Kirk (random an funny as always)
    -Michel (mad as always LOL)
    -Miss. Patty
    -Taylor
    -Lane
    -Zach
    -Paris (What happened with her)
-Doyle (They should get married they were perfect together!)
    -Emily
    -Richard
    -The whole Huntzberger clan
    -Christopher
    -Sookie
    -Jackson
    -Dean
    -Jess
    -Mrs. Kim
    -Madeline
    -Louise
    -Colin
    -Finn
    -Jason
    -Max
    -Liz
    -T.J
    Etc.

Christopher should be married and have Gigi and another kid. (wow, three kids, three mothers) and should be finally over Lorelai. Dean should have a new girlfriend. IDK about Jess But he should be there. And maybe Kirk and lulu should get married. Lots of weddings, I know! And one of those thing were Lorelai is walking down the isle and as she looks at certain people you see flash backs of all the time they spent together. This would be a dream come true!! Love GG. Thx for reading!!

I am a very new entrant of the GG fan club. I am still reeling under the shock of an abrupt and sad ending of the GG series. I cant get over the Rori / Logan split.. I feel that they were meant to be and complimented each other to the T. It really saddend me to watch them walk away from each other. I so very wanted to see Logan in the finale episode.. I have fast forwarded the entire Bon Voyage episode to see if Logan would just magically appear only to be disappointed in the end.. I could very well fathom Luke and Lorelai getting together but I feel that there was complete unjustice done to others like Sookie, Jackson, Emily, Richard, Lane and our very own Paris. It just felt so incomplete and lacked closure.
For a very long time I felt very sad and it being a TV series I am sure no one could understand why i was so depressed but then for the very first time i went on the net and found a lot of unhappy fans who were just not able to understand this sudden ending or should i say un-ending. This series deserves a closure and what better than a movie. Rory and Logan deserve to be back together and Lane definitely needs to do something better than raise 2 kids and Emily- Richard – Loreali saga needs to end and etc etc etc. So for the sake of millions of fans i would urge you to give us a respectable closure to this series. Pleeeeeeeeeeeaaaaaaaase make a movie with a happy ending. Hope someone reads my blog and acts on it.. Thanks

I unfortunaately do not own all seven seasons, but I borrowed them from a friend and have yet to give them back. I loved that show from the very beginning, and was dissappointed in the finale. The last season in general was a let down. And since it ended, I've been wishing for a movie. My husband has, too! He'd never watched until I practically forced him to, and now it's our go-to when we want something to watch. I really, REALLY hope Amy Sherman writes the script ASAP!!!

It would be sooo cool if there was a movie. What would make the movie even better is if there was a whole lot of Milo (aka Jess). Jess and Rory were ment to be together, and as cliched as it is it would be AWSOME if they finally gave us the Luke/Lorelai wedding wedding we were deprived of and in the process it brought Jess and Rory together.

I think it is almost unanimous that this is a great idea, this was a fantastic show until the end when it seemed very rushed, even those who did not like logan can see that with all the hardships they overcame rory and logan should have ended up together, and they still can. That all thats necessary, Loreli was clearing going to get back with Luke after her divorce, she and luck were meant for each other, just like Logan and Rory. Its on in the same, and thats what the show portrayed, so I believe that something even a short ending or a movie should be done logan was known for making decisions too quickly and Rory clearly loved him so they should be together, have Logan realize he cant live without her or the other way around. I know its the widely known ending for everything, but rory and logan deserve a happy ending.

I would love it! I just finished the series about a half an hour ago and I'm basically an emotional wreck at the moment. It was fantastic and one of the best television series that I've ever had the good fortune of seeing. As long as the movie had the same writers and all of the cast, I am very confident that it would be incredible. One thing that I would love to see in the movie... Jess coming back. I will always believe that Rory and Jess are soul mates. They make so much more sense than Rory and Dean and Rory and Logan (yes, they were good, but not as good as Ress... or Jory). Please make a movie! Also, I would love to see a Friends movie. I think that would be just perfect.

I would be worried that they would destroy a great show and its legacy. I am a huge fan of the show and was so disappointed in the last 2 seasons, especially the last. And the finale looked so thrown together. TV needs shows like GG simply for the underlying cultural education and its wholesomeness. I would definitely see the movie but I would hate for them to fail at reaching the standards that GG fans will expect.

Where to start with Gilmore Girls...I began watching when it first appeared on tv. I continued watching it every week for the next seven years. I became one of the biggest fans. It was so well written. The show eventually became a part of me...not it an obsessed way but the characters were real people to me. I just loved that town. When I went to college, it was a comfort to me to put on a Gilmore Girls episode when I was having a bad day. Sadly, one of the best shows in those days went off the air. There were things that I really would have liked to seen on the show before it went off the air. Specifically, I would have liked to seen Luke and Lorelai get married. So, my point is...I would love to see a GG movie...only if the writing and characters are still the same. If it can't be, let it rest for the better.

As a single mother this was special time for me and my daughter. This would be money well spent at the movies with her as well. I credit some of the inspiration of the TV sitcom to having a daughter that has a good head on her shoulders. We have a relationship I love.

Would love to see a movie. My daughter and I are a real-life version (except for the having a baby at 16 on my part). We are a team. It's been just us for a very long time... and very often she is the grown up and I am the goof! We watched it together faithfully and re-watch the DVD's all the time. But...Amy has to be at the helm. The last season was a pale pale version of what we loved prior to that.

They ended the show too abrupt, without the proper opportunity given to other loved/endearing shows. As a single parent who had a teenage daughter when the show began, this was something the both of us looked forward to watching...whether we were talking to each other at the time or were in the middle of another argument. The dialogue was incredible, the characters as quirky as quirky could be and it WAS something I felt comfortable watching with my daughter.

I don't know .... I liked GG but that doesn't mean it would make a good movie. The thing that was essential about GG were the evolving, and deevolving, relationships. Those kind of things play out best over hours and hours of time together – not the 108 minutes of your average movie. Some of the worst movies in GG was when they moved things too fast. I fear that a movie would take some of the shine off.

I believe all fans miss Gilmore Girls and somehow a movie could ease the pain of not having a fresh new episode to watch. However, we always should consider what "Sex and the city" became after the movie was release. That movie adds nothing to the series and serves only the need for making more money out of that business that the great studios seek blindly. As a fan, I think we should really let it rest and pray that Alexis and Lauren (both understimated actress by the industry) find their way and continue to dazzle us with their talent.

Emily was just classic. Of course I adore Rory and Lorelei but it was the entire world the series created that was so magical and a world I miss and would love to revisit on the big screen. The charm of Stars Hollow has me watching it still in reruns. I would LOVE to see Jackson and Sookie, and Curt and Taylor at their best again...I wonder how many maids Emily could go through during the course of a 2 hour movie??

The only thing I ask, beg, PLEAD: make sure Amy Sherman-Palladino writes it. The Girls were at their best at the hands of their creator, and the show suffered when Amy wasn't at the helm of the script.

I have been a fan of the GG TV show for years, watching 2 episodes a day & twice on weekends! Great character development - I swear I know these folks for real, being from a gazebo ridden Smalltown,CT & having worked with West Hartford insurance actuaries and having met their wives. I think a GG movie could have widespread "Mama Mia" type appeal. I hope Miramax does it. If they do, it will have the same familiar "heartbeat" of the TV show. A necessary component is surely Amy Sherman-Paladino. (I agree with Tim. Let's hope to get her back!) I'm probably older than the desired demographic (closer to Emily's age than either Lorelai, but younger than Gran Lorelai). Let's hope it flies!

I miss the streets, the characters, Luke (Go Luke!) and the quirky-ness which I as a single mother (though never as gorgous or as hip) could so relate to. My baby is now 17 and wrestling with all those huge adolescent questions and I have re-made my career and life yet again. Its a true American pasttime apparently :)

Gilmore Girls was an island of originality in a world of 15 minute fame and pseudo reality star sickness. Please bring back the (in-)sanity. the world needs GG :)

The world they inhabitted and the people they came in to contact with were magical. From another more idealic time while still being extremely timely and up to date. Oh how did Amy do it?

It would love to see where Rory and Lorelai are now.

I think a Special on TV or HBO would be better because this is the medium where Gilmore Girls flourished.
I do wonder what happened to Luke and Lorelei and it Rory got a job in DC for Obama.

Plot: Lorelai turns cougar, seduces Logan one drunken night after watching The Graduate, falls pregnant. Rory is so traumatized she turns evil and teams up with old flame Jess in a Bonnie & Clyde type rampage across the country. She tweets their evil deeds and becomes the prettiest Most Wanted on-the-road journalist of all time. She gets caught, and Paris, her lawyer (after despatching Gloria Allred), has to win the court case. Only Paris, jealous and with an elephant's memory, does not really want Rory to be free, so she loses the case and Rory spends the rest of her life in jail, or at least five years (rereading Proust and writing her memoirs). Lorelei goes nuts and burns down the inn and moves to Salem where she works as a professional witch. Emily keeps the baby, a girl (and she goes to every little girl pageant/cotillion in the state). Logan realizes he is gay and he and Luke, who also realizes he is gay, marry in the town square and everyone eats ice cream from the guy with the beard's shoppe, and Lane's band plays Abba songs. And then Iran launches a nuke and it misses NYC and hits Stars Hollow. The End

While the thought of a Gilmore Girls movie makes my mouth water, there are some valid concerns about the limited demographic interested in a GG movie at this time. Here are some ways the writers could entice a wider audience for the big screen:

    1) Make it a musical! Lauren Graham can sing and dance.
    2) Make the setting not the present-day, but Stars Hollow during a zombie uprising. Rory must feed!
    3) Show that the true hero of the story is actually Kirk (one of the locals.) You see, he never aged during the seven years of the show. Kirk has actually been growing younger physically while aging mentally. No one ever really noticed this before because Kirk is well, Kirk.
    4) Make it a special two-hour special episode of Clean House. Luke and Lorelei have married, but Lorelei isn't making room for Luke in their house. Maybe Niecy Nash will straighten out Lorelei with all her mayhem and foolishness!

I am in most definatly, I love the Gilmore Girls & have all the seasons on DVD, the Mugs & made homemade soundtracks so I can listen to the favorite songs of the series. A movie is what I've been waiting and hoping for. Lauren & Alexis have done other projects since the series ended but really this was their big break & they need to do this to be loyal to their loyal fans because this is what would be the best gift to us!

The bigger question would be if indeed a GG movie would satisfy us die-hard fans. My daughter and I tirelessly watch the complete set of GG. We can never get enough of it. So, if a movie did come out, how would it ever alleviate the hunger that we have for yet another episode of Gilmore Girls? Wouldn't we just want another?

wow, just spent about 20 minutes reading all these comments, clearly i love this show!! a movie would be a great reprisal of all the characters, and perhaps a further glorification of that small town of Stars Hollow.

p.s. Jeff there was a couple brad bunch movies and a partridge family moive
and random person who's name i forget and don't feel like looking up it was a dog wake not a cat wake
–bring back the wit, characters, writers, happiness, and some new characters to spice up the show and make it more realistic, like rory with other journalists, and lorelai needs some more friends besides just her co-workers and luke

My heart fluttered when I read the title of this article. I know that sounds silly, but I would love to see a Gilmore Girls movie! I was in my late teens when this show first came out, and I carried it through college with me as it was my own best friend. When the show ended, I was a graduate and married, but I still loved it just as much as when I first started watching (well, ok, probably a little more). My husband bought me the entire series, and I have watched it over and over since.

I think, as the writer put it, there is something magical about this show. It was like something out of a Norman Rockwell painting, but with a fun and spunky twist on it. All the characters were incredibly adoring, and I just couldn't get enough. I miss this show, and would love to see a movie done on it!

It was so unfair to us loyal fans for the series to end the way it did.
We deserve a reunion show at least, with some of the obvious questions answered! Amy come back and bring these characters to life! The last season was such a sham... obvious that were gone.
There is no way the Luke and Lorelai story would have gone the way it did. It was such a soap opera writing job and so obvious the love and care that ASP gave to these characters was long gone. It was like a slap in the face....
A movie please, or a tv special reunion show, ....anything to wrap the loose ends.....for good or for bad. PLEASE !!! We need good writing on TV these days!

Yes. Yes. Yes. My daughter (14) has seen the entire series (7 DVDs) at least 20 times. Part of her Friday night ritual for the last two years is to come home have pizza and watch the Girlmores. What is it about this show that when you walk in a room and its on, you have to stop and watch it (even if you've seen the episode eight times.) You can never grow tired of the magical setting, the quirky characters, the rapid-paced delivery of the dialogue, and the brilliant writing.

Did Luke finally marry Laurelai? Did Rory wind up with Jess? What's Logan doing (other than being on a new hit series)? These are questions fans are dying to have answered.

Word of warning: It must be the original writers!

And I have a feeling that Lauren Graham may be resistant to revisiting that role. Every time I've seen her since, I think I'm watching Laurelai.
Even when I saw her play Adalaide on Broadway.

I'd love it no matter what. I'm not so sure about A.S-P. being involved. Yes, she created and made the show great, but she also deserted it and left the writers in an impossible predicament after having Lorelai run to Chris's bed 5 minutes after arguing with Luke. I thought they did a commendable job with the final season, considering they had to write their way out of that mess.

This was seriously one of the most thoughtful shows on TV dealing with life not LIFE if you get my drift. If you live a relatively mundane sort of life ; it is nice to watch something so well done that relates to your own reality. Lorelai Gilmore was the young mother we all wanted to be. While I LOVED GG, and still watch reruns every chance I get, I'm of two minds about it. I'm old enough to have pined for and rejoiced over the announcements of reunion movies for The Dick Van Dyke Show (I grew up on its reruns) and Mary Tyler Moore Show (on during my high school/university years), both of them were MAJOR disappointments, so bad in fact that I wish they hadn't been made. So if AS-P is going to do it, she'd better do it right, and be true to the spirit of Stars Hollow.

My daughter is 15 now, loves the GG! She has all the video's and catches them anytime she can on reruns. She was always an average student. But that changed with GG. She now goes to an all girls prep school and get mostly A's and B's and wants to go to Harvard.
Now, it is so OK to be smart and a girl. I can not thank Amy Sherman-Paladino enough she helped to make a special girl desire to be the best!

Hey Russell from Hollywood. Loved your ideas for the spoof. Certainly directions we know those characters would never go. Although Kirk as a serial killer seems feasible. And he had a strong relationship with his mother.... which would make the Psycho ending a possibility for you spoof. Hope you share some more of your ideas with us.

Hollywood is always remarkably shocked when a movie directed to females does well in the box office (i.e. "Sex in the City"). The ability of the intelligent and strong women characters in "Gilmore Girls," to reference classic literature in the same sentence as fun pop culture made it relatable. It really was one show that spoke to a majority of female Americans of all generations. It would translate well into a movie.

I text my daughter not more than an hour ago how the Gilmore Girls define our relationship. We use Gilmorisms daily. The show taught us to appreciate the important things in life – relationships, traditions, family. We take Gilmore Girls on all our girls weekends and make it part of our time together. We are kindred spirits.
A Gilmore Girls movie? Only if you could get the original cast together, the same writers, producers etc. To not do so would truly be a shame.

I'd rather see a spoof with the real actors where Rory and Logan end up running a trailerpark with their illegitimate baby, Lorelei burns down the Dragonfly to collect the insurance money (to help Rory & Logan) but gets caught and tossed in jail with her parents who had been arrested for tax evasion over the last 20 years. Taylor's been missing for a year and they find out Kirk is a serial killer. Christopher moves in with Paris and becomes her sugar daddy. So many possibilities.

A Gilmore Girls movie? Absolutely! And a spin off series. You ask why mess with perfection? Because perfection is an illusion (eye of the beholder and all that) and transitive through time.
If it is worse than the series, it will not mar the original shows. So be it!
We all have ideas of what should happen in the Gilmore Girl's future. Why not explore it? I would like to see Rory meet up with Logan again, in "The Way We Were" style. But whatever the abnormally talented creator and genius writers have in mind, I will be thrilled!

I am watching Gilmore Girls right now and I would love a movie BUT it (1) must be written by Amy Sherman-Palladino (as several have already stated) so it won't be cheesy and (2) it must include the entire cast - even those we have not seen in a while (like Dean, Madeline and Louise. I LOVE this show. I never actually watched the show during its original run but I caught it once on ABC Family and was immediately hooked!

Wow! I never thought of a movie. I remember a tour of the Warner Bros. site when they shared it had been cancelled. My daughter, son, husband and I were devastated. My daughter got us started and the quick wit, wondering how anyone could come up with those lines as well as someone able to repeat them kept us laughing for hours. A movie would have to keep the integrity of the show and couldn't just be tossed together. The final episode left you wondering what would happen, what could have happened and I was really disappointed that they left me wanting so much more. The show portrayed the mother daughter relationship that most had and didn't want to have with their daughter yet had at a completely different level you wish your relationship could have blossomed into. I love breaking out the series and watching it when it's raining and you have a fire going and it's something we don't get tired of watching again and again. Wholesome! It's nice watching something that is real but doesn't have all the bad language or the violence. If you don't do a movie then bring back the series. The entire cast was awesome!

I confess, I watched this show religiously. This show was similar o Fried Green Tomatoes – many regard it as a "Chick Flick/Series," but that is waaay off. The writing was nothing short of brilliant, the characters were consistent and superb, the plots were creative but seldom if ever contrived, and it was just F-U-N to watch.

And Lorelai was (and continues to be) QUITE easy on the eyes...

I'll stand in line for this one. But I'l grumble that my wife is forcing the "Chickery" on me, to maintain appearances... ;)

Oh yes...please bring back the witty banter on that show. A show like this would never have made it past 6 episodes on the top 3 networks. The story lines were horrible, the dialogue meaningless and the characters were boring. The dialogue was just horrendous! I have never seen characters speak so fast as to suggest there was a script behind their words. Kudos to the actors/actresses on remembering their lines. Sex in the City got away with making theatrical movies because each character had great stories to keep telling. No one wants to see Rory now working for a news channel....does she even have the look to be on a news channel? Great if you like big foreheads!

If someone already said this, well, read it again. Gilmore Girls is one of the few intelligent television shows that any network has offered the public for several years. Intelligent writing, great dialogues, funny situations, wonderful characters with depth, and some outstanding acting! I know, it's a chick show! Can't a guy enjoy intelligent, funny TV, too? So what if it never won an Emmy! That's the fault of the members of the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences, whoever the heck they are! A Gilmore Girls movie? Sure! I'll take the family to it! I know it will be great, but let's face it. Anything Gilmore is bound to be better than the crap the networks are passing off as entertainment these days.

I love Gilmore Girls and hope that they make a movie to correct the horrible end to Season 6 and all of Season 7!! AS-P needs to be back and give us the ending that all the fans deserve to see ! I want to hear the last line of the show that she had envisioned from the beginning!

Give us a chance to see Luke and Lorelai happy married and enjoying life! and Rory setting the world on fire! Not to mention all the Stars Hollow characters and Richard and Emily!!!

    Someone make this movie!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I would love to see a Gilmore Girls movie! I just have to know if Lorelai and Luke got married (the show implied they got back together in the series finale). Maybe in the movie they could be married and Lorelai could be pregnant. Also, I have to know what happened with Rory and the Obama campaign. Since Obama won the election and is now our president, wouldn't it be cool if Rory was a member of the White House Press Core? I really hope this happens!

YES Please! I feel like Amy needs to wrap the show up the way she wanted to, NOT the way the network did it. Although I have respect for the final season's writer, it just wasn't the same. Amy is the creator... she always said she knew how it was doing to end it. Her fans DESERVE that ending. Plus Lauren Graham has to be the most beauiful actress of our time and her talent needs to be appreciated. very excited to see her in Parenthood!

Although I absolutely adore all things Gilmore, the notion of this movie makes me nervous. I'm so afraid they'd mess it up. I kind of want to leave the Gilmores at that last scene, where she's kissing Luke in the middle of the street.

I'd love to see a Gilmore Girls movie if they got all the same players to come back and if Palladino penned the script. Gilmore Girls was a favorite in our household and the first four seasons were perfection. After it lost it's focus it wasn't as good and the final season was a dismal failure imo. They could redeem a lot if they put together a quality movie.

I loved the Gilmore Girls and was a loyal fan of the series. I own the whole show on DVD and watch it whenever I need my fill of the smartly written banter. However, I was completely dissatisfied with the way the show ended! There was very little closure in the storylines that were most important to the fans. I think that a GG movie that properly tied up the loose-ends would be welcome and a lot of fun!

Would love to see this movie! Amy Sherman-Palladino has to write it though or it won't be any good. I would hope that they don't try to cram in too much; they should just focus on one major plot. Lorelai having Luke's baby; Rory getting married; etc and the town's/family's involvement....those were always the best stories.

I have to know what the conversation was that she wanted to end the series with... I've always thought that the last season wasn't true to the characters and left too many issues up in the air. But that's what happens when the finale is filmed as either a season or series finale.

Might be a better fit as a 2 Hour movie on the CW. Glad to see that Lauren Graham is returning to TV on Parenthood...can't wait for that...she seems to be perfect for the part.

I love Gilmore Girls and I have all the DVDs, but don't ruin it with a movie! They ended it well, leaving her life up to the imagination of all the girls my age who went through high school and college with her. I hope there is a movie. The show did not end how it was supposed to in my mind. I have visualized the ending since one of the very early episodes. Lorelei once had a dream (I'm not sure which season but before she was ever with Luke) that she came down stairs in her house one morning and Luke was making her breakfast and they greeted each other and he puts his hand on her pregnant belly. That is how the show should have ended in my humble opinion. Either way I would die for more!

After the horrible last season we had I think NO I know its something every true G.G fan wants! The ending that was between Luke and Lorelai was God awful it was a disgrace to all G.G fans. To be honest I don't even want to get started on that subject. As well personally I loved Logan and Rory together.I thought that they ended very badly especially with all the stuff they went through. I have every DVDs from all the seasons and I watch them from time to time with my two grandchildren age 5. We all loved the show even my husband. I'm not sure how it would translate to a movie on the big screen but a made for TV movie might work. The original actors, and of course Amy Sherman-Palladino script are a must. The ending really didn't give much closure. I was extremely happy that Luck and Lorelai finally got together (that part where she was singing 'I'll always love you' and looking at Luke just brings me to tears every time I watch it) and that Rory stepped back and went after her life's goal. I was delighted to see so many 'big names' appear with cameo appearances.

Majority rules!! Yes, I want a GG movie, too. But only if Amy Sherman-Paladino writes it. No one could match her brilliant writing & story-telling. One of the few INTELLIGENT shows ever written for TV. I could have watched the series for another 10 years.

Rory could be a famous author (running in the same circle as Jess, a famous poet.... if they can get Milo free from "Heroes" for 6 mo.) & Logan, the future Steve Jobs. They live in a lovely N.Y. apartment. Because of their busy schedules, Rory has a fling with Jess, who begs her to leave Logan. Realizing she truly loves Logan,. she then returns home & begs him to spend more time at home with her. He sells his company for zillions of dollars, & they celebrate by taking a cruise & come home even more in love. Then, realizing how much of life they've missed, they decide to have a baby.... who would be the Aunt or Uncle to Lorelai's two kids she had with Luke. Of course the question would be, who's really the father: Logan or Jess?

Sookie & Jackson now run the Inn (but still overseeing the kitchen). Half way through the film, Emily has a stroke & dies. Because they were so close, Richard dies of a broken heart a week later. Nobel Prize Winner, Paris flies in for a week & is able to attend both funerals. Paris, & Rory go for lunch at Luke's diner (Now owned by Lane & Zach). In walks Dean. Paris & Dean "click" & she runs off with him to Connecticut & sets him up as her personal assistant/boy-toy. Chris has spent all his fortune on bad investments & moves from city to city on his motorcycle, working odd jobs.

With Emily & Richard gone, that leaves their mansion to Lorelai & Luke, who STILL refuse to live in the "lap of luxury". She begs Rory & Logan to take it so the whole family can be together again. They do. Last scene is 4 mo. later in the Gilmore mansion as all the family & a few friends gather for Rory's & Logan's first official dinner party. THE END (until we see Jess pull up in his Ferrari, come to visit Uncle Luke for the first time in 10 years...... Sequel to follow).

At least that's the way it would go in my head. lol

This was one of the few shows on TV that had substance. I loved the intelligence mixed with pop-culture references, rapid fire conversation, quirky characters. What was also great was that the young characters had purpose and goals, aspirations and dreams. Most other shows focused on the same demographic reveal boys/girls that sleep around and stab each other in the back amidst lavish surroundings ala Gossip Girl or 90210.

Stars Hollow was all so unrealistic (I loved how trees would still be leafy and green even when it was supposedly snowing) and yet the show was grounded and a great all around. I think having a Gilmore Girls movie would possibly diminish the magic displayed on TV, but I would certainly go to see it!

I would love to see a Gilmore Girls movie. I am a Mom of two children and started watching it before we had children. I laugh all the way through it: the crabby harpist, Lane becoming pregnant with twin boys, Mrs. Kim helping Lane's band, Miss Patty's love for men, the wake for the cat, Lorelai's Mom, Mrs. Gilmore in jail, their movie marathon nights, Lorelai's obsession with coffee and snow. Did I mention the episode with the young girls soccer team who turned out to be vicious? Hilarious! There are so many things to love about this show. I think Amy Sherman-Palladino could write a wonderful movie script. I really hope there is a movie. Thanks for writing about my favorite show,

Absolutely!! But only if they did it right. I didn't watch most of the last season because the writing absolutely sucked, which is evident in how the show ended...Loralei and Luke magically back together again...Logan and Rory suddenly apart, as if everything they had meant nothing, which is exactly what came across considering Logan just walked away, and Rory seemed to have no real reaction at all!! To a movie...yes!! To Amy leading the show...yes!! To Logan and Rory, together and happy...ABSOLUTELY, YES!!!!!

But I won't get my hopes up, because these rumors have been going on since the show went off the air!

Absolutely!! The last season was ok, but it seemed unfinished at the end!! I want to know what happened to them after Rory finished the Obama campaign and what happened with Lorelei and Luke! It would FANTASTIC if we came back into it as of now......three years or five years later and see where they are. Lorelei kept talking about more kids. HOW funny would it be to see a pregnant Lorelei??? And how many jokes could Rory and Lorelei crack over her pregnancy??? That would be hysterical. I love this show because it was the smart person's humor. It wasn't straight forward (most of the time) and you really had to "get it" which I LOVED! Sooooo hope they do a movie...or jeez....why not just bring the show back?? That would definitely be in my line up.

I have all the seasons on DVD and would just have it in my DVD as a rotation when I want to watch something familiar or just want the TV on. I would love to see a GG movie (I would secretly coerce one of my female friends to go see it with me). But The Palladinos need to be involved from start to finish and most of the major characters need to be in it to make it feel authentic. Let me think: Lorelai & Luke, Rory, Grandparents, Sookie & Jackson, Ms. Patty, Michel, Babette, Lane & Zack, Kirk, Taylor, Paris & Doyle, Mrs. Kim and Gypsy...am I missing anyone?

    Hope this movie goes through!

Would love a Gilmore Girl's Movie, but on condition the creators have full control with the script and they original stars appear. As mentioned the show had it's charm with well crafter scripts, snappy dialogue with all sorts of pop cultural references, along with those quirky characters and good acting. That's what I would want from any movie adaptations of the show.

I loved watching the Gilmore Girls series. If they do a movie, I would be very tempted to see it. Hopefully they would do a better job with the screenplay than what was done on the movie version of a cable series a couple of years ago. It was too long and boring in the middle. About 30 minutes could have been left on the cutting room floor and the movie would have been much better.

When the show ended the creator of the show, Amy Sherman-Paladino, was no longer behind it. The final season was really under the Warner Studios direction, so of course, there were alot of unanswered questions and a sort -of- quick- let's- finish- this- series ending. I woould have wanted a better ending to this phenomenal TV series. BUT to revisit Stars Hollow will Lorelai and Rory, I am not so sure. Maybe it is better to leave things alone. It's hard to say. I wouldn't want a movie about the Gilmore Girls to ruin the legacy left behind by the Creator and the actors. Can a TV show be turned into a 80-90minute movie? They would have to hire some great writers and have Amy Sherman-Paladino back on. It would have to be a really great new rendition of what happened years later. Not sappy, not corny, not boring. On another note, I have to say that the Gilmore Girls are my daughter and me. We live that life. That is our story.

GG was written with the best dialogue I've heard on television in at least a decade. The story seemed secondary to the cadence and caliber of the verbal exchanges in each episode. If this aesthetic could be carried over to a film, I'd certainly be willing to fill a theatre seat.

I loved the series – and it ended perfectly – with Lorelai ending up with Luke, and the world opening up for Rory. A movie would have to have conflict and drama. I loved Gilmore Girls; the show was excellent, but woudl have been even better if Amy had kept her ego out of it and given more than a short nod to consistency. If she had kept the focus on Lorelai and Rory, where it should have been, instead of making it "The Many Loves of the Lorelai Gilmores," it would have been a better show. Don't get me wrong–I love Luke. But I would rather have seen them happy in a relationship as a subplot than all the manufactured drama of the last two seasons. It was unnecessary and ruined an otherwise exceptional show.

Gilmore Girls was one of my all time favorite shows...I loved the relationships between th characters...the banter...made you feel like you knew everyone personally. I'd love to see a GG movie...just hope it would be done as well as the series.

Both of my grown daughters and I have watched the Gilmore Girls shows, both the original series and the re-runs. We have even visited the set in California. We saw Alexis at a USC football game once and were thrilled. Some of the Yale campus scenes were filmed on the USC campus where our son attended. Our family would love to see a movie based on this series. We would love to have it centered around a wedding. We thought Logan's and Rori's relationship ended too quickly for the history they shared. I hope this movie is not just wishful thinking on the public's part due to the fact that more people are seeing in re-runs the fabulous acting and writing.

Yes, yes, YES I would see it! But only if helmed by the fabulous Amy Sherman Palladino. Let's face it: David S. Rosenthal destroyed the series. His writing couldn't hold a candle to ASP's (the first few episodes of his first season were a sad imitation of ASP's writing, wit and charm) and he took the series in a direction that was simply awful. We missed the opportunity to see Luke and Lorelai FINALLY together and the series didn't receive the ending it deserved (for which I not only blame Rosenthal, but also Dawn Ostroff).

I hope ASP and the GG cast gets the opportunity to give it it's proper end. The fans deserve it, too.

As long as Sherman-Paladino does the writing I'd be all for it. For a little while watching The Gilmore Girls took you either out of reality or back into your past – whichever it was, it was a good thing. I watch the reruns and shows come up now and then that I never saw and it's like finding a five dollar bill in a coat pocket! Shows like this and the original Designing Women are what TV should be all about. Not the reality stuff we see now. We all have our own realities to deal with; don't need somebody elses.

I would love to see a movie – agreed with most everyone else ONLY if the original actors were there and ONLY if ASP wrote it.

It would be great to see how their lives progressed, if Stars Hollow changed with the times and put in a Wal-Mart and Costco (could you see how Lorelai would react to a Costco?? – it would be hilarious!), and to see where Rory's life has taken her so far. Hollywood...Please produce this movie!!!!!

I would love to see a gilmore movie, if it played off the early years of the series. I want to see all those crazy characters included ie, Kirk, Miss Patty, Babette. Toward the end of the tv series, they had down played the towns people and just focused on Luke and Loralie. It would be neat to see how things played out down the road, How sukey and Jackson made out and how many children they had. How about Loralie, did she and Luke finally marry? If so, are they new gilmore/danes children. I think the movie would have great potential!

I have learned to love the show over the years. I now watch the reruns every night. At first I was very envious and jealous of the mother daughter realtionship that these two had. I have two daughters and have raised them as a single mother also and would have given anything to of had the same kind of realtionship that these two had between them. I watch it now with my 23 year old and we laugh and cry together over different episodes. It was a great series and it woud be great to have the same two people in a movie but the majic between those two as mother and daughter could never be matched by anyone else playing their parts.

not be Gilmore Girls. I don't mind if Luke's daughter is in the
picture, but I mind that Lorelai let the mother grind her into the
    dirt.

Emily would have to finally realize that Lorelai was awsome.
And that Chris was a jerk.

But I miss stars hollow, I miss Rory and Logan, I want them to
work together with the worlds best news story. and Blow Logan's

For me, Gilmore Girls carries many special memories. My best friend and I were Gilmore Girl addicts. We both lived in CT while the show was on and would chuckle at all the little small town jokes, because we are from a cute and quaint small town. We loved how there were recognizable places they would talk about, and we just loved watching Rory grow up along side of us, we were the same age as her as we watched.
My best friend died in November 2006 and never got to see the ending of Gilmore Girls, which, as time went on, got harder for me to watch. She had been sick for several years, and her mom had always had this dream of when she was better she was going to take her to the hospital floor she was so familiar with and say, "See, not so scary anymore, is it?" Just as Loreli had taken Rory to the top of the stairs in Chilton after Rory graduated.
I would love to see a movie made and go with My best friends mom and my mom and watch that, and remember how many fond memories we had with the Gilmore Girls. When I saw that it was even a possibility my heart skipped a beat!

It wouldn't be messing with perfection to make a gilmore girls movie. The series finale was terrible! Luke and Lorelai should have ended up with Luke arriving at her house again (with all his stuff in the back of the truck like he did before the time that she came out and told him she slept with christopher, lol) with her waiting for him. It should have been more definite, how could it not be? Ok I get that they were making Rory an independant woman, but I would've loved for her to realize that she needed and wanted Logan and that he completed her. Otherwise, it was a let-down b/c, hello, it's a series finale! Although they are no ross/rachel, ppl would've hated it if they didn't end up together on the Friends finale, just as I hated the Gilmore finale. Also, I believe that Sherman-Palladino was out of the picture by the time the series finale cam around, perhpas that was the big problem....Please, mess with the Gilmore imperfection!!!!

Absolutely!!!! Even if it is doesn't do as well as expected, it would be a breath of fresh air compared to this Sex in the City obsession for no apparent reason other than some women's fetishes with shoes and men. Gilmore Girls gave justice to women seeking substance in there life with literature and education and living some form of a normalcy to their every day lives for EVERY girl and women living in this day and age. SITC is all well and good in NYC but what about how the rest of the women in this country live and entertain their free time. Gilmore Girls gave so much of a well rounded example for women living the everyday life that I would be first in line to see any adaptation turned into a movie with gusto!!!!

The Sopranos...there should be a Sopranos movie. I firmly believe that Tony did not die at the end of the series.

The SATC movie was not that great...and was, in fact, kind of lame. I would fear that would happen to a Gilmore Girls movie. How much Luke/Chris/Loralei triangle and we handle? And Rory/Logan will they, won't they...she turned down his proposal...blah blah blah. I think they endd it well and a movie could ruin the series. Like SATC did.

Would be nice to see Rory and Dean get back together. I hated Logan. And please include Paris, Lane, Kirk, Miss Patty, Babette, Sookie, Richard and Emily.

Would love, would pay to see it but it must not try to put another 7 years in 2 hours. It has to be like Sex and the City and just pick a topic and do it on that. So many "reunion" shows go from 0 to 180 in 2 hours and it is just babble. Have Rory come to visit and catch up with Luke and Lorelai or Logan, Paris... just a two hour show as usual but not 20 years into the future crap.

I love the show, smart fast writing. Great. Still watch it in re-runs.

    As for JoseF

The show was more directed towards a mother & daughter relationship. Which involves many different love interests, to the humour of her parents, the overly invovled townspeople, etc. If it was a father son show(IE Two and a half men), you would see a lot more responses from men and very few women. I enjoy Two and Half Men, but I prefer to watch GG or Sex and the City, since I am a woman and I can relate to it. But just personal preference

I would love to see a movie that answers all the unresolved questions from the last season. I "found" the Gilmore Girls recently in re-runs and was disappointed in how the who just stopped, no real "ending". I think at this point I've seen all the episodes multiple times, yet whenever I come upon the show I have to stop and watch. Much like the Sex & The City movie, it's always dicey when you go back and try to reclaim former glory...but the first S&TC movie was great and if done in the same wonderful way the show was until the end I feel a Gilmore Girls movie could be easily as wonderful.

I loved Gilmore Girls and I would love to see a movie! A movie that would wrap this up a little...like Lorelai and Luke getting married, Rory with a successful journalism career. I would prefer the original writers to write the script for the movie since the characters are their creations. Also, you would have to bring back Lane, Sookie, Paris, Kirk, etc. the plot could be Rory's relationship with Logan, but we would want a happy ending!

In think instead of a full-length movie, a 2-hour special, wrapping up questions, Luke & Lorelai? Rory and ?, Rory as an adult, success and Lorelai finally getting her act together and having kids with Luke. Just a "wrap up" type episode, of course written by the same writers as the show or why bother. I still wat the reruns and if I weren't so cheap, I'd buy the DVDs.

I LOVE Gilmore Girls – watch the re-runs & never get sick of it! But I think a movie would only be good if they did a 'Felicity' & erased the last season (and Luke's annoying daughter) that totally ruined the flow from the previous seasons and do a re-write to show what could have happened instead.

Otherwise I think the movie would just be extended disappointment from the last season. That is one season I can not watch again; the only part that was good was the end with the Mighty Lemon Heads song & the 2 seconds of Luke & Lorelai's re-uniting.

My wife and I would watch the Gilmore Girls every week...and we enjoyed it a lot. It started to fall out of favor for me towards the end, personally, as it seemed that the writers were really shaking the script writing machine (c'mon, it's a joke people, ok?) to see what fell out.

As for a movie, I can see it happening, but I am afraid that to sell the movie, movie executives will demand that the story include plot devices such as:

    1. Rory having a baby so that the movie ends with Rory, Lorelei and new baby in a group photo as the camera fades to black. The cycle repeats.

    2. Rory getting married. At the inn, of course. EVERYBODY in the town and family try to become involved.

    3. Lorelei's parents' house catching fire. Dad dies. Grandma has to pick up the pieces on her own. Lorelei has to sell the inn. Lots of Kleenix needed to watch.

None of these plots would be remotely interesting to me (all too predictable and not original....especially if I thought of them). I just hope that some of the former writers have a chance to put their magic back into a script that does the series justice.

The rapid-fire dialogue, quirky characters and pop culture references were all top-notch. I don't even go to movies these days, but I would go to see this one.

I will DIE for a Gilmore Girls movie! It is my all time favorite show and I have watched it repeatedly in reruns for the past 3 years. I think I have every episode memorized.

I'm in my 30s and absolutely loved the series (still DVR the reruns). The witty banter is hard to find on any program. I look forward to the movie and would definitely go see it!

Oh, yes please to a GG movie. This is the only series I have ever (and likely will ever) buy on DVD and I watch it over and over. I'll never get enough!

Would love a GG movie. The show ended too abruptly. We need closure! It would be nice to see what the charachters would be up to several years later. Esp. since Rory was following Obamas campaign before he became the frontrunner for Pres. Even a book would be good. Has anyone pitched a book to ASP? She should write one!

There should be a movie, if for no other reason than to cancel out that disappointing final season.

PLEASE, please make a movie or some kind of sequel. We need CLOSURE! CLOSURE, DAMMIT!

Here are my suggestions, already submitted to WB:

Rory is working as a journalist in NY. Who is she with?? (Clue: Remember Marty?) Logan still around and back to galavanting ways. But they're friends.

Luke and Lorelai. Mostly together, mostly happy, but still not married! (WHY? Their personalities don't allow it...)

Christopher. Happily remarried and raising daughter and new baby.

Lane and Zach. Lane has taken over Mrs. Kim's antique business (Mrs. Kim retired and spends half year traveling on church missions). Zach still tours but also runs music creativity workshops for kids.

I own the series. I have watched it repeatedly, sometimes as a Gilmore marathon, other times when I just need a little Lorelai. Then I just blindly grab a season and throw it in, knowing I'll pick up where ever they are. It is, in fact, playing in the dvd player as I write this. But to walk through seven seasons with them and be absolutely cheated out of the Luke and Lorelai wedding...that was just cruel. See, there is so little romance in the world today. We don't have Bogie and Becall and Brad and Angie don't even come close. We want the magic of Stars Hollow so that we can live there vicariously. That may sound sad and pathetic but that 's the way it is. Yes, for heaven's sake yes! We want the movie. And hey, I just read the "where are they now" article. They don't seem all that busy. How long do we have to wait? Bring us back to the Hollow for one more magical moment. I'll buy it, too and watch it over and over and over again. Do I have to beg? Write letters? Make cookies? Tell me, I'll do it. Who do I have to sleep with?? Point him out! Just make the damned movie!!

Gilmore Girls was, and still is, like a good book, a great first date and 50 years of a wonderful marriage all rolled into one! Nothing would make me happier than to hear that a movie, even a made-for-tv movies was in the works. It is and will always be my favorite tv series, it was just that good.

Totally agree! watched the whole DVD set with my 2 daughters and they love it too! There is nothing on TV that replaces GG's ! At least a movie! That's the least they can do! We all know it's not real but it's great to be part of it in our minds!
